Phytochemical analysis,antioxidant,acetylcholinesterase,andα-amylase inhibitors from Hippeastrum hybridum extract

OBJeCTIVe:To investigate the effects of Hippeastrum hybridum(HH)as a free radical scavenger,and an inhibitor of the two enzymes i-e alpha-amylase(α-amylase)and acetylcholinesterase(AChe).MeTHODS:In this study,HH plant was preliminary analyzed for phytochemical screening and then tested for its antioxidant,anti-α-amylase,and anti-AChe efficiency via standard ***:Phytochemical analysis shows the existence of different compounds;while Coumarins and quinones were *** total phenolic,flavonoid,and tannins content were found to be(78.52±0.69)mg GAe/g,(2.01±0.04)mg RUe/g,and(58.12±0.23)mg TAe/g of plant extract respectively.28.02%±0.02%alkaloid and 2.02%±0.05%saponins were present in the HH *** HH extract showed the anti-oxidant property with IC50(50%inhibition)of(151.01±0.13)(HH),(79.01±0.04)(Ascorbic acid)for ferric reducing,(91.48±0.13)(HH),(48.02±0.11)(Ascorbic acid)against Ammonium molybdenum,(156.02±0.31)(HH),(52.38±0.21)(Ascorbic acid)against DPPH,136.01±0.21(HH),52.02±0.31(Ascorbic acid)against H_(2)O_(2),and 154.12±0.03(HH),(40.05±0.15)(Ascorbic acid)μg/mL against ABTS *** analysis indicated that HH caused a competitive type of inhibition ofα-amylase(V_(max)remained constant and Km increases from 10.65 to84.37%)while Glucophage caused the un-competitive type of inhibition i-e both Km and V_(max)decreased from40.49 to 69.15%and 38.86 to 69.61%*** K_(i),(inhibition constant);K_(I),(dissociation constant),K_(m),(Michaelis-Menten constant),and IC50 were found to be62,364,68.1,and 38.08±0.22 for HH and 12,101.05,195,34.01±0.21 for ***,HH causes an anon-competitive type of inhibition of AChe i-e Km remains constant while V_(max)decreases from 60.5%to74.1%.The calculated K_(i),K_(I),K_(m),and IC50 were found to be 32,36.2,0.05,and 18.117±***:From the current results,it is concluded that HH extract contains bioactive compounds,and could be a good al.ernative to controlling oxidant

Pregnancy is a unique physiological state in which several changes *** of the most important aspects is the maternal immune system,which sets to tolerate the presence of thedeveloping fetus(a semi-allogeneic organism),while at the same time providing protection against pathogens.1 Pregnancy has long been known to affect the risk of certain cancers including breast cancer in the short term,gestational trophoblastic disease(GTD),cervical cancer,and melanoma.2,3 The reasons for the increased risk of these cancers during pregnancy are not fully understood,but several hypotheses have been proposed as the hormonal and immune system changes.

Modeling the Drying Kinetics of Pigeon Pea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millspaugh]

We set out to model the oven-drying kinetics of a legume known as pigeon pea, harvested in the Bouenza department in the south-west of the Republic of Congo. The drying kinetics of pigeon peas was carried out in an oven under experimental conditions using temperatures of: 50°C, 60°C and 70°C. Seven mathematical models were used to describe pigeon pea drying. During drying, water loss was faster and shorter at 70°C [10.446 g/25 g wet weight (wwb) for 320 min (5.3 h)] compared to 50°C [10.996 g/25 g wet weight (wwb) for 520 min (8.6 h)] and 60°C [10.616 g/25 g wet weight (wwb) for 420 min (7.0 h)] where it was slower and longer. With regard to modeling, and based on the principle of choosing the right model focusing on the high val.e of R2 and low val.es of χ2 and RMSe, two models were selected, the Midili model for temperatures of 50°C and 60°C and the Henderson and Pabis model modified for temperature of 70°C showed better results. The R2, χ2 and RMSe val.es calculated for pigeon pea are 0.99985, 3.93404e-5 and 0.00627;0.9997, 9.245e-5 and 0.00962;0.99996, 1.56332e-5 and 0.00395 respectively at 50°C, 60°C and 70°C.

