Effect of age on the standardized ileal amino acid digestibility of soybean meal and canola meal in broilers

Standardized ileal digestibility coefficients(SIDC)of nitrogen(N)and amino acids(AA)in two protein sources(soybean meal[SBM]and canola meal[CM])were investigated at six broiler ages(d 7,14,21,28,35,and 42).Two assay diets were formulated to contain either SBM(413 g/kg)or CM(553 g/kg)as the sole dietary AA *** dioxide(5 g/kg)was added as an indigestible marker.A total of 696 male broilers at 1 d old were allotted to 12 replicate cages per age *** assay diet was offered to birds for 4 d prior to the ileal digesta collection on d 7(14 birds/cage),14(12 birds/cage),21(10 birds/cage),28(8 birds/cage),35(8 birds/cage)and 42(6 birds/cage),*** apparent digestibility coefficients were standardized using age-specific basal endogenous AA *** the SBM group,though the SIDC of N tended to be influenced(quadratic;P=0.075)by age,no linear or quadratic response of age effect was observed on the average SIDC of indispensable(IAA)and total AA(TAA).An age effect(quadratic;P<0.05)was observed on the average SIDC of dispensable AA(DAA)in SBM with the highest value recorded at d 7,followed by a decrease from d 14 to 28,which increased beyond d *** SIDC of some individual AA(Arg,Thr,Trp,Cys,Pro)were affected(P<0.05 or P<0.001)in a quadratic manner by *** the CM,the SIDC of N,average SIDC of IAA,DAA and TAA were influenced(quadratic;P<0.05 or P<0.001)by *** SIDC of N and average SIDC of DAA and TAA were higher from d 7 to 14,declined at d 21,and then increased beyond d *** average SIDC of IAA was low between d 7 and 28 and increased *** SIDC of individual AA were affected(linear or quadratic;P<0.05 or P<0.001)by different magnitudes by *** age influence on the SIDC AA was variable,depending on the protein source and *** results demonstrate that age-specific SIDC AA data might need consideration in broiler feed formulations.

Assessing the pomfret stock for setting catch limits in the northern Bay of Bengal,Bangladesh

Pampus argenteus and Pampus chinensis form the high-value demersal Pomfret fishery of ***,due to a monotonic decline in catches over the last five years,it is essential to explore the current stock status concerning the removal rate to ensure the sustainability of this ***,given the reliability and minimal data requirements,this study employed an extended Bayesian State-Space Surplus Production Model,JABBA(Just Another Bayesian Biomass Assessment),to assess the stock *** results revealed that the stock biomass of the Pomfret fishery in the final year of the time series is significantly lower than BMSY,the biomass required to produce ***,this study recommends a yearly catch limit(TAC)of 10,000 metric tons to prevent further depletion of the stock ***,to avoid growth overfishing by allowing all immature fishes to reproduce at least once before being caught,this study also calculated the optimum length(Lopt)for catch for both species at which biologically maximum yield and revenue can be *** estimated Lopt is 25 cm for *** and 30 cm for ***,and not to capture fishes with lengths lower than these limits,this study further calculated the minimum mesh size limits for gill and set bag nets is 7.5 *** the mesh size regulation was estimated using length-based reference points derived from an empirical equation,this regulation can be used as an associate reference point when TAC is applied to assure the sustainability of this fishery.

Factors Affecting Vulnerability of Ready-Made Garment Factory Buildings in Bangladesh: An Assessment Under Vertical and Earthquake Loads

The importance of workplace safety in the ready-made garment(RMG) industry in Bangladesh came to the forefront after a series of disastrous events in recent years. In order to reduce the loss of lives and to ensure sustainable development, an in-depth understanding of the determining factors governing structural vulnerability in the RMG industry is needed. This research explores the key factors influencing the vulnerability of factory buildings under both vertical and earthquake loads. For this purpose,an ordered probit model was applied to 3746 RMG factory buildings to determine the key factors that influenced their vertical load vulnerability. A smaller subset of the original sample, 478 buildings, was examined by the same modeling method in greater detail to assess the key factors that influenced their earthquake load vulnerability. This research reveals that column capacity, structural system,and construction materials are the most influential factors for both types of vulnerabilities. Among other factors, soil liquefaction and irregular internal frame affect earthquake load vulnerability significantly. These findings are expected to enable factory owners and designers to better weigh the appropriate vulnerability factors in order to make informed decision that increase workplace safety. Theresearch findings will also help the designated authorities to conduct successful inspections of factory buildings and take actions that reduce vulnerability to both vertical and earthquake loads.

