Probit Analysis of Carbamate-Pesticide-Toxicity at Soil-Water Interface to n_2-Fixing Cyanobacterium Cylindrospermum sp.

Toxicity-data of two carbamate insecticides, carbaryl and carbofuran, and three fungicides, ziram, zineb and mancozeb with rice-field n2-fixing cyanobacterium Cylindrospermum sp., obtained by in vitro growth and at soil-water interface, were analyzed by the probit method. Growth enhancing concentration, no-observed effective concentration, minimum inhibitory concentration, the highest permissive concentration and lethal concentration100 （LCloo） were determined experimentally. The LC^o values of carbaryl, carbofuran, ziram, zineb and mancozeb in n2-fixing liquid medium were 56.2, 588.8, 0.07, 4.2 and 3.4 IJg/mL, respectively, whereas the corresponding LCloo values were 100.0, 1500.0, 0.17, 25.0 and 9.0 IJg/mL, respectively. The LC50 values of these pesticides in succession in n2-fixing agar medium were 44.7, 239.9, 0.07, 1.8 and 2.3 IJg/mL, respectively, whereas the corresponding LC100 values were 100.0, 600.0, 0.17, 10.0 and 7.0 IJg/mL, respectively. Similar results with nitrate supplemented liquid and agar media indicated that nitrate supplementation had toxicity reducing effect. The LCso and LC^oo values of toxicity in the n2-fixing liquid medium at soil-water interface were 91.2 and 200.0 IJg/mL for carbaryl, 2 317 and 6 000 pg/mL for carbofuran, 0.15 and 0.50 pg/mL for ziram, 16.4 and 50.0 pg/mL for zineb, and 7.2 and 25.0 pg/mL for mancozeb, respectively. Each LC^oo value at soil- water interface with a pesticide was significantly higher than its corresponding LCloo value at liquid/agar media. It can be concluded that, under the n2-fixing conditions, the cyanobacterium tolerated higher levels of each pesticide at soil-water interface.

Evaluating the potential of(epi)genotype‑by‑low pass nanopore sequencing in dairy cattle:a study on direct genomic value and methylation analysis

Background Genotype-by-sequencing has been proposed as an alternative to SnP genotyping arrays in genomic selection to obtain a high density of markers along the *** requires a low sequencing depth to be cost effective,which may increase the error at the genotype *** generation nanopore sequencing technology offers low cost sequencing and the possibility to detect genome methylation,which provides added value to *** aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of genotype-by-low pass nanopore sequencing for estimating the direct genomic value in dairy cattle,and the possibility to obtain methylation marks *** Latest nanopore chemistry(LSK14 and Q20)achieved a modal base calling accuracy of 99.55%,whereas previous kit(LSK109)achieved slightly lower accuracy(99.1%).The direct genomic value accuracy from genotype-by-low pass sequencing ranged between 0.79 and 0.99,depending on the trait(milk,fat or protein yield),with a sequencing depth as low as 2×and using the latest chemistry(LSK114).Lower sequencing depth led to biased estimates,yet with high rank *** LSK109 and Q20 achieved lower accuracies(0.57-0.93).More than one million high reliable methylated sites were obtained,even at low sequencing depth,located mainly in distal intergenic(87%)and promoter(5%)*** This study showed that the latest nanopore technology in useful in a LowPass sequencing framework to estimate direct genomic values with high *** may provide advantages in populations with no available SnP chip,or when a large density of markers with a wide range of allele frequencies is *** addition,low pass sequencing provided nucleotide methylation status of>1 million nucleotides at≥10×,which is an added value for epigenetic studies.

Colorectal cancer(CRC) is a major cause of mortality worldwide, associated with a steadily growing prevalence. notably, the identification of KRAS, nRAS, and BRAF mutations has markedly improved targeted CRC therapy by affording treatments directed against the epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) and other anti-angiogenic therapies. However, the survival benefit conferred by these therapies remains variable and difficult to predict, owing to the high level of molecular heterogeneity among patients with CRC. Although classification into consensus molecular subtypes could optimize response prediction to targeted therapies, the acquisition of resistance mutations to targeted therapy is, in part, responsible for the lack of response in some patients. However, the acquisition of such mutations can induce challenges in clinical practice. The utility of liquid biopsy to detect resistance mutations against anti-EGFR therapy has recently been described. This approach may constitute a new standard in the decision algorithm for targeted CRC therapy.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial and antifungal activities of eco-friendly synthesized silver *** silver nanoparticles were synthesized by biological method using aqueous extract of Abronia *** of silver nanoparticles was confirmed by color change and characterized using UV-visible spectroscopy,scanning electron microscope(SEM),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX),dynamic light scattering(DLS),and zeta potential *** SEM analysis revealed the presence of spherical silver nanoparticles of the size range 21 to 33 *** silver nanoparticles were used to evaluate their antibacterial effects at different concentrations(25,50,75 and 100μg/ml)on gram negative and gram positive *** biggest halo zone was observed at 75 and 100μg/ml concentrations of silver nanoparticles against both gram positive and gram negative *** activity of biosynthesized silver nanoparticles was evaluated against seven different phytopathogenic *** showed high inhibition of radial growth toward all tested *** highest inhibition of fungal growth by AgnPs was recorded against Macrophomina phaseolina(86.06±0.92%).Biosynthesized AgnPs using plant extract are a promising to use safety for various biomedical and agricultural applications.

