BACKGROUnD The use of uncemented cups during total hip arthroplasty(THA)has gained popularity in recent *** Robert Mathys(RM)pressfit cup,an uncemented monoblock implant is expected to preserve bone density due to its composition and external surface,while reducing backside wear with its monoblock *** factors should lead to a high survival rate of the *** To evaluate the mid-term survival and functional outcome of the RM Pressfit cup in a large study *** Between 2011 and 2020,we included 1324 patients receiving a primary THA using the RM pressfit *** clinical follow-up was performed at 2 years postoperatively with the Dutch arthroplasty register used to assess implant status *** for acetabular failure and reason for revision were reported to evaluate implant survival,while the hip disability and osteoarthritis outcome score(HOOS)scores were used to assess functional *** The mean age at surgery was 64.9 *** mean follow-up was 4.6 *** the 1324 THAs performed,13 needed cup revisions within 5 years after index THA:5 due to aseptic loosening,6 due to infection,2 due to dislocation and 2 due to other *** resulted in a 5-year cup survival of 98.8%(95%CI:98.1-99.5).nine of the cup revisions occurred within the first year after index *** scores increased significantly in all domains during the first year and levelled out during the second *** In the present study,the RM pressfit cup demonstrated excellent clinical outcomes at mid-term follow-up;however,future studies are needed to assess the long-term outcomes of this acetabular implant.

The emergence of van der Waals(vdW)materials resulted in the discovery of their high optical,mechanical,and electronic anisotropic properties,immediately enabling countless novel phenomena and *** success inspired an intensive search for the highest possible anisotropic properties among vdW ***,the identification of the most promising among the huge family of vdW materials is a challenging quest requiring innovative ***,we suggest an easy-to-use method for such a survey based on the crystallographic geometrical perspective of vdW materials followed by their optical *** our approach,we found As2S3 as a highly anisotropic vdW *** demonstrates high in-plane optical anisotropy that is~20%larger than for rutile and over two times as large as calcite,high refractive index,and transparency in the visible range,overcoming the century-long record set by *** these benefits,As2S3 opens a pathway towards nextgeneration nanophotonics as demonstrated by an ultrathin true zero-order quarter-wave plate that combines classical and the Fabry–Pérot optical phase ***,our approach provides an effective and easy-to-use method to find vdW materials with the utmost anisotropic properties.

In Vitro assessment of the nutritive value of expanded soybean meal for dairy cattle

Little information is available about the nutritive value of expanded soybean meal, which is produced by expansion of soybeans prior to solvent extraction of the oil. During processing, expanded soybean meal is subjected to additional heat, which might increase the concentration of ruminally undegraded protein. Processing of soybeans with heat during oil extraction could affect lysine availability by increasing ruminally undegraded protein or by impairing intestinal digestion. Our objective was to compare solvent and expanded soybeans with regard to chemical composition and nutritive value for dairy cattle. Samples of expanded soybean meal （n = 14） and solventextracted soybean meal （n = 5） were obtained from People＇s Republic of China to study effects of the expansion process on nutritive value for dairy cattle. Solvent-extracted soybean meal （n = 2） and mechanically extracted （heated） soybean meal （n = 2） from the United States served as references for comparison. Samples were analyzed for crude fat, long-chain fatty acids, crude protein, amino acids, chemically available lysine, in situ ruminal protein degradation, and in vitro intestinal digestibility. no differences were found between solvent-extracted soybean meals from China and expanded soybean meals from China for crude fat, crude protein, amino acids, or chemically available lysine. In situ disappearance of nitrogen, ruminally undegraded protein content, and in vitro intestinal digestion of the ruminally undegraded protein were generally similar between solvent-extracted soybean meals made in China and expanded soybean meals made in China; variation among soybean meals was small. Results indicate that the additional heat from the expansion process was not great enough to affect the nutritive value of soybean meal protein for ruminants. This work deals with the active control of the vibrations of mechanical structures incorporating magnetorheological elastomer. The damping coefficient and shear modulus of the elastomer increase when exposed to a magnetic field. Compared with the vibration control where the elastomer is permanently exposed to a magnetic field, the control of this process through time reduces vibrations more effectively. The experimental study for the vibrations of a sandwich beam filled with an elastomer is conducted, followed by a numerical study using the Abaqus code. The vibration damping is found to be dependent on the loading rate of micro-size ferromagnetic particles in the elastomer.

BACKGROUnD Current literature shows no clear answer on the question how to manage the capsule after hip *** patient reported outcome measures there seems to be no difference between capsular repair or unrepaired *** To evaluate and compare the integrity of the hip capsule measured on a magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)scan after capsular repair or unrepaired *** A case series study was performed;a random sample of patients included in a trial comparing capsular repair vs unrepaired capsulotomy had a postoperative MRI *** presence of a capsular defect and gap size were independently evaluated on *** A total of 28 patients(29 hips)were *** demographics were comparable between treatment *** were 2 capsular defects in the capsular repair group and 7 capsular defects in the unrepaired capsulotomy group(P=0.13).In the group of patients with a defect,median gap sizes at the acetabular side were 5.9 mm(range:2.7-9.0)in the repaired and 8.0 mm(range:4.5-18.0)in the unrepaired group(P=0.462).At the muscular side gap sizes were 6.6 mm(range:4.1-9.0)in the repaired group and 11.5 mm(range:3.0-18.0)in the unrepaired group(P=0.857).The calculated Odds ratio(OR)for having a capsular defect with an increasing lateral center-edge(CE)angle was 1.12(P=0.06).The OR for having a capsular defect is lower in the group of patients that underwent a labral repair with an OR of 0.1(P=0.05).COnCLUSIOn There is no significant difference in capsular defects between capsular repair or unrepaired *** clinical characteristics our case series shows that a larger CE angle increases the likelihood of a capsular defect and the presence of a labral repair decreases the likelihood of a capsular defect.
