Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is strongly associated with the metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes and independently contributes to long-term *** often asymptomatic but reversible,it would require population-wide screening,but direct diagnostics are either too invasive(liver biopsy),costly(MRI)or depending on the examiner’s expertise(ultrasonography).hepatosteatosis is usually accommodated by features of the metabolic syndrome(***,disturbances in triglyceride and glucose metabolism),and signs of hepatocellular damage,all of which are reflected by biomarkers,which poorly predict NAFLD as single item,but provide a cheap diagnostic alternative when integrated into composite liver fat *** liver index,NAFLD LFs,and hepatic steatosis index are common and accurate indices for NAFLD prediction,but show limited accuracy for liver fat *** indices are rarely *** fibrosis scores are commonly used in clinical practice,but their mandatory reflection of fibrotic reorganization,hepatic injury or systemic sequelae reduces sensitivity for the diagnosis of simple ***-induced liver fat changes are poorly reflected by liver fat indices,depending on the intervention and its specific impact of weight loss on *** limited validity in longitudinal settings stimulates research for new ***,hepatokines,markers of cellular integrity,genetic variants but also simple and inexpensive routine parameters might be potential ***,liver fat indices lack precision for NAFLD prediction or monitoring in individual patients,but in large cohorts they may substitute nonexistent imaging data and serve as a compound biomarker of metabolic syndrome and its cardiometabolic sequelae.

Regenerative medicine is the field concerned with the repair and restoration of the integrity of damaged human tissues as well as whole *** the inception of the field several decades ago,regenerative medicine therapies,namely stem cells,have received significant attention in preclinical studies and clinical *** from their known potential for differentiation into the various body cells,stem cells enhance the organ's intrinsic regenerative capacity by altering its environment,whether by exogenous injection or introducing their products that modulate endogenous stem cell function and fate for the sake of ***,research in cardiology has highlighted the evidence for the existence of cardiac stem and progenitor cells(CsCs/CPCs).The global burden of cardiovascular diseases’morbidity and mortality has demanded an in-depth understanding of the biology of CsCs/CPCs aiming at improving the outcome for an innovative therapeutic *** review will discuss the nature of each of the CsCs/CPCs,their environment,their interplay with other cells,and their *** addition,important issues are tackled concerning the potency of CsCs/CPCs in relation to their secretome for mediating the ability to influence other ***,the review will throw the light on the clinical trials and the preclinical studies using CsCs/CPCs and combined therapy for cardiac ***,the novel role of nanotechnology in cardiac regeneration will be explored.

Calcitonin and vitamin D3 have high therapeutic potential for improving diabetic mandibular growth

The goal of this study was to assess the effect of the intermittent combination of an antiresorptive agent （calcitonin） and an anabolic agent （vitamin D3） on treating the detrimental effects of Type 1 diabetes mellitus （DM） on mandibular bone formation and growth. Forty 3-week-old male Wistar rats were divided into four groups： the control group （normal rats）, the control C＋D group （normal rats injected with calcitonin and vitamin D3）, the diabetic C＋D group （diabetic rats injected with calcitonin and vitamin D3） and the diabetic group （uncontrolled diabetic rats）. An experimental DM condition was induced in the male Wistar rats in the diabetic and diabetic C＋ D groups using a single dose of 60 ***-1 body weight of streptozotocin. Calcitonin and vitamin D3 were simultaneously injected in the rats of the control C＋D and diabetic C＋D groups. All rats were killed after 4 weeks, and the right mandibles were evaluated by micro-computed tomography and histomorphometric analysis. Diabetic rats showed a significant deterioration in bone quality and bone formation （diabetic group）. By contrast, with the injection of calcitonin and vitamin D3, both bone parameters and bone formation significantly improved （diabetic C＋ D group）（P 〈 0.05）. These findings suggest that these two hormones might potentially improve various bone properties.

