We introduce the concept of time mask,which is a type of temporal filter suitable for selection of multiple disjoint time intervals in which some query conditions *** a filter can be applied to time-referenced objects,such as events and trajectories,for selecting.those objects or seg.ents of trajectories that fit in one of the selected time *** selected subsets of objects or seg.ents are dynamically summarized in various ways,and the summaries are represented visually on maps and/or other displays to enable *** time mask filtering.can be especially helpful in analysis of disparate data(e.g.,event records,positions of moving.objects,and time series of measurements),which may come from different *** detect relationships between such data,the analyst may set query conditions on the basis of one dataset and investig.te the subsets of objects and values in the other datasets that co-occurred in time with these *** describe the desired features of an interactive tool for time mask filtering.and present a possible implementation of such a *** example of analysing.two real world data collections related to aviation and maritime traffic,we show the way of using.time masks in combination with other types of filters and demonstrate the utility of the time mask filtering.

Despite the g.owing.body of work on molecular components required for reg.nerative repair,we still lack a deep understanding.of the ability of some animal species to reg.nerate their appropriate complex anatomical structure following.damag..A key question is how reg.nerating.systems know when to stop g.owth and remodeling.what mechanisms implement recog.ition of correct morpholog. that sig.als a stop condition？In this work,we review two conceptual models of pattern reg.neration that implement a kind of pattern *** the first one,all cells communicate with each other and keep the value of the total sig.al received from the other *** a part of the pattern is amputated,the sig.al distribution *** difference fromthe orig.nal sig.al distribution stimulates cell proliferation and leads to pattern reg.neration,in effect implementing.an error minimization process that uses sig.aling.memory to achieve pattern *** the second model,we consider a more complex pattern org.nization with different cell *** tissue contains a central（coordinator）cell that controls the tissue and communicates with the other central *** of them keeps memory about the sig.als received from other central *** values of these sig.als depend on the mutual cell location,and the memory allows reg.neration of the structure when it is *** purpose of these models is to sug.est possible mechanisms of pattern reg.neration operating.on the basis of cell memory which are compatible with diverse molecular implementation mechanisms within specific org.nisms.

Determination of Candesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide in Human Plasma by HPLC Coupled with Mass Spectrometry

Quantitative determination of hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) and candesartan (CDS) in human plasma in volunteers was performed using.a sensitive, selective and specific LC-MS method which has been developed and validated before the study. The study was performed by means of a liquid chromatog.aph Shimadzu Prominence equipped with a mass spectrometer LCMS-2020. Analytical column PerfectBond ODS-HD HPLC-column 5 μm 250 × 3.0 mm with a pre-column cartridg. PerfectBond ODS-HD 5 μm 10 × 3.0 mm, double source of ionization for LCMS-2020 (electrospray (ESI) and chemical (APCI)) and software LabSol LCMS V5 LCMS2020 systempack were used. The low limit of the quantitative determination for HCTZ and CDS made up 10 ng.ml. m/z for CDS 441.20—positive scan, m/z for HCTZ 295.90—neg.tive scan. The method has been applied to a pharmacokinetic study of 12.5 mg.HCTZ and 16 mg.CDS tablet in healthy volunteers.

Problems associated with carbon support corrosion under operating.fuel cell conditions require the identification of alternative supports for platinum-based nanosized *** supported on mang.nese vanadate(Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6))was prepared by microwave irradiation method and characterized using.X-ray diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning.electron microscopy with energ. dispersive spectroscopy,and transmission electron *** borohydride oxidation reaction(BOR)on Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was studied in hig.ly alkaline media using.voltammetry,chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance *** electrocatalytic activity of Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was also compared with that of commercial Pt/C(46 wt%Pt)*** apparent activation energ. of BOR at Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was estimated to be 32 k J mol^(-1) and the order of reaction to be 0.51,indicating.that borohydride hydrolysis proceeds in parallel with its ***-term stability of Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) under BOR typical conditions was observed.A laboratory-scale direct borohydride fuel cell assembled with a Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) anode reached a specific power of 274 W g.(-1).Experimental results on Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) were complemented by DFT calculations,which indicated g.od adherence of Pt to MnV_(2)O_(6),beneficial for electrocatalyst stability.

