Pure and Mg-doped self-assembled ZnO nano-particles for the enhanced photocatalytic degradation of 4-chlorophenol

A novel self-assembled pure and Mg doped ZnO nano-particles （nPs） were successfully synthesized by a simple low temperature co-precipitation method. The prepared photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, high resolution scanning electron mi- croscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and photoluminescence （PL） spectroscopy. The results indicated that the prepared photocatalysts showed high crystallinity with a uniform size distribution of the nPs. The degradation of cholorphenols is highly mandatory in today＇s scenario as they are affecting the environment adversely. Thus, the photocatalytic degradation of 4-chlorophenol （4-CP）, a potent endocrine disrupting chemical in aqueous medium was investigated by both pure and Mg-doped ZnO nPs under UV-light irradiation in the present study. The influence of the Mg content on the structure, morphology, PL character and photocatalytic activity of ZnO nPs were investigated systematically. Furthermore,the effect of different parameters such as 4-CP concentration, photocatalyst amount, pH and UV-light wavelength on the resulting photocatalytic activity was investigated.

Although the water splitting-based generation of hydrogen as an energy carrier can help to mitigate the global problems of energy shortage and climate change,the practical implementation of this strategy is hindered by the absence of inexpensive high-performance electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).Re-based HER electrocatalysts exhibit predictable high performance within the entire pH range but suffer from arduous formation (i.e.,vulnerability to oxidation) and uncontrollable aggregation,which strongly discourages the maximisation of active site exposure required for activity *** overcome these limitations,we herein hydrothermally synthesise Re nanoclusters uniformly distributed on nanosheet supports,such as reduced graphene oxide nanosheets (Re nCs@rGO),revealing that this hybrid features abundant exposed active sites and high oxidation *** obtained electrocatalysts were elaborately characterized by microscopic and spectroscopic ***,density functional theory calculations confirm the optimised synthesis of Re nCs@rGO and indicate the crucial role of Re–O–C junction formation in securing *** effective suppression of Re nanocluster detachment/dissolution under HER conditions endows Re nCs@rGO with high electron conductivity and electrochemical stability,resulting in a durability superior to that of commercial Pt/C and an activity similar to that of this *** a result,Re nCs@rGO exhibited remarkably small HER overpotentials of 110,130,and 93 m V to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm^(-2) in 0.5 M H_(2)SO_(4),1 M PBS,and 1 M KOH,***,Re nCs@rGO is a promising alternative to conventional Pt-group-metal catalysts and should find applications in next-generation high-performance water splitting systems.

A physical hypothesis for the electrical coupling of the troposphere, ionosphere and magnetosphere has been proposed. It is shown that the vertical mass exchange takes place in the troposphere, ionosphere and magnetosphere by the gravity wave feedback mechanism through a chain of eddy systems. The vertical mass exchange gives rise to a vertical aerosol current which is responsible for the generation and maintenance of atmospheric electric field and also the variations in the H-component of the geomagnetic field. Any perturbation in the troposphere would be transmitted to ionosphere and vice versa. A global perturbation in ionosphere, as the one caused by solar variability, is transmitted to troposphere influencing weather systems/geomagnetic/atmospheric electrification *** theory relating to the above physical mechanism is discussed. Rice husk ash(RHA) is a potential particulate reinforcement to produce aluminum matrix composites(AMCs)*** method was applied to produce aluminum alloy AA6061 reinforced with various amounts(0,2%,4%,6%and 8%,mass fraction) of RHA *** prepared composites were characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.X-ray diffraction patterns of AA6061/RHA AMCs revealed the presence of RHA particles without the formation of any other intermetallic *** scanning electron micrographs showed a homogeneous distribution of RHA particles all over the aluminum *** distribution of RHA particles was ***,RHA particles were bonded well with the aluminum matrix and a clear interface *** reinforcement of RHA particles enhanced the microhardness and ultimate tensile strength(UTS) of the *** tensile behavior is correlated to the microstructure of the AMCs.

