Collective cell migration plays a critical role in physiological and pathological processes such as development,wound healing,and *** studies have demonstrated how various types of chemical,mechanical,and electrical cues dictate the collective migratory behaviors of *** an acoustic cue can be advantageous because of its noninvasiveness and biocompatibility,cell migration in response to acoustic stimulation remains poorly *** this study,we developed a device that is able to apply surface acoustic waves to a cell culture substrate and investigated the effect of propagating acoustic waves on collective cell *** migration distance estimated at various wave intensities revealed that unidirectional cell migration was enhanced at a critical wave intensity and that it was suppressed as the intensity was further *** increased migration might be attributable to cell orientation alignment along the direction of the propagating wave,as characterized by nucleus *** actin bundles indicative of a high traction force were observed in cells subjected to propagating acoustic waves at the critical *** device and technique can be useful for regulating cellular functions associated with cell migration.

To investigate the therapeutic potentials of na- tural sources, stepwise polarity fractions of Blumea balsamifera were tested for their ability to inhibit aldose reductase (AR) activity in rat lenses. Of these, the ethyl acetate (EtOAc) fraction exhibited a unique AR inhibitory activity (IC50 value, 0.11 μg/mL). Apigenin was identified from the active EtOAc fraction and exhibited high AR inhibitory activity (IC50 value, 4.03 μM). The content of apigenin was measured in B. balsamifera (0.47 mg/g) by HPLC/UV analysis. Our result suggests that B. balsamifera could be a useful natural source for the development of a novel AR inhibitory agent against diabetic complications.

Decision trees are mainly used to classify data and predict data classes. A spatial decision tree has been designed using Euclidean distance between objects for reflecting spatial data characteristic. Even though this method explains the distance of objects in spatial dimension, it fails to represent distributions of spatial data and their relationships. But distributions of spatial data and relationships with their neighborhoods are very important in real world. This paper proposes decision tree based on spatial entropy that represents distributions of spatial data with dispersion and dissimilarity. The rate of dispersion by dissimilarity presents how related distribution of spatial data and non-spatial attributes. The experiment evaluates the accuracy and building time of decision tree as compared to previous methods and it shows that the proposed method makes efficient and scalable classification for spatial decision support.

Background:Cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAFs)play an important role in the induction of *** study aimed to clarify the mechanism underlying CAF-mediated resistance to two tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKIs),sorafenib and lenvatinib,and to identify a novel therapeutic target for overcoming TKI resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods:We performed a systematic integrative analysis of publicly available gene expression datasets and whole-transcriptome sequencing data from 9 pairs of CAFs and para-cancer fibroblasts isolated from human HCC and para-tumor tissues,respectively,to identify key molecules that might induce resistance to *** then performed in vitro and in vivo experiments to validate selected targets and related *** associations of plasma secreted phosphoprotein 1(SPP1)expression levels before sorafenib/lenvatinib treatment with progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS)of 54 patients with advanced HCC were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression ***:Bioinformatic analysis identified CAF-derived SPP1 as a candidate molecule driving TKI ***1 inhibitors reversed CAF-induced TKI resistance in vitro and in ***-derived SPP1 activated rapidly accelerated fibrosarcoma(RAF)/mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(AKT)/mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)through the integrin-protein kinase C-alpha(PKCα)signaling pathway and promoted epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition(EMT).A high plasma SPP1 level before TKI treatment was identified as an independent predictor of poor PFS(P=0.026)and OS(P=0.047)in patients with advanced HCC after TKI ***:CAF-derived SPP1 enhances TKI resistance in HCC via bypass activation of oncogenic signals and EMT *** inhibition represents a promising therapeutic strategy against TKI resistance ***,plasma SPP1 level before TKI treatment represents a potential biomar

