Studying on the increasing temperature in IT-SOFC:Effect of heat sources

The dimensions and the materials type limit the performance of fuel cell. The increase of the temperature in electrodes and electrolyte of the cell,is due to the over potential of activation (transfer of load),the over potential Ohmic (resistance of polarization),the over potential of reaction (heat released by the chemical reaction) and the over potential of diffusion. In this paper,we studied the thermo-electrical performance of an intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cell (IT-SOFC) with electrode supported. The aim of this work is to study this increasing temperature of a single cell of an IT-SOFC under the influence of the following parameters: heat sources,functioning temperature and voltages of the cell,geometric configuration and materials type. The equation of energy in one dimension is numerically resolved by using the method of finite volumes. A computing program (FORTRAN) is developed locally for this purpose in order to obtain fields of temperature in every element of the cell.

Double diabetes in Saudi Arabia: A new entity or an underestimated condition

AIM To determine the clinical and biological characteristics of double diabetes(DD) among young people in Saudi *** This was a retrospective descriptive chart review study including 312 young newly diagnosed diabetic patients(aged 12-20 years), whom were admitted over a five year period(January 2009 to December 2013). Family history of diabetes mellitus(DM)(first degree), physical body mass index(BMI), acanthosis nigricans, history of auto-immune disease and laboratory information for glycosylated hemoglobin, basal C peptide level and diabetes autoantibody response(anti-GAD, anti-IA2 and anti-ICA) were collected from medical report. A mean follow-up of 3 years for these patients was *** Patients were categorized into 4 groups, based on the autoantibody response(Ab+ or Ab-) and C-peptide secretion(β+ for fasting level 0.4-2.1 ng/mL and β- if < 0.4 ng/mL). Group1(type 1a): Ab+ β-(21%), group 2(type 1b): Ab- β-(9%), group 3(DD): Ab+ β+(31%)and group 4(classic type 2 DM): Ab- β+(39%). The mean age of the DD patients in our study was 15.1 ± 6.4 years. A total of 41% of the study population presented with diabetic ketoacidosis and 61% of the study population presented with positive family history of DM. The mean BMI was 26.8 kg/m2 with 64% of overweight or obese patients. Ninety two percent of the patients were started on insulin at the time of diagnosis. During a mean follow-up of 3 years, only 32% of the patients with DD required insulin and 78% were on metformin alone or with insulin. CONCLUSION Our findings enable us to arrive at the conclusion that almost one-third of the young Saudi diabetic patients reveal atypical forms of DM(double diabetes) expressing features resulting from both T1D and T2D.

Evaluation of Metal Contamination of Mullet （Mullus surmuletus L., 1758） in the Bay of Oran

The present study focused on the evaluation of the contamination by three heavy metals （Cd, Cu and Zn） of a bony fish, Mullus surmuletus L., 1758, caught in the Bay of Oran. This reflects the quality of fish habitat as species common Algerian coastal waters and enjoyed by a large fish-eating population. Monthly sampling was spread over a period of six months （December 2011-May 2012）. Given their physiological importance in the body, muscle, liver and gonads were targeted. Metal concentrations were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry in flame depends on three parameters （sex, size and month）. It appears from this study that the target organs of rouget （M. surmuletus） accumulate three metal pollutants sought. The highest values are those of zinc, copper and cadmium are at concentrations at least important. The results, statistically treated, showed no significant difference between the concentrations of trace metals both sexes and at all three organs considered. The average dose of heavy metals found in the mullet compared to those provided by the literature relating to DMA （Maximum Allowable Doses）, are not worrisome. Concentration levels of toxic metals reflect a certain metal pollution in the Bay of Oran.

Design Of MV/LV Substation Transformer

A substation is a part of an electrical generation, transmission, and distribution system. Substations generally have switching, protection and control equipment, and transformers. The low voltage distribution networks are supplied from MV/LV substation transformer that represent the last step of bringing transformation to the? low voltage and ensuring the? protection and monitoring of the network. There are three types of MV/LV substation: pole-mounted transformer substation, the substation in an envelope and substation in masonry. This paper presents a general description for different MV/LV substation and a methodology to design the various elements making up the public distribution substation (choice of the emplacement, engineering, power transformer, choice of MV cells, circuit breakers, fuses, disconnect? switch, conductors,...etc).

Triple Notched Band Characteristics UWB Antenna Using C-Shaped Slots and Slot-Type Capacitively-Loaded Loop (CLL)

Ultra wide bands antennas with notched bands characteristics have recently been considered for efficient communication between devices. In this paper, a compact ultra-wideband antenna (UWB) for UWB applications with triple bandnotched characteristics is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a square patch with four truncated corners and a partial ground plane with a rectangular slit. The operation bandwidth of the designed antenna is from 2.66 GHz to more than 13.5 GHz. Band-notched characteristics of antenna to reject the frequency band of 3.18 - 3.59 GHz and 4.70 - 5.88 GHz, is realized by inserting two C-shaped slots in the patch, the third band of 9.54 - 12.22 GHz is achieved by slottype capacitively-loaded loop (CLL) inserted in the patch near the feed line. Details of the proposed antenna design and simulated results are presented and discussed.

