Culm characteristics of Melocanna baccifera, locally ＇muli＇, culms at five different culm ages of 11 girth classes （5-6 to 15-16 cm） were studied from Cachar Dis- trict of southern Assam, northeast India. We recorded internode length, internode diameter, number of internodes per culm, total culm height, total culm green weight and total culm volume of all five culm age classes. Data were gathered on 165 culms, each culm age class containing 33 culms with 3 culms per girth class. Culm height ranged from 3.2 to 15.3 m with highest mean of 9.15 m （in threeyear old culms） and maximum culm height was recorded in four-year old culms. Highest mean and maximum internode length （27.45 and 54.2 cm, respectively）, internode diameter （3.12 and 4.75 cm, respectively） and total culm green weight （5.42 and 12.87 kg/culm, respectively） were recorded in three-year old culms and lowest in current-year culms. Best fitted regression models for all parameters were developed. Significant linear relationships between culm green weight and culm solid volume were documented for all five culm age classes. Their corresponding best-fit regression models were also developed.

AIM:To examine the activation of the Nalp3 inflammasome and its downstream targets following lipopolysaccharide(LPS) -induced stimulation in the liver. METHODS:Six-to-eight-week-old C57BL/6 chow fed mice were injected intraperitoneally with 0.5μg/g bodyweight LPS and sacrificed 2,4,6,18 or 24 h later. LPS-induced liver damage was confirmed by a biochemical assay to detect alanine aminotransferase(ALT) *** determine if LPS stimulation in the liver led to activation of the inflammasome,real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to evaluate the mRNA expression of components of the Nalp3 ***-linked immunosorbent assays were used to determine the protein expression levels of several downstream targets of the Nalp3 inflammasome,including caspase-1 and two cytokine targets of caspase-1,interleukin(IL) -1βand IL-18. RESULTS:We found that LPS injection resulted in liver damage as indicated by elevated ALT *** was associated with a significant increase in both mRNA and protein levels of the proinflammatory cy-tokine tumor necrosis factor(TNF) -αin the liver,as well as increased levels of TNFs in *** showed that LPS stimulation led to upregulation of mRNA levels in the liver for all the receptor components of the inflammasome,including Nalp3,Nalp1,pannexin-1 and the adaptor molecule apoptosis-associated specklike,caspase recruitment domain-domain containing *** also found increased levels of mRNA and protein for caspase-1,a downstream target of the *** addition,LPS challenge led to increased levels of both mRNA and protein in the liver for two cytokine targets of caspase-1,IL-1βand IL-18. Tumor-necrosis factor-a （TNF-a）-driven nuclear factor-KB （NF-KB） activation and apoptosis are opposing pathways; the growing recognition of these conflicting roles of TNF-a is perplexing. Here, we show that inflammation and apoptosis are time-phased events following TNF-a signaling and that emergence of suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 （SOCS3） expression limits the ongoing NF-KB activation and promotes apoptosis; further, we suggest an altered view of how inflammatory diseases are initiated and sustained. In vitro, TNF-a （50 ng/ml） induced granulocyte SOCS3 protein, inhibited nuclear accumulation of the p65NF-KB subunit and enhanced apoptosis, as shown by DNA laddering, annexin V positivity, and overexpression of caspase-3 and Bax in the late phase, whereas the early phase was marked by NF-KB activation. Conversely, SOCS3 knockdown by small interfering RNA （siRNA） inhibited granulocyte apoptosis and enhanced nuclear accumulation of p65 and 5＇ lipooxygenase expression in the late phase of TNF-a signaling. As apoptosis is associated with SOCS3 abundance, we suggest that these divergent TNF-a-driven events are time-phased, interconnected, opposing control mechanisms and one of the central features through which the immune system resolves pulmonary inflammation. Dysregulation may initiate mucosal inflammation, thus changing the landscape of asthma theraov.

With the increasing popularity of high-resolution remote sensing images,the remote sensing image retrieval(RSIR)has always been a topic of major issue.A combined,global non-subsampled shearlet transform(NSST)-domain statistical features(NSSTds)and local three dimensional local ternary pattern(3D-LTP)features,is proposed for high-resolution remote sensing *** model the NSST image coefficients of detail subbands using 2-state laplacian mixture(LM)distribution and its three parameters are estimated using Expectation-Maximization(EM)*** also calculate the statistical parameters such as subband kurtosis and skewness from detail subbands along with mean and standard deviation calculated from approximation subband,and concatenate all of them with the 2-state LM parameters to describe the global features of the *** various properties of NSST such as multiscale,localization and flexible directional sensitivity make it a suitable choice to provide an effective approximation of an *** order to extract the dense local features,a new 3D-LTP is proposed where dimension reduction is performed via selection of‘uniform’*** 3D-LTP is calculated from spatial RGB planes of the input *** proposed inter-channel 3D-LTP not only exploits the local texture information but the color information is captured ***,a fused feature representation(NSSTds-3DLTP)is proposed using new global(NSSTds)and local(3D-LTP)features to enhance the discriminativeness of *** retrieval performance of proposed NSSTds-3DLTP features are tested on three challenging remote sensing image datasets such as WHU-RS19,Aerial Image Dataset(AID)and PatternNet in terms of mean average precision(MAP),average normalized modified retrieval rank(ANMRR)and precision-recall(P-R)*** experimental results are encouraging and the NSSTds-3DLTP features leads to superior retrieval performance compared to many well known existing descriptors such as Gabor RGB,Granulometry,loc

Reflection of stratospheric planetary waves and its impact on tropospheric cold weather over Asia during January 2008 were investigated by applying two dimensional Eliassen-Palm （EP） flux and three-dimensional Plumb wave activity *** planetary wave propagation can clearly be seen in the longitude-height and latitude-height sections of the Plumb wave activity flux and EP flux,respectively,when the stratospheric basic state is partially ***,a wave packet emanating from Baffin Island/coast of Labrador propagated eastward,equatorward and was reflected over Central Eurasia and parts of China,which in turn triggered the advection of cold wind from the northern part of the boreal forest regions and Siberia to the *** wide region of Central Eurasia and China experienced extreme cold weather during the second ten days of January 2008,whereas the extraordinary persistence of the event might have occurred due to an anomalous blocking high in the Urals-Siberia region.