Lymph node involvement is one of the most important prognostic indicators of carcinoma of the digestive *** the therapeutic impact of lymphadenectomy has not been proven and the number of retrieved nodes cannot be considered a measure of successful cancer surgery,an adequate lymph node count should be guaranteed to accurately assess the N-stage through the number of involved nodes,lymph node ratio,number of negative nodes,ratio of negative to positive nodes,and log odds,i.e.,the log of the ratio between the number of positive lymph nodes and the number of negative lymph nodes in digestive *** lymphadenectomy is not without complications,sentinel node mapping has been used as the rational procedure to select patients with early digestive carcinoma in whom nodal dissection may be omitted or a more limited nodal dissection may be ***,due to anatomical and technical issues,sentinel node mapping and nodal basin dissection are not yet the standard of care in early digestive ***,in light of the biological,prognostic and therapeutic impact of tumor budding and tumor deposits,two epithelial-mesenchymal transition-related phenomena that are involved in tumor progression,the role of staging and surgical procedures in digestive carcinomas could be redefined.

Does antecolic reconstruction decrease delayed gastric emptying after pancreatoduodenectomy?

Delayed gastric emptying(DGe) is a frequent complication after pylorus-preserving pancreatoduodenectomy(PpPD).Kawai and colleagues proposed pylorus-resecting pancreatoduodenectomy(PrPD) with antecolic gastrojejunal anastomosis to obviate DGe occurring after *** we debate the reported differences in the prevalence of DGe in antecolic and retrocolic gastro/duodeno-jejunostomies after PrPD and PpPD,*** concluded that the route of the gastro/duodeno-jejunal anastomosis with respect to the transverse colon;i.e.,antecolic route or retrocolic route,is not responsible for the differences in prevalence of DGe after pancreatoduodenectomy(PD) and that the impact of the reconstructive method on DGe is related mostly to the angulation or torsion of the gastro/*** report a prevalence of 8.9% grade A DGe and 1.1% grade C DGe in a series of 89 subtotal stomach-preserving PDs with Roux-en Y retrocolic reconstruction with anastomosis of the isolated Roux limb to the stomach and single Roux limb to both the pancreatic stump and hepatic *** anastomosis of the isolated first jejunal loop to the gastric remnant allows outflow of the gastric contents by gravity through a "straight route".

Impacts of wind erosion and seasonal changes on soil carbon dioxide emission in southwestern Iran

Wind erosion is one of the main drivers of soil loss in the world, which affects 20 million hectare land of Iran. Besides the soil loss, wind erosion contributes to carbon dioxide emission from the soil into the atmosphere. The objective of this study is to evaluate monthly and seasonal changes in carbon dioxide emission in four classes i.e., low, moderate, severe and very severe soil erosion and the interactions between air temperature and wind erosion in relation to carbon dioxide emission in the Bordekhun region, Boushehr Province, southwestern Iran. Wind erosion intensities were evaluated using IRIFR(Iran Research Institute of Forests and Ranges) model, in which four classes of soil erosion were identified. Afterward, we measured carbon dioxide emission on a monthly basis and for a period of one year using alkali traps in each class of soil erosion. Data on emission levels and erosion classes were analyzed as a factorial.experiment in a completely randomized design with twelve replications in each treatment. The highest rate of emission occurred in July(4.490 g CO_2/(m^2·d)) in severely eroded lands and the least in January(0.086 g CO_2/(m^2·d)) in low eroded lands. Therefore, it is resulted that increasing erosion intensity causes an increase in soil carbon dioxide emission rate at severe erosion intensity. Moreover, the maximum amount of carbon dioxide emission happened in summer and the minimum in winter. Soil carbon dioxide emission was just related to air temperature without any relationship with soil moisture content;since changes of soil moisture in the wet and dry seasons were not high enough to affect soil microorganisms and respiration in dry areas. In general, there are complex and multiple relationships between various factors associated with soil erosion and carbon dioxide emission. Global warming causes events that lead to more erosion, which in turn increases greenhouse gas emission, and rising greenhouse gases will cause more global warming. The

Cardioprotective and antioxidant effects of oleogum resin "Olibanum" from Boswellia carteri Birdw.(Bursearceae)

One of the leading causes of death worldwide is cardiovascular disease, hence searching for a cure is an important endeavor. The totally safe, edible, and inexpensive Boswellia plant exudate, known as olibanum or frankincense, is considered to possess diverse medicinal val.es in traditional medicine and from recent biological studies. Investigating the cardioprotective and antioxidant activities of olibanum from a Bo~＇wellia species, family Bursearaceae, namely Boswellia carteri Birdw. was the aim of this study. Cardioprotective activity was evaluated using a model of myocardial infarction induced by isoprenaline （ISO）, while antioxidant activity was tested adopting nitric oxide scavenging （NOS） and azino-bis-3-ethyl benzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid （ABTS） assays. The results revealed a mild cardioprotecfive effect and weak antioxidant activity.