A Stoppable Clock Based Four Step Search Block-Matching Motion Estimation Architecture

Motion Estimation （ME） is considerate one of the most important compression methods. However, ME involves high computational complexity. The main goal is to reduce power conception and the execution time without reducing image quality. In this paper, the authors have proposed high parallel processing architecture is presented for four-step search block-matching motion estimation. The proposed method is based on the stoppable clock models. The architecture has been simulated and synthesized with VHDL and ASIC （CMOS 45 nm）. Synthesize results show that the proposed architecture reduces the power consumption and achieves a high performance for real time motion estimation.

<i>Mytilus galloprovincialis</i>as Mussel Watch for Butyltins, Tin, Copper and Zinc Contamination, from Antifouling Paint Particles, in West Algerian Coastal Waters

Butyltin compounds (BTs) including tributyltin (TBT) and its degradation product (DBT) and concentrations of heavy metals (Sn, Cu and Zn) were determined in mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) collected from some West Algerian harbours. BTs were detected in all the mussels. Quanti?cation of BTs and heavy metals was carried respectively by Gas Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS) and Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, flame AAS. Concentrations of total butyltin (BTs: DBT + TBT) in mussels ranged from 0.49 to 2438 ng/g wet wt. The concentrations (μg/g wet wt) of heavy metals ranged from 0.40 to 3.55 for Sn, 9.62 to 67.03 for Cu, and 87.13 to 731.51 for Zn. Total of tin in mussels ranged from 0.2 to 1054.78 ng/g. Higher concentrations of butyltin compounds were found in mussels collected from Mers El Kebir shipyard, Arzew, a petroleum harbour (industrial), and Beni Saf fishing harbour. This suggested that maritime activities nearby the harbours play a major role as the source of BTs. Indeed, harbour of Arzew is frequented by voluminous tanker. TBT was the predominant compound in mussels collected from almost all the sampling locations;indicate the fresh input of TBT in harbours.

Description of a New Species of <i>Sphincteristomum</i>from Sparid Fishies of the Algerian Coast (Western Mediterranean)

The objectif in the present study is description of a new species of Sphincteristomum Oshmarin, Mamaev & Parukhin 1961, named Sphincteristomum mediterraneae, which is described in Oran bay, Algeria. It parasitizes the intestine of naturally infected Pagellus erythrinus, Teleostei, Sparidae. The Pagellus erythrinus is in important food fish in the Mediterranean. This genus belongs to the family Apocreadiidae, sub family Schistorchiinae, characterized by an obvious oral muscular sphincter, into a large oral sucker, a disc-shaped acetabulum under the intestinal bifurcation, an ocular pigment scattered in the forebody, a sequence ovary and two testes in tandem and a I-shaped excretory bladder. In the new species, the digestive apparatus displays a hexagonal peculiar aperture, followed by a longitudinal slit, a waved pharynx, two long and broad caeca, with a thick internal wall of endothelial cells. Each caecum has a sub terminal anus. The female genital apparatus displays a transversally elongated ovary, under the acetabulum. On the side of the ovary, there is a small Mehlis gland. Under the ovary, there are two transverse converging vitelloducts. Lateral and extracaecal vitelline follicles, are spread near the caeca. They converge in the hindbody. The relatively short uterus is preovarian, mainly. It contains few large yellow eggs. Its distal part is creased transversally, just before ending in genital atrium. The male genital apparatus shows two lobed heart-shaped testes, post ovarian, in tandem. From the anterior edge of each testis, two spermiducts climb up and converge into a naked, curved or sinuous seminal vesicle, followed by a short prostate surrounded by few prostatic cells, and a narrow ejaculatory duct, opening in genital atrium. The genital pore is close to the acetabulum and the intestinal bifurcation. No cirrus pouch. Design of a Smart Sole with Advanced Fall Detection Algorithm

Fall has become the second leading cause of unintentional injury, death, after road traffic injuries, for the elderly in Europe. This proportion will increase in the next decades and become more than ever a real public health issue. France was selected by the World Health Organization to be the first country to implement a program that reduces the coverage of the dependence. Commercial automatic fall detection devices can help seniors get back on their feet faster by reducing the time of emergency procedure. Many seniors do not take advantage of this potentially life-saving technology mainly because of intrusiveness constraints. After having reminded the context and the challenges of fall detection systems, this paper presents an original device which is unobtrusive, comfortable and very effective. The hardware architecture embedded into the sole and a new fall detection algorithm based on acceleration and time thresholds are presented. The algorithm introduces a new concept of differential acceleration to eliminate some drawbacks of current systems. Tests were carried out under real life conditions by 6 young participants for different ADLs. The data were analyzed blindly. We compared the detected falls and found a 100% sensibility and more than 93% sensitivity for all participants and scenarios.
