Competitive interactions between invasive fall armyworm and Asian corn borer at intraspecific and interspecific level on the same feeding guild

Interspecific competition is an important factor in the population dynamics and geographical distribution of insect *** armyworm(FAW),Spodoptera frugiperda,an invasive species,and the Asian corn borer(ACB),Ostrinia furnacalis,a native pest species are major pests on maize in China,posing a threat to maize yield and grain quality.A series of laboratory,greenhouse,and field experiments were conducted to elucidate the competitive interactions between FAW and *** the laboratory experiments,FAW exhibited aggressive behaviors more frequently when compared with ACB,while the latter species exhibited defense behaviors more *** intraspecific competition was recorded in the FAW conspecific rather than in ACB,particularly in the 6th larval *** had a higher interspecific competitive advantage through intraguild predation over ACB,resulting in partial or complete displacement ACB when initially the ratio of the 2 species was 1:*** interspecific competition also had significantly influenced on the population parameters,defensive enzymes,and nutrient of these 2 *** interaction proved that the response of superoxide,catalase,and soluble protein in FAW were significantly increased,whereas the total sugar content in both species was substantially *** rate,and the plant damage that co-infested by both species varied significantly among the sequential combinations under greenhouse and field *** consistently exhibited stronger intraspecific aggression than ACB under laboratory and field conditions when co-existing on the same feeding *** findings contribute to efforts toward the improvement of integrated pest management programs for FAW,in decision mak.ng for invasive and native pests’management strategies to reduce the high risk. of FAW and ACB outbreak..

Since the Cenozoic,the Tibetan Plateau has experienced large-scale uplift and outgrowth due to the India-Asia ***,the mechanism and timing of these tectonic processes still remain ***,using apatite fission track.dating and inverse thermal modeling,we explore the mechanism of different phases of rapid cooling for different batholiths and intrusions in the southeastern Tibetan *** contrast to previous views,we find that the coeval granitic batholith exposed in the same tectonic zone experienced differential fast uplift in different sites,indicating that the present Tibetan Plateau was the result of differential uplift rather than the entire lithosphere uplift related to lithospheric collapse during Cenozoic *** addition,we also suggest that the 5-2 Ma mantle-related magmatism should be regarded as the critical trigger for the widely coeval cooling event in the southeastern Tibetan Plateau,because it led to the increase in atmospheric CO_(2)level and a hotter upper crust than before,which are efficient for suddenly fast rock.weathering and ***,we propose that the current landform of the southeastern Tibetan Plateau was the combined influences of tectonic and climate.

Purpose:To evaluate whether transpupillary thermotherapy(TTT)reduces the risk.of moderate visual loss in patients with occult choroidal neovascularization(CNV)secondary to agerelated macular degeneration(AMD).Methods:A group of 25 patients were recruited and randomized in to TTT or placebo *** were included if they had a subfoveal purely or predominantly(> 50%)occult CNV secondary to AMD with best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)of 6/60 or better and the lesion was not larger than 4.5 *** was carried out using an 810-nm Oculight diode laser with a fixed spot size covering the whole lesion according to the standard *** same procedure was used for the control group,except that the power was set at *** patients were followed up at 6 week.,3 months and then every 6 months for up to 2 years.A maximum of three treatments were administered in both groups if there was evidence of persistent leak.ge from ***:At the 12-month follow-up,there was no significant difference in the mean values for BCVA distance and near or contrast sensitivity between the treatment and control *** Mann-Whitney test was used to assess the differences in BCVA and contrast sensitivity between the groups,both at baseline and at the 12-month *** statistically significant difference was found;both groups lost on average two lines of ***:Transpupillary thermotherapy appeared to have been of no benefit in preventing further visual loss in patients with occult CNV in this pilot study.

Design and Development of Composite Plywood that Integrates Fire Resistance,Water Resistance and Wear Resistance

In order to improve the fire resistance,water resistance and wear resistance of ordinary plywood products in the wood processing industry,three composite structures of plywood products S1,S2 and S3 were designed in this paper,and a reasonable production process was *** the physical and mechanical properties and fire resistance testing and technical and economic analysis,the applicability of composite plywood was *** results of the study showed that the physical mechanics of the three k.nds of composite structure plywood met the standard requirements,and their fire resistance was far better than that of ordinary *** them,the S1 structural board had the best overall physical and mechanical *** S3 structural board showed the best fire resistance,which was about 1.9 times more than that of ordinary plywood,and the added cost was the *** thin cork.board added to the S2 structural board had poor fire performance since the air in the cork.board cavities had a certain combustion-supporting effect,which inhibited the fire resistance of high-pressure laminate(HPL)***,the additional cost of the S2 board was the highest,and its comprehensive performance was the *** S3 structural plywood product composed of HPL fireproof board with a thick.ess of about 1 mm in the surface layer and ordinary plywood with a thick.ess of about 12 mm in the core layer was the most cost-effective product,which could meet the needs of various fields such as construction,home furnishing,decoration and transportation.