AIM To assess the incremental benefit of narrow band imaging(nBI) and white light endoscopy(WLE), randomizing the initial technique for the detection of residual neoplasia at the polypectomy scar after an endoscopic piecemeal mucosal resection(EPMR).METHODS We conducted an observational study in an academic center to assess the incremental benefit of nBI and WLE randomly applied 1:1(nBI-WLE or WLE-nBI) in the follow-up of a post-EPMR scar by the same *** A total of 112 EPMR scars were included. The median baseline polyp size was 20 mm(interquartile range: 14-30). At first review, nBI and WLE showed good sensitivity(85.0% vs 78.9%), specificity(77.1% vs 84.2%) and overall accuracy(80.0% vs 82.5%). nBI after WLE(WLE-nBI group) improved accuracy, but this difference was not statistically significant [area under the curve(AUC): 86.8% vs 81.6%, P = 0.15]. WLE after nBI(nBI-WLE group) did not improve accuracy(AUC: 81.4% vs 81.1%, P = 0.9). Overall, recurrence was found in 39/112(34.8%) *** Although no statistically significant differences were found between the two techniques at the first postEPMR assessment, the use of nBI after WLE may improve residual neoplasia detection. nevertheless, biopsy is still required in the first scar review.

This article presents an analysis of the patterns of interactions resulting from the positive and negative emotional events that occur in cities,considering them as complex *** explores,from the imaginaries,how certain urban objects can act as emotional agents and how these events affect the urban system as a *** adaptive complex systems perspective is used to analyze these *** results show patterns in the processes and dynamics that occur in cities based on the objects that affect the emotions of the people who live *** patterns depend on the characteristics of the emotional charge of urban objects,but they can be generalized in the following process:(1)immediate reaction by some individuals;(2)emotions are generated at the individual level which begins to generalize,permuting to a collective emotion;(3)a process of reflection is detonated in some individuals from the reading of collective emotions;(4)integration/significance in the community both at the individual and collective level,on the concepts,roles and/or functions that give rise to the process in the ***,it is clear that emotions play a significant role in the development of cities and these aspects should be considered in the design strategies of all kinds of projects for the *** extensions of this work could include a deeper analysis of specific emotional events in urban environments,as well as possible implications for urban policy and decision making.

Re-folded structure of syn-orogenic granitoids(Padrón dome, nW Iberia):Assessing rheological evolution of cooling continental crust in a collisional setting

This contribution discusses about the rheological, kinematic and dynamic frameworks necessary to produce recumbent and upright folds from syn-orogenic granitic massifs that were formed during an early stage of magma genesis related to the onset of a migmatitic dome. Syn-kinematic granitoids occurring within the high-grade infrastructure of the Padron migmatitic dome(nW Iberia) are deformed into largescale recumbent folds(D_2) that are later affected by upright folds(D_3). Petrostructural analysis of a selected area of this dome reveals that after a period of crustal thickening(D_1), nnW-directed extensional flow gave way to recumbent folds and penetrative axial plane foliation(S_2). Superimposed subhorizontal compression resulted in upright folds(D_3). A closer view into the dynamics of the dome allows exploring the factors that may condition the nucleation of folds with contrasting geometries during progressive deformation of molten continental crust. The formation of folds affecting syn-kinematic granitoids suggests a cooling metamorphic path in migmatitic domes. Active and passive folding mechanisms require a crystallizing(cooling) magma to nucleate folds. A more competent metamorphic host inhibits fold nucleation from much less competent magmas. As it crystallizes, magma becomes more rigid(competent),and approaches viscosity values of its host. Passive folding is favored when no significant competence contrast exists between magma and host, so this folding mechanism is more likely shortly after magma genesis and emplacement. In such conditions, and under dominant subhorizontal flow accompanied by flattening(D_2),passive folding would produce isoclinal recumbent geometries. Further magma cooling introduces a shift into the rheological behavior of partially molten crust. Better together? Treating traumatic brain injury with minocycline plus n-acetylcysteine

Traumatic brain injury has a complex pathophysiology that produces both rapid and delayed brain damage. Rapid damage initiates immediately after injury. Treatment of traumatic brain injury is typically delayed many hours, thus only delayed damage can be targeted with drugs. Delayed traumatic brain injury includes neuroinflammation, oxidative damage, apoptosis, and glutamate toxicity. Both the speed and complexity of traumatic brain injury pathophysiology present large obstacles to drug development. Repurposing of Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs may be a highly efficient approach to get therapeutics to the clinic. This review examines the preclinical outcomes of minocycline and n-acetylcysteine as individual drugs and compares them to the minocycline plus n-acetylcysteine combination. Both minocycline and n-acetylcysteine are Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs with pleiotropic therapeutic effects. As individual drugs, minocycline and n-acetylcysteine are well tolerated, with known pharmacokinetics, and enter the brain through an intact blood-brain barrier. At concentrations greater than needed for antimicrobial action, minocycline is a potent anti-inflammatory minocycline, also acts as an antioxidant and inhibits multiple enzymes that promote brain injury including metalloproteases, caspases, and polyADP-ribose-polymerase-1. n-acetylcysteine alone is also an antioxidant. It increases brain glutathione, prevents lipid oxidation, and protects mitochondria. n-acetylcysteine also acts as an anti-inflammatory as well as increases extracellular glutamate by activating the X;cystine-glutamate antitransporter. These multiple actions of minocycline and n-acetylcysteine have made them attractive candidates to treat traumatic brain injury. When first dosed within the one hour after injury, either minocycline or n-acetylcysteine improves a diverse set of therapeutic outcome measures in multiple traumatic brain injury animal models.
