This work reports the use of defect engineering and carbon supporting to achieve metal-doped phosphides with high activities and stabilities for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)in alkaline ***,the nitrogen-doped carbon nanofiber-supported Ni-doped CoP_(3) with rich P defects(Pv·)on the carbon cloth(p-NiCoP/NCFs@CC)is synthesized through a plasma-assisted phosphorization *** p-NiCoP/NCFs@CC is an efficient and stable catalyst for the HER and the *** only needs overpotentials of 107 and 306 mV to drive 100 mA cm^(-2) for the HER and the OER,*** catalytic activities are higher than those of other catalysts reported *** high activities of the p-NiCoP/NCFs@CC mainly arise from its peculiar structural *** density functional theory calculation indicates that the Pv·richness,the Ni doping,and the carbon supporting can optimize the adsorption of the H atoms at the catalyst surface and promote the strong electronic couplings between the carbon nanofiber-supported p-NiCoP with the surface oxide layer formed during the OER *** gives the p-NiCoP/NCFs@CC with the high activities for the HER and the *** used in alkaline water electrolyzers,the p-NiCoP/NCFs@CC shows the superior activity and excellent stability for overall water splitting.

Sperm acrosin activity may be a useful factor in choosing between ICSI and IVF for infertile male patients

The clinical applications of acrosin activity are *** analyzed 61578 male partners in infertile couples who visited the outpatient department of the Reproductive and Genetic Hospital of CITIC-Xiangya(Changsha,China)between August 2014 and December 2019 to determine the reference ranges and thresholds for acrosin activity in infertile Chinese men;to determine whether correlations exist between acrosin activity and age,sperm concentration,sperm morphology,or sperm motility;and to evaluate whether acrosin activity could serve as an effective prognostic indicator for choosing between in vitro fertilization(IvF)and intracytoplasmic sperm injection(icsl)in the *** cut-off value for the normal reference range of acrosin activity for male partners in infertile couples was 24.78μlU per 106 *** was no significant association between acrosin activity and age,sperm concentration,semen volume,total sperm count,progressive motility,or total motile spermatozoa.A weak positive correlation was found between acrosin activity and normal sperm *** was a statistically significant difference in abnormal acrosome morphology between the group with high acrosin activity(>24.78μlU per 106 sperm)and the group with low acrosin activity(<24.78μlU per 106 sperm).The group with a low IVF fertilization rate had a high index of abnormal acrosomal morphology at 21.2%,while the group with a high IVF fertilization rate had a low index of 0.2%.At an acrosin activity of<24.78μlU per 10 sperm,in one cycle of the same patient,the fertilization rate,normal fertilization rate,and good-quality embryo rate for Icsl were significantly higher than those for ***,the most promising application of acrosin activity could be in the selection of IcsI over IVF for infertile male patients with complete fertilization failure or a low fertilization rate.

In the vanguard of biomedical innovation,regenerative medicine emerges as a transformative paradigm,concentrating its efforts on rectifying tissue deficits and functional aberrations in patients through the strategic augmentation of endogenous cellular *** to this approach is nucleic acid therapy,which offers a novel pathway for tissue regeneration by modulating key signaling *** one of the most effective ways to regulate cell function,nucleic acids are crucial for various tissue regeneration;however,their in vivo therapeutic applications face substantial challenges,including nuclease degradation,cell membrane impermeability,and targeted intracellular ***-based gene delivery systems offer a solution for stable and localized drug delivery by enabling the controlled overexpression of therapeutic nucleic acids,producing functional regulatory *** review presents examples of nucleic acid applications in regenerative medicine,highlighting the synergy between nucleic acids and biomaterial *** underlines the importance of nucleic acid delivery techniques,the choice of therapeutic nucleic acids,and biomaterials for advancing tissue *** latest developments in designing nucleic acid biomaterial-based delivery vehicles are explored,the mechanism of nucleic acids in tissue regeneration is elucidated,and their limitations are discussed while considering future directions for the clinical translation of nucleic acid-based therapeutics.

Human pluripotent stem cell(hPSC)-derived kidney organoids share similarities with the fetal ***,the current hPSC-derived kidney organoids have some limitations,including the inability to perform nephrogenesis and lack of a corticomedullary definition,uniform vascular system,and coordinated exit path-way for urinary ***,further studies are required to produce hPSC-derived kidney organoids that accurately mimic human kidneys to facilitate research on kidney development,regeneration,disease modeling,and drug *** this review,we discussed recent advances in the generation of hPSC-derived kidney organoids,how these organoids contribute to the understanding of human kidney development and research in disease ***,the limitations,future research focus,and applications of hPSC-derived kidney organoids were highlighted.