Paw San Hmwe （PSM） rice has been cultivated in many areas of Myanmar for a long time. Strong aroma, good taste and its elongation during cook.ng are the k.y characteristics of PSM rice. Thirty-one PSM accessions were genotypically characterized, and their physical grain and cook.ng quality traits were studied. We used specific gene mark.rs associated with aroma, apparent amylose content （AAC） and alk.li spreading value to determine the alleles carried by different PSM accessions. The results revealed that six PSM accessions （PSM10, PSM12, PSM13, PSM21, PSM22 and PSM30） had a 3-bp insertion in Os2AP gene. Gel consistency （GC） allele was predominant among the PSM accessions for gelatinization temperature （GT）, however, the phenotype observed was between low and intermediate GT because of the combination of the GC allele with the presence of low GT allele at heterozygous state from the other loci of the SSIla gene. Intermediate to high AAC was observed among the PSM accessions corresponding to the haplotype identified for the single nucleotide polymorphism G/T and the （Cm）n repeat in the Wx gene. The characterization and grouping data of PSM accessions posted benefits to Myanmar seed bank., and our results will help in maintaining the integrity of PSM rice variety.

Use of Asian selected agricultural byproducts to modulate rumen microbes and fermentation

In the last five decades, attempts have been made to improve rumen fermentation and host animal nutrition through modulation of rumen microbiota. The goals have been decreasing methane production, partially inhibiting protein degradation to avoid excess release of ammonia, and activation of fiber digestion. The main approach has been the use of dietary supplements. Since growth-promoting antibiotics were banned in European countries in2006, safer alternatives including plant-derived materials have been explored. Plant oils, their component fatty acids,plant secondary metabolites and other compounds have been studied, and many originate or are abundantly available in Asia as agricultural byproducts. In this review, the potency of selected byproducts in inhibition of methane production and protein degradation, and in stimulation of fiber degradation was described in relation to their modes of action. In particular, cashew and gink.o byproducts containing alk.lphenols to mitigate methane emission and bean husk. as a source of functional fiber to boost the number of fiber-degrading bacteria were highlighted. Other byproducts influencing rumen microbiota and fermentation profile were also described. Future application of these feed and additive candidates is very dependent on a sufficient, cost-effective supply and optimal usage in feeding practice.

Induction of antitumor immunity against mouse carcinoma by baculovirus-infected dendritic cells

A dendritic cell(DC)vaccine strategy has been developed as a new cancer immunotherapy,but the goal of complete tumor eradication has not yet been *** have previously shown that baculoviruses potently infect DCs and induce antitumor immunity against hepatomas in a mouse ***-infected,bone marrow-derived DCs(BMDCs)display increased surface expression of costimulatory molecules,such as CD80,CD86 and major histocompatibility complex(MHC)classes I and II,and secrete interferons and other proinflammatory *** this study,we evaluated the induction of antitumor immunity in mice by baculovirus-infected BMDCs against lung cancer and *** treatment with baculovirus-infected BMDCs,murine lung tumors caused by Lewis lung carcinoma(LLC)cells were significantly reduced in size,and the survival of the mice was *** addition,experiments using a melanoma mouse model showed that baculovirus-infected BMDCs inhibited tumor growth and improved survival compared with *** alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST)and creatinine levels remained normal in baculovirus-infected BMDC-treated *** findings show that baculovirus-infected DCs induce antitumor immunity and pave the way for the use of this technique as an effective tool for DC immunotherapy against malignancies.

Qualitative Analysis of a Belousov–Zhabotinsk.i Reaction Model

This paper deals with one k.nd of Belousov-Zhabotinsk.i reaction model. Linear stability is discussed for the spatially homogeneous problem firstly. Then we focus on the stationary problem with diffusion. Non-existence and existence of non-constant positive solutions are obtained by using implicit function theorem and Leray-Sehauder degree theory, respectively.

Polycalin is involved in the action mechanism of Cry2Aa toxin in Helicoverpa armigera(Hübner)

Receptor proteins on the brush border membrane of the insect midgut epithelium are involved in the mode of action of insecticidal Cry proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt). Polycalin has been identified as a binding protein of the Bt Cry1 Ac toxin in several Lepidoptera including Helicoverpa armigera, but its role in the action mechanism of Cry2 Aa is still unclear. In this study, we investigated the binding characteristics of polycalin from the midgut of H. armigera with Cry2 Aa and its role in the toxicity of Cry2 Aa. The results demonstrated that heterologously expressed H. armigera polycalin peptide could bind with Cry2 Aa with high affinity(k.d=32 nmol L^(–1)). The toxicity of Cry2 Aa decreased by 27% after H. armigera larvae ingested polycalin antisera. These results suggested that polycalin could be a potential functional receptor for Cry2 Aa, and it plays an important role in the susceptibility of H. armigera to Cry2 Aa.
