Maize is a staple food in many sub-Saharan African countries, grown on large surfaces and with high production. However, maize’s cultivation is often confronted with attacks by the fall armyworm, which considerably reduces production. Thus, the use of biological agents in the control of the fall armyworm would contribute effectively to the sustainability of agriculture. It is in this context that this study, conducted at the La Mé station of the national Centre for Agronomy Research, aims to test the effectiveness of Rhynocoris rapax, a powerful predator of various insect families, on the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda, for biological control of this maize pest in Côte d’Ivoire. Therefore, 3 batches of 1 adult individuals of Rhynocoris rapax were captured in trial plots set up at the La Mé station. These individuals were then put in contact with 3 batches of 5, 20 and 40 larvae of the pest in rearing boxes at an average temperature of 26.4°C and an average relative humidity of 60%, in order to evaluate the efficiency of the predation. The results showed that Rhynocoris rapax kills more larvae when these are in large numbers. The mortality of the high number of larvae was observed during the first three days, probably due to the voracity and aggressiveness of Rhynocoris rapax that period. So R. rapax is a potential predator of fall armyworm and should be protected.

Petrochemical Studies of Fouimba and Goma Mounts, Central-West of Cote d’Ivoire: Implication on Petrogenesis Tectonic Setting

Petrogeochemical analysis of mafic rocks of Fouimba and Goma Mount in the Séguéla region (central-western Côte d’Ivoire) is the subject of this study. This analysis combines remote sensing, geophysics, petrography and geochemistry, in order to determine the major characteristics of the mafic formations in the said area, and above all to participate in the detailed mapping of all the Ivorian terrains. The mafic formations encountered in this region are essentially metatonalites to metadiorites, amphibolites, amphibole bearing pyroxenites and porphyry basalts. Chemical analysis indicates that these mafic formations are tonalitic to monzonitic. They are thought to have derived from mantle depleted magmas.

Vitamin D and Parathyroid Hormone Profiles in Living Kidney Failure Patients in Côte d’Ivoire

Introduction: Abnormalities in mineral and bone metabolism, particularly phosphocalcic metabolism, are common in renal failure and are associated with a significant morbidity and mortality. The regulation of phosphocalcic metabolism is subject to a particularly precise and complex control of parathormone (PTH) and vitamin D. Assessment of vitamin D and parathyroid hormone concentrations would help to improve the medical management of patients with chronic kidney disease and ensure a better quality of life. Methods: The study population consisted of 138 individuals including 46 non- dialysis renal failure patients, 46 chronic hemodialysis patients and 46 non- renal failure volunteers to serve as controls. Serum Parathyroid hormone and Vitamin D concentrations were measured using the Vidas automated system. Results: 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations in controls (65 ± 2.41 nmol/L) and dialysis patients (70 ± 3.03 nmol/L) were significantly higher than those in CKD patients (48 ± 3.34 nmol/L). On the other hand, the mean values of Parathyroid hormone in dialysis patients (312 ± 36.22 pg/mL) and CKD patients (117 ± 10.68 pg/mL) were very high compared to that in controls (25 ± 2.34 pg/mL). Conclusion: Secondary hyperparathyroidism is common in renal failure. Parathyroid hormone and 25-hydroxyvitamin D assays would be adequate for better management of chronic renal failure.

Objective:The relationship between mitochondrial DnA(mtDnA)polymorphisms and abnormalities in sperm quality has been the subject of several studies,with the objective of improving the treatment of male *** study,which contributes to the identification of genetic markers of sperm abnormalities,was conducted to study mtDnA mutations in the asthenozoospermia ***:This case-control study included 30 patients with asthenozoospermia and 28 with normospermia after spermogram and spermocytogram *** the extraction of total DnA from the spermatozoa of 58 ejaculates from these individuals using the phenol-chloroform method,the amplification of genes of interest in mtDnA using specific primers was performed by conventional polymerase chain reaction,and sequencing was used to detect ***:Male patients with asthenozoospermia in the tertiary sector had significantly more mutant-than wild-type(P=0.0005)MT-CO II ***,for the same gene,males with asthenozoospermia and primary infertility had significantly more mutants than the wild-type(P=0.001).Sequencing revealed 29 mutations that were observed only with asthenozoospermia,which could be the basis for low sperm ***:This study identified several mutations in mtDnA genes that could be considered genetic markers of asthenozoospermia if confirmed in a deeper study.

Mapping and Petro-Structural Study of northern Komborodougou Formations, in Korhogo Gold District: A Substantial Contribution to the Discovery of a Potential Gold Mineralization in Birimian Greenstone Belts

