Effect of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)on the morphology and physical properties of poly(vinyl alcohol)/sodium montmorillonite nanocomposite films

Nanocomposites of poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA),poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)(PVP) and sodium montmorillonite(Na+MMT) were prepared by solution mixing and then cast into films.X-ray diffraction analysis and images of transmission electron microscopy establish the formation of PVA/Na+MMT intercalated *** and highly intercalated PVA/PVP/Na+MMT nanocomposite formed in the presence of *** of PVP in PVA/Na+MMT matrix enhances the hydrogen bonding interactions between PVA and Na+MMT and thus increases the mechanical properties and thermal stability of PVA/PVP/Na+MMT nanocomposites compared to PVA/Na+MMT *** interactions between PVA,PVP and Na+MMT were established by the Fourier transform infrared *** moisture absorption tendency of both the PVA and PVA/PVP films reduced after the incorporation of Na+MMT at 75%constant relative *** scanning calorimetry studies show that the presence of PVP and Na+MMT both are responsible for reducing the heat of fusion,and crystallinity of *** flow behavior of the PVA,PVA/PVP and its nanocomposite solutions has been also *** vapor permeability of PVA/PVP/Na+MMT composite films decreased in the presence of nanoclay due to increasing tortuous paths for diffusion.

A simple chemical method for the synthesis of Cu^(2+) engrafted MgAl_(2)O_(4) nanoparticles: Efficient fluoride adsorbents, photocatalyst and latent fingerprint detection

An adaptable, energy efficient chemical process is employed to synthesize Cu^2+engrafted MgAl2O4 nanoparticles(Mg1-xCuxAl2O4, x = 0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 abbreviated as MCA0, MCA1, MCA3,and MCA5 respectively), using chelating ligand and the calcination temperature was determined by the thermogravimetric analysis of the precursor *** acted as good fluoride adsorbent in the presence of co-ions, different pH(2–11) via chemisorption revealed from Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) and photodegraded Methylene Blue(MB).The satisfactory results were for MCA1(specific surface area 25.05 m^2/g) with 97%fluoride removal at pH 7.0 for the 10 mg/L initial fluoride concentration for 1.5 g/L adsorbent dose with 45 min contact time obeying the Langmuir isotherm model with negative thermodynamic parameters and 4 mmol of MCA3 with 98.51% photodegradation for 10-5 mol/L MB solution obeying pseudo-second-order and pseudo-first-order kinetics *** proposed photodegradation mechanism of MB was established by the FTIR and high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) *** nanoparticles are cubic, estimated through X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) *** band gap energies, grain size, and the effective working pH were estimated by diffuse reflectance spectra(DRS), scanning electron microscope(SEM), and zero-point potential analysis respectively.A soil candle with MCA1 also fabricated for the household purpose and tested with some fluorinated field *** MCA3 was able to enhance the latent fingerprint on smooth surfaces.

Numerical modeling of wave equation by a truncated high-order finite-difference method

Finite-difference methods with high-order accuracy have been utilized to improve the precision of numerical solution for partial differential equations. However, the computation cost generally increases linearly with increased order of accuracy. Upon examination of the finite-difference formulas for the first-order and second-order derivatives, and the staggered finite-difference formulas for the first-order derivative, we examine the variation of finite-difference coefficients with accuracy order and note that there exist some very small coefficients. With the order increasing, the number of these small coefficients increases, however, the values decrease sharply. An error analysis demonstrates that omitting these small coefficients not only maintain approximately the same level of accuracy of finite difference but also reduce computational cost significantly. Moreover, it is easier to truncate for the high-order finite-difference formulas than for the pseudospectral for- mulas. Thus this study proposes a truncated high-order finite-difference method, and then demonstrates the efficiency and applicability of the method with some numerical examples.

Preparation of reduced sensitivity co-crystals of cyclic nitramines using spray flash evaporation

The present day weapon technology demands novel energetic materials that exhibit simultaneous high explosive yield and reduced *** article demonstrates application of spray evaporation to prepare reduced sensitive co-crystals of high performance nitramine explosives like HMX and CL-20 with a relatively less insensitive explosive 1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethylene or *** intermolecurar hydrogen bonding in FOX-7 is responsible for limited solubility in nost of o rganic *** solubility differences of FOX-7 with HMX and CL-20 restricts ifs co-crystallization through classical methods that yields thermodynamically favorable *** flash evaporation,a kinetic crystallization method,has been therefore adopted and could successfully produce CL-20/FOX-7(2:1) and HMX/FQX-7(4:1) *** fine powdered materials obtained were characterized by SEM,powder XRD,Raman spectro scopy,DSC-TGA *** Raman spectra showed consistent occurrence of spectral features indicating stoichiometric co-existence of ingredients in the crystal *** analysis showed absence of all thermally assisted solidsolid phase transformation in the co-crystals as they were observed in pristine *** thermal stability calculated in terms of activation barrier fordecomposition,revealed the CL-20/FOX-7 co-crystal to be interlediately stable on comparison to their constituents while,the HMX/FOX-7 co-crystal is more *** to pure HMX and CL-20,both the co-crystals have shown higher insensitivity to impact force,suggesting them to be suitable for future generation insensitive munitions.