Analysis of tropical cyclone(TC) rainfall characteristics helps in understanding and improving quantitative precipitation forecasts of TCs. Based on the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission(TRMM) rainfall data for the period of 2000-2010, a TC rainfall database –Tropical Cyclone Rainfall Analysis for north Indian Ocean(TCRAIn) is developed to study the precipitation characteristics during various stages of life cycle of TCs of the north Indian Ocean(nIO). Three rainfall products, viz., frequency distribution of rain rate, azimuthally averaged radial profile of rain rate and quadrant mean rain rate with respect to the TC centre and the direction of motion of the TC are generated in a Lagrangian frame of coordinate system for 5 intensity stages of life cycle of each cyclone over nIO. Using this TCRAIn database, composites of frequency distribution of rain rates as well as quadrant mean rain rate for TCs of nIO are generated to bring out probable rain rates and asymmetric structure in rainfall distribution. Rainfall profiles for individual cases are likely to deviate from the climatological profiles under different environmental and oceanic conditions. TCRAIn database would serve as a useful tool for carrying out intensity based analytical studies on structure of rainfall associated with cyclones of nIO through ready depiction of TC rainfall profiles.

According to the World Health Organization(WHO),oxidative stress(OS)is a significant contributor to male *** can be measured by a number of assays,all of which are either costly or time sensitive and/or require large semen volume andcomplex *** less expensive alternative is to quantify the oxidation-reduction potential(ORP)with the *** this international multi-center study,we assessed whether ORP levels measured by the MiOXSYS could distinguish semensamples that fall within the 2010 WHO normal reference values from those that do *** samples were collected from 2092patients in 9 countries;ORP was normalized to sperm concentration(mV/10^6 sperm/ml).Only those samples with a concentration>1×10^6 sperm ml1 were in *** results showed that 199 samples fell within the WHO no rmal refere nee range while theremaining 1893 samples did not meet one or more of the *** was negatively correlated with all semen parameters(P nder the curve for ORP was *** ORP cut-off value(1.34 mV/10^6 sperm/ml)was able todifferentiate specimens with abnormal semen parameters with 98.1%sensitivity,40.6%specificity,94.7%positive predictivevalue(PPV)and 66.6%negative predictive value(nPV).When used as an adjunct to traditional semen analysis,ORP levels mayhelp identify altered functional status of spermatozoa caused by OS in cases of idiopathic male infertility and in male partners ofcouples sufferi ng recurre nt pregna ncy loss,and thereby directi ng these men to relevant medical therapies and lifestyle modificati ons.

【目的】本研究旨在评价樟脑罗勒Ocimum canum Sims(唇形科)叶的正己烷、丙酮和甲醇提取物对四纹豆象Callosobruchus maculatus(F.)的杀虫、保护和驱避潜力。【方法】用剂量为1和5 g/kg豆粒的樟脑罗勒提取物包被处理豇豆和大豆豆粒,并以相同剂量的市售苦楝籽油进行包被处理作为参照。7 d内每隔1 d检查处理豆粒中四纹豆象成虫的死亡率。在四纹豆象的各个未成熟期,通过处理新产卵和幼虫,进行杀卵毒性和杀幼虫毒性测试。贮存4个月后评价豆粒受损情况和重量损失。应用线型嗅觉仪,通过选择试验测定驱避效果。【结果】提取物对四纹豆象成虫的毒性与市售苦楝籽油相同,在处理的豇豆中,提取物比市售的苦楝籽油毒性更强。5 g/kg豆粒提取物这一剂量处理7 d内,正己烷、丙酮和甲醇提取物分别引起54.2%±3.9%,62.9%±4.8%和60.3%±4.5%的成虫死亡。此外,与测试的标准杀虫剂相比,提取物激发这两种豆粒产生更强的驱避效果。这一产物对卵的毒性最强,对1和2龄幼虫的毒性比对其他发育阶段豆象的毒性强。正己烷提取物对2龄幼虫的毒性最强(致死率为81.0%±5.3%),而丙酮提取物和甲醇提取物对1龄幼虫的毒性最强,致死率分别为92.5%±7.5%和62.0%±15.7%。丙酮提取物对1和2龄幼虫的毒性与测试的标准杀虫剂相似,对蛹的毒性强于测试的标准杀虫剂。贮存4个月后,豇豆受损和重量损失分别减轻3倍和2倍多。【结论】本研究结果表明,樟脑罗勒提取物对四纹豆象具有潜在的驱避和杀虫活性,由于容易获得,因此强烈建议将该植物用于喀麦隆的害虫治理策略中。