Predictors of anti-sARs-CoV-2 seropositivity:An Egyptian population-based study

Background:Population-based studies on the determinants of COVID-19 seroprevalence constitute a cornerstone in guiding appropriate preventive *** studies are scarce in Egypt,thus we conducted this study to explore risk factors for sARs-CoV-2 ***:This survey included 2919 participants from 10 Egyptian *** were tested for sARs-CoV-2 spike(s)and nucleocapsid(N)*** and multivariate analyses were performed to identify associated factors and predictors of seropositivity regarding sociodemographic factors,clinical data,and personal practices of participants.A subgroup analysis was performed to investigate the occupational risks of ***:seropositivity was recorded in 1564 participants(53.6%).Independent predictors of seropositivity in-cluded non-smokers(aOR=1.817;95%CI:1.407-2.346,p=0.000),having blood group A(aOR=1.231;95%CI:1.016-1.493,p=0.034),a history of COVID-19 infection(aOR=2.997;95%CI:2.176-4.127,p=0.000),COVID-19 vaccination(aOR=4.349;95%CI:2.798-6.759,p=0.000),higher crowding index(aOR=1.229;95%CI:1.041-1.451,p=0.015),anosmia and/or ageusia(aOR=3.453;95%CI:2.661-4.481,p=0.000)and history of fever(aOR=1.269;95%CI:1.033-1.560,p=0.023).healthcare worker and Obesity/overweight were additional significant predictors of seropositivity among the working participants(aOR=1.760;95%CI:1.301-2.381,p=0.000 and aOR=1.384;95%CI:1.059-1.808,p=0.019,respectively).Additional factors showing association with seropositivity in the univariate analysis were:female gender,age group(15-39 years),higher educational level(preparatory and above),lack of environmental disinfection and having roommates at the *** was a positive correlation between the titers of both *** was weakly corre-lated with anti-s titer,while anti-N was significantly correlated with the number of protective measures applied by the *** antibodies were significantly correlated with adult BMI,while both we

Protective Effects of Estradiol on Myocardial Contractile Function Following hemorrhagic shock and Resuscitation in Rats

Background： hemorrhagic shock （hs） results in myocardial contractile dysfunction. studies showed that 17β-estradiol protects the myocardium against contractile dysfunction. The study investigated the cardioprotective effects of treatment with 17β-estradiol before resuscitation following 1 h of hs and resuscitation. Methods： Male sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to 2 sets of experimental protocols： Ex vivo and in vivo treatment and resuscitation. Each set had three experimental groups （n = 6 per group）： Normotensive （N）, hs and resuscitation （hs-R） and hs rats treated with 17β-estradiol （E） and resuscitated （hs-E-R）. Rats were hemorrhaged over 60-rain to reach a mean arterial blood pressure of 40 mmhg. In the ex vivo group, hearts were resuscitated by perfusion in the Langendorff system. In the 17β-estradiol treated group, 17β-estradiol 280 μg/kg was added for the first 5 min. Cardiac function was measured. Left ventricular generated pressure （LVGP） and ＋dP/dt were calculated. In the in vivo group, rats were treated with 17β-estradiol 280 ±g/kg s.c. after 60-rain hs. Resuscitation was performed in vivo by the reinfusion of the shed blood for 30-min to restore normotension. Results： Treatment with 17β-estradiol before resuscitation in ex vivo treated and resuscitated isolated hearts and in the in vivo treated and resuscitated rats following hs improved myocardial contractile function. In the in vivo treated group, LVGP and ＋dP/dt max were significantly higher in 17β-estradiol treated rats compared to the untreated group （LVGP 136.40 ± 6.61 compared to 47.58 ± 17.55, and ＋dP/dt 661.85 ± 49.88 compared to 88.18 ± 0.85）. Treatment with 17β-estradiol improved LVGP following hs. Conclusions： The results indicate that treatment with 17β-estradiol before resuscitation following hs protects the myocardium against dysfunction.

Modification of serum Galectin-3 and Reversal of Cardiac Remodeling Following Pediatric Transcatheter Atrial septal Defect Closure

Objectives:We aimed to evaluate the effect of percutaneous atrial septal defect(AsD)closure in children using right heart indices and serum galectin-3(Gal-3),as potential biomarkers of right heart ***:This case–control prospective study included 40 children with AsD and 25 control *** echocardiographic evaluation was performed before the procedure,as well as 24 h,1 month,and 6 months after *** Gal-3 was measured before,and 1 month after the ***:serum Gal-3 concentration,right atrial(RA)dimensions,right ventricular(RV)dimensions,indexed RA area,and right index of myocardial performance(RIMP)were significantly increased in children with AsD compared with control subjects while tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion(TAPsE)was significantly *** months after closure,RA,and RV dimensions significantly decreased and RVfunction improved(RIMP decreased and TAPsE increased).Gal-3 oncentration significantly decreased 1 month after AsD closure,but it did not reach normal range compared with control subjects.A positive correlation between Gal-3 and age at closure,RA area,RV dimensions,and RIMP was observed.A positive correlation was observed between the decrease in Gal-3 concentration and the decrease in RA area and RV dimensions 1 month after AsD closure.A significant negative correlation was observed between TAPsE and Gal-3 concentration before and after ***:Percutaneous AsD closure can improve right-sided indices and decrease serum Gal-3 ***-3 can be used as a sensitive biomarker of right heart remodeling,with a decrease in Gal-3 concentration suggesting reversal of maladaptive remodeling.

