Performance Indicators for Sun-Tracking Systems: A Case Study in Spain

Current PV cells technology takes advantage mainly from beam radiation. In this context the sun-trackers are such devices for efficiency improvement. On the other hand, projected shadows between devices make mandatory to increase the distances between mounting systems. Thus, the land’s capacity for mounting PV panels can be dramatically decreased. This fact conducts us to wonder where the optimum efficient point is. First, in this paper different types of sun-tracking systems are classified according to the movement they perform (cinematic classification). Further, three real PV installations-fixed, horizontal-axis tracking and dual-axis mount tracking—located in the same geographical area in Spain (they are approximately under the same weather conditions) are analyzed. These installations have been studied in order to establish which one is the most efficient and affordable—Specific Energy Production (SEP) and Performance Ratio (PR) analysis. PVGIS solar radiation estimate tool has been used for comparing the theoretical radiation potential on each plant. The land requirements have been considered in the analysis of the Ground Cover Ratio (GCR) and the Surface Performance Ratio (SPR). Moreover, comparing three main financial indicators let us carry out a financial study: Payback Time (PBT), Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). In the case study, final annual energetic results demonstrate that the dual-axis plant shows a relevant SEP advantage, but if we take into account the land occupied for this sort of devices we find much more profitable the horizontal-axis sun-tracking system, with a SPR value 4.24% higher than the fixed system we have studied. Its PBT is also a 22% lower than the dual-axis tracking installation.

Induced and heavy aggregation operators with distance measures

Are we giving azathioprine too late? The case for early immunomodulation in inflammatory bowel disease

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBd) includes two entities, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Both are chronic conditions with frequent complications and surgical procedures and a great impact on patient’s quality of life. The thiopurine antimetabolites azathioprine and 6-mercaptopurine are widely used in IBd patients. Current indications include maintenance therapy, steroid-dependant disease, fistula closure, prevention of infliximab immunogenicity and prevention of Crohn’s disease recurrence. Surprisingly, the wide use of immunosuppressants in the last decades has not decreased the need of surgery, probably because these treatments are introduced at too late stages in disease course. An earlier use of immunossupressants is now advocated by some authors. The rational includes: (1) failure to modify IBd natural history of present therapeutic approach, (2) demonstration that azathioprine can induce mucosal healing, a relevant prognostic factor for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and (3) demonstration that early immunossupression has a very positive impact on pediatric, recently diagnosed Crohn’s disease patients. We are now awaiting the results of new studies, to clarify the contribution of azathioprine, as compared to infliximab (SONIC Study), and to demonstrate the usefulness of azathioprine in recently diagnosed adult Crohn’s disease patients (AZTEC study).

Natural organic matter quantification in the waters of a semiarid freshwater wetland (Tablas de daimiel, Spain)

dissolved organic matter （dOM） concentrations have been measured in the waters of a semiarid freshwater wetland, the Tablas de daimiel, Spain, when the system-characterised by variable hydroperiodicity conditions, was completely flooded （February 2011）. Fluxes of dOM from the wetland soils to the overlying waters were measured by using a passive diffusion sampler （peeper）. Not only dissolved organic carbon （dOC） concentrations were measured but refractory organic matter （ROM, usually known as humic substances） was also quantified using a novel voltammetric method. Fluorescence spectra were recorded to help in selecting the appropriate standard for ROM quantification, test the homogeneity of dOM in the waters and get an indication of their source. The results obtained show a 7-fold increase in measured ROM concentrations from the Gigtiela River to the outlet, which points to a net exportation of ROM from the wetland and to the existence of an internal source of ROM in the system, probably diffusion from the wetland soils. This hypothesis is confirmed by the flux of ROM from the soils to the water column measured with the peeper and by the common fluorescence characteristics of colunm and interstitial waters. The smaller increase in dOC concentrations along the wetland, in spite of the higher dOC fluxes from soils, suggests that there is significant turnover of organic carbon （OC） in the water column. The system acts as a major carbon sink but, when flooded, exports .OC as dOM.

SnRK2 kinases, PP2C phosphatases and the PYR/PYL/RCAR receptors constitute the core abscisic acid （ABA） signaling module that is thought to contain all of the intrinsic properties to self-regulate the hormone signal output. Here we identify Casein Kinase （CK）2 as a novel negative regulator of SnRK2. CK2 phosphor- ylates a cluster of conserved serines at the ABA box of SnRK2, increasing its binding to PP2C and triggering protein degradation. Consequently, CK2 action has implications on SnRK2 protein levels, as well as kinase activity and its response to abiotic stimuli.

