Humans are limited in their ability to perform multiple cognitive-motor tasks in parallel. In eight participants, we examined whether transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to dorsal premotor cortex (PMD) could attenuate a delay of reaction time (RT) while the participants responded to two visual stimuli presented in temporally close succession. We provided anodal, cathodal, or sham tDCS while the participants performed a task requiring two choice responses or a control task requiring two fixed responses. When the interval between the two stimuli was shorter, the RTs were delayed in both tasks, but anodal tDCS shortened them only in the former task, probably by promoting the response selection function of PMD. Non-invasive neuro-modulation to the brain can boost human ability to multi-task.

Metabolic syndrome is a long-term complication of systemic chemotherapy for testicular germ cell tumor(TGCT).It is believed to be caused by secondary hypogonadism or toxic medicines because of orchidectomy followed by systemic *** this study,changes in the body composition of patients over time were quantitatively analyzed up to 24 months after *** study retrospectively analyzed 44 patients with TGCT who underwent chemotherapy at our institution from January 2008 to December *** and visceral fat areas and psoas and skeletal muscle areas were measured by computed tomography before and immediately after chemotherapy as well as 3 months,6 months,12 months,and 24 months after *** subcutaneous and visceral fat indices and psoas and skeletal muscle indices were calculated as each area divided by body height *** total fat area had already significantly increased 3 months after the initiation of chemotherapy(P=0.004).However,it did not return to prechemotherapeutic levels even at 24 months after *** skeletal muscle area was significantly decreased at the end of chemotherapy(P<0.001);however,the value returned to baseline within 12 *** multivariable analysis,the prechemotherapeutic skeletal muscle index and number of chemotherapy cycles were independently associated with the reduction of skeletal muscle at the end of chemotherapy(P=0.001 and P=0.027,respectively).In patients with TGCT,skeletal muscle mass decreased during chemotherapy and recovered within 12 months,whereas fat mass progressively increased from the initiation of chemotherapy until 24 months after chemotherapy.

Laparoscopic and endoscopic co-operative surgery for nonampullary duodenal tumors

AIM To assess the safety and feasibility of laparoscopic and endoscopic co-operative surgery(LECS) for early nonampullary duodenal *** Twelve patients with a non-ampullary duodenal tumor underwent LECS at our hospital. One patient had two mucosal lesions in the duodenum. The indication for this procedure was the presence of duodenal tumors with a low risk for lymph node metastasis. In particular, the tumors included small(less than 10 mm) submucosal tumors(SMT) and epithelial mucosal tumors, such as mucosal cancers or large mucosal adenomas with malignant suspicion. The LECS procedures, such as full-thickness dissection for SMT and laparoscopic reinforcement after endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) for epithelial tumors, were performed for the 13 early duodenal lesions in 12 patients. Here we present the short-term outcomes and evaluate the safety and feasibility of this new *** Two SMT-like lesions and eleven superficial epithelial tumor-like lesions were observed. Seven and Six lesions were located in the second and third parts of the duodenum, respectively. All lesions were successfully resected en bloc. The defect in the duodenal wall was manually sutured after resection of the duodenal SMT. For epithelial duodenal tumors, the ulcer bed was laparoscopically reinforced via manual suturing after ESD. Intraoperative perforation occurred in two out of eleven epithelial tumor-like lesions during ESD; however, they were successfully laparoscopically repaired. The median operative time and intraoperative estimated blood loss were 322 min and 0 mL, respectively. Histological examination of the tumors revealed one adenoma with moderate atypia, ten adenocarcinomas, and two neuroendocrine tumors. No severe postoperative complications(Clavien-Dindo classification grade Ⅲ or higher) were reported in this series, but minor leakage secondary to pancreatic fistula occurred in one *** LECS can be a safe and minimally invasive treatment

AIM: To investigate the protective effect of lansoprazoleon ischemia and reperfusion (I/R)-induced rat intestinalmucosal injury in ***: Intestinal damage was induced by clampingboth the superior mesenteric artery and the celiac trunkfor 30 rain followed by reperfusion in male Sprague-Dawleyrats. lansoprazole was given to rats intraperitoneally 1 hbefore vascular ***: Both the intraluminal hemoglobin and proteinlevels, as indices of mucosal damage, significantlyincreased in I/R-groups comparion with those of sham-operation groups. These increases in intraluminal hemoglobinand protein levels were significantly inhibited by the treatmentwith lansoprazole at a dose of 1 mg/kg. Small intestineexposed to I/R resulted in mucosal inflammation that wascharacterized by significant increases in thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS), tissue-associatedmyeloperoxidase activity (MPO), and mucosal content of ratcytokine-induced neutrophil chemoattractant-1 (CINC-1).These increases in TBARS, MPO activities and CINC-1 contentin the intestinal mucosa after I/R were all inhibited bypretreatment with lansoprazole at a dose of 1 mg/***, the CINC-1 mRNA expression was increasedduring intestinal I/R, and this increase in mRNA expressionwas inhibited by treatment with ***: Lansoprazole inhibits lipid peroxidation andreduces development of intestinal mucosal inflammationinduced by I/R in rats, suggesting that lansoprazole mayhave a therapeutic potential for I/R injury.

Phosphate (PO43-) and Nitrate (NO3-) are two main nutrients that cause water eutrophication. In the other hand, the presence of PO43- and NO3- is needed for plant growth. The aims of this study are to recycle Spent Coffee Ground (SCG) modified with calcium hydroxide for adsorption PO43- and NO3-. The optimum adsorption capacity for PO43- and NO3- is 36.74 mg/L and 20.21 mg/L, respectively. The Freundlich isotherm model was suitable for PO43- and NO3- adsorption. The kinetic model for adsorption was linear using Pseudo-second order. The application of modified SCG after enrichment with PO43-

In this paper we study the traffic states and jams in vehicular traffic merging and bifurcating at a junction on a two-lane highway. The two-lane traffic model for the vehicular motion at the junction is presented where a jam occurs frequently due to merging, lane changing, and bifurcating. The traffic flow is called the weaving. At the weaving section, vehicles slow down and then move aside on the other lane for changing their direction. We derive the fundamental diagrams (flow-density diagrams) for the weaving traffic flow. The traffic states vary with the density, slowdown speed, and the fraction of vehicles changing the lane. The dynamical phase transitions occur. It is shown that the fundamental diagrams depend highly on the traffic states.

A transport simulation has been done by using a i.5D time dependent transportcode to reproduce a formation of the ITB on electron temperature Profile during the long pu1seLHCD in JT-60U tokamak. The transport coefficients were assumed to reduce with a reversedmagnetic shear and the LH driven current profile was evaluated by fitting dynamic change inthe measured current profile. The gradual increase in the central electron temperature could beexplained by the change in the current profile during LHCD in the present simulation model. Theestimated LH-driven current profile by the transport code analysis shows a finite current densityat the plasma center. Analysis of transport simulation suggests some mechanisms for broadeningthe LH-driven current profile at the central region of the plasma.
