Drainage vs. non-drainage after cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis:a retrospective study

Many surgeons practice prophylactic drainage after cholecystectomy without reliable evidence,this study was conducted to answer the question whether to drain or not to drain after cholecystectomy for acute calculous cholecystitis.A retrospective review of all patients who had cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis in Aseer Central Hospital,Abha,Saudi Arabia,was conducted from April 2010 to April *** were extracted from hospital case *** data included clinical presentation,routine investigations and liver function *** data included excessive adhesions,bleeding,bile leak,and drain *** cases such as pericholecystic collections,mucocele and empyema were also *** who needed therapeutic drainage were *** data included hospital stay,volume of drained fluid,time of drain removal,and drain site *** study included 103 patients allocated into two groups;group A（n = 38） for patients with operative drain insertion and group B（n = 65） for patients without drain *** number of patients with preoperative diagnosis of acute non-complicated cholecystitis was significantly greater in group B（80%） than group A（36.8%）（P 〈 0.001）.Operative time was significantly longer in group *** patients who were converted from laparoscopic to open cholecystectomy were in group *** analysis revealed that hospital stay was significantly（P 〈 0.001） longer in patients with preoperative *** was no added benefit for prophylactic drain insertion after cholecystectomy for acute calculous cholecystitis in non-complicated or in complicated cases.

Blade Wrap Angle impact on Centrifugal Pump Performance:Entropy Generation and Fluid-Structure interaction Analysis

The centrifugal pump is a prevalent power equipment widely used in different engineering patterns,and the impeller blade wrap angle significantly impacts its performance.A numerical investigation was conducted to analyze the influence of the blade wrap angle on flow characteristics and energy distribution of a centrifugal pump evaluated as a low specific speed with a value of *** study investigates six impellermodels that possess varying blade wrap angles(95°,105°,115°,125°,135°,and 145°)that were created while maintaining the same volute and other geometrical *** investigation of energy loss was conducted to evaluate the values of total and entropy generation rates(TEG,EGR).The fluid-structure interaction was considered numerically using the software tools ANSYS Fluent and *** elastic structural dynamic equation was used to estimate the structural response,while the shear stress transport k–ωturbulence model was utilized for the fluid domain *** findings suggest that the blade wrap angle has a significant influence on the efficiency of the *** impeller featuring a blade wrap angle of 145°exhibits higher efficiency,with a notable increase of 3.76%relative to the original *** in the blade wrap angle impact the energy loss,shaft power,and pump *** model with a 145°angle exhibited a maximum equivalent stress of 14.8MPa and a total deformation of 0.084 *** results provide valuable insights into the intricate flow mechanism of the centrifugal pump,particularly when considering various blade wrap angles.

The road construction industry aims to contribute to the protection of already compromised *** mix asphalt(CMA)is a measure initiated by the road industry to protect the environment and preserve *** having additional benefits,CMA has attracted little attention due to its inferior ***'s performance is enhanced using a sustainable binder bio-modifier,natural cup lump rubber(CLR)is one of *** study evaluated the tensile properties,rutting,moisture susceptibility,and adhesion properties of CLR-modified CMA(CMA-CR).The tensile property was enhanced by 26%due to CLR ***-CR had excellent rutting resistance of less than 2 mm rut depth at 10,000 load cycles,showing 70%improvement compared with conventional *** susceptibility evaluation indicated that CMA-CR had tensile strength ratio(TSR)value of 104%,satisfying the minimum 80%requirement of AASHTO *** also retained more than 96%bitumen *** moisture damage resistance was improved by 12%and 10%in terms of TSR and stripping,*** durability results revealed that the CMA-CR mixture prevented higher mass loss,representing 14%improvement compared with conventional CMA.

Organic dye pollutants present in wastewater pose a significant global challenge. Among pollutants, the synthetic dye Rhodamine B(RB) stands out due to its non-biodegradable nature and associated neurotoxic, carcinogenic,and respiratory irritant properties. Extensive research has been conducted on the efficacy of adsorption and photodegradation techniques for the removal of RB from wastewater. While adsorption and advanced oxidation processes(AOPs) have gained considerable attention for their effectiveness in recent years, the underlying behaviors and mechanisms of these technologies remain incompletely understood. Therefore, a comprehensive of recent research progress in this domain is imperative to clarify the basics and present the up-to-date *** review provides an in-depth exploration of the fundamentals, advancements, and future trajectories of RB wastewater treatment technologies, mainly encompassing adsorption and photodegradation. This work starts with a general introduction of outlining the sources, toxicity, and diverse applicable removal strategies. Subsequently, it thoroughly examines crucial techniques within non-photochemical, photochemical, and adsorption technologies, such as UV light assisted AOP, catalyst assisted AOP, ozonation, Fenton system, electrochemical AOP, and adsorption technology. The primary objective is to furnish a broad overview of these techniques,elucidating their effectiveness, limitations, and applicability. Following this, the review encapsulates state-of-theart computational simulations pertaining to RB adsorption and interactions with clays and other ***, it delves into column adsorption of RB dye, and elucidates various influencing factors, including bed height, feed concentration, pollutant(RB) feeding or flow rate, and column regeneration. This paper presents a smart checkout system designed to mitigate the issues of noise and errors present in the existing barcode and RFiD-based systems used at retail stores’checkout *** is achieved by integrating a novel Ai algorithm,called improved Laser Simulator Logic(iLSL)into the RFiD *** enhanced RFiD system was able to improve the accuracy of item identification,reduce noise interference,and streamline the overall checkout *** potential of the systemfor noise detection and elimination was initially investigated through a simulation study usingMATLAB and iLSL ***,it was deployed in a small-scale environment to validate its real-world *** show that RFiD with the proposed new algorithm iLSL and Ai basket is capable of accurately detecting the related itemswhile eliminating noise originating fromunrelated objects,achieving an accuracy rate of 88%.

BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COViD-19)has been shown to increase the risk of ***,the prevalence and risk of recurrent stroke in COViD-19 patients with prior stroke/transient ischemic attack(TiA),as well as its impact on mor-tality,are not *** To evaluate the impact of COViD-19 on in-hospital mortality,length of stay,and healthcare costs in patients with recurrent *** We identified admissions of recurrent stroke(current acute ischemic stroke admissions with at least one prior TiA or stroke)in patients with and without COViD-19 using iCD-10-CM codes using the National inpatient Sample(2020).We analyzed the impact of COViD-19 on mortality following recurrent stroke admissions by *** Of 97455 admissions with recurrent stroke,2140(2.2%)belonged to the COViD-19-positive *** COViD-19-positive group had a higher prevalence of diabetes and chronic kidney disease vs the COViD-19 negative group(Pients aged>65 years,patients aged 45–64 years,Asians,Hispanics,whites,and blacks in the COViD-19 positive group had higher rates of all-cause mortality than the COViD-19 negative group(Pigher odds of in-hospital mortality were seen in the group aged 45-64(OR:8.40,95%Ci:4.18-16.91)vs the group aged>65(OR:7.04,95%Ci:5.24-9.44),males(OR:7.82,95%Ci:5.38-11.35)compared to females(OR:6.15,95%Ci:4.12-9.18),and in Hispanics(OR:15.47,95%Ci:7.61-31.44)and Asians/Pacific islanders(OR:14.93,95%Ci:7.22-30.87)compared to blacks(OR:5.73,95%Ci:3.08-10.68),and whites(OR:5.54,95%Ci:3.79-8.09).CONCLUSiON The study highlights the increased risk of all-cause in-hospital mortality in recurrent stroke patients with COViD-19,with a more pronounced increase in middle-aged patients,males,Hispanics,or Asians.
