Whole Leea macrophylla ethanolic extract normalizes kidney deposits and recovers renal impairments in an ethylene glycol-induced urolithiasis model of rats

Objective:To investigate the antilithiatic effect of the whole Leea macrophylla(L macrophylla) Roxb(Leeaeeae) ethanol extract in ediylene glycol-induced urolithiasis model of ***: Forty two seven weeks old male wistar albino rats were randomly divided into two major groups namely:preventive(n=18) and therapeutic(n=24).Preventive group was further subdivided into 3 groups of 6 rats namely:preventive control(PC),preventive lithiatic control(PLC) and preventive lithiatic ***(PLLM).Similarly,therapeutic group was also subdivided into 4 groups of 6 rats namely:therapeutic control(TC),therapeutic lithiatic control(TLC).therapeutic lithitatic L macrophylla(TLLM) and therapeutic lithiatic cystone(TLCYS).The lithiasis was induced by 0.75%(v/v) ethylene glycol in the drinking water of all groups except the PC and TC *** urinary ionic parameters such as calcium,inorganic phosphate,oxalate,magnesium & creatinine and renal morphology were altered by ediylene glycol,which were partially recovered by 14 d preventive and almost fully recovered by 28 d therapeutic intervention trials with L macrophylla extract(500 mg/kg BW daily).Results:Significant difference on recovery was observed between preventive and dierapeutic interventional ***-urolithiatic effect of cystone was significantly(P<0.001) higher than extracts.L macrophylla extract was found nontoxic in the acute toxicity ***:The results of this study demonstrated very promising antiurolithiatic effect of *** extract with preventive and therapeutic treatments in this experimental condition.

Objective:To determine the antioxidant and hepatoprotective potential of methanol extract of rhizome of Curcuma angustifolia(MECA)against carbon tetrachloride(CCl4)-induced hepatic damage in vitro and in ***:DPPH,ABTS and reducing power assays were performed to estimate the antioxidant effect of *** vitro cytotoxicity of MECA against HepG2 cells was evaluated,whereas serum biochemical parameters and levels of antioxidative enzymes were measured in vivo and in ***,histopathological studies were estimated in order to investigate the hepatoprotective efficacy of ***,GC-MS analysis of the extract was performed to identify the chemical ***:MECA exhibited strong antioxidant activity and attenuated CCl4-induced decrease in the viability of HepG2 ***,MECA significantly restored the ALT,AST,ALP,TP and albumin level in comparison with the CCl4 *** pre-treatment with MECA,effects of SOD,CAT and GSH were increased as well as lipid peroxidation amount decreased on CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in in vitro and in vivo ***,histopathological observation confirmed that MECA reduced liver injury induced by CCl4 in ***-MS analysis confirmed the presence of bioactive constituents such as α-tocopherol(12.27%),phytol(7.61%),squalene(3.71%),β-sitosterol(2.19%),eugenol(2.59%),curcumenol(1.20%),β-elemene(1.00%)and eucalyptol(0.89%).Conclusions:MECA contains antioxidant and hepatoprotective constituents such asα-tocopherol,phytol,squalene and eugenol and exerts hepatoprotective effect both in vitro and in vivo.

Selection of Rice Genotypes for Salinity Tolerance Through Morpho-Biochemical Assessment

The present study reported the morpho-biochemical evaluation of 15 selected rice genotypes for salt tolerance at the seedling stage. Growth parameters including shoot length, root length, plant biomass, plant turgid weight, plant dry weight along with relative water content were measured after exposure to saline solution （with electrical conductivity value of 12 dS/m）. Genotypes, showing significant differential responses towards salinity in the fields, were assessed through 14 salinity-linked morpho-biochemical attributes, measured at 14 d after exposure of seedling in saline nutrient solution. Relative water content, chlorophyll a/b, peroxidase activity and plant biomass were identified as potential indicators of salt tolerance. Principal component analysis and successive Hierarchical clustering using Euclidean distance revealed that Talmugur, Gheus, Ghunsi, Langalmura, Sabitapalui, and Sholerpona were promising genotypes for further breeding programmes in rice. The maximum Euclidean distance was plotted between Thavallakanan and Talmugur （7.49）, followed by Thavallakanan and Langalmura （6.82）, indicating these combinations may be exploited as parental lines in hybridization programmes to develop salinity tolerant variety.

