Among the most consolidated dogmas in obstetrics, we have the essential role of oxytocin during: labor by regulating, consolidating uterine contractions, by supporting the expulsive efforts of the patient during childbirth and after childbirth by preventing postpartum hemorrhage. But what challenged us to conduct our study is the large and increasing number of surgical operations for postpartum hemorrhage in patients who received oxytocin during labor. We assumed that the generalization use of oxytocin in all patients during labor is probably responsible of this increasing rate of incidents. To verify this assumption, we carried out a prospective randomized comparative study, involving 3990 pregnant patients admitted at the start of labor at term, with no contraindication for giving birth by normal ways, during a period of 10 months (January-October 2022). The patients have been divided into 2 groups. The first group comprises 1991 patients who were placed on admission on a glucose serum infusion with 4 ampoules of a non-anticholinergic musculotropic antispasmodic: “Hydrated phloroglucinol + trimethylphloroglucinol” (Each ampoule contains 40 mg of hydrated phloroglucinol and 0.04 mg of trimethylphloroglucinol) instead of receiving oxytocin during the active phase of their labor and a second group consisting of 1999 patients who received oxytocin during the active phase of their labor. The results were very surprising and contrary to the already consolidated evidence in our specialty. Indeed, the rate of postpartum hemorrhages was 10 patients (0.5%) in the 1st group vs 30 patients (1.5%) in the 2nd group, 9 patients (0.4%) presented fetal heart rate abnormalities in the 1st group vs 90 (4.5%) in the 2nd group, 8 cases (0.4%) of dynamic dystocia in the 1st group vs 132 cases (6.6%) in the 2nd group and 99 caesareans (5%) in the 1st group vs 299 (15%) in the 2nd group. Against all expectations the results were very surprising, with more details in the article.

Objective: The aim of the work is to study the relationship between Red blood cell osmotic fragility and level of parathyroid hormone in patients with different stages of Chronic Kidney Disease including End Stage Renal Disease. Background: Anaemia is one of the common complications associated with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) responsible for the increase in the morbidity and mortality in such patients. Several factors have been attributed to causing renal anaemia, amongst which hyperparathyroidism is one of the less recognised reasons. The level of PTH in early stages of chronic kidney disease has not been much studied. The excess amount of Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) secondary to CKD has been suggested to be a causative factor for anaemia. Method: A number of chronic kidney disease patients were studied for the relationship between Red cell osmotic fragility and level of parathyroid hormone. Results: This study was conducted on a number of 111 patients with chronic kidney disease classified into three groups. The study revealed a significant fall in Hb%, along with a rise in Median Osmotic Fragility (MOF) and PTH in the CKD patients. iPTH and MOF were significantly lower in group 3 as compared with cases in group 1. Also, iPTH and MOF were significantly lower in cases in group 2 as compared with cases in group 1. Conclusions

The aim of the present study was to investigate the status of oxidative stress in the serum of children affected with autism spectrum disorder. Twenty autistic children aged 3 to 12 years, were gender and age-matched with 20 typically developing children. Changes in the levels of the redox-sensing transcription factor nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) was measured in serum of autistic children and controls. Other oxidative stress biomarkers such as malondialdehyde, reduced glutathione, total antioxidant capacity, catalase activity, and paraoxonase 1 activity were determined in serum as well. Significant increase was observed in serum NF-κB of autistic children compared to that in controls (by 138.6%). There was also marked increase in malondialdehyde level by 87.3% in autistic patients. Meanwhile, there were significant decreases in reduced glutathione (by 24%), catalase activity (by 40.8%), paraoxonase 1 activity (by 36.6%), and total antioxidant capacity (by 36.5%) compared to the control group. These data clearly demonstrate increased oxidative stress in serum of autistic children and suggest that the NF-κB signaling pathway is activated in autism, possibly due to increased oxidative burden.

Background: Electronic cigarette (e-cigs) smoking is substitutional to traditional cigarette smoking to reduce the dangerous combustion of products. Moreover, passive smoking is involuntarily tobacco smoking due to the exposure to cigarette or tobacco smoke among non-smokers and due to there being little knowledge about the impact of passive e-cigs smoking on periodontal status and salivary pH. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of e-cigs smoking habit on periodontal tissue and salivary pH among some passive e-cigs smokers referred to the college of dentistry clinics, King Khalid University. Material and Methods: Ninety male participants who were referred to the college of dentistry clinics at King Khalid University were included in the study. Age, gender, e-cigs smoking, and general health were recorded. The participants were divided into three equal groups (n = 30) as follows: Group I (Non-passive e-cigs smokers and non-smokers) as the control group, Group II (e-cigs users), and Group III (Passive e-cigs smokers). Salivary pH, plaque control record (PCR), gingival bleeding index (GBI), clinical attachment loss (CAL), percentage of radiographic bone loss (% RBL), periodontal pocket depth (PPD), more than 5 missing teeth due to periodontal diseases (>5 MTDP), tooth mobility (TM), furcation involvement (FI), Bite collapse (BC), and less than 20 remaining teeth (10 Opposing pairs) (L20RT) as well as HbA1c were recorded. ANOVA test was used to the comparison between Groups I, II, and III in the participants’ ages and periodontitis staging clinical findings. Aim： To evaluate for the first time the frequency of Y chromosome microdeletions and the occurrence of the partial deletions of AZFc region in Moroccan men, and to discuss the clinical significance of AZF deletions. Methods： We screened Y chromosome microdeletions and partial deletions of the AZFc region of a consecutive group of infertile men （n = 149） and controls （100 fertile men, 76 normospermic men）. AZFa, AZFb, AZFc and partial deletions of the AZFc region were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction （PCR） according to established protocols. Results： Among the 127 infertile men screened for microdeletion, four subjects were found to have microdeletions： two AZFc deletions and two AZFb＋AZFc deletions. All the deletions were found only in azoospermic subjects （4/48, 8.33%）. The overall AZFc deletion frequency was low （4/127, 3.15%）. AZF microdeletions were not observed in either oligoasthenoteratozoospermia （OATS） or the control. Partial deletions of AZFc （gr/gr） were observed in a total of 7 of the 149 infertile men （4.70%） and 7 partial AZFc deletions （gr/gr） were found in the control group （7/176, 3.98%）. In addition, two b2/b3 deletions were identified in two azoospermic subjects （2/149, 1.34%） but not in the control group. Conclusion： Our results suggest that the frequency of Y chromosome AZF microdeletions is elevated in individuals with severe spermatogenic failure and that gr/gr deletions are not associated with spermatogenic failure.

