GJB2 mutation spectrum in Inner Mongolia and its comparison with other Asian populations

Mutations in the GJB2 gene are the most frequently found mutations in patients with nonsyndromic hearing impairment. However, the mutation spectrum and prevalence of mutations vary among different ethnic groups. Every year, 30, 000 babies are born with congenital hearing impairment in china. In order to provide appropriate genetic testing and counseling to the family, we investigated the molecular etiology of nonsyndromic deafness in 135 unrelated school children attending chifeng Municipal Special Education School in Inner Mongolia, china. The coding exon of the GJB2 gene was PcR amplified and sequenced. In addition, the 12S rRnA gene and tRnAser(Ucn) of mitochondrial genome were screened for mutations responsible for hearing impairment. Sixty four GJB2 mutant alleles, including 60 confirmed pathogenic alleles and 4 unclassified variants, were identified in 31.1% (42/135) of the subjects. Twenty two subjects carried two pathogenic mutations and 20 subjects carried one mutant allele, including one subject with one autosomal dominant mutation. The 235delc was the most common mutation accounting for 65.6%(42/64) GJB2 mutant alleles. When compared to other Asian populations, our subject cohort had higher frequency of 235delc mutation than the Japanese population. The GJB2 mutant alleles account for 23.7% (64/270) of all chromosomes responsible for nonsyndromic hearing impairment. Testing of the 4 most prevalent deleterious frame shift mutations(235delc, 29900delAT, 17691del16, and 56005ins46) in this cohort detected 90% of all GJB2 mutant alleles. These results demonstrate that effective genetic testing of the GJB2 gene for patients and families with nonsyndromic hearing impairment is possible in the chinese population. Afteruse development of former landfll sites in Hong Kong

Landfll is one of the major methods in disposing of municipal solid waste(MSW) in Hong Kong. There are now 13 closed landfll sites in Hong Kong, and a restoration program has been launched since 1999 to transform the closed landfll sites back into recreational area. The MSW underneath these closed landfll sites will biodegrade slowly and gradually, releasing toxic gases and leachate. As there have only been a few afteruse development ever completed in Hong Kong, this paper describes the consideration in planning and design of two former landfll sites in Hong Kong–ngau chi Wan(ncW) and Jordan Valley(JV) landflls, in particular a discussion on the MSW settlement. Various models in predicting the longterm MSW settlement have been available. This paper reviews the applicability of these models to predict MSW settlement. However, as the predicted settlements can be signifcantly in error, they need sitespecifc calibration and validation. This paper therefore presents the settlement monitoring data in these former landfll sites over the last 30 years, and suggests modifying the Bjarngard and Edgers’ method for estimating this long-term settlement as well as the effect of additional surcharge due to afteruse development. Based on the regression of these data, compression indices cce and c at different stages of the settlement in the modifed method have been calibrated and validated.

Dibaryon Signals in nn Scattering Data and Further Measurement at cOSY,LEPS and cSR

The nΔ and ΔΔ dibaryon resonances are studied by calculating the nn scattering phase shifts with explicitly coupling these dibaryon channels in a multi-channel coupling calculation with two quark models. These quark models,the chiral quark model and quark delocalization color screening model,describe the nn S-,D-wave phase shifts below the π production threshold quantitatively well. Both quark models predict the 1D2 resonance discovered in nn partial wave phase shift analysis and the J=1 or 3 isoscalar resonance recently reported by cELSIUS-WASA collaboration are nΔ5S2 and ΔΔ7S3 resonance,respectively. Further measurements at cOSY,LEPS and Lanzhou cooling Storage Ring(cSR) to check the ΔΔ resonance are discussed.

