气候变暖促进了植物的春季物候,打破了气候与植物生长之间原有的平衡。随着极端气候事件出现更加频繁,气候与植物生长之间的不匹配性会影响植物的生存、生长和繁殖。为了防止生长季节在细胞内结冰,植物会采用过冷却策略。然而,气候事件的严重程度和物候期可能会影响植物在霜冻事件后的恢复。本研究通过实验探究了4种不同严重程度的极端霜冻事件如何影响青藏高原上两种优势物种钉柱委陵菜(Potentilla saundersiana,仲夏开花)和小龙胆(Gentiana parvula,夏末开花)的过冷却点和枯黄期。探讨了物候期如何影响钉柱委陵菜对霜冻事件的反应。结果发现,两个物种在遭受霜冻损害时都表现出过冷现象。钉柱委陵菜的平均过冷却点为−6.9℃,并受最低温度、持续时间和物候期的影响,而小龙胆的平均过冷却点为−4.8℃,最低温度和持续时间对其过冷却点影响不显著。此外,两个物种在最低温度(−10℃)处理持续4小时后均快速枯黄。本研究首次探索并定量了青藏高原高寒植物的过冷却点。鉴于高寒植物遭遇霜冻事件的概率不断增加,上述结果对了解高寒植物的生长和生存如何应对极端气候的不利影响具有重要意义。

Introduction: Violence is a major problem in today’s workplace. It affects workers in all sectors of activity. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with violence among primary and secondary school staff in Ouagadougou. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study that took place from April 22, 2020 to February 18, 2021 in primary and secondary schools in Ouagadougou. It focused on the educational staff of these establishments. Results: A total of 362 agents took part in the study. The average age of participants was 36.5 ± 6.89 years. The sex ratio was 1.62 men to one woman. The majority of workers were teachers, with 300 participants (82.87%). The average job tenure was 7 years ± 6.91 years. With regard to violence in the workplace, 87 workers were victims, representing a prevalence of 24.03%. Of these workers, 59 (67.81%) were men and 36 (41.38%) had less than six years’ experience. Acts of violence were predominantly pushing observed in 15 workers (50%), while shouting and aggressive tone dominated psychological violence and concerned 54 cases (36.24%). On univariate analysis, the factors associated with violence were age (p = 0.046) and type of establishment (p = 0.012). On multivariate analysis, only the nature of the establishment was the only factor associated with the occurrence of violence among teaching staff (OR = 2.3690, p = 0.0213). Conclusion: The prevalence of violence is high in these educational establishments. Age and type of establishment are factors associated with its occurrence. It is therefore necessary to develop an effective strategy for preventing this risk in the workplace.

Introduction: Testicular cancer accounts for 5% of urological tumors, predominantly affecting young men. The aim of our study was to report the diagnostic and evolutionary aspects of testicular cancer cases treated in our center. Patients and Methods: A retrospective study conducted over a 15-year period involving 12 patients treated for testicular cancer at the University Hospital of Brazzaville. Results: The median age was 31 years (range 11 to 49 years), with a median consultation delay of 10.6 months (range 3 to 27 months). Scrotal mass was the most common reason for consultation. Cancer was bilateral in two patients. Two patients were admitted with metastatic disease. Histopathological examination favored germ cell tumors in 7 cases, two cases of non-Hodgkin’s malignant lymphoma, and one case of epididymo-testicular adenocarcinoma. Adjuvant chemotherapy resulted in complete remission in patients with germ cell tumors. However, neoadjuvant chemotherapy was not effective in patients admitted with advanced-stage disease. Conclusion: Testicular cancer is a rare condition that is curable in the majority of cases, but its management is often complicated in our setting due to delayed diagnosis caused by taboos surrounding genital organ pathologies.