Thermodynamic performance of a cryogenic energy storage system based on natural gas liquefaction

Cryogenic energy storage(CES)is a viable method for grid-scale electrical energy *** the high energy density and mature application of liquefied natural gas(LNG),we proposed an LNG cryogenic energy storage(LNGES)system.A steady-state process model of the LNGES system was established using Aspen *** effects of the natural gas composition and key operating parameters such as the charging pressure,discharging pressure,throttling temperature,and liquid storage pressure on the system performance were investigated.A multi-parameter genetic algorithm model built using the MATLAB software was used to optimize the LNGES system to optimize the round-trip efficiency(RTE).Then,an exergy analysis of the optimal configuration was *** results suggested that the LNGES system could achieve optimal RTE and exergy efficiency values of 60.14%and 71.64%,*** destruction mainly occurred during the compression,throttling,expansion,and heat *** proposed LNGES system could be a promising candidate for the large-scale application of CES technology in power grids and gas networks.

The infection kinetics and transmission potential of two Guaico Culex viruses in Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes

Guaico Culex virus(GCXV)is a newly identified segmented Jingmenvirus from Culex *** in Central and South *** genome of GCXV is composed of four or five single-stranded positive Rna ***,the infection kinetics and transmission capability of GCXV in mosquitoes remain *** this study,we used reverse genetics to rescue two GCXVs(4S and 5S)that contained four and five Rna segments,respectively,in C6/36 *** in vitro characterization revealed that the two GCXVs exhibited comparable replication kinetics,protein expression and viral ***,GCXV Rnas were detected in the bodies,salivary glands,midguts and ovaries of Culex quinquefasciatus at 4–10 days after oral *** addition,two GCXVs can colonize *** eggs,resulting in positive rates of 15%–35%for the second gonotrophic *** conclusion,our results demonstrated that GCXVs with four or five Rna segments can be detected in *** eggs during the first and second gonotrophic cycles after oral infection.

Successful management of severe hypoglycemia induced by total parenteral nutrition in patients with hepatocellular injury: Three cases reports

BACKGROUND Glucose imbalance is common in total parenteral nutrition(TPN).Hypoglycemia seems to be less frequent than hyperglycemia,but it influences the clinical outcome to a greater ***,it should be effectively prevented and ***,there is no relevant report on how to treat hypoglycemia caused by TPN in patients with liver cell *** SUMMARY We present three patients with liver cell injury who developed severe hypo-glycemia during or after TPN *** causes of severe hypoglycemia and glucose-raising strategies were *** to the physiological charac-teristics of the hepatocellular injury,the ratio of nutrition components prescribed in TPN was appropriately adjusted for the three *** simultaneously reduced the dose of insulin and fat emulsion,and increased the dose of glucose in *** blood glucose level was restored to normal range and clinical symptoms were *** When hypoglycemia occurs during or after TPN in patients with hepatocellular injury,physicians need to simultaneously reduce insulin and fat emulsion,and increase glucose,and correct severe hypoglycemia in time to reduce its adverse consequences.

PEG400-mediated nanocarriers improve the delivery and therapeutic efficiency of mRna tumor vaccines

Dendritic cell(DC)-targeted delivery of mRna is a prominent method to boost the efficacy of mRna tumor *** targeting ligands are often modified on nanocarriers by polyethylene glycol(PEG)linker in mRna delivery *** the PEG linker length influences the targeting delivery efficiency of mRna nanocarrier in vivo remains ***,we designed and constructed DC-targeted mRna delivery systems modified by mannose via different PEG linker lengths(100/400/1000/2000)(MPn-LPX).The top candidate MP_(400)-LPX(the linker was PEG400)showed the optimal mRna expression and antigen presentation owing to the highly efficient uptake by ***,MP_(400)-LPX could better inhibited tumor growth and extended survival in the E.G7-OVA lymphoma and TC-1 cervical tumor mouse ***,these results demonstrated that PEG400 was the optimal linker for the PEGylated DC-targeted mRna *** findings provided a new platform for the rational design of targeted mRna nanovaccines with shorter-length PEG.