Carcinoma of the gallbladder (CaGB) is the fifth commonest gastrointestinal tract cancer and is endemic in several countries. The interplay of genetic susceptibility, infections, and life style factors has been proposed to be responsible for carcinogenesis of gallbladder. Persistence of infection leading to chronic inflammation, and production of certain toxins and metabolites with carcinogenic potentials, by certain bacteria has been speculated to be involved in the transformation of the gallbladder epithelium. Therefore, any bacteria that have evolved to acquire both of the above carcinogenic mechanisms can cause cancer. Salmonella typhi has been found to be prominently associated with CaGB. Chronic typhoid carriage (persistence) and production of mediators of chronic infl ammation and a genotoxic toxin (cytotoxic distending toxin, CdtB) are also known for this bacterium. Furthermore, the natural concentrating function of the gallbladder might amplify the carcinogenic effect of the mediators of carcinogenesis. In addition to S. typhi, certain species of Helicobacter (H. bilis and H. hepaticus) and Escherichia coli have also been implicated in carcinogenesis. As the isolation rate is verypoor with the presently available culture techniques, the existence of bacteria in a viable but non-cultivable state is quite likely; therefore, sensitive and specif ic molecular techniques might reveal the etiological role of bacterial infection in gallbladder carcinogenesis. If bacteria are found to be causing cancers, then eradication of such infections might help in reducing the incidence of some cancers.

In some of the coalfields in India, coal seams are only developed but no extraction of pillars is possible due to the presence of surface or sub-surface structures and also non-availability of stowing materials which leads to huge amounts of coal being locked-up underground. Spontaneous heating and fire, accumulation of poisonous gases, severe stability issues leading to unsafe workings and environmental hazards are the major problems associated with the developed coal pillars. So, there is a pressing need for a technology for the mining industry to extract the huge amount of coal locked-up under different constraints. In this study, the locked-up coal is proposed to be extracted by artificially strengthening the rib pillars. The detailed comparative study is carried out to know the increase of extraction percentage of locked-up coal by strengthening the rib pillars with FRP. Extraction methodology is designed and studied through numerical modelling for its stability analysis to evaluate its suitability of application in underground.

Objectives:The screening of traditional fermented products is essential for the assessment of safety,security,and further development of functional foods for the well-being of human *** aim of the present study was to isolate and identify bacteria from fermented raw milk samples that exhibit health benefits upon ***:In order to confirm the isolates as probiotics,several in vitro assays were conducted to assess the probiotic properties of isolated *** initial screening includes tolerance to acid,bile,pancreatin,and *** cell surface properties demonstrate their interaction with mucosal epithelium,which includes hydrophobicity and auto-aggregation *** assessment was done by performing haemolytic test and antibiotic susceptibility *** antagonistic activity of probiotic strain was further evaluated against some pathogenic ***:Lactobacillus plantarum(***)isolated from fermented raw milk was preliminarily identified by biochemical tests and further confirmed using 16S rRNA *** isolate designated as *** strain GCC_19M1 demonstrated significant tolerance to low pH,0.3%bile,0.5%pancreatin,and 5%*** the presence of simulated gastric juice(at pH 3),the isolate exhibited a survival rate of 93.48-96.97%.Furthermore,the development of ecological niches in the human gut and their successful accumulation have been revealed by auto-aggregation and hydrophobicity *** of haemolytic activity ensures the non-virulent nature of the *** plantarum strain GCC_19M1 showed susceptibility towards gentamicin,tetracycline,kanamycin,meropenem,and ceftriaxone and exhibited an antagonistic effect on pathogenic ***:The obtained results conveyed that *** strain GCC_19M1 has strong probiotic potential,and its presence in the fermented raw milk products may serve as a potent functional probiotic food.

In the field of optical interconnecting network and in super fast photonic computing system, the tree architecture and optical nonlinear materials can play a significant role. Nonlinear optical material may find important uses in optical switching. Optical switch using nonlinear material makes it possible for one optical signal to control and switch another optical signal through nonlinear interaction in a material. In this communication such materials have been successfully exploited to design an all-optical tree-net architecture, which can be utilized for time division multiplexing scheme in all-optical domain.

BACKGROUND Intrahepatic bile duct adenoma(BDA)is one of the rarest of the rare benign tumors of the liver in the pediatric age *** arises from the epithelial lining of intrahepatic bile *** overall incidence of BDA is 1.3%of all primary benign liver *** case reports of this rare tumor occurring in adult population are present in the literature and to date,only one pediatric case has been reported *** SUMMARY An 18-month-old male child presented with chief complaints of mass per abdomen for 8 *** tomography abdomen revealed a well-defined exophytic solid tumor arising from the posteroinferior margin of the right lobe of the liver with heterogenous enhancement and cystic changes,suggesting a suspicion of ***-anatomical liver resection was done and a tumor of 10 cm×9.5 cm was *** of the specimen was conclusive with the diagnosis of intrahepatic bile duct adenoma,which was further supported by immunohistochemistry panel *** post-operative period was *** follow-up,the child was doing well and had no postoperative *** Intrahepatic bile duct adenoma in children is very rare and to date only one case has been *** is the second pediatric case of intrahepatic bile duct adenoma in the *** this is the first ever case of such a large tumor presenting in a child.
