As forests in neotropical regions,particularly in developing countries,are devastated,interventions to restore biodiversity and its ecological functions are *** producers have thus been encouraged to grow trees for wood production as an economic *** objective of this study was to quantify the increment of wood density of four forest species from different successional classes of a mixed system of restoration in a neotropical forest in *** discs were sampled at breast height and analyzed radially by X-ray densitometry to obtain apparent density and basic *** trees each of a species from the pioneer,early and late secondary successional stages and of the dominant species in the climax *** radial profiles indicated increasing density from the pith to bark of trunks,except for some variations due to wood defects and *** density was 0.576 g cm^(-3),0.655 g cm^(-3),0.706 g cm^(-3)and 0.775 g cm^(-3),respectively,for Peltophorum dubium,Schinus terebinthifolius,Cariniana estrellensis and Hymenaea *** profiles indicated higher amplitudes in the apparent densities for slow-growing species.X-ray densitometry generated parameters such as minimum,average and maximum densities,and radial density *** parameters are important for understanding the ecological functional role of successional classes of the Atlantic Forest from the Neotropical region.

Fractionation of rare earth elements（REE） and other trace metal concentrations（Th, U, Cd,Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn） between mangrove sediments and claw muscles and shells of male crabs（Ucides cordatus） from a subtropical estuary highly impacted by fertilizer industry activities was investigated. This is the first record of REE distribution in these organisms,and the results showed higher accumulations of these metals, U and Th in shells, probably related to the replacement of Ca during molting. Contents of Cd, Cr and Ni were similar in both tissues, but Cu, Zn and Pb were mostly accumulated in the claw muscle with concentrations above those considered safe for human consumption according to the Brazilian legislation. REE fractionation was different in the analyzed tissues being softer in the shells. The results provided evidences that the water absorbed during molting controls the chemistry of REE in shells. In contrast, the chemistry of REE in the claw muscle, in which was observed preferential absorption of light REE, is controlled by diet. REE fractionation obtained for the claw muscles was closely correlated to the observed in the contaminated substrate and in materials related to the production of phosphate fertilizers（contamination source）, which supports their transference to this Ucides cordatus tissue without fractionation by the ingestion of sediments. Our results showed the potential use of crab tissues for monitoring REE and trace element sources in mangrove areas, with claw muscle exhibiting the contaminant source fingerprint.

Nuclear spins are among the potential candidates prospected for quantum information technology.A recent breakthrough enabled to atomically resolve their interaction with the electron spin,the so-called hyperfine interaction,within individual atoms utilizing scanning tunneling microscopy(STM).Intriguingly,this was only realized for a few species put on a two-layers thick ***,we systematically quantify from first-principles the hyperfine interactions of the whole series of 3d transition adatoms deposited on various thicknesses of MgO,NaF,NaCl,h–BN,and Cu2N *** identify the adatom-substrate complexes with the largest hyperfine interactions and unveil the main trends and *** reveal the core mechanisms at play,such as the interplay of the local bonding geometry and the chemical nature of the thin films,which trigger transitions between high-and low-spin states accompanied with subtle internal rearrangements of the magnetic *** providing a general map of hyperfine interactions,our work has immediate implications in future STM investigations aiming at detecting and realizing quantum concepts hinging on nuclear spins.

Objective:To determine an algorithm for molecular diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis(VL)by kinetoplast DNA(kDNA)(RV1/RV2)and internal transcriber spacer(ITS1)(LITSR/L5.8 S)polymerase chain reaction(PCR),complemented by ITS 1 PCR restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP),using peripheral blood or bone marrow aspirate from patients with suspected ***:Biological samples were submitted to the gold standard for the diagnosis of VL and molecular diagnosis represented by ITS 1 PCR,kDNA PCR,and ITS 1 PCR *** samples were obtained from seven groups:groupⅠ,82 samples from patients with confirmed VL;groupⅡ,16 samples from patients under treatment for VL;groupⅢ,14 samples from dogs with canine visceral leishmaniasis(CVL);groupⅣ,a pool of six experimentally infected sandflies(Lutzomya longipalpis);group V,18 samples from patients with confirmed tegumentary leishmaniasis(TL)and groupsⅥandⅦwere from control groups without ***:The following gold standard and molecular examination results were obtained for each of the seven groups:groupⅠ:parasitologic and immunochromatographic tests showed a sensitivity of 76.3%(61 of 80)and 68.8%(55 of 80),respectively,and a sensitivity of 97.6%(80 of 82)and 92.7%(76 of 82)by ITS1 and kDNA PCR,*** ITS1 PCR RFLP(HaeⅢ)analysis of the 80 positive samples,52.5%(42 of 80)generated three fragments of 180,70,and 50 bp,corresponding to the pattern of Leishmania infantum infantum;groupⅡ:negative for the parasitologic methods and positive for IrK39(100%,16 of 16),presented 12.5%(2 of 16)of positivity by ITS 1 PCR and 25.0%(4 of 16)by kDNA PCR;groupⅢ:positive in the parasitologic and serologic tests(100%,14 of 14),presented 85.7%(12 of 14)of positivity by ITS1 PCR and kDNA ***1 PCR RFLP showed that 83.3%(10 of 12)of the canine samples contained parasites with profiles similar to ***;groupⅣpresented amplifications by ITS1 PCR and kDNA ***1 PCR products were analyzed by RFLP,generating a profile similar to

