Determining the spatial distribution of environmental and socio-economic suitability for human leptospirosis in the face of limited epidemiological data

One of the challenges in the field of multi-photon 3D laser printing lies in further increasing the print speed in terms of voxels/***,we present a setup based on a 7×7 focus array(rather than 3×3 in our previous work)and using a focus velocity of about 1 m/s(rather than 0.5 m/s in our previous work)at the diffraction limit(40×/NA1.4 microscope objective lens).Combined,this advance leads to a ten times increased print speed of about 108 voxels/*** demonstrate polymer printing of a chiral metamaterial containing more than 1.7×10^(12) voxels as well as millions of printed microparticles for potential pharmaceutical *** critical high-quality micro-optical components of the setup,namely a diffractive optical element generating the 7×7 beamlets and a 7×7 lens array,are manufactured by using a commercial two-photon grayscale 3D laser printer.

Evaluation of antiviral activities of Houttuynia cordata ***,quercetin,quercetrin and cinanserin on murine coronavirus and dengue virus infection

Objective:To evaluate the in vitro activities of the ethyl acetate(EA) fraction of Houttuynia cordata(***) Thunb.(Saururaceae) and three of its constituent flavonoids(*** and rutin) against murine coronavirus and dengue virus(DENV).methods:The antiviral activities of various concentrations of the EA fraction of *** and flavonoids were assessed using virus neutralization tests against mouse hepatitis virus(mHV) and DENV type 2(DENV-2).Cinanserin hydrochloride was also tested against *** EA fraction of *** was tested for acute oral toxicity in C57BL/6 ***:The EA fraction of *** inhibited viral infectivity up to 6 *** hydrochloride was able to inhibit mHV for only 2 *** 50%inhibitory concentrations(IC_(50)) of the EA fraction of *** added before the viral adsorption stage were 0.98 μg/mL for mHV and 7.50 μg/mL for DENV-2with absence of *** mice fed with the EA fraction up to 2 000 mg/kg did not induce any signs of acute toxicity,with normal histological features of major *** flavonoids exhibited comparatively weaker antiviral activity,notably quercetin which could inhibit both mHV and *** was followed by quercitrin which could inhibit DENV-2but not mHV,whereas rutin did not exert any inhibitory effect on either *** quercetin was combined with quercitrin,enhancement of anti-DENV-2 activity and reduced cytotoxicity were ***,the synergistic efficacy of the flavonoid combination was still less than that of the EA ***:The compounds in *** contribute to the superior antiviral efficacy of the EA fraction which lacked cytotoxicity in vitro and acute toxicity in *** has much potential for the development of antiviral agents against coronavirus and dengue infections.

Improving Water Use Efficiency of Wheat Crop Varieties in the North China Plain: Review and Analysis

The North China Plain （NCP）, one of the most important agricultural regions in China, is facing a major water-resource crisis evoked by excessive exploitation of groundwater. To reduce water use while maintaining high crop production level, improving variety water use efficiency （WUE） is an urgent need, especially because other water-saving measures such as water delivery, irrigation, and agricultural practices have already achieved most possible progresses. Evaluation of variety WUE can be performed accurately at the individual plant level （WUEp）. Reviewing the studies on physiological factors affecting WUE p performed up to date, stomatal conductance was considered to be an important trait associating closely with WUE p . The trait showed a large degree of varietal variability under well-watered conditions. Crop varieties differ highly in sensitivity of stomata to soil and air drying, with some varieties strongly reducing their stomatal conductance in contrast with those lightly regulating their stomata. As a result, difference among varieties in WUE p was enlarged under water deficit conditions in contrast with those under well-watered conditions. The relationship between stomatal conductance and yield depends on water availability of whole growing period in local areas. Usually, large stomatal conductance results in a high yield under good irrigation system, whereas a low stomatal conductance can lead to yield benefit under limited stored soil moisture conditions. In the NCP, winter wheat is the largest consumer of irrigation water, improvement strategies for high WUE aiming at wheat crops are in urgent need. We suggest, for the well-irrigated areas with excessive exploitation of groundwater, the wheat breeding program need to combine medium stomatal conductance （0.35 mmol H2O m-2 s-1 or so）, high carboxylation efficiency, and high harvest index. The synergistic role of Ti microparticles and CeO_(2) nanoparticles in tailoring microstructures and properties of high-quality Ni matrix nanocomposite coating