Properties of boron doped ZnO films prepared by reactive sputtering method: Application to amorphous silicon thin film solar cells

Reactive sputtered boron-doped zinc oxide(BZO) film was deposited from argon,hydrogen and boron gas *** reactive sputtering technique provides us the flexibility of changing the boron concentration in the produced films by using the same intrinsic zinc oxide *** surface was obtained in the as-deposited *** surface morphology and the opto-electronic properties of the films can be controlled by simply varying the gas concentration *** varying the gas concentration ratio,the best obtained resistivity ~6.51×10^-4Ω-cm,mobility ~19.05 cm^2 V^-1 s^-1 and sheet resistance ~7.23Ω/□ were *** lower wavelength of light,the response of the deposited films improves with the increase of boron in the gas mixture and the overall transmission in the wavelength region 350-1100 nm of all the films are>85 %.We also fabricated amorphous silicon(a-Si) thin film solar cell on the best obtained BZO *** overall efficiency of the a-Si solar cell is 8.14 %,found on optimized BZO layer.

Variation in Heat-shock Proteins and Photosynthetic Thermotolerance among Natural Populations of Chenopodium album *** Contrasting Thermal Environments:Implications for Plant Responses to Global Warming

Production of heat-shock proteins （Hsps） is a key adaptation to acute heat stress and will be important in determining plant responses to climate change. Further, intraspecifc variation in Hsps, which will influence species-level response to global warming, has rarely been examined in naturally occurring plants. To understand intraspecific variation in plant Hsps and its relevance to global warming, we examined Hsp content and thermotolerance in five naturally occurring populations of Chenopodium album L. from contrasting thermal environments grown at low and high temperatures. As expected, Hsp accumulation varied between populations, but this was related more to habitat variability than to mean temperature. Unexpectedly, Hsp accumulation decreased with increasing variability of habitat temperatures. Hsp accumulation also decreased with increased experimental growth temperatures. Physiological thermotolerance was partitioned into basal and induced components. As with Hsps, induced thermotolerance decreased with increasing temperature variability. Thus, populations native to the more stressful habitats, or grown at higher temperatures, had lower Hsp levels and induced thermotolerance, suggesting a greater reliance on basal mechanisms for thermotolerance. These results suggest that future global climate change will differentially impact ecotypes within species, possibly by selecting for increased basal versus inducible thermotolerance.

A Parallel Adaptive Treecode Algorithm for Evolution of Elastically Stressed Solids

The evolution of precipitates in stressed solids is modeled by coupling a quasi-steady diffusion equation and a linear elasticity equation with dynamic boundary *** governing equations are solved numerically using a boundary integral method(BIM).A critical step in applying BIM is to develop fast algorithms to reduce the arithmetic operation count of matrix-vector *** this paper,we develop a fast adaptive treecode algorithm for the diffusion and elasticity problems in two dimensions(2D).We present a novel source dividing strategy to parallelize the *** results show that the speedup factor is nearly perfect up to a moderate number of *** approach of parallelization can be readily implemented in other treecodes using either uniform or non-uniform point *** demonstrate the effectiveness of the treecode by computing the long-time evolution of a complicated microstructure in elastic media,which would be extremely difficult with a direct summation method due to CPU time *** treecode speeds up computations dramatically while fulfilling the stringent precision requirement dictated by the spectrally accurate BIM.

Elevated Liver Enzymes along with Comorbidity Is a High Risk Factor for COVID-19 Mortality:A South Indian Study on 1,512 Patients

