Mapping of hard rock aquifer system and artificial recharge zonation were carried out in an area of 325 km^2 in parts of the Perambalur District,Tamil nadu,*** district has been declared as one of the over-exploited regions in Tamil nadu by the Central Groundwater *** raise the groundwater level,suitable recharge zones were identified and artificial recharge structures are suggested using geomatics technology in the present *** this end,various thematic maps concerning lithology,soil,geomorphology,land use,land cover,slope,lineament,lineament density,drainage,drainage density and groundwater depth level were *** hornblende gneiss(244 km^2)covered most of the study area followed by charnockites(68 km^2).Structural hills and rocky pediments characterize the major geomorphological features in the targeted area,and are followed by deep moderated *** area is mostly used as crop and fallow land,followed by scrub land and deciduous *** the study area,the slopes are predominantly very gentle(142 km^2)and nearly level(66 km^2)***,Groundwater level data of 58 wells have been generated,in which the minimum and maximum depth were 3 and 28 m *** under the GIS environment has been carried out using all the thematic layers to identify the groundwater prospect zone through the introduction of weight and rank *** output performances were classified into very poor,poor,moderate,good and excellent *** these classes were further divided into two groups as suitable and non-suitable area for the selection of recharge *** rock fractures were mapped as lineaments from satellite images,and besides that,rose diagram was also generated to find out the trend of the ***,fracture data of 146 numbers have been collected using Brunton compass to generate rose diagram and were correlated with the rose diagram derived from *** present study significantly brought up

Effect of In-Situ TiB<sub>2</sub>Particle Addition on the Mechanical Properties of AA 2219 Al Alloy Composite

Aluminium alloy AA2219 was reinforced with TiB2 particles introduced in-situ by the saltmetal reaction technique. The microstructural examinations of the composites clearly reveal the formation of TiB2 particles with a hexagonal morphology. The addition of TiB2 particles results in increased mechanical properties, such as 0.2%YS, UTS and hardness. The improvement in mechanical properties is correlated to the microstructure.

Influence of Quantal and Statistical Fluctuations on Phase Transitions in Finite nuclei

Investigations on thermal evolution of pairing-phase transition and shape-phase transition in light nuclei are made as a function of pair gap, deformation, temperature and angular momentum using a finite temperature statistical approach with main emphasis to fluctuations. The occurrence of a peak structure in the specific heat predicted as signals of the pairing-phase and shape-phase transitions are reviewed and it is found that they are not actually true phase transitions and it is only an artifact of the mean field models. Since quantal number and spin fluctuations and statistical fluctuations in pair gap, deformation degrees of freedom and energy when incorporated, it wash out the pairing-phase transition and smooth out the shape-phase transition. Phase transitions due to collapse of pair gap and deformation is discussed and a clear picture of pairing-phase transition in light nuclei is presented in which pairing transition is reconciled.

This work presents a 3D-printed,modular,electrochemical sensor-integrated transwell system for monitoring cellular and molecular events in situ without sample extraction or microfluidics-assisted downstream *** additive manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing,shadow masking,and molding are used to fabricate this modular system,which is autoclavable,biocompatible,and designed to operate following standard operating protocols(SOPs)of cellular *** to the platform is a flexible porous membrane,which is used as a cell culture substrate similarly to a commercial transwell *** electrochemical sensors fabricated on the membrane allow direct access to cells and their products.A pair of gold electrodes on the top side of the membrane measures impedance over the course of cell attachment and growth,characterized by an exponential decrease(~160%at 10Hz)due to an increase in the double layer capacitance from secreted extracellular matrix(ECM)*** voltammetry(CV)sensor electrodes,fabricated on the bottom side of the membrane,enable sensing of molecular release at the site of cell culture without the need for downstream ***-time detection of ferrocene dimethanol injection across the membrane showed a three order-of-magnitude higher signal at the membrane than in the bulk media after reaching *** modular sensor-integrated transwell system allows unprecedented direct,real-time,and noninvasive access to physical and biochemical information,which cannot be obtained in a conventional transwell system.

Gut–brain axis(GBA)communication relies on serotonin(5-HT)signaling between the gut epithelium and the peripheral nervous system,where 5-HT release patterns from the basolateral(i.e.,bottom)side of the epithelium activate nerve *** have been few quantitative studies of this gut-neuron signaling due to a lack of real-time measurement tools that can access the basolateral gut *** vitro platforms allow quantitative studies of cultured gut tissue,but they mainly employ offline and endpoint assays that cannot resolve dynamic molecular-release ***,we present the modification of a microporous cell culture membrane with carbon nanotube-coated gold(Au-CnT)electrodes capable of continuous,label-free,and direct detection of 5-HT at physiological *** characterization of single-walled carbon nanotube(SWCnT)-coated Au electrodes shows increased electroactive surface area,5-HT specificity,sensitivity,and saturation time,which are correlated with the CnT film drop-cast *** microliters of CnT films,with a 10-min saturation time,0.6μA/μM 5-HT sensitivity,and reliable detection within a linear range of 500 nM–10μM 5-HT,can be targeted for high-concentration,high-time-resolution 5-HT *** films(12.5μL)with a 2-h saturation time,4.5μA/μM 5-HT sensitivity,and quantitative detection in the linear range of 100 nM–1μM can target low concentrations with low time *** electrodes achieved continuous detection of dynamic diffusion across the porous membrane,mimicking basolateral 5-HT release from cells,and detection of cell-released 5-HT from separately cultured RIn14B cell ***-integrated cell culture systems such as this can improve in vitro molecular detection mechanisms and aid in quantitative GBA signaling studies.

