Objective: To assess the seroprevalence and associated risk factors of toxoplasmosis among HIV patients in Agaro Town Health Center of Jimma zone. Methods: Convenient sampling was used to collect blood samples from 135 patients attending anti retroviral therapy from February to March 2015. Serum samples were tested for anti-Toxoplasma gondii(T. gondii) antibody by using latex agglutination test. Structured questionnaire was used to collect data on socio-demographic and risk factors associated with toxoplasmosis. Results: Overall seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis was 80.7%(109/135, CI: 74.04-87.36). In multivariate analysis significant association was observed between anti T. gondii seropositivity and raw meat consumption(OR: 3.514, CI: 1.167 10.581, P=0.025), knowledge about toxoplasmosis(OR: 5.225, CI: 1.382, P=0.015) and sex(OR: 4.023, CI: 1.382-19.762, P=0.015). Conclusions: Immuno compromised patients showed high rate of seropositivity and thus, it is highly advisable to introduce routine anti-T. gondii antibodies serological screening test prior to ART commencement.

Objective: To evaluate the in vivo antischistosomal activities of the crude extracts of Echinops kebericho Mesfin(E. kebericho) root and Hagenia abyssinica(Bruce) J.F. Gmel(H. abyssinica) flower. Methods: Mice were infected with(150 ± 10) Schistosoma mansoni cercariae by paddling technique. Crude extracts were administered orally for five consecutive days at doses of 300, 600 and 1 200 mg/kg/day along with 200 mg/kg/day praziquantel and 3% tween 80 given as a control. Results: E. kebericho root extract showed a statistically significant(P < 0.05) reduction in fecal egg count of 64.44%, 42.96% & 26.82% and worm burden of 65.71%, 47.86% & 31.43% at treatment doses of 1 200 mg/kg/day, 600 mg/kg/day and 300 mg/kg/day, respectively. Similarly, H. abyssinica flower extracts showed a significant(P < 0.05) reduction in fecal egg count up to 84.57%, 77.06% & 63.89% and worm burden of 91.43%, 81.43% & 70.71% at a respective dose levels. In addition, a significant(P < 0.05) reduction in liver granuloma score was observed in all H. abyssinica administered dose groups and E. kebericho at 1 200 mg/kg/day dose group as compared to infected untreated control group. Conclusions: H. abyssinica and E. kebericho crude extracts show a promising antischistosomal activity.

Many scientific fields increasingly use high-performance computing(HPC)to process and analyze massive amounts of experimental data while storage systems in today's HPC environments have to cope with new access patterns.These patterns include many metadata operations,small I/O requests,or randomized file I/O,while general-purpose parallel file systems have been optimized for sequential shared access to large files.Burst buffer file systems create a separate file system that applications can use to store temporary data.They aggregate node-local storage available within the compute nodes or use dedicated SSD clusters and offer a peak bandwidth higher than that of the backend parallel file system without interfering with it.However,burst buffer file systems typically offer many features that a scientific application,running in isolation for a limited amount of time,does not require.We present GekkoFS,a temporary,highly-scalable file system which has been specifically optimized for the aforementioned use cases.GekkoFS provides relaxed POSIX semantics which only offers features which are actually required by most(not all)applications.GekkoFS is,therefore,able to provide scalable I/O performance and reaches millions of metadata operations already for a small number of nodes,significantly outperforming the capabilities of common parallel file systems.

The Self-Organizing Map (SOM) is an unsupervised neural network algorithm that projects high-dimensional data onto a two-dimensional map. The projection preserves the topology of the data so that similar data items will be mapped to nearby locations on the map. One of the SOM neural network’s applications is clustering of animals due their features. In this paper we produce an experiment to analyze the SOM in clustering different species of animals.

