The hat shock transcription factor HSF1 inthe yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae regulates a wide range of genes and functions in diverse cellular reactions. To investigate the physiological response of HSF1 inthe presence of menadione (MD) in S. cerevisiae KNU 5377Y3, wild-type (k3wt) and isogenic hsf1 mutant (k3h1) cells were introduced. HSF1 was induced when k3wt cells were exposed to the superoxide-generating agent MD and k3h1 cells were hypersensitive to MD. Under MD stress, k3h1 cells down-regulated the expression of metabolic enzymes (Hxk, Fba1, Pgk1, Eno2, and Adh1), antioxidant enzymes (Trx2 and porin), and molecular chaperones and their cofactors (Hsp104, Ssb1, Hsp60, Hsp42, Hsp26, Hsp12, Cpr1, and Sti1). In addition, k3h1 cells increased cellular hydroperoxide levels and protein carbonylation under MD stress as compared to k3wt cells. However, there was a moderate difference in the wild-type (b3wt) and mutant (b3h1) cells derived from S. cerevisiae S288Cunder the same conditions. Thus, these results show that HSF1 is an important component of the stress response system, acting as an activator of cell rescue genes in S. cerevisiae KNU5377Y3, and its expression protects the cells from MD-induced oxidative damage by maintaining redox homeostasis and proteostasis in the presence of MD.

A mechanics model is developed for the contact radius of stamps with pyramid tips in transfer *** is important to the realization of reversible control of adhesion,which has many important applications,such as climbing robots,medical tapes,and transfer printing of *** contact radius is shown to scale linearly with the work of adhesion between the stamp and the contacting surface,and inversely with the plane-strain modulus of the stamp. It also depends on the cone angle and tip radius of the stamp,but is essentially independent of details of the tip geometry.

The Eliashberg theory of superconductivity accounts for the fundamental physics of conventional superconductors,including the retardation of the interaction and the Coulomb pseudopotential,to predict the critical temperature T_(c).McMillan,Allen,and Dynes derived approximate closed-form expressions for the critical temperature within this theory,which depends on the electron–phonon spectral functionα^(2)F(ω).Here we show that modern machine-learning techniques can substantially improve these formulae,accounting for more general shapes of theα^(2)F *** symbolic regression and the SISSO framework,together with a database of artificially generatedα^(2)F functions and numerical solutions of the Eliashberg equations,we derive a formula for T_(c)that performs as well as Allen–Dynes for low-T_(c)superconductors and substantially better for higher-T_(c)*** corrects the systematic underestimation of Tc while reproducing the physical constraints originally outlined by Allen and *** equation should replace the Allen–Dynes formula for the prediction of higher-temperature superconductors.

In this study,we investigated the preventive effects of emamectin benzoate 9.7%SL,which was newly developed to reduce the injection volume and number of injection holes required to protect against pine wood *** of the Pinus thunbergii trees injected with emamectin benzoate 9.7%SL at 0.3 mL/cm diameter at breast height(DBH)died within 2 years of inoculation with pine wood *** benzoate 9.7%SL injected at 0.6 mL/cm DBH resulted in no tree mortality for 3 *** residue of emamectin benzoate 9.7%SL in pine twigs injected with 0.3 mL/cm DBH was 0.490μg/g at 1 year after injection and 0.303μg/g after 2 *** residues values are greater than 0.031μg/g,previously determined IC95 value for emamectin benzoate against the pine wood *** field experiment and residue analysis showed that emamectin benzoate 9.7%SL could be a substitute agent for emamectin benzoate 2.15%EC,which is widely used to prevent pine wood nematode in the field and that injection volume and number of injection holes can be greatly educed using this new formulation,which will reduce injury to the cambium,interruption of water movement,and infection of inoculation wounds by wood-decay or blue stain fungi.

In this review paper, we introduce a self-phase controlled stimulated Brillouin scattering phase conjugate mirror(SCSBS-PCM) and the Kumgang laser. The SC-SBS-PCM was proposed and demonstrated its success at the academic low power level, ~100 mJ@10 Hz. The Kumgang laser is under development to verify whether the SC-SBS-PCM is operable at the k W level. It is a 4 kW beam combination laser combining four 1 k W beams using the SC-SBS-PCM. If the Kumgang laser functions successfully, it will be the most important step towards a Dream laser, a hypothetical laser with unlimited power and a high repetition rate.

The use of SponTaneous Respiration using IntraVEnous anesthesia and High-flow nasal oxygen (STRIVE-Hi) in laryngeal surgery has become more widely reported. This method eliminates the endotracheal tube as a fuel for a potential fire. However, little has been published on its use in the pediatric population. Our case report describes its use in a 2-year-old undergoing micro-direct laryngoscopy with CO2 assisted supraglottoplasty and rigid bronchoscopy for airway obstruction from congenital laryngomalacia. The STRIVE-Hi technique was modified for the pediatric patient by using a lower flow through the nasal cannula (4 L). No major changes in SpO2 were detected during the 30-minute procedure. With back up airway safety equipment in place, STRIVE is proving to be a safe technique with major advantages when used in this unique scenario.

Machining experiment of micro channel structure with 6:4 brass was carried out by shaping process using a single crystal diamond tool. FEM simulation using solid cantilever beam model was analyzed. In result of experiment, tool deflection is observed as machining characteristics through result of experiments such as surface roughness, cutting force and burr formations. And the influence of tool deflection is experimentally proved.

BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)infection is known to cause abnormal hepatic *** long term consequences of such elevations are *** To assessed the prevalence and prognostic value of initial liver enzymes in a large cohort of COVID-19 *** We reviewed electronic medical records of 10614 COVID-19 patients without known chronic liver disease who were admitted to our health system from March 1,2020,to April 30,*** analyzed baseline demographics and liver *** primary outcome was in-hospital mortality,and the secondary outcome was a composite of in-hospital mortality or need for mechanical *** Subjects with abnormal liver tests had increased risks of mortality and composite outcome when compared to patients with normal measurements on unadjusted analysis and after adjustment for demographic *** In our diverse patient population,liver enzyme abnormalities are associated with increased mortality and the need for mechanical ventilation in subjects without chronic liver *** patients are at the greatest risk for poor outcomes.

In this work, we report the fabrication and cell affinity studies of the poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/hyaluronic acid (HA) cross-linked nanofibers via electrospinning and post cross-linking. FT-IR and TGA analysis demonstrate that HA is not influenced by acid environment such as HCl vapor during cross-linking, and well incorporated into PVA nanofibers. Swelling behavior and cell adhesion of the PVA/HA hydrogel nanofibers are investigated and compared with pure PVA hydrogel nanofibers. It is expected that the nanofibrous PVA/HA hydrogel fibers could be a promising scaffold for cell culture and tissue engineering applications.
