BACKgROUND Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)constitutes a substantial risk factor for colorectal *** 43(Cx43)is a protein that forms gap junction(gJ)complexes involved in intercellular communication,and its expression is altered under pathological conditions,such as IBD and *** studies have implicated epigenetic processes modulating DNA methylation in the pathogenesis of diverse inflammatory and malignant *** ten-eleven translocation-2(TET-2)enzyme catalyzes the demethylation,hence,regulating the activity of various cancer-promoting and tumor-suppressor *** To investigate Cx43 and TET-2 expression levels and presence of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine(5-hmC)marks under inflammatory conditions both in vitro and in *** TET-2 expression was evaluated in parental HT-29 cells and in HT-29 cells expressing low or high levels of Cx43,a putative tumor-suppressor gene whose expression varies in IBD and colorectal cancer,and which has been implicated in the inflammatory process and in tumor *** dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis model was reproduced in BALB/c mice to evaluate the expression of TET-2 and Cx43 under inflammatory conditions in *** addition,archived colon tissue sections from normal,IBD(ulcerative colitis),and sporadic colon adenocarcinoma patients were obtained and evaluated for the expression of TET-2 and *** levels were reported at the transcriptional level by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction,and at the translational level by Western blotting and *** Under inflammatory conditions,Cx43 and TET-2 expression levels increased compared to noninflammatory ***-2 upregulation was more pronounced in Cx43-deficient ***,colon tissue sections from normal,ulcerative colitis,and sporadic colon adenocarcinoma patients corroborated that Cx43 expression increased in IBD and decreased in adenocarcinoma,compared to tissues from non-IBD ***,TET-2

Tribological Characterization of Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites Processed by Powder Metallurgy

Aluminum （Al）-based aluminum oxide （Al2O3） and silicon carbide （SIC） particles hybrid metal matrix com- posites were processed by powder metallurgy technique, followed by sintering at 500 ℃ and then hot extrusion. The tribological properties of these composites with different weight fractions of Al2O3 and SiC were investigated; extrusion process significantly reduces the extent of porosity after cold compaction and sintering processes. Hybridization of the two reinforcements improved hardness and wear resistance of the composites. With an increase in SiC content, hardness was increased and consequently the wear resistance was enhanced also. Scanning electron microscopy observations show a better interfacial bond between matrix and reinforcements and a better distribution of the reinforcements.

The properties of γ-ray-reduced graphene oxide samples(gRgOs)were compared with those of hydrazine hydrate-reduced graphene oxide(HRgO).Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray diffractometry,Raman spectroscopy,Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area analysis,thermogravimetric analysis,electrometry,and cyclic voltammetry were carried out to verify the reduction process,structural changes,and defects of the samples,as well as to measure their thermal,electrical,and electrochemical *** with γ-rays distorted the structure of gRgOs and generated massive defects through the extensive formation of new smaller sp^(2)-hybridized domains compared with those of *** thermal stability of gRgOs was higher than that of HRgO,indicating the highly efficient removal of thermally-labile oxygen species by γ-*** prepared at 80 kgy showed a pseudocapacitive behavior comparable with the electrical double-layer capacitance behavior of ***,the specific capacitance of gRgO was enhanced by nearly three times compared with that of *** results reflect the advantages of radiation reduction in energy storage applications.

The development of ultralightweight expanded perlite-based thermal insulation panel using alkali activator solution

The International Energy Agency(IEA)states that global energy consumption will increase by 53%by *** has 70%of the world’s perlite reserves,and in order to reduce energy consumption a thermal insulation panel was developed in Turkey using different particle sizes of expanded perlite(EP).In this study,0–1.18 mm(powder)and 0–3 mm(granular)EP particle sizes were selected,since they have the lowest thermal conductivity coefficients among all the particle *** addition,an alkali activator solution was used as a binder in the *** alkaline activator solution was obtained by mixing sodium hydroxide solution(6,8,10,and 12 mol·L−1)and sodium silicate(Module 3)at the different ratios of Na2SiO3 to NaOH of 1,1.5,2,and *** study aimed to experimentally determine the optimum binder and distribution ratio of EP,with the lowest coefficient of thermal conductivity and the lowest *** lowest thermal conductivity and the lowest density were determined as 0.04919 W·m−1·K−1 and 133.267 kg/m3,respectively,in the sample prepared with 83.33%powder-size EP,6 mol·L−1 sodium hydroxide solution,and ratio of Na2SiO3 to NaOH of *** density,thermal conductivity,and compressive strength of the sample showed the same trends of behavior when the Na2SiO3 to NaOH ratio was *** addition,the highest compressive strength was measured in 12 mol·L−1 NaOH concentration regardless of particle *** conclusion,the study predicts that the EP-based thermal insulation panel can be used as an insulation material in the construction industry according to the TS825 Thermal Insulation Standard.