The Gold District of Korhogo, in the northern region of C?te d’Ivoire, holds enormous potential for gold mineralizations, some of which are under exploration phase and others in exploitation phase (example of Tongon Gold Mine). Dormant since 1998, Mapping Services of most of the West African countries hardly provide geological maps at the scales of: 1/200,000, 1/50,000 and 1/25,000. This situation of unavailability of detailed geological maps does not help mining operators in the selection of prolific areas and also in the interpretation of in soil geochem anomies or gold mineralizations. Consequently, during the years 2020 and 2021, we have undertaken a campaign of geological mapping and petro-structural study of the northern sector of Komborodougou, located in the southern extension of Banfora Birimian Belt. This work, which allowed the realization of a geological map at 1/20,000 scale, reveals that: the mapped area includes three (3) major lithological units: 1) a volcano-sedimentary unit made up of metasediments (metaarenites, metasiltites and metaflyschs) and metavolcanites (metabasalts), which are metamorphosed and outcrop in the form of schists;2) a metaplutonic and intrusive unit composed on the one hand of quartz-diorites and metagabbros, and on the other hand of granites and granodiorites;3) and finally, a unit of dikes formed by microgranites, microgabbros, aplites and quartzites. The volcano-sedimentary complex is affected by a regional fold with an axis subparallel to the regional tectonic grain and an S1 schistosity oriented nE-SW to nnE-SSW with steep dips (>60o), except for those of the metaflyschs which are weak (o);a regional nW-SE compression would be at the origin of the setting of this schistosity. The volcano-sediment and metaplutonite complex is crossed in a nnE-SSW direction by a senetral shear-zone or main shear-zone and secondary shear-zones oriented sometimes nE-SW or n-S. The Oryzenin’s Effect on Di, Tri and Quadri-Saccharide Degradation. An Investigation by a Mixed Method: OnIOM (DFT/B3LYP/6 - 31 + G(d, p): AM1)

The paddy rice degradation remains a concern for research;the chemical phenomena underlying this process persists unknown. This research aims to identify the mechanism of starch degradation. It determines the nature of the reactions between two, three and four synthons of amylose with oryzenin using theoretical methods. The OnIOM (DFT/B3LYP/6 - 31 + G(d, p): AM1) level of theory is performed on four monomers and eight complexes. Frequencies make it possible to obtain energy and spectroscopic quantities. Calculations after geometry optimization. Following this, a “single point” allows exploiting the “natural Bond Orbital (nBO)” analysis. The first three parameters suggest that the main interactions between oryzenin and amylose arise through O29-H30…O46 hydrogen bonds (HB). Furthermore, this result posits that the length of the amylose doesn’t influence this reaction. The nBO analysis shows that this component of starch degrades first at the end of the chain to produce monosaccharides;it can also alter in the middle of the chain to give disaccharides.

Monitoring Forest Recovery in Protected Forests of northern Côte d’Ivoire Using Landsat Imagery and Intensity Change Analysis

In this paper, the initiatives of reforestation of the national forests of the north of the Côte d’Ivoire were examined using geomatics and the analysis of change of intensity by taking the case of the protected Forest of Badénou (PFB). A spatial analysis based on multi-spectral and multi-temporal Landsat imagery was carried out to assess land cover changes in the (PFB) over the past two decades and determine whether patterns of change in terms of the intensity of gains/losses of each of the land cover classes were active or dormant between the period before (2000-2013) and after (2013-2019) the reforestation initiative. Five main classes were identified: forest (dry deciduous and gallery forests), tree savannah, shrub/grassy savannah (including agricultural lands), bare lands (bare soils and degraded land areas), and water course. All classes were satisfactorily classified, with an excellent producer’s and user’s and overall accuracies and very good Kappa coefficients. The results showed that between 2000 and 2019, the forest cover in the PFB increased from 7778 ha to 5054 ha, a decrease was marked between 2000 and 2013 of approximately 60% compared to its size in 2000, while a slight increase between 2013 and 2019 (4645 ha to 5054 ha) i.e. around 9%) certainly due to the reforestation since 2016. As for the annual intensities of change for each class in both study periods, changes (gain or loss) in forest and tree savanna were relatively dormant after reforestation, while annual bare land gain was relatively active and marked, indicating that degradation of forests remains a threat to the sustainability of the PFB. Forest degradation has occurred mainly in the eastern parts of the PFB, while the central parts have regained more tree cover. These results can help identify conservation and restoration priorities and improve the overall management of the PFB.

With the advent of Big Data, the fields of Statistics and Computer Science coexist in current information systems. In addition to this, technological advances in embedded systems, in particular Internet of Things technologies, make it possible to develop real-time applications. These technological developments are disrupting Software Engineering because the use of large amounts of real-time data requires advanced thinking in terms of software architecture. The purpose of this article is to propose an architecture unifying not only Software Engineering and Big Data activities, but also batch and streaming architectures for the exploitation of massive data. This architecture has the advantage of making possible the development of applications and digital services exploiting very large volumes of data in real time;both for management needs and for analytical purposes. This architecture was tested on COVID-19 data as part of the development of an application for real-time monitoring of the evolution of the pandemic in Côte d’Ivoire using PostgreSQL, ELasticsearch, Kafka, Kafka Connect, niFi, Spark, node-Red and MoleculerJS to operationalize the architecture.

Influence of the Year and Growing Area on Maize (Zea mays L.) Production in the Central and north-Central Zones of Côte d’Ivoire (Departments of Bouake and Katiola)

Several studies conducted in recent years in Côte d’Ivoire reveal that agriculture is increasingly affected by the adverse effects of climate variability. The present study aims at evaluating the effect of the zone and the year of cultivation on the productivity of maize in the Central and north-Central zones of Cote d’Ivoire. It was carried out for two years (2020 and 2021). The experimental design used was a completely randomized block design with three replications. Observations were made on 12 agronomic parameters (plant size, internode size, collar diameter, number of leaves, number of internodes, cob insertion level, cob length, cob diameter, total kernels, cob dry weight, kernel dry weight, yield). The results showed that all agronomic traits of maize were significantly influenced by locality, except for the number of leaves. The highest values of the traits were observed in the locality of Bouaké. However, the year of cultivation did not influence the agronomic parameters of maize. This study will help to avoid yield decreases due to rainfall disturbances as a consequence of climate change.