nanoparticles in mitigating gaseous emissions from liquid dairy manure stored under anaerobic condition

A number of mitigation techniques exist to reduce the emissions of pollutant gases and greenhouse gases(GHGs) from anaerobic storage of livestock manure. nanoparticle(nP)application is a promising mitigating treatment option for pollutant gases, but limited research is available on the mode of nP application and their effectiveness in gaseous emission reduction. In this study, zinc silica nanogel(ZnSnL), copper silica nanogel(CuSnL), and n-acetyl cysteine(nACL) coated zinc oxide quantum dot(Qdot) nPs were compared to a control lacking nPs. All three nPs tested significantly reduced gas production and concentrations compared to non-treated manure. Overall, cumulative gas volumes were reduced by 92.73%–95.83%, and concentrations reduced by 48.98%–99.75% for H_2S, and 20.24%–99.82% for GHGs. Thus, application of nPs is a potential treatment option for mitigating pollutant and GHG emissions from anaerobically stored manure.

Short-Term Effect of nitrogen Intensification on Aggregate Size Distribution, Microbial Biomass and Enzyme Activities in a Semi-Arid Soil Under Different Crop Types

There is a lack of quantitative assessments available on the effect of agricultural intensification on soil aggregate distribution and microbial properties. Here, we investigated how short-term nitrogen(n) intensification induced changes in aggregate size distribution and microbial properties in a soil of a hot moist semi-arid region(Bangalore, India). We hypothesised that n intensification would increase the accumulation of macroaggregates > 2 mm and soil microbial biomass and activity, and that the specific crop plant sowed would influence the level of this increase. In november 2016, surface(0–10 cm) and subsurface(10–20 cm) soil samples were taken from three n fertilisation treatments, low n(50 kg n ha-1), medium n(75 and 100 kg n ha-1 for finger millet and maize, respectively),and high n(100 and 150 kg n ha-1 for finger millet and maize, respectively). Distribution of water-stable aggregate concentrations,carbon(C) and n dynamics within aggregate size class, and soil microbial biomass and activity were evaluated. The high-n treatment significantly increased the concentration of large macroaggregates in the subsurface soil of the maize crop treatment, presumably due to an increased C input from root growth. Different n fertilisation levels did not significantly affect C and n concentrations in different aggregate size classes or the bulk soil. High-n applications significantly increased dehydrogenase activity in both the surface soil and the subsurface soil and urease activity in the surface soil, likely because of increased accumulation of enzymes stabilised by soil colloids in dry soils. Dehydrogenase activity was significantly affected by the type of crop, but urease activity not. Overall, our results showed that high n application rates alter large macroaggregates and enzyme activities in surface and subsurface soils through an increased aboveground and corresponding belowground biomass input in the maize crop.

Changes in plant community and soil ecological indicators in response to Prosopis juliflora and Acacia mearnsii invasion and removal in two biodiversity hotspots in Southern India

Invasion of alien plant species can alter local plant diversity and ecosystem processes closely linked to soil organic carbon(SOC)and nutrient *** ecosystem processes such as microbial respiration and enzyme activity have been poorly explored under alien plant invasion and especially following invasive plant species *** studied the impact of Prosopis juliflora and Acacia mearnsii invasion and subsequent removal on local plant community composition and diversity and on soil microbial respiration and enzyme activity in two biodiversity hotspots in Southern *** of Prosopis promoted recolonisation of local vegetation as indicated by a 38% and 28% increase in species richness and ground vegetation cover,respectively,compared to an unremoved *** and Acacia removal led to a significant reduction in soil microbial biomass C(MBC),respiration,dehydrogenase and urease activity due to increased microbial respiration and n mineralisation *** metabolic quotients qCO_(2) in soil at Prosopis and Acacia removed sites indicate that MBC pools declined at a faster rate than SOC,resulting decreased MBC/SOC ratios compared to their respective removed *** and undisturbed ecosystems maintain more SOC through increased belowground and aboveground C input in the soil,resulting in a higher MBC content per unit *** results indicate that the interaction between above-and below-ground communities is a critical factor determining the structure and dynamics of local plant communities,especially in ecosystems affected by plant invasions.

Computational analysis of deleterious missense mutations in aspartoacylase that cause Canavan's disease

In this work, the most detrimental missense mutations of aspartoacylase that cause Canavan's disease were identified computationally and the substrate binding efficiencies of those missense mutations were analyzed. Out of 30 missense mutations, I-Mutant 2.0, SIFT and PolyPhen programs identified 22 variants that were less stable, deleterious and damaging respectively. Subsequently, modeling of these 22 variants was performed to understand the change in their conformations with respect to the native aspartoacylase by computing their root mean squared deviation (RMSD). Furthermore, the native protein and the 22 mutants were docked with the substrate nAA (n-Acetyl-Aspartic acid) to explain the substrate binding efficiencies of those detrimental missense mutations. Among the 22 mutants, the docking studies identified that 15 mutants caused lower binding affinity for nAA than the native protein. Finally, normal mode analysis determined that the loss of binding affinity of these 15 mutants was caused by altered flexibility in the amino acids that bind to nAA compared with the native protein. Thus, the pre- sent study showed that the majority of the substrate-binding amino acids in those 15 mutants displayed loss of flexibility, which could be the theoretical explanation of decreased binding affinity between the mutant aspartoacylases and nAA.
