Buried water pipelines are vulnerable to fail or break due to excessive loading or ground *** evaluation of pipe performance and serviceability relies on the proper understanding of pipe-soil interactions(PSI).Analytical methods are important approaches to studying ***,a systematic and thorough literature review to analyze the existing research trends,technological achievements and future research opportunities is not *** work investigates analytical methods that analyze the stress and deformation of pipes in terms of cross-sectional,transverse and longitudinal PSI ***,scientometric analysis is performed to acquire relevant research works from online databases and analyze the existing data of influential authors,productive research sources and frequent key word occurrence in the fields of ***,a qualitative discussion is performed in the three categories of PSI:(1)cross-sectional,including ovalization and circumferential behaviours;(2)transverse,including seismic fault crossing,weak soil zones,ground settlement and pipe uplift;and(3)***,six research opportunities are discussed,including the role of friction in cross-sectional deformation,combined effects of bending and compression,choice of soil reaction models and calibration of key parameters,effect of pipe flaws,soil spatial variability and behaviours of curved *** study helps beginners familiarize themselves with PSI analytical methods and provides experienced researchers with ideas for future research directions.

This paper proposes a high-throughput short reference differential chaos shift keying cooperative communication system with the aid of code index modulation,referred to as CIM-SR-DCSK-CC *** the proposed CIM-SR-DCSK-CC system,the source transmits information bits to both the relay and destination in the first time slot,while the relay not only forwards the source information bits but also sends new information bits to the destination in the second time *** be specific,the relay employs an N-order Walsh code to carry additional log_(2)N information bits,which are superimposed onto the SRDCSK signal carrying the decoded source information ***,the superimposed signal carrying both the source and relay information bits is transmitted to the ***,the theoretical bit error rate(BER)expressions of the proposed CIMSR-DCSK-CC system are derived over additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN)and multipath Rayleigh fading *** with the conventional DCSKCC system and SR-DCSK-CC system,the proposed CIM-SR-DCSK-CC system can significantly improve the throughput without deteriorating any BER *** a consequence,the proposed system is very promising for the applications of the 6G-enabled lowpower and high-rate communication.

An information system is a type of knowledge representation,and attribute reduction is crucial in big data,machine learning,data mining,and intelligent *** are several ways for solving attribute reduction problems,but they all require a common *** selection of features in most scientific studies is a challenge for the *** working with huge datasets,selecting all available attributes is not an option because it frequently complicates the study and decreases *** the other side,neglecting some attributes might jeopardize data *** this case,rough set theory provides a useful approach for identifying superfluous attributes that may be ignored without sacrificing any significant information;nonetheless,investigating all available combinations of attributes will result in some ***,because attribute reduction is primarily a mathematical issue,technical progress in reduction is dependent on the advancement of mathematical *** the focus of this study is on the mathematical side of attribute reduction,we propose some methods to make a reduction for information systems according to classical rough set theory,the strength of rules and similarity matrix,we applied our proposed methods to several examples and calculate the reduction for each *** methods expand the options of attribute reductions for researchers.

Improving TC drill bit's efficiency and resistance to wear by graphene coating

Displaying a two-dimensional pure crystal carbon structure,Graphene is the strongest,yet thinnest substance discovered by *** tungsten carbide(TC)drill bits with graphene to evaluate the effect of graphene on the wear,as well as the rate of penetration of the drilling bit was examined in this *** evaluation approaches were employed:one with employing ANSYS Software and the second by employing atomic pressure chemical vapor deposition(APCVD synthesis)in the laboratory to produce a monolayer graphene *** simultaneous software-based and lab-based testing were performed to increase the credibility of the results and minimize the potential *** the simulation using ANSYS,the maximum shear elastic strain,equivalent elastic strain,equivalent(von mises)stress,total deformation and maximum shear stress were investigated prior and after the gra-phene coating was applied on TC simulated *** deformation was only slightly increased,while the maximum shear elastic strain was almost doubled,reflecting that the bit's wear was significantly reduced after the ***-based APCVD synthesis results showed 34%increase in compressive strength of the coated bit,in comparison to the uncoated *** failure occurred for uncoated bit at 35 MPa,where the coated bit experienced failure at 46.9 *** Von Mises stress test conducted on the coated and uncoated samples also indicated that this stress was 41%less for the coated bit,in comparison to the uncoated ***,two small-scale drilling operations,one using a 1inch graphene-coated TC bit and the other using a 1inch non-coated TC bit,were performed on a granite block,to evaluate the performance of the graphene-coated bit in *** a chosen 120-min time frame,27 consecutive holes could be drilled by the graphene-coated TC bit,while 19 consecutive holes could be drilled by the uncoated TC bit,in identical drilling *** implies a 42%increase in ROP.