Different culture conditions applied to in vitro shoot multiplication of two Eucalyptus benthamii explant sources

Eucalyptus adult material requires more successive subcultures in the in vitro multiplication phase for increased vigor and cellular activity. This study evaluated the endophytic manifestation and shoot multiplication of one 13-year-old Eucalyptus benthamii clone under different culture conditions and used canopy branches(CB) and trunk base material as explant sources. The culture media were wood plant medium(WPM), Murashige and Skoog medium(MS) and JADS(Correia and co-authors medium).Based on the results of the initial multiplication experiment, further tests examined sucrose concentrations and p H. Morphophysiology, dry mass production, endophyticmanifestation and histochemical were determined. Explant sources responded differently to MS and JADS media, but the WPM medium promoted homogeneous *** responses were similar for both explant sources when sucrose concentrations varied. Shoots died in the absence of sucrose, showed high oxidation at 60 g L-1 and optimal development at 30 g L-1. Endophytes were more evident for shoots from the CB origin. Explant sources responded distinctively to treatment due to physiological and intrinsic genetic factors. Therefore, explant sources, different culture media, sucrose concentration and p H may determine micropropagation success and influence the presence and/or intensity of endophytic manifestation.

Preconsolidation pressure(σp)of soil can be considered as an indicator of the Load Bearing Capacity(LBC),which is the tolerated surface pressure before compaction,often caused by the traffic of agricultural *** this pioneering study,a remote sensing approach was introduced to estimate LBC throughσp from soils of the“Rio Preto”Hydrographic Basin,Bahia State,Brazil,in a monthly time lapse from 2016 to ***,σp is measured by a laborious and time demanding laboratory analysis,making it unfeasible to map large *** innovative methodology of this work consists of combining active–passive satellite data on soil moisture and pedotransfer functions of clay content and water matric potential to obtain geo-located estimates ofσ*** were analysed under different classes of soil use,land cover and slope;95%confidence intervals were built for the time series of mean values of LBC for each *** overall seasonal variation in LBC estimates is similar in areas with annual crops,grasslands and natural vegetation,and flat areas are less affected by soil moisture variations over the year(between seasons).LBC decreased,in general,at about 0.5%a year in flat ***,these areas demand attention,since they occupy 86%of the Basin and are mostly subjected to agricultural soil management and surface pressure by heavy machinery.

Quantitative analysis of trigonelline in some Annona species by proton NMR spectroscopy

A quantitative ^(1)H NMR method(qHNMR)was used to measure the trigonelline content in the leaves of six species of the Annona *** methodology employed compared the intensities of the signals at δ9.14(H-2)andδ0.00,the internal standard TSP-d_(4).This measuring method was able to establish the concentration of trigonelline in the range from 0.67 to 10.04 mg·g^(-1) depending on the investigated extract.

Context: Advanced heart failure (AHF) poses a global challenge, where heart transplantation is a treatment option but limited by donor scarcity. Proposal: This study aims to enhance the performance of ventricular assist devices (VADs) in the face of adverse events (AEs) using a resilience-based approach. The objective is to develop a method for integrating resilience attributes into VAD control systems, employing dynamic risk analysis and control strategies. Results: The outcomes include a resilient control architecture enabling anticipatory, regenerative, and degenerative actions in response to AEs. A method of applied resilience (MAR) based on dynamic risk management and resilience attribute analysis was proposed. Conclusion: Dynamic integration between medical and technical teams allows continuous adaptation of control systems to meet patient needs over time, improving reliability, safety, and effectiveness of VADs, with potential positive impact on the health of heart failure patients.

Assessment of Vulnerability of Oxisols to Compaction in the Cerrado Region of Brazil

The Cerrado region of Brazil,one of the fastest-growing agricultural areas in the world,is undergoing very rapid mechanization;this development is good for the country's economy but may also snowball into substantial loss of agricultural land and other environmental degradation if the soil susceptibility and vulnerability to compaction is not well *** this study we explored different techniques for estimating soil intrinsic abilities to withstand applied pressure using the prevalent Oxisols of the Cerrado region under native *** samples were collected from three sites within the region and subjected to 1) compressibility test;2) manual penetration resistance test;3) automated penetration resistance test;and 4) packing density *** four methods produced analogous *** results showed the significant influence of soil structure on the inherent strength and compaction susceptibility of the *** also established the association of soil structure with the mineralogy of the *** is noteworthy that the packing density which was developed from very simple and easily obtained parameters could give a picture of the tendency of the soil to ***,this approach would be useful in developing compaction susceptibility maps for the *** could be concluded that most of the Oxisols in the Cerrado region would support mechanized agricultural production very ***,there is need for careful management of the mechanization process to avert *** management techniques should include conservationist practices such as no till in order to maintain as much as possible the favorable structure and drainage of these very old soils.