Frequency of diabetic retinopathy and associated risk factors in Khartoum,sudan:population based study

AIM： To assess the frequency and associated risk fac- tors of diabetic retinopathy among sudanese individuals with diabetes attending Makka Eye complex in Khartoum, sudan. METhODs： The cross sectional hospital based study recruited 316 individuals with diabetes from Makkah Eye Complex Retina Clinic. standard questionnaire was used to collect demographic data, medical history and life style characteristics. Blood samples were taken to measure hbAlc and lipid profile. Fundus and slit lamp examination were performed for screening of diabetic retinopathy. REsULTs： Among 316 participants, 187 （59.2%） were males and 129 （40.8%） were females. The mean age of participants was 58.7＋_10.5y. The overall frequency of retinopathy was 261 （82.6%）. The percentages of the total participants with proliferative diabetic retinopathy （PDR） were 126 （39.9%） and non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy （NPDR） were 135 （42.7%）. importantly, duration of diabetes mellitus （DM）（72.2% of more than 10y）, being on oral hypoglycaemic drugs （versus insulin）, and hypertension were all significant risk factors for diabetic retinopathy （P=0.00, 0.01 and 0.00 respectively）. Complications ofdiabetes like diabetic foot （17.7%）, history of amputation （6.7%） and clinically significant macular edema （CsME）（47.4%） of the eyes were all significant risk factors （P〈0.05）. Logistic regression analysis showed that duration of diabetes, hypertension and CsME were found to be absolute risk factors （P=-0.007, 0.003 and 0,000 respectively）. Duration of DM of more than 10y have more than double risk （OR--2.8）, while having hypertension triples the risk of retinopathy （OR=3.1）. CONCLUsION： high rates of diabetic retinopathy are noted among individuals with diabetes attending Makkah Eye hospital in capital Khartoum. Urgent strategies are needed to monitor and treat hypertension and optimize diabetes control in individuals with diabetes. More investment in diabetes services is urgently needed.

The purpose of the present paper is to study the entropy h_s(Φ) of a quantum dynamical systems Φ=(L,s,φ),where s is a bayessian state on an orthomodular lattice *** introduced the notion of entropy hs(φ,)of partition of a Boolean algebra B with respect to a state s and a state preserving homomorphism φ,we prove afew results on that,define the entropy of a dynamical system h_s(Φ),and show its *** concept of sufficientfamilies is also given and we establish that hs(Φ) comes out to be equal to the supremum of h_s(φ,),where variesover any sufficient *** present theory has then been extended to the quantum dynamical system ( L,s,φ),whichas an effect of the theory of commutators and Bell inequalities can equivalently be replaced by the dynamical system(B,s_o,φ),where B is a Boolean algebra and so is a state on B.

sonographic gallbladder wall thickness measurement and the prediction of esophageal varices among cirrhotics

Acute variceal bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension(PhT) is the most serious emergency complication among those patients and could have catastrophic outcomes if not timely managed. Early screening by esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy(EGD) for the presence of esophageal varices(EVs) is currently recommended by the practice guidelines for all cirrhotic patients. Meanwhile, EGD is not readily accepted or preferred by many patients. The literature is rich in studies to investigate and validate non-invasive markers of EVs prediction aiming at reducing the unneeded endoscopic procedures. Gallbladder(GB) wall thickness(GBWT) measurement has been found promising in many published research articles. We aim to highlight the validity of sonographic GBWT measurement in the prediction of EVs based on the available evidence. We searched databases including Cochrane library, Pub med, Web of science and many others for relevant articles. GBWT is associated with the presence of EVs in cirrhotic patients with PhT of different etiologies. The cut-off of GBWT that can predict the presence of EVs varied in the literature and ranges from 3.1 mm to 4.35 mm with variable sensitivities of 46%-90.9% and lower cutoffs in viral cirrhosis compared to non-viral, however GBWT > 4 mm in many studies is associated with acceptable sensitivity up to 90%. Furthermore, a relation was also noticed with the degree of varices and portal hypertensive *** cirrhotics, GBWT > 3.5 mm predicts the presence of advanced(grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ) EVs with a sensitivity of 45%, the sensitivity increased to 92% when a cut-off ≥ 3.95 mm was used in another cohort. Analysis of these results should carefully be revised in the context of ascites, hypoalbuminemia and other intrinsic GB diseases among cirrhotic patients. The sensitivity for prediction of EVs improved upon combining GBWT measurement with other non-invasive predictors, e.g., platelets/GBWT.
