PIV Measurements of Flows around the Wind Turbines with a Flanged-Diffuser Shroud

The wind turbines with a flanged-diffuser shroud -so called ＂wind lens turbine＂- are developed as one of high performance wind turbines by ohya et al. In order to investigate the flow characteristics and flow acceleration, the paper presents the flow velocity measurements of a long-type and a compact-type wind turbines with a flanged-diffuser shroud by particle image velocimetry. In the case of the long type wind turbine, the velocity vec- tors of the inner flow field of the diffuser for turbine blades rotating and no blades rotating are presented at Rey- nolds number, 0.9x105. Fur^thermore the flow fields between with and without rotating are compared. Through the PIV measurement results, one can realize that the turbine blades rotating affects as suppress the disturbance and the flow separation near the inner wall of the diffuser. The time average velocity vectors are made on the av- erage of the instantaneous velocity data. There are two large vortices in downstream region of the diffuser. One vortex behind the flange acts as suck in wind to the diffuser and raise the inlet flow velocity. Another large vortex appears in downstream. It might be act as blockage vortex of main flow. The large blockage vortex is not clear in the instantaneous velocity vectors, however it exists clearly in the time average flow field. The flow field around the wind turbine with a compact-type flanged-diffuser shroud is also investigated. The flow pattern behind the flange of the compact-type turbine is the same as the long-type one. It means that the effect of flow acceleration is caused by the unsteady vortices behind the flange. The comparison with CFD and PIV results of meridional time-average streamlines after the compact-type diffuser is also presented.

PIC-EDDY Simulation of Different Impurities Deposition in Gaps of Carbon Tiles

A 3D Monte Carlo （MC） code PIC- EDDY, based on EDDY （erosion and deposition dynamic simulation） code, was used to investigate the redeposition of different impurities in the gaps of C tiles. By incorporating the rate coefficients of beryllium （Be） and tungsten （W） into the code, we obtain deposition profiles of hydrocarbon, beryllium and tungsten particles in the toroidal and poloidal gaps, respectively. The redeposition rate of tungsten was found to be higher than those of other impurities in the gaps, except at the bottom, due to its easier local deposition within one gyroradius. Due to the effect of reflection coefficients of hydrocarbon fragments on graphite, fewer hydrocarbons were resided at the entrance while more were deposited on the sides of the gap. At elevated plasma temperatures （such as 30 eV）, asymmetric deposition distributions were observed between the toroidal and poloidal gaps due to the dominant ionized particles. Ions were mainly deposited within 1 mm depth inside gaps, and the bottom deposition particles were almost all neutrals.

In Xenopus, injection of S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase (SAMDC) mRNA into fertilized eggs or2-cell stage embryos induces massive cell dissociation and embryo-lysis at the early gastrula stage due toactivation of the maternal program of apoptosis. We injected SAMDC mRNA into only one of the animal side blastomeres of embryos at different stages of cleavage, and examined the timing of the onset of theapoptotic reaction. In the injection at 4- and 8-cell stages, a considerable number of embryos developed intotadpoles and in the injection at 16- and 32-cell stages, all the embryos became tadpoles, although tadpolesobtained were sometimes abnormal. However, using GFP as a lineage tracer, we found that descendant cellsof the blastomere injected with SAMDC mRNA at 8- to 32-cell stages are confined within the blastocoel atthe early gastrula stage and undergo apoptotic cell death within the blastocoel, in spite of the continueddevelopment of the injected embryos. Balloon overtube-guided colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection

AIM:To evaluate the usefulness of a balloon overtube to assist colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)using a ***:The results of 45 consecutive patients who underwent colorectal ESD were analyzed in a single tertiary endoscopy *** preoperative evaluation of access to the lesion,difficulties were experienced in the positioning and stabilization of a gastroscope in 15 patients who were thus assigned to the balloonguided ESD group.A balloon overtube was placed with a gastroscope to provide an endoscopic channel to the lesion in cases with preoperatively identified difficulties related to *** ESD was performed following standard procedures.A submucosal fluid bleb was created with hyaluronic acid solution.A circumferential mucosal incision was made to marginate the *** isolated lesion was finally excised from the deeper layers with repetitive electrosurgical dissections with needle *** success of colorectal ESD,procedural feasibility,and procedure-related complications were the main outcomes and ***:The overall en bloc excision rate of colorectal ESD during this study at our institution was 95.6%.En bloc excision of the lesion was successfully achieved in 13 of the 15 patients(86.7%)in the balloon overtube-guided colorectal ESD group,which was comparable to the results of the standard ESD group with better accessibility to the lesion(30/30,100%,not statistically significant).CONCLUSION:Use of a balloon overtube can improve access to the lesion and facilitate scope manipulation for colorectal ESD.