A short review of malabsorption and anemia

Anemia is a frequent finding in most diseases which cause malabsorption. The most frequent etiology is the combination of iron and vitamin B12 deficiency. Celiac disease is frequently diagnosed in patients referred for evaluation of iron deficiency anemia (IdA), being reported in 1.8%-14.6% of patients. Therefore, duodenal biopsies should be taken during endoscopy if no obvious cause of iron defi ciency (Id) can be found. Cobalamin defi ciency occurs frequently among elderly patients, but it is often unrecognized because the clinical manifestations are subtle; it is caused primarily by food-cobalamin malabsorption and pernicious anemia. The classic treatment of cobalamin deficiency has been parenteral administration of the vitamin. Recent data suggest that alternative routes of cobalamin administration (oral and nasal) may be useful in some cases. Anemia is a frequent complication of gastrectomy, and has been often described after bariatric surgery. It has been shown that banding procedures which maintain digestive continuity with the antrum and duodenum are associated with low rates of Id. Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection may be considered as a risk factor for IdA, mainly in groups with high demands for iron, such as some children and adolescents. Further controlled trials are needed before making solid recommendations about H pylori eradication in these cases.

Non-cycloplegic spherical equivalent refraction in adults:comparison of the double-pass system,retinoscopy,subjective refraction and a table-mounted autorefractor

AIM:To evaluate the accuracy of spherical equivalent(SE) estimates of a double-pass system and to compare it with retinoscopy,subjective refraction and a table mounted ***:Non-cycloplegic refraction was performed on 125 eyes of 65 healthy adults(age 23.5±3.0 years) from October 2010 to January 2011 using retinoscopy,subjective refraction,autorefraction(Auto kerato refractometer TOPCON KR-8100,Japan) and a double pass system(Optical Quality Analysis System,OQAS,Visiometrics S.L.,Spain).Nine consecutive measurements with the double-pass system were performed on a subgroup of 22 eyes to assess *** evaluate the trueness of the OQAS instrument,the SE laboratory bias between the double pass system and the other techniques was ***:The SE mean coefficient of repeatability obtained was *** correlations could be established between the OQAS and the SE obtained with retinoscopy(r=0.956,Pd autorefraction(r=0.957,Pdifferences in SE between the double-pass system and the other techniques were significant(Pd clinical relevance except for retinoscopy;Retinoscopy gave more hyperopic values than the double-pass system-0.51±0.50d as well as the subjective refraction-0.23±0.50d;More myopic values were achieved by means of autorefraction 0.24±0.49d. CONCLUSION:The double-pass system provides accurate and reliable estimates of the SE that can be used for clinical *** technique can determine the correct focus position to assess the ocular optical ***,it has a relatively small measuring range in comparison with autorefractors(-8.00 to +5.00d),and requires prior information on the refractive state of the patient.

Impact of mass screening for gluten-sensitive enteropathy in working population

AIM:To assess:(1)frequency and clinical relevanceof gluten sensitive enteropathy(GSE)detected by serology in a mass screening program;(2)sensitivity of antitransglutaminase(tTGA)and antiendomysium antibodies(EmA);and(3)adherence to gluten-free diet(GFd)and follow-up. METHOdS:One thousand,eight hundred and sixtyeight subjects recruited from an occupational health department underwent analysis for tTGA and EmA and, if positive,duodenal biopsy,dQ2/dQ8 genotyping, clinical feature recording,blood tests,and densitometry were ***>98%of individuals had tTGA d as the cut-off limit of normality and was considered positive when confirmed twice in the same *** to a GFd and follow up were registered. RESULTS:Twenty-six(1.39%)subjects had positive tTGA and/or EmA,and 21 underwent biopsy:six Marsh Ⅲ(oneⅢa,fourⅢb,oneⅢc),nine MarshⅠand six Marsh 0(frequency of GSE 1:125).The sensitivity of EmA for GSE was 46.6%(11.1%for MarshⅠ,100% for MarshⅢ),while for tTGA,it was 93.3%(88.8% for MarshⅠ,100%for MarshⅢ).All 15 patients with abnormal histology had clinical features related to ***ⅠandⅢsubjects had more abdominal pain than Marsh 0(P=0.029),and a similar trend was observed for distension and *** differences in the percentage of osteopenia were found between MarshⅠandⅢ(P=0.608).Adherence to follow-up was 69.2%.Of 15 GSE patients,66.7%followed a GFd with 80%responding to it. CONCLUSION:GSE in the general population is frequent and clinically relevant,irrespective of histological *** is the marker of *** screening programs are useful in identifying patients who can benefit from GFd and follow-up.