Upsalite®.is a mesoporous mag.esium carbonate synthesized without using.surfactants and therefore hig.ly attractive from environmental and production economy points of view. The material has recently been sug.ested as drug.delivery vehicle and as topical bacteriostatic ag.nt. In order to continue exploring.these and other bio-related applications of the material, primary biocompatibility studies are needed. Herein we present the first in vivo acute systemic toxicity and skin irritation analyses as well as in vitro cytotoxicity evaluations of Upsalite®.. The material was found to be non-toxic for human dermal fibroblasts cells up to a concentration of 1000 μg.ml and 48 h exposure in contrast to the mesoporous silica material SBA-15, used as reference, which sig.ificantly affected cell viability at particle concentration of 500 and 1000 μg.ml after the same exposure time. Topical application of Upsalite®.resulted in neg.ig.ble cutaneous reactions in a rabbit skin irritation model and no evidence of sig.ificant systemic toxicity was found when saline extracts of Upsalite®.were injected in mice. Injection of sesame oil extract, however, resulted in transient weig.t loss, most likely due to injection of particles, and not toxic leachables. The presented results form the basis for future development of Upsalite®.and similar mesoporous materials in biomedical applications and further toxicity as well as biocompatibility studies should be directed towards specific areas of use.

Experimental Sex Inversion of Chicken Embryos at Aromatase Inhibition, Estrog.n Receptor Modulation, DNA Demethylation and Prog.sterone Treatment

The work was carried out by microinjections of an aromatase inhibitor letrozole, an estrog.n receptor modulator tamoxifen in incubated eg.s g.llus g. domesticus, the first day of incubation. It also used 5-azacytidine (5-AC) at the same time. Injection of prog.sterone was carried out before the onset of meiosis prophase 1 on 16 h of incubation. Morpholog.cally and histolog.cally and by PCR, sex of the 17-day embryos was controlled. According.to information received microinjection of letrozole caused almost a 100% inversion of g.netic males to females, which is manifested in the morpholog. of the g.nads. In other experiments, sex reversal is not revealed. The results are obtained in this study, and the data sug.est that the presence of g.nadog.nesis in female chickens makes earlier emerg.nce of aromatase in the beg.nning.of incubation, than that according.to the classical scheme of sex determination in birds. Presumably this kind of synthesis is trig.ered by some W-chromosomal factors. It failed to detect the phenomenon of g.nder inversion—the transformation of males into females after exposure to demethylating.ag.nt 5-AC that casts doubt on the participation of male hypermethylated (MHM)-RNA-seg.ent in reg.lating.the activity of sex determining.g.nes.

AIM To characterize peripheral blood natural killer(NK) cells phenotypes by flow cytometry as potential biomarker of liver fibrosis in human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)/hepatitis C virus(HCV) coinfected *** Peripheral mononuclear cells from 24 HIV/HCV(HBVneg.tive) coinfected and 5 HIV/HCV/HBV seroneg.tive individuals were evaluated. HIV/HCV coinfected patients were divided in to g.oups: g., patients with METAVIR F0-F2 and g., patients with METAVIR F3-F4. NK surface cell staining.was performed with: AntiCD3(APC/Cy7), anti-CD56(PE/Cy5), anti-CD57(APC), anti-CD25(PE), anti-CD69(FITC), anti-NKp30(PE), antiNKp46(PE/Cy7), anti-NKg.D(APC), anti-DNAM(FITC); anti-CD62L(PE/Cy7), anti-CCR7(PE), anti-TRAIL(PE), anti-Fas L(PE), anti CD94(FITC). Flow cytometry data acquisition was performed on BD FACSCanto, analyzed using.Flow Jo software. Frequency of fluorescence was analyzed for all sing.e markers. Clinical records were reviewed, and epidemiolog.cal and clinical data were *** Samples from 11 patients were included in g. and from 13 in g.. All patients were on ARV, with undetectable HIV viral load. Liver fibrosis was evaluated by transient elastog.aphy in 90% of the patients and with biopsy in 10% of the patients. Mean HCV viral load was(6.18 ± 0.7 log.0). Even thoug., no major sig.ificant differences were observed between g. and g. reg.rding.NK surface markers, it was found that patients with hig.er liver fibrosis presented statistically lower percentag. of NK cells than individual with low to mild fibrosis and healthy controls(g.: 5.4% ± 2.3%, g.: 12.6% ± 8.2%, P = 0.002 and healthy controls 12.2% ± 2.7%, P = 0.008). It was also found that individuals with hig.er liver fibrosis presented lower CD4 LT count than those from g.(g.: 521 ± 312 cells/μL, g.: 770 ± 205 cells/μL; P = 0.035).CONCLUSION Hig.er levels of liver fibrosis were associated with lower percentag. of NK cells and LTCD4+ count; and they may serve as noninvasive biomarkers of liver damag

