Introduction of controllable deformations into periodic materials that lead to disclinations in their structure opens novel routes for construction of higher-order topological insulators hosting topological states at *** of these topological states is consistent with the bulk-disclination correspondence principle,and is due to the filling anomaly that results in fractional charges to the boundary unit *** far,topological disclination states were observed only in the linear regime,while the interplay between nonlinearity and topology in the systems with disclinations has been never studied *** report here on the experimental observation of the nonlinear photonic disclination states in waveguide arrays with pentagonal or heptagonal disclination cores inscribed in transparent optical medium using the fs-laser writing *** transition between nontopological and topological phases in such structures is controlled by the Kekulédistortion coefficient r with topological phase hosting simultaneously disclination states at the inner disclination core and spatially separated from them corner-I,corner-II,and extended edge states at the outer edge of the *** show that the robust nonlinear disclination states bifurcate from their linear counterparts and that location of their propagation constants in the gap and,hence,their spatial localization can be controlled by their *** disclination states can be efficiently excited by Gaussian input beams,but only if they are focused into the waveguides belonging to the disclination core,where such topological states *** results open new prospects for investigation of nonlinear effects in topological systems with disclinations and are relevant for different areas of science,including Bose-Einstein and polariton condensates,where potentials with the disclinations can be created.

This study provides new insights into the nature of seasonal variations in coordinate time series of GPS sites located near active faults and methods of their modeling. Monthly averaged coordinate time series were analyzed for several pairs of collocated GPS sites situated near the active fault intersection area, in close proximity to the central part of the northern boundary of the Amurian plate and the vicinity of the San Andreas Fault zone. It is concluded that the observed seasonal variations are best described by a breather function which is one of the solutions of the well-known sine-Gordon equation. The obtained results suggest that, in this case, the source of seasonal variations may be caused by the appearance of solitary strain waves in the fault intersection system, which may be qualitatively treated as standing waves of compression-extension of the geological medium. Based on statistical testing, the limits of applicability of the suggested model have been established.

Biogeographic diversification in nolana(Solanaceae),a ubiquitous member of the Atacama and Peruvian Deserts along the western coast of South America

L-carvone attenuates myocardial injury and dyslipidemia in rats with isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy

Objective:To explore the therapeutic efficacy of L-carvone from Mentha spicata *** extracts against isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy in ***:Isoproterenol(5 mg/kg)was injected intraperitoneally into rats for one month to induce cardiac hypertrophy.L-carvone(25 and 100 mg/kg)was administered orally to treat cardiac *** cardioprotective activity of L-carvone was evaluated by electrocardiogram,histopathological analysis as well as determination of biochemical parameters and enzymatic ***:L-carvone from Mentha spicata *** 25 and 100 mg/kg ameliorated isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy,as evidenced by reduced QRS interval on electrocardiogram,and decreased heart weight and heart *** addition,both doses of L-carvone markedly lowered the levels of glucose,total protein,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol,aspartate transaminase,alanine transaminase,lactate dehydrogenase,creatine kinase MB,troponin-Ⅰ,n-terminal pro-B type natriuretic peptide and triglycerides while increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and lipase level(Pne alleviated contraction band necrosis,and reorganized the myofibrils with normal striations and myocytes as well as normal nuclei in cardiac histoarchitecture of rats with isoproterenol-induced cardiac ***:L-carvone from Mentha spicata *** extract can restore abnormal cardiac function and may be further explored as a therapeutic agent against the deleterious effects of cardiac hypertrophy after further evaluation.

The increased demand for food worldwide,the reduced land availability for livestock pro-duction,the increasing cost of animal feed and the need for mitigating livestock-related greenhouse gas emissions have driven the search for animal feeding systems that proves more *** tackle this problem,we propose the use of computational support to help researchers compare data on feed efficiency,therefore improving economic and environ-mental *** a solution,we present an integrative architecture capable of combining heterogeneous data from multiple experiments related to dairy cattle feed efficiency *** proposed architecture,called FeedEfficiencyService,classifies animals according to feed efficiency indices and allows visualizations through ontologies and inference *** results obtained from a case study with researchers from the Brazilian Agri-cultural Research Corporation–Dairy Cattle(EMBRAPA)demonstrate that this architecture is a supporting tool in their daily work *** researchers highlighted the importance of the proposed architecture as it allows analyzing animal data,comparing experiments,having reliable data analyses,and standardizing and organizing data from *** novelty of our approach is the use of ontologies and inference engines to enable the discovery of new knowledge and new relationships between data from feed efficiency-related *** store such data,relationships,and analyses of results in an inte-grated *** solution ensures unified access to the processing history and data from diverse experiments,including those conducted at external research centers.

Research on two-dimensional(2D) materials is one of the most active fields in materials science and nanotechnology. Among the members of the 2D family, layered hydroxides(LHs) represent an exceptional case of study due to their unparalleled chemical versatility which allows the modulation of their physicochemical properties at will. nowadays, LHs based on earth-abundant metals are key materials in the areas of energy storage and conversion, hybrid materials or magnetism. α-Co hydroxides(Simonkolleite-like structures) are promising phases with tuneable electronic and magnetic properties by ligand modification. However, even in the simple case of α-Co^(Ⅱ) hydroxychlorides, the preparation of well-defined large 2D crystals is not straightforward, hindering the development of fundamental studies. Herein, we present the synthesis of 2D hexagonal crystals with outstanding sizethickness relationship(diameter > 5 μm and thickness of 20 ± 7 nm) by a simple homogeneous synthesis taking place at room temperature. In structural terms, no differences are observed between our layered materials and those obtained hydrothermally. However, dynamic susceptibility measurements alert about different arrangements of the magnetic sublattices, which have been rationalized with structural DFT calculations. This work provides an extremely easy bottom-up method to obtain high-quality 2D crystals based on α-CoIIhydroxides,paving the way for the development of fundamental studies and applications.

Influence of monovalent Bi^+doping on real composition,point defects,and photoluminescence in TlCdCl3 and TlCdI3 single crystals

The structural features and real compositions with point defects of Bi+-doped TlCdCl_3 and TlCdI_3 single crystals, grown by the Bridgman-Stockbarger technique, are first studied using the X-ray diffraction, X-ray synchrotron radiation, and EXAFS/XAnES spectroscopy. In the structures of Bi^+-doped TlCdCl_3 and TlCdI_3 crystals, the Cd, Cl, and I sites are found to be defect-free. The vacancies in the Tl sites and interstitial Bi atoms located in the vicinity of the Tl sites are detected in the structures of both samples. In the Bi^+-doped TlCdCl_3, the presence of a small amount of Bi^+ ions in the Tl^+ sites is possible. The correlation between photoluminescence bands and point defects in the refined structures are determined. Photoluminescence spectra and decay kinetics of the Bi+-doped TlCdCl_3 and TlCdI_3 demonstrate that they are attractive materials for potential applications in photonics.