In current work,Ni-Ti-CeO_(2) nanocomposite coatings were achieved by co-adding Ti microparticles and CeO_(2) *** experiments and COmSOL computer simulation were applied to reveal the synergistic role of Ti microparticles and CeO_(2) nanoparticles in tailoring the spatial microstructures and properties of Ni-Ti-CeO_(2) nanocomposite ***,the conductive Ti microparticles conducted the growth behavior of Ni grains by current density concentration,distorting electronic feld lines and heterogeneous *** domains consisting of inner nanograins and outer radial columnar grains surrounded Ti microparticles,where Ti microparticles acted as *** microparticles tended to be aggregated,leading to spatial heterogeneity of *** deposits buried the Ti microparticles in forms of“covering model”,contributing to the formation of inside voids and rough surface and aggregation of Ti microparticles;on the other hand,the non-conductive CeO_(2)microparticles hardly changed the distribution of current density and electronic feld lines on the cathode *** deposits buried the CeO_(2)microparticle in forms of“stacking model”,avoiding the inside voids and aggregation of *** incorporation of CeO_(2)microparticle brought in microstructure evolutions only on its top side without disturbing the growth behavior of Ni grains on its lateral side or bottom,suggesting the limited *** was correlated with the presence of current concentration above the CeO_(2) microparticle at the last stage of burying CeO_(2) *** co-addition of Ti microparticles and CeO_(2) nanoparticles into Ni deposits exploited the complementary action of the two particles,which gave birth to satisfed spatial microstructures and improved *** microparticles took major responsibility for microstructure evolutions,while the CeO_(2) nanoparticles were mainly in charge of the microstructure homogeneity.

Safety and efficacy of ledipasvir/sofosbuvir on hepatitis C eradication in hepatitis C virus/human immunodeficiency virus co-infected patients

AIm To evaluate the safety and efficacy of ledipasvir/sofosbuvir on hepatitis C eradication in patients with hepatitis C virus(HCV)/human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) co-infection in an urban HIV *** A retrospective cohort study of 40 subjects co-infected with HIV-1 and HCV treated with the fixed-dose combination of ledipasvir and sofosbuvir for 12 wk from 2014 to *** patients included were receiving antiretroviral therapy(ART) with HIV RNA values of 100 copies/m L or fewer regardless of baseline HCV RNA *** primary end point was a sustained virologic response of HCV at 12 wk(SVR12) after the end of *** Of the 40 patients enrolled,55% were black,22.5% had been previously treated for HCV,and 25% *** patients were on a wide range of ***,39 patients(97.5%) had a SVR 12 after the end of therapy,including rates of 97.1% in patients with HCV genotype 1 a and 100% in those with HCV genotype 1 *** patient with HCV genotype 3 a was included and achieved *** of SVR12 were similar regardless of previous treatment or the presence of compensated *** 1 patient experienced relapse at week 12 following treatment and deep sequencing didn't reveal any resistance associated mutation in the NS5A or NS5B ***,7(17.5%) patients who were adherent to ART experienced HIV viral breakthrough which resolved after continuing the same ART ***(5%) patients experienced HIV-1 virologic rebound due to noncompliance with HIV therapy,which resolved after resuming the same ART *** severe adverse events were observed and no patient discontinued treatment because of adverse *** most common adverse events included headache(12.5%),fatigue(10%),and diarrhea(2.5%).CONCLUSION This retrospective study demonstrated the high rates of SVR12 of ledipasvir/sofosbuvir on HCV eradication in patients co-infected with HCV and HIV,regardless of HCV baseline levels,HCV treatment history or cirrhosis condition.

An experimental approach for investigating many-body phenomena in Rydberg-interacting quantum systems

Recent developments in the study of ultracold Rydberg gases demand an adwanced level of experimental sophistication, in which high atomic and optical densities must be combined with excellent control of external fields and sensitive Rydberg atom detection. We describe a tailored experimental system used to produce and study Rydberg-interacting atoms excited from dense ultracold atomic gases. The experiment has been optimized for fast duty cycles using a high flux cold atom source and a three beam optical dipole trap. The latter enables tuning of the atomic density and temperature over several orders of magnitude, all the way to the Bose--Einstein condensation transition. An elec- trode structure surrounding the atoms allows for precise control over electric fields and single-particle sensitive field ionization detection of Rydberg atoms. We review two experiments which highlight the influence of strong Rydberg---Rydberg interactions on different many-body systems. First, the Rydberg blockade effect is used to pre-structure an atomic gas prior to its spontaneous evolution into an ultracold plasma. Second, hybrid states of photons and atoms called dark-state polaritons are studied. By looking at the statistical distribution of Rydberg excited atoms we reveal correlations between dark-state polaritons. These experiments will ultimately provide a deeper understanding of many-body phenomena in strongly-interacting regimes, including the study of strongly-coupled plasmas and interfaces between atoms and light at the quantum level.