在21世纪的发展中国家的城市中,棚户区迅速增长的现象不可避免。住房就像食物和衣服一样,是人类生存的基本必需品之一。但人类对住房的需求和供应存在不匹配的关系,城市地区的人不得不在棚户区中暂居。本研究评估了现状,棚户区聚落成因及其对城市基础设施建设的影响,并以埃塞俄比亚布拉尤市——位于奥罗米亚环芬内特别区——作为案例进行具体陈述。该研究运用定性和定量方法的混合方法,并完成了描述性研究设计。在调查中,样本总数为188名,调查者包括168户住民、20名专家和官员,采用概率抽样、简单随机抽样技术和非概率抽样、目的抽样技术,从不同情况中选出利益相关者、专家和官员。棚户区聚落居民面临提供服务的挑战。这主要是因为土地被非法占用,因此影响了服务的提供。缺乏基本需要和服务导致棚户区对环境产生影响。这包括卫生条件差,导致居民污染,使用木柴和生物质燃料照明,导致空气污染,进而助长温室气体排放。废物清除是非正规定居者争执的问题,它导致土地污染和新出现的传染病危害。此外,该研究还明确了棚户区聚落的积极影响,它们作为缩小住房供求差距的桥梁,对缓解住房问题起到了巨大的作用,也为那些无法获得正式住房用地的人创造了一个渠道。此外,棚户区的负面影响是,获得基础设施和服务的机会有限,住房条件差,没有所有权的保障,以及社会不安全和不稳定因素,还有洪水问题、选址不佳、土地使用不当等。市政当局还采取了措施,提高认识,口头警告,写警告信,并在不同时间在少数Kebeles进行拆除。最后,这项研究证实,即使棚户区在解决临时住房短缺方面发挥作用,棚户区的激增也导致了不同的社会经济和体制问题,阻碍了竞争力的提升。根据研究结果,建议提供负担得起的住房发展计划和战略,以及有效的城市基础设施和服务提供系统,以减少棚户区聚落的进一步扩大。

微型和小型企业已成为世界各国经济增长和发展的工具。难怪各国政府,尤其是发展中国家政府作出了巨大努力并制定了政策以提升微型和小型企业的实力。然而,尽管政府在制度和政策上支持提升中小企业的实力,但情况并未达到预期。因此,本研究的目的是调查影响埃塞俄比亚微型和小型企业绩效的因素。研究人员采用描述性研究设计,因为这种研究设计有助于解释目前存在状况的本质。在本研究中,使用了一手数据和二手数据。二手数据来自中小企业办公室的书面文件、不同的相关研究、书籍、出版和未出版的文献。为了收集一手数据,研究人员对布赖尤、塞贝塔、苏鲁塔和莱加塔夫镇的中小企业、中小企业机构和利益相关者进行了问卷调查和访谈。至于样本量,则是根据研究区域内运作的微型和小型企业总数来决定。研究采用统计学方法对其效度和信度进行了检验。研究结果表明,影响中小企业绩效的因素主要有基础设施不足、市场准入不畅、企业高效运营技术匮乏、法律及执照相关问题、企业家精神缺失、创业资金和营运资金不足等。强烈建议扭转这些因素,使中小企业为消除贫穷和确保埃塞俄比亚的可持续发展作出最大贡献。除此之外,政府还需要为微型和小型企业的发展实行严格的政策并提供更多的技术支持。与此同时,中小企业必须利用现有的机会,提升自身的创新能力、企业家精神和养成储蓄习惯。

The Addition of Midazolam Reduces the Incidence of Early Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting in Short Time Gynecological Procedures

Background: If untreated, one third of patients who undergo surgery develop postoperative nausea and/or vomiting (PONV). The prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting can improve satisfaction among vulnerable patients. We hypothesized that preoperative anxiety may increase the incidence of PONV. The objective was to assess whether administration of a benzodiazepine prior to surgery would reduce the incidence of PONV. Methods: 130 women (ASA I and II) scheduled to undergo dilatation and curettage comprised the study group. The women were allocated randomly to two study groups according to the type of anesthesia administered (with and without midazolam). Results: Sixty-eight women received midazolam and 62 did not. Patients treated with midazolam were feeling more comfortable (“friendliness”, p = 0.005 and “elation”, p = 0.01) and had less postoperative fatigue (p = 0.04) than non-midazolam-treated group. Patients treated with midazolam had significantly fewer emetic episodes during the first 4 hours after surgery than those without midazolam (0.1 ± 0.2 vs 0.3 ± 0.6, respectively, p = 0.003). Conclusions: Midazolam reduces the incidence of PONV and improves patient’s comfort. We suggest that midazolam has to be routinely included in the anesthesia protocol for short-term gynecological procedures (dilatation and curettage).

Introduction: Intraoperative cardiovascular complications were previously demonstrated in relation to high sympathetic nervous system outflow or stimulation of the vagal nerve nucleus during theneurosurgical procedures on brain tumors. Main Symptoms and Important Clinical Findings: We are presenting clinical case of 13-year-old girl who suffered from midbrain glioma and developed life threatening cardiovascular events during neurosurgical procedure after surgicel hemostatic agent application. Therapeutic Interventions and Outcomes: Cardiovascular stability has been restored after immediate removal of surgicel from the operating field. We believe that it might be related to direct application of the surgicel hemostatic agent.