aim： To examine the psychological impact of chronic hepatitis C （CHC） diagnosis in a large cohort of CHC patients as compared with other stressful life events and chronic diseases carrying a risk of life-threatening complications. METHODS： One hundred and eighty-five outpatients with compensated CHC were asked to self-grade, using a 100-mm visual analogue scale （VAS）, the degree of stress caused by the learning of CHC diagnosis and the perceived severity of their disease. Diagnosis-related stress was compared to four other stressful life events and perceived CHC severity was compared to four other common chronic diseases. RESULTS： Learning of CHC diagnosis was considered a major stressful event （mean ± SD scores： 72±25）, significantly less than death of a loved-one （89±13, P〈0.0001） and divorce （78 ± 23, P〈0.007）, but more than job dismissal （68 ± 30, P〈 0.04） and home removal （26±24, P〈 0.0001）. CHC was considered a severe disease （74± 19）, after AIDS （94±08, P〈 0.001） and cancer （91± 11, P〈 0.001）, but before diabetes （66±23, P〈0.001） and hypertension （62±20, P〈0.001）. Perceived CHC severity was not related to the actual severity of liver disease, assessed according to Metavir fibrosis score. In multivariate analysis, diagnosisrelated stress was related to perceived disease severity （P〈0.001）, trait anxiety （P〈 0.001） and infection through blood transfusion （P〈 0.001）. CONCLUSION： Our results show the considerable psychological and emotional burden that a diagnosis of CHC represents, even in the absence of significant liver disease. They should be taken into account when announcing a diagnosis of CHC in order to reduce its negative effects.

Therapeutic plasma concentrations of EFV （efavirenz） are between 1,000 ng/mL and 4,000 ng/mL. Concentrations below 1000 ng/mL are associated with higher risk of treatment failure, and concentrations above 4,000 ng/mL are associated with toxicity. The aim of the study was to appreciate EFV plasmas concentrations profile and the association between plasma levels and various characteristics in Beninese patients treated by a 600 mg standard daily-dose. Blood samples were collected and EFV plasma levels were measured by liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry detection in HIV-infected patients receiving EFV in combination with other antiretroviral drugs for at least 14 days. Adverse effects occurring during treatment were collected through a questionnaire. An over-exposure to EFV among Beninese HIV patients were observed, with 46.4% of patients presenting EFV concentration above 4,000 ng/mL, although adverse effects were tolerated indicating that antiretroviral treatment is safe. The measurement of plasma concentration at the steady-state could contribute to early detection of treatment failure and adapt treatment in subjects presenting serious adverse effects within context of therapeutic drug monitoring.

Traditional environmental control methods for poultry housing which rely solely on environmental factors fall short in meeting thermal and physiological needs of the *** methods are needed that factor in the physiological needs and responses of the animals in order to maximize well-being of the animals and minimize heat *** body temperature(DBT)has been shown in the literature to be a strong indicator of heat stress,therefore studies are needed that help us gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between this variable and environmental *** aim of this study was to identify the order of the dynamic response of poultry DBT to large step changes in ambient temperature(AT).Temperature steps had to be big enough to take the chickens out of their homeothermic zone.A total of 46 DBT/AT data sets with 23 upward AT steps and 23 downward AT steps were obtained using a biotelemetry system,and involving three *** responses of individual chickens to step changes in AT were found to have a 0.88 average Pearson correlation suggesting consistency in chickens’responses to the same stimuli(pconstant of 1.6 h,and the curve fitting method was used to validate this *** was a 0.88 average correlation between DBT model and measured data(p<0.0005).These results indicate statistical significance in the data used and the model derived from *** conclusion,it is reasonable to assume that the dynamic response of poultry DBT to large step changes in ambient temperature follows a first order *** further studies are needed to more fully derive the model,this study provided a stepping-stone towards gaining a better understanding of the relationship between DBT and AT,therefore taking us one step closer towards making optimal management and risk assessment decisions that are based on physiological needs of the c

Factors associated with stroke direct cost in francophone West Africa, Benin example