Background and Aims:Liver enzyme abnormalities in coronavirus 2019(COVID-19)are being addressed in the *** predictive risk of elevated liver enzymes has not been established for COVID-19 *** this study,we hypothesized that elevated liver enzymes at ad-mission can predict the outcome of COVID-19 disease with other known indicators,such as ***:This retrospective study included all the consecutive hos-pitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 disease from March 4th to May 31st,*** study was conducted in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital,Chennai,Ta-mil Nadu,*** assessed demography,clinical vari-ables,COVID-19 severity,laboratory parameters,and ***:We included 1,512 patients,and median age was 47 years(interquartile range:34-60)with 36.9%being *** enzyme level(aspartate aminotrans-ferase and/or alanine aminotransferase)was elevated in 450/1,512(29.76%)*** was present in 713/1,512(47.16%)*** with liver enzymes’elevation and presence of comorbidity were older,more frequently hospitalized in ICU and had more severe symp-toms of COVID-19 at the time of *** of liver enzymes’elevation with comorbidity was a high risk factor for death(OR:5.314,95%CI:2.278-12.393),as compared to patients with presence of comorbidity(OR:4.096,95%CI:1.833-9.157).Conclusions:Comorbid-ity combined with liver enzymes’elevation at presentation independently increased the risk of death in COVID-19 by at least 5-fold.

Interactive Effects of Elevated CO_2 and Growth Temperature on the Tolerance of Photosynthesis to Acute Heat Stress in C_3 and C_4 Species

Determining effects of elevated CO2 on the tolerance of photosynthesis to acute heat-stress （heat wave） is necessary for predicting plant responses to global warming, as photosynthesis is thermolabile and acute heat-stress and atmospheric CO2 will increase in the future. Few studies have examined this, and past results are variable, which may be due to methodological variation. To address this, we grew two C3 and two C4 species at current or elevated CO2 and three different growth temperatures （GT）. We assessed photosynthetic thermotolerance in both unacclimated （basal tolerance） and preheat-stressed （preHS = acclimated） plants. In C3 species, basal thermotolerance of net photosynthesis （Pn） was increased in high CO2, but in C4 species, Pn thermotlerance was decreased by high CO2 （except Zea mays at low GT）; CO2 effects in preHS plants were mostly small or absent, though high CO2 was detrimental in one C3 and one C4 species at warmer GT. Though high CO2 generally decreased stomatal conductance, decreases in P, during heat stress were mostly due to non-stomatal effects. Photosystem Ⅱ （PSⅡ） efficiency was often decreased by high CO2 during heat stress, especially at high GT; CO2 effects on post-PSⅡ electron transport were variable. Thus, high CO2 often affected photosynthetic theromotolerance, and the effects varied with photosynthetic pathway, growth temperature, and acclimation state. Most importantly, in heat-stressed plants at normal or warmer growth temperatures, high CO2 may often decrease, or not benefit as expected, tolerance of photosynthesis to acute heat stress. Therefore, interactive effects of elevated CO2 and warmer growth temperatures on acute heat tolerance may contribute to future changes in plant productivity, distribution, and diversity.

An Efficient Rescaling Algorithm for Simulating the Evolution of Multiple Elastically Stressed Precipitates

In this paper,we propose a space-time rescaling scheme for computing the long time evolution of multiple precipitates in an elastically stressed *** algorithm is second order accurate in time,spectrally accurate in space and enables one to simulate the evolution of precipitates in a fraction of the time normally used by fixed-frame *** particular,we extend the algorithm recently developed for single particle by Li et al.(Li,Lowengrub and Leo,***.,335(2007),554)to the multiple particle case,which involves key differences in the *** results show that without elasticity there are successive tip splitting phenomena accompanied by the formation of narrow channels between the *** presence of applied elastic field,the precipitates form dendrite-like structures with the primary arms aligned in the principal directions of the elastic *** demonstrate that when the far-field flux decreaseswith the effective radius of the system,tip-splitting and dendrite formation can be suppressed,as in the one particle *** on the initial position of the precipitates,we further observe that some precipitates grow while others may shrink,even when a positive far field flux is applied.

Formation and Evolution of Galaxies: Starlight Synthesis Algorithm

This study will see the resurgence of interest in precise velocity dispersion measurements, both for the study of galactic and active nuclei kinematics. As several works suggest, an excellent tactic to measure σ is to use the absorption lines of the calcium triplet, as it is a spectral region relatively free from complications. The discovery of an empirical relationship between the mass of the central black hole (M•) and σ was the leading guide of my detailed study of the calcium triplet region. This search for more accurate methods to calculate the dispersion of velocities, in addition to the careful study of uncertainties. After investing so much time in the development and improvement of the method and its application to so many galaxies, it is time to reap the rewards of this effort, using my results to address a series of questions concerning the physics of galaxies.