The mechanisms that regulate neural stem cell(NSC)lineage progression and maintain NSCs within diffe rent domains of the adult neural stem cell niche,the subventricular zone are not well *** NSCs are arranged at the apical ventricular wall,while mitotically activated NSCs are found in the basal,vascular region of the subventricular ***,we found that ADAM 10(a disintegrin and metalloproteinase 10)is essential in NSC association with the ventricular wall,and via this adhesion to the apical domain,ADAM10 regulates the switch from quiescent and undiffe rentiated NSC to an actively prolife rative and differentiating cell *** of JAMC(junctional adhesion molecule C)by ADAM 10 increases Rap1 GAP *** molecular machinery promotes NSC transit from the apical to the basal compartment and subsequent lineage *** the molecular mechanisms responsible for regulating the proper positioning of NSCs within the subventricular zone niche and lineage progression of NSCs could provide new targets for drug development to enhance the regenerative prope rties of neural tissue.

The "meso" of the rectum and the "meso" of the pancreas: similar terms but distinct concepts in surgical oncology

A correspondence between the ＂meso＂ of the rectum and of the pancreas has recently been reported. Here we highlight the differences between mesorectum and mesopancreas. Based on anatomical findings from a series of 89 consecutive pancreaticoduodenectomies and 71 consecutive total mesorectal.excisions, we observed that in contrast to the mesorectum, the mesopancreas did not have well-defined anatomic boundaries and was continuous and connected through its components with the para-aortic area. In rectal cancer,tumor deposits and nodal involvement could be confined to the mesorectum（i.e., within the mesorectal fascia）, whereas in pancreatic carcinoma, tumor deposits and nodal metastases occurred in the boundless mesopancreatic area. Total mesorectal.excision was made en bloc with the rectum by dissecting along the mesorectal fascia; this was not the case for mesopancreatic excision since anatomical demarcation of the mesopancreas did not exist. Moreover, the growth pattern of pancreatic cancer showed greater dispersion, which was more prominent at the invasive front of the tumor and could potentially affect the status of the resection margin. These findings indicate that the mesorectum and mesopancreas are completely distinct from the pathological, surgical, and oncological standpoints.

Neuroprotection by misoprostol against rotenone-induced neurotoxicity in rat brain

Objective: To investigate the effect of the prostaglandin e1 analogue misoprostol on oxidative stress and neurodegeration caused by subcutaneous rotenone administration in rats. Methods:Rotenone was administered in a dose of 1.5 mg/kg every other day for 2 weeks. Starting from the 1 st day of rotenone injection, rats were subcutaneously treated with misoprostol at doses of10, 100 or 1 000 μg/kg. Rats were evaluated for brain lipid peroxidation(malondial.ehyde:MDA), reduced glutathione(GSH), nitric oxide(NO) levels, and paraoxonase-1(PON-1) *** concentrations of the anti-apoptotic protein B cell/lymphoma-2(Bcl-2) were determined in the striatum. Histopathologic examination and the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS) in the cerebral cortex and striatum were also performed. Results: Compared with the vehicle-treated group, rotenone caused a significant increase in brain lipid proxidation(MDA)by 61%(Ped by an increase in NO by 73.1%(Pecrease in GSH concentration by 29.4%(Pecreased by63.0%(Pal Bcl-2 significantly decreased by 27.9%(Pespect to the corresponding control val.e. Brain sections from rotenone treated rats showed extensive dark pyknotic and apoptotic nuclei in neurons, shrunken cytoplasm and perineuronal *** also caused pronounced expression of iNOS in the cerebral cortex and *** with misoprostol at doses of 100 and 1 000 μg/kg resulted in decreased brain MDA(by 16.5%-23.0%)(Pevels(by 37.1%-40.7%)(Peased GSH concentrations(by 18.8%-30.1%)(Peased by80.0%-114.8%(Pespectively.