Purpose:This study was designed to determine whether a novel anti-melanogenic agent,PF3758309,has the potential to cause acute cutaneous irritation using a human skin equivalent model (HSEM).Methods:Human skin equivalent was constructed through incubation of normal human derived epidermal keratinocytes (HEKs)on collagen matrix insert with proliferation *** constructed human skin equivalent,the irritation potential of PF3758309 were investigated whether the viability of this agent-treated HESM is under 50%(irritant)or not (non-irritant)using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT)assay after applying the agent to the epidermal surface of the ***,the PF3758309-mediated anti-pigmentation effects were analyzed using Fontana-Masson staining in the ***:The integrity of the constructed HSEM was confirmed using immunohistochemical staining with differentiation markers of epidermis,and observed that Keratin 5,Keratin I and Involucrin were stained in basal,supra-basal and granular layers,*** vitro irritation assay showed that the mean viabilities of the PF3758309 was 83.6%,78.8%and 77.8%at the treatment doses of 0.2,0.5 and I mg,respectively;however,the mean viability of the positive control (5%sodium dodecyl sulfate)-treated HESM was 2.8%.Also,in vitro corrosion assay showed that the mean viabilities of the PF3758309 was 95.3%,95.0%and 94.2% at the treatment doses of 0.2,0.5 and 1 mg,***,using a Fontana-Masson staining assay,the melanin levels in the PF3758309-treated HSEM was significantly decreased compared with the levels in control ***: The anti-melanogenic agent,PF3758309,has no skin irritation potential under the conditions used in this study.

为更好地保护和管理部分哺乳类动物及其栖息地 ,自 2 0 0 1年 6月至 2 0 0 2年 3月在韩国白头大干山脉 8个被道路切割的林区内调查了道路两边一定距离内所见哺乳动物随距离增加而变化的丰富度。我们共调查了 10种哺乳类 (野猪、狍、獐、黄鼬、貉、豹猫、华南兔、松鼠、花鼠、鼹 )的各种痕迹 (粪便、足迹、食痕、卧迹及休息处 ) ,发现距道路近处两边的丰富度确有较大下降。这说明道路建设的确影响哺乳类的生境选择及其利用方式。所以今后在道路设计、管理及扩充等方面均需充分考虑和满足所有野生动物整个生命过程所需的空间要求。

目的　早产儿视网膜病 (ROP)是儿童视觉损害及致盲的重要原因之一。众多的研究表明低出生体重和低胎龄是ROP发病的主要危险因素。该文旨在探讨除出生体重和胎龄外 ,影响ROP发生的其他危险因素。方法　根据胎龄、出生体重进行配对 ,合并ROP的早产儿和未合并ROP的早产儿各 32例进行对照研究 ,对2 0种可能的危险因素进行Logistic回归性分析。结果　氧疗时间 (DOT)、最高动脉氧分压 (MaxPaO2 )、妊娠高血压(PIH)、生后 3d内最低 pH值 (MinpH)的比值比 (OR)值分别为 2 .76 4、2 .1 75、1 .935、2 .4 1 7(P <0 .0 1 )。建立的早产儿ROP危险因素主效应模型是Logit(P) =β0 +1 .2 6 5DOT +1 .0 34MaxPaO2 +0 .936PIH - 1 .2 73MinpH (χ2 =2 5 .6 34,P <0 .0 1 )。结论　氧疗时间长、高氧血症。

Development of Three Dimensional Automatic Body Fat Measurement Software from CT, and Its Validation and Evaluation

Abdominal obesity describes the accumulation of excessive fat in the abdomen. It is known that depending on its distribution, visceral obesity presents a greater danger to health than subcutaneous obesity. To properly prevent and treat visceral obesity, accurate evaluation methods are necessary, and hence quantitative VAT estimation is extremely important. CT scans are the most accurate method for estimating VAT, but it requires a great deal of time and effort, limiting its use in studying or evaluating obesity in patients. This paper proposed automatic measurement software that could quickly differentiate between and measure VAT and SAT. The method was verified using a total of 100 abdominal CT data values;this paper measured the SAT and VAT in the entire abdomen using the automatic measurement software. Additionally, through a comparative evaluation between the automated measurements and manual measurements such as BMI and waist circumference, clinical reliability and viability were validated and evaluated. Between automated measurements and manual measurements, the TAT (r = 0.995, p = 0.01), SAT (r = 0.987, p = 0.01) and VAT (r = 0.993, p = 0.01) showed high correlation. Using BMI as the main metric, the TAT for automated measurements (r = 0.674, p = 0.01) and the TAT for manual measurements (r = 0.703, p = 0.01) showed the strongest correlation. When using waist circumference, the VAT for automated measurements (r = 0.826, p = 0.01) and the VAT for manual measurements (r = 0.822, p = 0.01) showed the strongest correlation. With these results, the reliability and viability of the automatic measurement software were confirmed. The software is expected to help greatly in reducing the time and in providing objective data of VAT measurements from CT scans for clinical research.