Presentation of regression analysis,GP and GMDH models to predict the pedestrian density in various urban facilities

In this study,the relationship between space mean speed(SMS),flow rate and density of pedestrians was investigated in different pedestrian facilities,including 1 walkway,2 sidewalks,2 signalized crosswalks and 2 mid-block ***,statistical analysis was performed to investigate the normality of data and correlation of *** analysis was then applied to determine the relationship between SMS,flow rate,and density of ***,two prediction models of density were obtained using genetic programming(GP)and group method of data handling(GMDH)models,and k-fold and holdout cross-validation methods were used to evaluate the *** the use of regression analysis,the mathematical relationships between variables in all facilities were calculated and plotted,and the best relationships were observed in flow rate-density *** also indicated that GP had a higher R2 than GMDH in the prediction of pedestrian density in terms of flow rate and SMS,suggesting that GP was better able to model SMS and pedestrian ***,the application of k-fold cross-validation method in the models led to better performances compared to the holdout cross-validation method,which shows that the prediction models using k-fold were more ***,density relationships in all facilities were obtained in terms of SMS and flow rate.

A combined experimental and crystal plasticity study of grain size effects in magnesium alloys

This work presents a method to incorporate the micro Hall-Petch equation into the crystal plasticity finite element(CPFE) framework accounting for the microstructural features to understand the coupling between grain size, texture, and loading direction in magnesium *** effect of grain size and texture is accounted for by modifying the slip resistances of individual basal and prismatic systems based on the micro Hall-Petch equation. The modification based on the micro Hall-Petch equation endows every slip system at each microstructural point with a slip system-level grain size and maximum compatibility factor, which are in turn used to modify the slip resistance. While the slip-system level grain size is a measure of the grain size, the maximum compatibility factor encodes the effect of the grain boundary on the slip system resistance modification and is computed based on the Luster-Morris factor. The model is calibrated using experimental stress-strain curves of Mg-4Al samples with three different grain sizes from which the Hall-Petch coefficients are extracted and compared with Hall-Petch coefficients predicted using original parameters from previous work. The predictability of the model is then evaluated for a Mg-4Al sample with different texture and three grain sizes subjected to loading in different directions. The calibrated parameters are then used for some parametric studies to investigate the variation of Hall-Petch slope for different degrees of simulated spread in basal texture,variation of Hall-Petch slope with loading direction relative to basal poles for a microstructure with strong basal texture, and variation of yield strength with change in grain morphology. The proposed approach to incorporate the micro Hall-Petch equation into the CPFE framework provides a foundation to quantitatively model more complicated scenarios of coupling between grain size, texture and loading direction in the plasticity of Mg alloys.

Effects of non-liquefiable crust layer and superstructure mass on the response of 2×2 pile groups to liquefaction-induced lateral spreading

In this research,two shake table experiments were conducted to study the effects of non-liquefiable crust layer and superstructure mass on the responses of two sets of 22 pile groups to liquefactioninduced lateral *** this regard,an inclined base layer overlain by a very loose liquefiable layer was constructed in both models;while only in one model,a non-liquefiable crust layer was built.A lumped mass,being representative of a superstructure,was attached to the cap of one pile group in both *** models were fully instrumented with various sensors,including acceleration,displacement,and pore water pressure ***,the piles were instrumented with pair strain gauges to measure pure bending moments induced by cyclic and monotonic loadings associated with ground shaking and lateral spreading,*** results showed that the existence of the non-liquefiable crust layer increases both the maximum and residual soil displacements at the free field and also the maximum bending moments in the *** results of the experiments indicated that the crust layer induces a high kinematic lateral soil pressure and force on the piles which are not present in the crustless *** crust layer increases the pile cap displacement before liquefaction,albeit decreases it after liquefaction,due to the elastic rebound of the piles in the liquefiable *** crust layer postpones both liquefaction triggering and dissipation of excess pore water *** existence of the superstructure mass on the pile caps decreases the acceleration amplitude of the pile caps,while increases their maximum displacement.