Risk factors for bleeding after endoscopic submucosal dissection for gastric lesions

AIM:To assess risk factors for bleeding after gastric endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) and to develop preventive ***:This retrospective study was performed in a tertiary referral center.A total of 328 patients underwent ESD for 398 gastric neoplasms between July 2007 and June *** main outcome was association between post-ESD bleeding and the following:age;sex;comorbidities;daily use of medicine potentially related to gastric injury/bleeding;location,size,and histological depth of lesions;ulceration;experience of operator coagulating the ulcer floor,and duration of *** also determined the relationship between the location of post-ESD bleeding and risk factors for ***:Univariate analysis revealed significant risk factors:tumor location [odds ratio(OR),2.86;95% CI:1.21-6.79,P=0.024],coagulator experience(OR,4.29;95% CI:1.43-12.86,P=0.009),and medicine potentially related to gastric injury/bleeding(OR,2.80;95% CI:1.14-6.90,P=0.039).Multivariate logistic regression analysis confirmed significant,independent risk factors:tumor in lower third of stomach(OR,2.47;95% CI:1.02-5.96,P=0.044),beginner coagulator(OR,3.93;95% CI:1.29-11.9,P=0.016),and medicine(OR,2.76;95% CI:1.09-6.98,P=0.032).We classif ied cases of post-ESD bleeding into two groups(bleeding at the ulcer margin vs bleeding at the center) and found that bleeding at the margin occurred more frequently with beginner coagulators compared with experts(OR,16.00;95% CI:1.22-210.59,P=0.040).CONCLUSION:Beginner coagulators,tumor in the antrum,and medicines were significant risk factors for post-ESD *** at the ulcer margin frequently occurred with beginner operators.

Childhood-onset inflammatory bowel diseases associated with mutation of Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein gene

AIM To screen primary immunodeficiency,Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome(WAS),and chronic granulomatous disease(CGD) among children with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS This was a single-center retrospective study. Eighteen children with IBD were investigated. We analyzed their expression of Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein(WASP) in lymphocytes and superoxide generation in phagocytes using flow cytometry. When the expression of WASP or superoxide generation was low or absent,we performed genetic analysis to determine the cause of this. RESULTS Eighteen patients were classified as having ulcerative colitis(n = 10),Crohn's disease(n = 5),or IBDunclassified(n = 3). In total,three patients revealed low expression of WASP associated with a WAS gene c.1378 C>T ***460 Ser mutation,which has previously been reported as a pathogenic mutation in WAS and X-linked thrombocytopenia. However,with respect to the major symptoms of WAS,none of these three patients showed either thrombocytopenia or increased susceptibility to infection,but one patient showed generalized eczema. No CGD patients were discovered in this *** Despite the lack of typical clinical manifestations of WAS,low expression of WASP could be associated with the pathogenesis of a subtype of IBD patients.

Short-and long-term outcomes of endoscopically treated superficial non-ampullary duodenal epithelial tumors

BACKGROUND It is widely recognized that endoscopic resection(ER) of superficial nonampullary duodenal epithelial tumors(SNADETs) is technically challenging and may carry high risks of intraoperative and delayed bleeding and *** adverse events could be more critical than those occurring in other levels of the gastrointestinal tract. Because of the low prevalence of the disease and the high risks of severe adverse events, the curability including short-and long-term outcomes have not been standardized *** To investigate the curability including short-and long-term outcomes of ER for SNADETs in a large case *** This retrospective study included cases that underwent ER for SNADETs at our university hospital between March 2004 and July 2017. Short-term outcomes of ER were measured based on en bloc and R0 resection rates as well as adverse events. Long-term outcomes included local recurrence detected on endoscopic surveillance and disease-specific mortality in patients followed up for ≥ 12 mo after *** In the study, 131 patients with 147 SNADETs were analyzed. The 147 ERs consisted of 136 endoscopic mucosal resections(EMRs)(93%) and 11 endoscopic submucosal dissections(ESDs)(7%). The median tumor diameter was 10 *** pathology diagnosis was adenocarcinoma(56/147, 38%), high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia(44/147, 30%), or low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia(47/147, 32%). The R0 resection rate was 68%(93/136) in the EMR group and73%(8/11) in the ESD group, respectively. Cap-assisted EMR(known as EMR-C)showed a higher rate of R0 resection compared to the conventional method of EMR using a snare(78% vs 62%, P = 0.06). No adverse event was observed in the EMR group, whereas delayed bleeding, intraoperative perforation, and delayed perforation in 3, 3, and 5 patients occurred in the ESD group, respectively. Near Wake of a Horizontal Circular Cylinder in Stably Stratified Flows

The near wake of a circular cylinder in linearly stratified flows of finite depth was experimentally investigated by means of flow visualization and measurements of vortex shedding frequencies, at Reynolds numbers 3.5 × 103-1.2 × 104 and stratification parameters kd 0-2.0. The non-dimensional parameter kd is defined as kd = Nd/U, where N is the Brunt-Vaisala frequency, d, the diameter of the cylinder, and U, the approaching flow velocity. The study demonstrates that as kd increases from zero, the vortex shedding from a circular cylinder progressively strengthens, while the Strouhal number gradually becomes lower than that for homogeneous flow. This phenomenon can be explained by the effect of the increasingly stable stratification which enhances the two-dimensionality of the near-wake flow of the circular cylinder;the enhanced two-dimensionality of the flow strengthens the roll-up of the separated shear layer. Above a certain value of kd, however, vortex formation and shedding are strongly suppressed and the Strouhal number rises sharply. This observation is attributable to the development of stationary lee waves downstream of the circular cylinder because the lee waves strongly suppress vertical fluid motions.