A generic procedure for determining atomic LS spectral terms and their LS eigenfunctions

This paper develops a Fortran code which is capable to construct the simplest LS eigenfunctions for desired symmetry and determine all permitted atomic LS spectral terms under a given orbital occupancy by implementing and extending the Schaefer and Harris method. Examples （in some cases the most complete set to date） of multiple spectroscopic terms of LS coupling of atomic states for both non-equivalent and equivalent electronic configurations are given. It also corrects a few observed errors from the recent literature.

numerical analysis of a magnetohydrodynamic duct flow with flow channel insert under a non-uniform magnetic field

This study performs a numerical analysis of three-dimensional liquid metal(LM) magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) flows in a square duct with an FcI in a non-uniform magnetic field. The current study predicts detailed information on flow velocity, Lorentz force, pressure, current and electric potential of MHD duct flows for different Hartmann numbers. Also, the effect of the electric conductivity of FcI on the pressure drop along the main flow direction in a non-uniform magnetic field is examined. The present study investigates the features of LM MHD flows in consideration of the interdependency among the flow variables.

Parameters selection in gene selection using Gaussian kernel support vector machines by genetic algorithm

In microarray-based cancer classification, gene selection is an important issue owing to the large number of variables and small number of samples as well as its non-linearity. It is difficult to get satisfying results by using conventional linear sta- tistical methods. Recursive feature elimination based on support vector machine (SVM RFE) is an effective algorithm for gene selection and cancer classification, which are integrated into a consistent framework. In this paper, we propose a new method to select parameters of the aforementioned algorithm implemented with Gaussian kernel SVMs as better alternatives to the common practice of selecting the apparently best parameters by using a genetic algorithm to search for a couple of optimal parameter. Fast implementation issues for this method are also discussed for pragmatic reasons. The proposed method was tested on two repre- sentative hereditary breast cancer and acute leukaemia datasets. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method per- forms well in selecting genes and achieves high classification accuracies with these genes.

On Systems of Boundary Value Problems for Differential Inclusions

Herein we consider the existence of solutions to second-order, two-point boundary value problems （BVPs） for systems of ordinary differential inclusions. Some new Bernstein-nagumo conditions are presented that ensure a priori bounds on the derivative of solutions to the differential inclusion. These a priori bound results are then applied, in conjunction with appropriate topological methods, to prove some new existence theorems for solutions to systems of BVPs for differential inclusions. The new conditions allow of the treatment of systems of BVPs without growth restrictions.

Global Asymptotics of Krawtchouk Polynomials——a Riemann-Hilbert Approach

In this paper, we study the asymptotics of the Krawtchouk polynomials Kn^n（z;p,q） as the degree n becomes large. Asymptotic expansions are obtained when the ratio of the parameters n/n tends to a limit c E （0, 1） as n →∞. The results are globally valid in one or two regions in the complex z-plane depending on the values of c and p; in particular, they are valid in regions containing the interval on which these polynomials are orthogonal, Our method is based on the Riemann-Hilbert approach introduced by Delft and Zhou.

On the question of quark confinement in the Abelian U(1)QED gauge interaction

If we approximate light quarks as massless and apply the Schwinger confinement mechanism to light quarks,we will reach the conclusion that a light quark and its antiquark will be confined as a boson in the Abelian U(1)QED gauge interaction in(1+1)D,as in an open *** the work of coleman,Jackiw,and Susskind,we can infer further that the Schwinger confinement mechanism persists even for massive quarks in(1+1)*** such a QED-confined one-dimensional open string in(1+1)D be the idealization of a flux tube in the physical world in(3+1)D,similar to the case of QcD-confined open string?If so,the QED-confined bosons may show up as neutral QED mesons in the mass region of many tens of MeV[***.c 81,064903(2010)&*** Energy Phys.2020(8),165(2020)].Is it ever possible that a quark and an antiquark be produced and interact in QED alone to form a confined QED meson?Is there any experimental evidence for the existence of a QED meson(or QED mesons)?The observations of the anomalous soft photons,the X17 particle,and the E38 particle suggest that they may bear the experimental evidence for the existence of such QED *** confirmation and investigations on the X17 and E38 particles will shed definitive light on the question of quark confinement in QED in(3+1)*** of quark confinement in the QED interaction are discussed.

Decontamination of Landfill Leachate by Soil Infiltration