Objective:To investigate the elemental composition of the leaves and flowers of Catharanthus roseus(***) due to the plant's wide application in the indigenous medicinal system and its chemical constituents' ***:The atomic absorption spectrophotometer was used for quantitative analysis of various ***:Total 13 important elements were analyzed in leaves and flowers of *** indicated the presence of Na,k,Ca,Mg,Cr,Fe,Zn,Al,Cu,Ni,Pb,Cd and Mn in both leaves and *** most important finding of the work was that,leaves of *** showed high concentration of all elements except k and Zn while flowers of *** showed higher concentration of k and ***:The elemental composition in both leaves and flowers of *** were found to be ***,different parts of this medicinal plant are enriched in some micro and macro nutrients like Fe,Ca,Na,k,Zn,which are very important for biological metabolic system as well as human health.

Seismic analysis of diagrid structural frames with shear-link fuse devices

This paper presents a new concept for enhancing the seismic ductility and damping capacity of diagrid structural frames by using shear-link fuse devices and its seismic performance is assessed through nonlinear static and dynamic analysis. The architectural elegancy of the diagrid structure attributed to its triangular leaning member configuration and high structural redundancy make this system a desirable choice for tall building design. However, forming a stable energy dissipation mechanism in diagrid framing remains to be investigated to expand its use in regions with high seismicity. To address this issue, a diagrid framing design is proposed here which provides a competitive design option in highly seismic regions through its increased ductility and improved energy dissipation capacity provided by replaceable shear links interconnecting the diagonal members at their *** structural characteristics and seismic behavior （capacity, stiffness, energy dissipation, ductility） of the diagrid structural frame are demonstrated with a 21-story building diagrid frame subjected to nonlinear static and dynamic analysis. The findings from the nonfinear time history analysis verify that satisfactory seismic performance can be achieved by the proposed diagrid frame subjected to design basis earthquakes in California. In particular, one appealing feature of the proposed diagrid building is its reduced residual displacement after strong earthquakes.

Seismic retrofitting of reinforced concrete frame structures using GFRP-tube-confined-concrete composite braces

This paper presents a new type of structural bracing intended for seismic retrofitting use in framed structures. This special composite brace, termed glass-fiber-reinforced-polymer （GFRP）-tube-confined-concrete composite brace, is comprised of concrete confined by a GFRP tube and an inner steel core for energy dissipation. Together with a contribution from the GFRP-tube confined concrete, the composite brace shows a substantially increased stiffness to control story drift, which is often a preferred feature in seismic retrofitting. An analysis model is established and implemented in a general finite element analysis program - OpenSees, for simulating the load-displacement behavior of the composite brace. Using this model, a parametric study of the hysteretic behavior （energy dissipation, stiffness, ductility and strength） of the composite brace was conducted under static cyclic loading and it was found that the area ratio of steel core to concrete has the greatest influence among all the parameters considered. To demonstrate the application of the composite brace in seismic retrofitting, a three-story nonductile reinforced concrete （RC） frame structure was retrofitted with the composite braces. Pushover analysis and nonlinear time-history analyses of the retrofitted RC frame structure was performed by employing a suite of 20 strong ground motion earthquake records. The analysis results show that the composite braces can effectively reduce the peak seismic responses of the RC frame structure without significantly increasing the base shear demand.

The effects of fire and seasonal variations on soil properties in Juniperus excelsa *** in the Alborz Mountains,Iran

This study was conducted in Juniperus excels a stands on the southern slopes of Iran’s Alborz Mountains,to determine the effects of fire and seasonal variations on soil physicochemical properties and enzyme activities.A total of 64 composite soil s amples were randomly collected in the spring and fall from two burned and unburned sites at depths of 0-10 and 10-20 *** results of a two-way ANOVA analysis indicate that fire increased the organic carbon(OC),total nitrogen(TN),and available phosphorus(P_(ava)) contents of the soil by 16%,59%,and 53%,***,when burned sites were compared to unburned sites,the activities of acid phosphatase(ACP) and urease enzymes increased by 73% and 12%,***,fire did not affect soil texture,bulk density(BD),pH,electric conductivity(EC),exchangeable potassium(kexc),or the activities of alkaline phosphatase(ALP) and *** to two-way ANOVA results,OC,TN,P_(ava),k_(exc),and EC values were significantly higher in the fall,whereas pH and ALP values were significantly higher in the ***,phosphorous and dehydrogenase activity were significantly different in selected soil factors at 0-10 and10-20 cm *** interaction of fire,season,and soil depth were significant for phosphorous and ***,the activity of ALP correlated well with pH(r=0.68),P(r=-0.74),OC(r=-0.53),and TN(r=-0.37),whereas the activity of ACP correlated significantly with OC(r=0.64) and TN(r=0.71).Two years after the fire,soil properties in *** a stands had either improved or remained unaffected,returning to pre-fire ***,soil chemical properties varied significantly across sampling seasons,which should be considered when comparing and interpreting soil data in future research.

