Abelmoschus is a genus of about fifteen species belongs to the family Malvaceae. The herb, popularly known as Lady’s Finger or Okra (in English) is a nutritional source used for both medicinal and culinary purposes. The plant is widely distributed from Africa to Asia, Southern Europe, and America. This comprehensive account provides a botanical description of the plant, its phytochemical constituents and pharmacological activities focusing anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant, anti-adhesive, gastro-protective, hepatoprotective, and immunomodulating actions. Most of the pharmacological effects can be explained by the constituents like tannins, terpenoids, flavonoids and glycosides present in all plant parts. However, future efforts should concentrate more on in vitro and in vivo studies and also on clinical trials in order to confirm traditional wisdom in the light of a rational phytotherapy. The present review is an overview of phytochemistry and ethnopharmacological studies that support many of the traditional?ethnomedicinal uses of the plant.

This work explores the potential of a triple combination of meropenem(MEM),a novel metallo-blactamase(MBL)inhibitor(indole-2-carboxylate 58(InC58)),and a serine-b-lactamase(SBL)inhibitor(avibactam(AVI))for broad-spectrum activity against carbapenemase-producing bacteria.A diverse panel comprising MBL-and SBL-producing strains was used for susceptibility testing of the triple combination using the agar dilution *** frequency of resistance(FoR)to MEM combined with InC58 was *** were sequenced and tested for cross resistance,fitness,and the stability of the resistance *** with the double combinations of MEM plus an SBL or MBL inhibitor,the triple combination extended the spectrum of activity to most of the isolates bearing SBLs(oxacillinase-48(OXA-48)and Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-2(KPC-2))and MBLs(New Delhi metallo-blactamases(NDMs)),although it was not effective against Verona integron-encoded metallo-blactamase(VIM)-carrying Pseudomonas aeruginosa(***)and OXA-23-carrying Acinetobacter baumannii(***).The FoR to MEM plus InC58 ranged from 2.22×10^(-7)to 1.13×10^(-6).The resistance correlated with mutations to ompC and comR,affecting porin C and copper permeability,*** mutants manifested a fitness cost,a decreased level of resistance during passage without antibiotic pressure,and cross resistance to another carbapenem(imipenem)and a b-lactamase inhibitor(taniborbactam).In conclusion,compared with the dual combinations,the triple combination of MEM with InC58 and AVI showed a much wider spectrum of activity against different carbapenemaseproducing bacteria,revealing a new strategy to combat b-lactamase-mediated antimicrobial resistance.

Eye and foot checks in patients with diabetes on haemodialysis: Are they done,and who does them?

AIM To determine if retinal and foot checks are carried out on patients with diabetes receiving *** Eighty-four patients with diabetes receiving haemodialysis were asked if they recalled having eye and foot screening in the last year, and if so, by whom was the check *** Seventy-seven(91.7%) patients recalled having an eye check in the preceding 12 mo. Of these, 52(67.5%) did so in an ophthalmology clinic, 17(22%) in retinal screening, three(3.9%) in an optician clinic. Three patients(3.9%) went to both ophthalmology and retinal screening, and two (2.6%) attended an ophthalmology and optician. Seventy (83.3%) patients recalled having a foot check in the preceding 12 mo. Of these, 33 (47.1%) were done by practice nurse, 14 (20%) by a diabetes nurse, 11 (15.7%) by a general practitioner, eight (11.4%) by a chiropodist, and four (5.7%) were each checked by renal nurse, diabetes consultant, junior doctor, or unknown person at a foot *** Most patients with diabetes on haemodialysis are able to recall having an eye check in the last year, although 8.3% could not. A significant proportion of patients could not recall having a foot check (16.7%) in the last year. This baseline audit suggests that an improvement in the rate of foot screening is important to achieve in patients with diabetes on haemodialysis in our unit.

It is well known that humans learn through a process of assimilation, incorporating new concepts into existing cognitive structures and forming revised representations in their mental lexicon. The study examines the application of the theories underlying Graesser＇s QUEST model to the high school classroom, to determine if the framing of new concepts into question-asking protocols and cognitive rehearsal regimes allows for increased and enhanced learning in high school students. Mandler＇s seminal work in Cognitive Psychology, Learning, and Memory are well known （1967） as is the work of one of his former graduate students, now Professor Emeritus, Dr. Arthur C Graesser from the University of Memphis （USA） who developed the QUEST model with his own graduate students, including Dr. Pardo, in the AI and Cognitive Science Laboratories at the University of Memphis. A pre-test/post-test quasi-experimental design was applied to two different levels of math and science classes, and overall performance was measured by how many questions they could answer before and after the classroom instruction.

Objective:To investigate in vitro antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of Korean blueberry(Vaccinium corymbosum L.).Methods:Total phenolic and flavonoid contents of the Korean blueberry water and ethanol extracts were determined before determining the potential of the extracts as *** activity of the extracts was determined by following some well established methods for free radical scavenging such as 2,2-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl hydrate,1,2,2-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonicacid),free radical induced DNA damage,superoxide dismutaselike and catalase assay ***,1-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-3,5-diphenylformazan and nitric oxide assay were performed to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of the ***:Total phenolic contents were found(115.0±3.0) and(4.2±3.0) mg GAE/100 g fresh mass for both extracts,respectively and flavonoid contents were(1 942.8±7.0) and(1 292.1±6.0) mg CE/100 g fresh mass for water and ethonal extracts,*** the extracts displayed significant scavenging activity of some radicals such as 2,2-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl hydrate(IC_(50) at 1.8 mg/mL and 2.05 mg/mL,respectively),l,2,2-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonicacid)(IC_(50) at1.5 mg/mL and 1.6 mg/mL,respectively) and nitrite(IC_(50) at 1.7 mg/mL and 1.5 mg/mL,respectively)*** extracts were found to prevent inflammation as well by reducing nitric oxide production and cytotoxicity in ***:The findings suggest that the fresh Korean blueberry could be used as a source of natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents.

An example of Sandakan power grid problem is presented in this paper. Sandakan is a suburb in east coast of Sabah state of Malaysia. Stability problem occurs due to the increase in load demand, lack of generation sources and inadequate supply. The tripping disturbances occur frequently in the network which is contributing to voltage instability. In this paper dynamics stability of 33 kV power grid as related to Sandakan network is analyzed and simulated. The analysis is completed by modelling the network data in Power System Simulation for Engineering (PSS/E) software and simulate the transient stability of generator, exciter and governor during a three phase fault occurs on a far and close distance from a bus, and determine the critical clearing time as well as swing curve of rotor angle. The output values of electrical power, machine speed, rotor angle and bus voltage are observed.

This paper presents a demonstration that uses group method of data handling (GMDH) model in time series forecasting. The GMDH model is used to forecast the rice yield data using three modified functions which were radial basis, sigmoid and tangent hyperbolic. It is compared to two individual forecasting artificial neural network (ANN) and polynomial function in GMDH. The comparison reveals that the recommended functions demonstrated the results to perform reasonably well and therefore, can be applied to real life prediction and modeling problems.

The purpose of this article is to describe the experience of a young, single, Latina parent whose child has died as a result of a rare, terminal genetic defect in the context of a long standing friendship. The article exantines the communication of an effective bereavement counselor as well as seeks to explore the systematic steps parents could employ to help their children with life limiting illnesses including treatment, palliative care, removing life support, hospice, and managing personal grief. Finally, special considerations were made to be sensitive to pertinent multicultural and spiritual or religious aspects that may be evident in the unique world of parents who have lost a child.
