Livelihood status of small-scale fishermen and determinants of their income: Insights from north-eastern floodplains of Bangladesh

The small-scale fishermen in the north-eastern floodplains are one of the most vulnerable communities of Bangladesh due to their limited *** study assessed their livelihood status using a sustainable livelihood framework and employed a multiple regression model to evaluate factors influencing their *** data were collected from fishermen’s households in Tanguar Haor and Hakaluki Haor through direct *** revealed that these households lacked human capital,had poor sanitation facilities and suffered from frequent *** income is very limited as they lack training on other socioeconomic activities to comple-ment their livelihood grounded on ***,their financial capital was very deficient and ranked lowest among other livelihood ***’s major physical assets were the boats used for group and individual *** small-scale fishermen had limited involvement with local administration,and around half of them were members of various *** of these households had low participation in fishing or other income *** income of the fishermen was influenced by their age,fish catch per day,training and NGO *** increase the earnings and improve the livelihood status of small-scale fishers in the floodplain,this study suggests providing training on complementary income generating activities,improving sanitation facilities and providing additional government and non-government support.

Transcriptome-Based Examination of Putative Pollen Allergens of Rice （Oryza sativa ssp. japonica）

Pollen allergens are among the most abundantly transcribed and translated products in the life history of plants, and particularly grasses. To identify different pollen allergens in rice, putative allergens were identified in the rice genome and their expression characterized using the Affymetrix 57K rice GeneChip microarray. Among the most abundant pollen-specific candidate transcripts were Ory s 1 beta-expansin, Ory s 2, Ory s 7 EF hand, Q ry s 11, Ory s 12 profilin A, Ory s 23, glycosyl hydrolase family 28 （polygalacturonase）, and FAD binding proteins. Highly expressed pollen proteins are frequently present in multiple copy numbers, sometimes with mirror images located on nearby regions of the opposite DNA strand. Many of these are intronless and inserted as copies that retain nearly exact copies of their regulatory elements. Ory s 23 reflects low variability and high copy number, suggesting recent gene amplification. some copies contain pseudogenes, which may reflect their origin through activity of retrotransposition; some putative allergenic sequences bear fusion products with repeat sequences of transposable elements （LTRs）. The abundance of nearby repetitive sequences, activation of transposable elements, and high production of mRNA transcripts appear to coincide in pollen and may contribute to a syndrome in which highly transcribed proteins may be copied and inserted with streamlined features for translation, including grouping and removal of introns.

Low-and middle-income countries faced significant challenges in accessing COVID-19 vaccines during the early stages of the *** this study,we utilized an agestructured modeling approach to examine the implications of various vaccination strategies,vaccine prioritization,and vaccine rollout speeds in Thailand,an upper-middleincome country experiencing vaccine shortages during the early stages of the *** model directly compares the effectiveness of several vaccination strategies,including the heterologous vaccination where CoronaVac(CV)vaccine was administered as the first dose,followed by ChAdOx1 nCoV-19(AZ)vaccine as the second dose,under varying disease transmission *** found that the traditional AZ homologous vaccination was more effective than the CV homologous vaccination,regardless of disease transmission ***,combining CV and AZ vaccines via either parallel homologous or heterologous vaccinations was more effective than relying solely on AZ homologous ***,prioritizing vaccination for the elderly aged 60 years and above was the most effective way to reduce mortality when community transmission is *** the other hand,prioritizing workers aged 20e59 was most effective in lowering COVID-19 cases,irrespective of the transmission ***,despite the vaccine prioritization strategy,rapid vaccine rollout speeds were crucial in reducing COVID-19 infections and *** findings suggested that in low-and middle-income countries where early access to high-efficacy vaccines might be limited,obtaining any accessible vaccines as early as possible and using them in parallel with other higherefficacy vaccines might be a better strategy than waiting for and relying solely on higher-efficacy vaccines.

Influence of ageing on oil degradation and gassing tendency under high-energy electrical discharge faults for mineral oil and synthetic ester

In this work, mineral oil and synthetic esters were selected at different ageing factors (based on acidity values). Fresh and aged oils have been subjected to high-energy discharges (repeated 100 breakdowns) to simulate electric faults of highly vulnerable intensity. The intent of this work is to understand the influence of high-energy electric faults on oil degradation and gassing tendency at different ageing conditions. In this study, the influence of the high-energy discharges on degradation and gassing tendency at different ageing factors is reported for mineral oil and synthetic esters. Oil degradation is reported by adopting ultraviolet spectroscopy, turbidity and particle counter as per american society for testing and materials (AsTM) standard test methods. Gassing tendencies and fault gas analysis are understood by dissolved the gas analysis using Duval's triangle and Duval's pentagon methods for mineral and non-mineral oils. It is found that the influence of high-energy discharges on oil degradation is higher in mineral oils to that of the synthetic esters. The intensity of the gassing tendency is higher for ester fluids;however, as per the Duval methods, the faulty conditions are at lower levels as compared to mineral oils.