Background: In sub-Saharan Africa, stroke constitutes a public health issue. Few studies were conducted to assess the cost involved in its treatment. Objective: To determine the factors involved in direct cost of stroke in Cotonou-Benin. Method: It consists in a transversal and prospective research of economic type with analytical and descriptive aim. It was conducted from 20thFebruary 2011 to 30thSeptember 2011. The research dealt with 122 stroke patients. With regard to the economic approach, bottom-up was the data collection technique which was adopted. Cost was estimated not only based on the patient himself/herself but considering societal aspect. Cost estimation period was hospitalization period. Data analysis was conducted via software such as Epi info and SPSS. Results: Overall expenses in terms of direct cost varied from $144.9 to $9393.9;average expenses were $1030.1 ± $101.7. Patients aged 50 and above had higher stroke hospitalization cost ($1277.4) than those aged below 50 ($857.4) p = 0.001;male patients made more expenses than females (FCFA 1157.5 against $831.8) p = 0.01;direct cost of stroke was increased in proportion to neurological deficit (score NIHSS) p = 0.043. This cost was higher in cases of hemorrhagic stroke than ischemic stroke (FCFA $1375 against $1098) p = 0.002. Stroke direct cost was also increased in proportion to severance of disability level of patients. Stroke type (hemorrhagic) and RANKIN score were firmly correlated to stroke hospitalization cost. Conclusion: Stroke is very expensive for patientsin Benin and they constitute a burden for both patients and their family. There is a great need to increase awareness regarding risk factor control in order to reduce the cost involved in treating this malady.

aim: To determine the prevalence of HBs antigen in secondary schools, to appreciate the vaccination coverage of viral hepatitis B and to propose a vaccine catch-up strategy. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study conducted over a two-month period from April 24 to June 24, 2006 among students aged 10 - 15, in two schools (one public and the other private) of the city of Abidjan selected at random. The assay of serum markers of viral hepatitis B of the samples collected after 5 ml peripheral venous sampling was carried out in the viral serology and bacteriology unit of the Pasteur institute of Ivory Coast using the ELISA technique (Enzyme-Linked-Immunosorbant-Assay). The ELISA technique is an enzyme immunoassay technique that can detect an antigen or an antibody by highlighting the antigen-antibody reaction. Results: Of the 282 students who participated in our study, 5.3% of students (n = 15) were infected with the hepatitis B virus. The majority of students (79.1%, n = 223) did not have no contact with the hepatitis B virus. Only 7.8% (n = 22) of the students were vaccinated against viral hepatitis B. Conclusion: The low immunization coverage and the high prevalence of seronegative students reflect the need for a vaccine catch-up policy for adolescents born before the introduction of vaccination against the viral hepatitis B virus in the Expanded Program on Immunization.

The characteristics of viral hepatitis B and D co-infection are poorly documented in Chad. The aim of our study was to determine the prevalence of HBV/HDV co-infection and the characteristics of this co-infection. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study including all patients with chronic HBsAg carriers referred in our department from January 2014 to December 2018. Non-inclusion criteria were: absence of anti-HDV testing, presence of anti-viral hepatitis C or Human Immunodeficiency Virus antibodies or excessive alcohol consumption. The variables studied were age, sex, blood transaminase level, HBV DNA level, HDV RNA level, and liver fibrosis and activity score (Actitest Fibrotest). The prevalence of HDV and the characteristics of HDV/HBV co-infection were determined. Results: During the study period, 403 patients were seen in these two hospitals for chronic HBsAg carriage. Of these, 378 (75%) had performed the anti HDV assay. Anti-HDV antibodies were positive in 53 patients (14%). In multivariate analysis, HBV/HDV co-infected patients were less frequently HBeAg positive (5.4% vs. 28.1%;p = 0.0001), older (35 years vs. 32 years;p = 0.001), and more frequently had significant necrotic-inflammatory activity (3.9% vs. 3.2%;p = 0.031) compared with mono infected patients. Neither gender (76.9% male vs. 77.4% male;p = ns), nor viral load (median 530 IU/ml vs. 195 IU/ml;p = ns), nor significant liver fibrosis (35.1% vs. 47.1%;p = ns), nor transaminases (median 26 vs. 32 IU/ml) were different with mono infected patients. Conclusion: VHD is common in Chad. It is associated with increased hepatic necrotic-inflammatory activity.