Graph-Directed Coalescence Hidden Variable Fractal Interpolation Functions

Fractal interpolation function (FIF) is a special type of continuous function which interpolates certain data set and the attractor of the Iterated Function System (IFS) corresponding to a data set is the graph of the FIF. Coalescence Hidden-variable Fractal Interpolation Function (CHFIF) is both self-affine and non self-affine in nature depending on the free variables and constrained free variables for a generalized IFS. In this article, graph directed iterated function system for a finite number of generalized data sets is considered and it is shown that the projection of the attractors on is the graph of the CHFIFs interpolating the corresponding data sets.

Evaluation of Genetic Divergence in Various Potato Genotypes Grown in Bangladesh through Different Traits Assessment

The goal of the study was to quantify the genetic diversity of different potato varieties. Five groups were named to classify the 25 genres of potatoes as: Cluster I (Lalpakri, Diamond), Cluster II (Hagrai, Green Mountain, G.M.O., Elvera), Cluster III (Atlantic, Shepody, Raja, Fundy, Multa, Granulla, Shibilati, Japanese Red), Cluster IV (Atlas, Brondy, Yucon Gold, Monona, Petrones, Cheroki), and Cluster V (Calwhite, Prelude, Allblue, Russet, Burbank, TPS-67). The highest and lowest genotypes are found in Clusters III and I, respectively. The two groups’ maximum inter-cluster distance (the cluster’s distance between them) demonstrates the enormous diversity between Clusters II & III. Cluster III had the greatest intra-cluster distance (distance within a set), whereas Cluster V had the smallest. In most cases, the distance between gaps was more significant than the distance within the holes, showing greater genetic diversity between different groups’ genotypes. The highest, second highest, and third highest eigenvalues, accompanying the positive canonical values for Vectors I and II of three characteristics: average tuber weight in each plant, the tubers number in each plant, and the eyes number in each tuber, showed the most outstanding contribution to the complete difference between genotypes. Of the nine features, the smaller leaves number in each plant, the shorter plant height, the more minor genotypes, the fewer eyes per tube generated from Cluster I, the maximum height of the plants, the high-quality tubers in each plant, the tubers number in each plant, the fresh weight in each plant, and the leaf number in each plant from Cluster II could be chosen in the role of parents in this program for hybridization. Given the size of the genetic distance, the various characteristics that contribute to the overall difference, and the average population size, Hagrai, Green Mountain, O.M.G., Elvera Cluster II and Cluster I, Lalpakri, and Diamond genotypes can be regarded a

Nutritional, Textural, Sensory Properties and Storage Stability Evaluation of Newly Formulated Strawberry Bar

An analytical study was conducted to develop a strawberry bar and analysis of the nutritional quality and storage stability of a newly formulated strawberry bar. In proximate analysis moisture, ash, pH, acidity, vitamin C, total phenolic content, and antioxidant of strawberry pulp were found 82%, 0.5%, 2.57, 1.38%, 49 mg/100g, 0.33%, 75.17% whereas, in the strawberry bar, it was found 18%, 0.71%, 2.10, 1.10%, 22 mg/100g, 0.14%, 56.13% respectively. For textural properties analysis, the textural profile of the strawberry bar such as hardness, factorability, viscosity, cohesiveness, adhesiveness, springiness, gumminess, chewiness, probe diameter, threshold, filtering range of strawberry bar was found 5.538 × 104 N/m, 0.000 N/m2, 1.687 × 104 N/m2, 0.6636, 2.908 × 103 J/m3, 0.8664, 3.675 × 104 N/m2, 3.184 × 104 N/m2, 20.000 mm, 5 N, 0.4 N respectively whereas the maximum level was 17.4 N at 29.628 seconds and the minimum level was -5.3 N at 30.166 seconds. The sensory evaluation of the strawberry bar was conducted based on nine-point hedonic scales. The sensory evaluation results indicated that the appearance of the strawberry bar was liked very much and the taste, texture, color, aroma, and overall acceptability of the strawberry bar were liked moderately by panelists. In microbiological analysis, the Total Viable Count (TVC) and Total Coliform Count (TCC) of the strawberry bar were found safe levels for up to third days. But on the sixth day, the TCC of the strawberry bar was not found and the TVC of the strawberry bar was found 17 × 104 cfu/g respectively which is higher than the permitted value (Gulf Standard: 105 cfu/g). From the microbial point of view, the newly formulated strawberry bar was safe to consume for up to 3 days but not for 6 days.