Groundwater assists farmers to irrigate crops for fulfilling the crop-water *** agriculture system is characterized by three cropping seasons known as Kharif(monsoon),Rabi(post-monsoon)and summer(pre-monsoon).In tropical countries like India,monitoring cropping practices using optical remote sensing during Kharif and Rabi seasons is constraint due to the cloud cover,which can be well addressed by microwave remote *** the proposed research,the strength of C-band polarimetric synthetic Aperture Radar(sAR)time series images were evaluated to classify groundwater irrigated croplands for the Kharif and Rabi cropping seasons of the year *** present study was performed in the Berambadi experimental watershed of Kabini river basin,southern peninsular India.A total of fifteen polarimetric variables were estimated includes four backscattering coefficients(HH,HV,VH,VV)and eleven polarimetric indices for all Radarsat-2 sAR *** cumulative temporal sum(seasonal and dual-season)of these parameters was supervised classified using support Vector Machine(sVM)classifier with intensive ground observation *** results using the best equation(highest accuracy and kappa)shows that the Kharif,Rabi and irrigated double croplands are respectively 9.58 km2(20.6%),16.14 km2(34.7%)and 6.22 km2(13.4%)with a kappa coefficient respectively 0.84,0.74 and 0.94.

Depression and suicidal Ideations among Older Persons Living with HIV/AIDs in Mbarara City, southwest Uganda

Background: Due to the increase in longevity and use of antiretroviral treatment, Uganda has had a growing population of older persons living with HIV/AIDs. However, there is a paucity of information on the mental health of the elderly living with HIV/AIDs. In this cross-sectional study, we determined the prevalence of, and associated factors for depression and suicidal ideation among older persons living with HIV/AIDs in Mbarara city, southwest Uganda. Methods: Older persons (150 females, 115 males), with mean age = 64.2 (±5.1) years, accessing health services from three purposively selected HIV/AIDs care centers in Mbarara city, southwest Uganda were recruited. Data on depression and suicidal ideation were collected using a Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) validated in Uganda, and a structured questionnaire was used to collect data on clinical and socio-demographic characteristics. Data were analysed using logistic regression. Results: Approximately 8.3% and 12.1% had depression and suicidal ideation, respectively. The factors associated with lowering the likelihood of depression were: an increase in the number of family members they stayed with and having no having any problems with their ARVs. On the other hand, earning more than 100,000 Uganda shillings was associated with reducing the risk of suicidal ideations among the participants. Conclusion: Approximately 8 to 12 in 100 older persons living with HIV/AIDs in Uganda have experienced depression or suicidal ideation. Family support and financial control were instrumental factors associated with depression and suicidal ideations, respectively. We recommended strengthening family structures and creating more avenues for financial independence among older persons living with HIV/AIDs to reduce the burden of depression, and suicidal behaviours among this vulnerable population.

signature of the hydrogen-bonded environment of liquid water in X-ray emission spectra from first-principles calculations

Based on ab initio molecular dynamics simulations and density functional theory, we performed a systematic theoretical study to elucidate the correlation between the H-bonded environment and X- ray emission spectra of liquid water. The spectra generated from excited water molecules embedded in an intact H-bonded environment yield broader spectral peaks and a larger spectral range than the spectra generated from water molecules in a broken H-bonded environment. such differences are caused by the local electronic structures on the excited water molecules within the core-hole lifetime that evolve differently through the rearrangement of neighboring water molecules in different H-bonded environments.

Prophylactic effects of asiaticoside-based standardized extract of Centella asiatica(L.) Urban leaves on experimental migraine: Involvement of 5HT1A/1B receptors

The present study aimed at evaluation of prophylactic efficacy and possible mechanisms of asiaticoside(As) based standardized extract of Centella asiatica(L.) Urban leaves(INDCA) in animal models of migraine. The effects of oral and intranasal(i.n.) pretreatment of INDCA(acute and 7-days subacute) were evaluated against nitroglycerine(NTG, 10 mg·kg-1, i.p.) and bradykinin(BK, 10 μg, intra-arterial) induced hyperalgesia in rats. Tail flick latencies(from 0 to 240 min) post-NTG treatment and the number of vocalizations post-BK treatment were recorded as a measure of hyperalgesia. separate groups of rats for negative(Normal) and positive(sumatriptan, 42 mg·kg-1, s.c.) controls were included. The interaction of INDCA with selective 5-HT1 A, 5-HT1 B, and 5-HT1 D receptor antagonists(NAN-190, Isamoltane hemifumarate, and BRL-15572 respectively) against NTG-induced hyperalgesia was also evaluated. Acute and sub-acute pre-treatment of INDCA [10 and 30 mg·kg-1(oral) and 100 μg/rat(i.n.) showed significant anti-nociception activity, and reversal of the NTG-induced hyperalgesia and brain 5-HT concentration decline. Oral pre-treatment with INDCA(30 mg·kg-1, 7 d) showed significant reduction in the number of vocalization. The anti-nociceptive effects of INDCA were blocked by 5-HT1 A and 5-HT1 B but not 5-HT1 D receptor antagonists. In conclusion, INDCA demonstrated promising anti-nociceptive effects in animal models of migraine, probably through 5-HT1A/1B medicated action.
