Brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) attracts increasing attention from both research and clinical fields because of its important functions in the central nervous system. An adequate amount of BDNF is critical to develop and maintain normal neuronal circuits in the brain. Given that loss of BDNF function has beenreported in the brains of patients with neurodegenerative or psychiatric diseases, understanding basic properties of BDNF and associated intracellular processes is imperative. In this review, we revisit the gene structure, transcription, translation, transport and secretion mechanisms of BDNF. We also introduce implications of BDNF in several brain-related diseases including Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, depression and schizophrenia.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF),a critical neurotrophin,regulates many neuronal aspects including cell differentiation,cell survival,neurotransmission,and synaptic plasticity in the central nervous system(CNS) .Though BDNF has two types of receptors,high affinity tropomyosin-related kinase(Trk) B and low affinity p75 receptors,BDNF positively exerts its biological effects on neurons via activation of TrkB and of resultant intracellular signaling cascades including mitogenactivated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase,phospholipase Cγ,and phosphoinositide 3-kinase ***,it is possible that alteration in the expression and/or function of BDNF in the CNS is involved in the pathophysiology of various brain diseases such as stroke,Parkinson's disease,Alzheimer's disease,and mental *** the other hand,glucocorticoids,stress-induced steroid hormones,also putatively contribute to the pathophysiology of ***,in addition to the reduction in BDNF levels due to increased glucocorticoid exposure,current reports demonstrate possible interactions between glucocorticoids and BDNF-mediated neuronal functions. Other steroid hormones,such as estrogen,are involved in not only sexual differentiation in the brain,but also numerous neuronal events including cell survival and synaptic ***,it is well known that estrogen plays a role in the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease,Alzheimer's disease,and mental illness,while serving to regulate BDNF expression and/or ***,we present a broad overview of the current knowledge concerning the association between BDNF expression/function and steroid hormones(glucocorticoids and estrogen).

Microstructural origins of high strength of Al-Si alloy manufactured by laser powder bed fusion:In-situ synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction approach

The microstructural factors contributing to the high strength of additive-manufactured Al-Si alloys us-ing laser-beam powder bed fusion(PBF-LB)were identified by in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction in tensile deformation and transmission electron ***-LB and heat treatment were employed to manufacture Al-12%Si binary alloy specimens with different *** an early stage of de-formation prior to macroscopic yielding,stress was dominantly partitioned into the α-Al matrix,rather than the Si phase in all *** concentrated Si solute(~3%)in the α-Al matrix promoted the dynamic precipitation of nanoscale Si phase during loading,thereby increasing the yield *** macroscopic yielding,the partitioned stress in the Si phase monotonically increased in the strain-hardening regime with an increase in the dislocation density in the α-Al *** a later stage of strain hardening,the flow curves of the partitioned stress in the Si phase yielded stress relaxation owing to plastic ***,Si-phase particles localized along the cell walls in the cellular-solidified microstructure play a significant role in dislocation obstacles for strain *** with the results of the heat-treated specimens with different microstructural factors,the dominant strengthening factors of PBF-LB manufactured Al-Si alloys were discussed.

The purpose of this article is to propose the idea of ＂a partial stability constant＂ for the complex formation of polyamine polyacetic acids with tripositive rare earth ion. Each coordinating group has its own characteristic stability constant,i.e.,＂the partial stability constant＂ and simple numerical addition can be used among the partial logarithm of the stability constant（PLSC）, for explanation of the total stability constants. The structures of the rare earth-diethylenetriamine-N,N,N＇,N＇,N＂-pentaacetic acid（DTPA）complexes in aqueous solution has been discussed from the point of PLSC.

Study on the Effects of Flow in the Volute Casing on the Performance of a Sirocco Fan

The flow at the exit from the runner blade of a centrifugal fan with forward curved blades (a sirocco fan) sometimes separates and becomes unstable. We have conducted many researches on the impeller shape of a sirocco fan, proper inlet and exit blade angles were considered to obtain optimum performance. In this paper, the casing shape were decided by changing the circumferential angle, magnifying angle and the width, 21 sorts of casings were used. Performance tests, inner flow velocity and pressure distributions were measured as well. Computational fluid dynamic calculations were also made and compared with the experimental results. Finally, the most suitable casing shape for best performance is considered.

Probing CO at a specific site on a metal oxide surface is essential for characterizing various applications such as CO oxidation,hydrogenation,and water–gas shift ***,we use atomic force microscopy and Kelvin probe force microscopy to probe the CO on a rutile TiO_(2)(110)*** results indicate that CO can be manipulated along the Ti row by the repulsive lateral force of“pushing”***,the joint combination of precise manipulation and the distance dependence of local contact potential difference allow us to resolve the interatomic dipole moment and charge state of CO at atomic ***,we found that the negatively charged CO with the dipole moment of negative pole down on the rutile TiO_(2)(110)*** results suppose that both the charge state as well as the on-surface dipole interaction are very effective for CO reaction on rutile TiO_(2)(110)surface.

In this paper, we are concerned with the uniqueness and the non-degeneracy of positive radial solutions for a class of semilinear elliptic equations. Using detailed ODE anal- ysis, we extend previous results to cases where nonlinear terms may have sublinear growth. As an application, we obtain the uniqueness and the non-degeneracy of ground states for modified SchrSdinger equations.