Genetic Diversity of the Palestinian Fig (<i>Ficus carica</i>L.) Collection by Pomological Traits and RAPD Markers

Analysis of differentiation (genetic diversity and related relationships) among 22 landrace (Ficus carica L. sativa) and 2 wild form (F. carica L. caprificus) accessions of fig growing under the same environmental conditions in the Palestinian Fig Collection, Til, Nablus, Palestine, using PCR-based Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and pomological markers, revealed considerable genetic diversity. The phenotypic analysis shows that pomological traits were permitted to evaluate morphological variability of fig landraces. The Jaccard similarity coefficient between landraces was determined by cluster analysis using the UPGMA method. Based on the genetic relationships among genotypes as illustrated by the dendrograms, generated from pomological and RAPD data by UPGMA clustering method, the following 12 genotypes: Qaisi, Mwazi, Barqawi, Inaqi, Swadi, Kharobi, Hmadibiadi, Sfari, Khdari, Biadi, Qrawi, and Slati, may be considered as distinct landraces. The remaining genotypes may be considered as synonymous (4) (Hmadi and Hmari, and Ajloni and Adloni), or closely related (6) landraces (Zraqi and Ghzali, Blati and Neami, and Qraee and Khurtmani). The wild fig forms clustered together and may be considered as distinct genotypes. Clustering patterns obtained from the combined (pomological and RAPD) markers had higher discriminatory power to discriminate fig landraces than using either pomological or RAPD markers alone. These results proved the importance of both pomological and RAPD markers to elucidate in part denomination problems and relationships among cultivars. Wide phenotypic and molecular diversity found in fig germplasm indicates a considerable potential for improving this crop.

Background: Nutritional status of mothers is considered one of the major problems facing mothers in the world. The nutrition plays a major role in mothers and child health. Objective: This study aims to assess mothers’ nutritional status and its determinants in Alemtidad area, Khartoum. Methods: A descriptive community based survey was conducted in the Alemtidad area of Khartoum between November 2012 and December 2012. One hundred and eighty mothers were selected by simple randomization. Data were collected by using structured designed questionnaire which was then analyzed by (SPSS) program version 20. Results: The study conducted among mothers in Alemtidad area;their age ranged between 19 and 86 years with the mean age 38 ± 12 years. From those mothers about half were unemployed, and having mainly primary and secondary educational level. 81.1% of mothers were not able to select the proper food according to age and nutrients and about 71.1% of mothers took two meals per day and 23.3% one meals per day, and only 5.6 take three meals per day. The Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated to measure the nutrition status of mothers;this study shows that mothers in Alemtidad are mainly overweight and obese, 45.6% and 18% respectively and only 35% within normal range of Body Mass Index (BMI). Conclusion: The study concludes that mothers are either overweight or obese (45.6%, 17.7% respectively). Compared to national and international statistics the findings of this study reflect high Body Mass Index (BMI) of mothers in Alemtidad.

Activating transcription factor 2(ATF2)is a member of the leucine zipper family of DNA binding proteins that are responsible for regulating various genes that play an essential role in major biological and cellular *** ATF2 plays a vital role in cellular proliferation and apoptosis,it is believed that it greatly affects the development of breast ***,its exact role in breast cancer is incompletely *** remains a subject of debate,ambiguity,and continuous *** studies have suggested the role of ATF2 as an oncogene,promoting cellular proliferation and worsening the outcome of *** contrast,other studies have postulated that ATF2 plays a tumor suppressive role in estrogen receptor-positive breast *** ambiguity surrounding its role in breast cancer is the reason why there is an influx of recent studies and research in this *** this narrative review,we investigate several studies that have been published about the role of ATF2 in breast *** also explore studies that have examined the association between ATF2 and endocrine therapy ***2 has been suggested to modulate estrogen receptor(ER)expression and activity,potentially affecting tamoxifen sensitivity in breast cancer ***,the role of ATF2 in DNA repair mechanisms and drug resistance has been deeply explored in this ***,there are numerous ongoing clinical trials exploring the effect of targeting ATF2 pathways and mechanisms on the outcome of breast cancers,some of which we have *** studies and clinical trials that are being conducted to understand the multifaceted role of ATF2 and its signaling pathways may provide valuable insight for developing efficient targeted therapeutic solutions to enhance the outcomes of breast cancer and overcome endocrine *** suggest further research to elucidate the dual roles of ATF2 in breast cancer and potential therapeutic therapies for its treatment.