Estimation of radiation hazard indices from natural radioactivity of some rocks

Different samples of igneous and metamorphic rocks from Egypt and germany have been considered to measure γ-ray activity concentrations due to naturally occurring, potentially hazardous radonuclides 226Ra, 232Th and 40K. The radiation hazard parameters including radiation equivalent activity, gamma-absorbed dose rate, and exter- nal and internal hazard indices have been estimated. The gamma-absorbed dose rates in air of rocks in Egypt range from 4.2 to 128.5 ngy·h-1 with a mean value of 55.3 ngy·h-1. For igneous and metamorphic rocks from germany, the values of absorbed dose rates fluctuate from 5.1 to 148.6 ngy·h-1, with a mean value of 60.9 ngy·h-1. generally, it is found that the radiation hazard indices in common igneous rocks are distinctly higher in acidic than in ultrabasic rocks. The results are discussed and compared with the corresponding published data.

Magnesium and aluminum alloys continually attract interest as lightweight structural materials for transport applications. However, joining these dissimilar alloys is very challenging. The main obstacle that hinders progress in dissimilar Mg-Al joining is the formation of brittle intermetallic compounds(IMCs). As a solid-state joining technique, FSW is an excellent candidate to attenuate the deleterious IMC effects in dissimilar Al-Mg joining due to the inherent low heat inputs involved in the process. However, the IMCs, namely Al_(3)Mg_(2) and Al_(12)Mg_(17) phases, have also been reported to form during Al-Mg dissimilar FSW;their amount and thickness depend on the heat input involved;thus,the weld parameters used. Since the heat dissipated in the material during the welding process significantly affects the amount of IMCs,the heat input during FSW should be kept as low as possible to control and reduce the amount of IMCs. This review aims to critically discuss and evaluate the studies conducted in the dissimilar Al/Mg FSW through a scientometric analysis and also with a focus on the strategies recently applied to enhance joint quality. The scientometric analysis showed that the main research directions in Mg/Al FSW are the technological weldability of aluminum and magnesium during FSW, structural morphology, and mechanical properties of dissimilar welded joints. Considering the scope of application of the aforementioned joints, the low share of articles dealing with environmental degradation and operational cracking is surprising. This might be attributed to the need for well-developed strategies for obtaining high-quality and sustainable joints for applications. Thus, the second part of this review is conventional, focusing mainly on the new strategies for obtaining high-quality Mg/Al joints. The results of the metal-insulator transition （MIT） induced by impurity concentration are presented in the case of metallic and insulating samples 70ge：ga p-type. The eight samples studied have ga concentrations N ranging from 1.848 × 1017 to 1.912 × 10^17 cm-3. The conductivity measurements were carried out at low temperature in the range 1 to 0.019 K. We provide physical explanations to explain the behaviors of the temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity in both sides of the MIT. The data are for a 70ge：ga sample prepared and reported by Itoh et aL in Ref. [Itoh K M, Watanabe M, Ootuka Y, et al. J Phys Soc Jpn, 2004, 73（1）： 173].

Variable range hopping conduction in n-CdSe samples at very low temperature

We reanalyzed experimental data already published in Friedman J R, Zhang Y, Dai P, et al. Phys Rev B, 1996, 53（15）： 9528. Variable range hopping （VRH） conduction in the insulating three-dimensional n-CdSe samples has been studied over the entire temperature range from 0.03 to 1 K. In the absence of a magnetic field, the low temperature conductivity a of the three samples （A, B and C） obeys the Mott VRH conduction with an appropriate temperature dependence in the prefactor （a = σ0 exp [- （T0/T）]^p with p ≈ 0.25）. This behavior can be explained by a VRH model where the transport occurs by hopping between localized states in the vicinity of the Fermi level, EF, without creation of the Coulomb gap （Cg）. On the contrary, no Efros-Shklovskii VRH is observed, suggesting that the density is constant in the vicinity of the EF.