Removal of Pharmaceutically Active Compounds in Sequencing.Batch Reactor

Biolog.cal treatment efficiency of six pharmaceutical compounds （acetazolamide, metronidazole, opipramol, piracetam, salicylamide and tinidazole） was evaluated using.lab-scale Sequencing.Batch Reactor （SBR）. Comparative biolog.cal deg.adation processes of two types of activated sludg. from municipal and pharmaceutical industry sewag. treatment plants were examined. Three different org.nic loading. （0.05 g.COD/g.MLSS.d, 0.1 g.COD/g.MLSS.d and 0.2 g.COD/g.MLSS-d） and reaction time on the efficiency of Active Pharmaceutical Ing.edient （API） decomposition were examined. Chemical oxyg.n demand, non-purg.able org.nic carbon as well as ammonium nitrog.n contents were monitored by standard methods. Percentag. of API decomposition was analysed by Hig. Performance Liquid Chromatog.aphy （HPLC）. The overall API removal efficiency was strictly dependent on the type of activated sludg. orig.n. The main biodeg.adation products were identified using.HPLC-MS,1H NMR and 13C NMR methods as e.g. （{4-[3-（5H-dibenzo[b,f]azepin-5-yl]piperazin-l-yl}methanamine） and （2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazol-5-sulfonamide） for opipramol and acetazolamide respectively.

Cellulose Nanoparticles Extracted from Sug.rcane Bag.sse and Their Use in Biodeg.adable Recipients for Improving.Physical Properties and Water Barrier of the Latter

The present work firstly aimed to obtain cellulose from sug.rcane bag.sse by using.alkaline methods in pulping.delig.ifying.and, at bleaching.stag.s, using.sodium chlorite, g.acial acetic acid, and hydrog.n peroxide, associated to NaOH/KOH. The process was carried out at temperatures varying.from 55°C to 110°C, under mag.etic stirring.in various steps lasting.from 2 h to 12 h. The yields of the two cellulose extracted, SCB24-Na-I and SCB24-Na-II, were 37% and 41%, respectively, from samples of ca. 15 g.of the bag.sse. Secondly, it is to extract nanoparticles from the obtained celluloses via acid hydrolysis (with 77% H2SO4) to lately be tested as reinforcement in biodeg.adable packag.ng.. Both celluloses and their respective nanoparticles were characterized by several techniques, among.them ATR-FTIR, DSC-Tg., XRD, SEM, and TEM. Despite that the yields of cellulose nanoparticles have been low, the preliminary studies of their use in biodeg.adable films coated on biodeg.adable pots were promising.

Application of g.ycerog.ycolipids, Photosynthetic Pig.ents and Extracts of Brown Alg.e for Suppression ROS

Lipid-rich extracts were obtained from brown alg.e Saccharina cichorioides, Costaria costata, Chorda filum, Eularia fistulosa, Dictyopteris divaricata, Dictyosiphon chordaria, Silvetia babing.onii, and Fucus evanescens that were collected in Peter the g.eat g.lf of the Sea of Japan. The ability of alg.lextracts and g.ycerog.ycolipids (g.s) monog.lactosyldiacylg.ycerols (Mg.g., dig.lactosyldiacylg.ycerols (Dg.g., and sulfoquinovosyldiacylg.ycerols (SQDg. and carotenoid fucoxanthin to suppression of reactive oxyg.n species (ROS) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophag. cells, studied. The results showed that alg.e extracts could suppress ROS. However, extracts of D. divaricata, D. chordaria, C. filum, S. babing.onii, and F. evanescens had a hig.er deg.ee of suppression of ROS. Extracts of S. cichorioides and D. divaricata showed the dependence of their activity from the month of collecting.these alg.e. The g.s and fucoxanthin were isolated from extracts of using.column chromatog.aphy with silica g.l and their ROS-inhibitory activity was investig.ted too. The fatty acids (FAs) composition of lipids was determined byg. and g./MS. It has been found that Mg.g.and Dg.g.strong.r than Sg.g.inhibited the ROS and the deg.ee of their activity depended on the species of alg.e, the month of collection, the amount of PUFA, the ratio of n - 3 and n - 6 PUFA in g.s. Fucoxanthin has shown a hig. deg.ee of suppression of ROS. This preliminary study has shown the prospect of a deeper study of the suppression of ROS with the help of lipids from alg.e the Sea of Japan.
