Robust Multi-Output Machine Learning Regression for Seismic Hazard Model Using Peak Crust Acceleration Case Study,Turkey,Iraq and Iran

This paper for the first time improved a Robust Multi-Output machine learning regression model for seismic hazard zoning of Turkey, Iraq and Iran using constructed 3-D shear-wave velocity(Vs), seismic tomography dataset model for the crust and uppermost mantle beneath the study area. The focus of this paper’s opportunity is to develop a scientific framework leveraging machine learning that will ultimately provide the rapid and more complete characterization of earthquake properties. This work can be targeted at improving the seismic hazard zones system ability to detect and associate seismic signals, or at estimating other seismic characteristics(crust acceleration and crust energy) while traditionally, methods cannot monitor the earthquakes system. This work has derived some physical equations for extraction of many variables as inputs for our developed machine learning model based on a reliable understanding of the tomography data to physical variables by preparing huge dataset from different physical conditions of crust. We have extracted the velocity values of the shear waves from the original NETCDF file, which contains the S velocity values for every one km of the depths of the crust for the study area from one km down to the uppermost mantle beneath the Middle East. For the first time, this study calculated new seismic hazard parameter called Peak Crust Acceleration(PCA) for seismic hazard analysis by considering the transmitted initial seismic energy through the Earthy wrote in python language ’s crust layers from hypocenter. All machine learning algorithms in this studusing anaconda platform the open-source Individual Edition(Distribution).

The Internet of Things(IoT)is currently reflected in the increase in the number of connected objects,that is,devices with their own identity and computing and communication capacities.IoT is recognized as one of the most critical areas for future technologies,gaining worldwide attention.It applies to many areas,where it has achieved success,such as healthcare,where a patient is monitored using nodes and lightweight sensors.However,the powerful functions of IoT in the medical field are based on communication,analysis,processing,and management of data autonomously without any manual intervention,which presents many difficulties,such as energy consumption.However,these issues significantly slow down the development and rapid deployment of this technology.The main causes of wasted energy from connected objects include collisions that occur when two or more nodes send data simultaneously and the leading cause of data retransmission that occurs when a collision occurs or when data are not received correctly due to channel fading.The distance between nodes is one of the factors influencing energy consumption.In this article,we have proposed direct communication between nodes to avoid collision domains,which will help reduce data retransmission.The results show that the distribution can ensure the performance of the system under general conditions compared to the centralization and to the existing works.

Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs)have hardware and software limitations and are deployed in hostile environments.The problem of energy consumption in WSNs has become a very important axis of research.To obtain good performance in terms of the network lifetime,several routing protocols have been proposed in the literature.Hierarchical routing is considered to be the most favorable approach in terms of energy efficiency.It is based on the concept parent-child hierarchy where the child nodes forward their messages to their parent,and then the parent node forwards them,directly or via other parent nodes,to the base station(sink).In this paper,we present a new Energy-Efficient clustering protocol for WSNs using an Objective Function and Random Search with Jumps(EEOFRSJ)in order to reduce sensor energy consumption.First,the objective function is used to find an optimal cluster formation taking into account the ratio of the mean Euclidean distance of the nodes to their associated cluster heads(CH)and their residual energy.Then,we find the best path to transmit data from the CHs nodes to the base station(BS)using a random search with jumps.We simulated our proposed approach compared with the Energy-Efficient in WSNs using Fuzzy C-Means clustering(EEFCM)protocol using Matlab Simulink.Simulation results have shown that our proposed protocol excels regarding energy consumption,resulting in network lifetime extension.

The majority of global deaths are attributed to one of the noncommunicable diseases(NCDs),and cancer is projected to be the leading cause of death worldwide in the 21st century(1).There were 18.1 million incident cancer cases worldwide in 2018,43.8 million are living with cancer and 9.6 million deaths from cancer.One in 6 deaths is due to cancer and these numbers are projected to rise to 13 million by 2030,more than that from tuberculosis,malaria and HIV/AIDS combined.In addition,the total annual global cost of cancer was estimated at around US$1.16 trillion,representing a significant burden on health care systems and families(1).

Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs) as (i) Type in the Photovoltaic Cell of Nano-Dimensions

In this paper, a new modified approach to design the photovoltaic cell has been presented by adding Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs) as type (i). The main issue is to increase the efficiency of the photovoltaic cell, on the other hand, to exploit a larger range of electromagnetic wave frequencies, specifically a range within terahertz (THz) frequency domain, using 3D EM computer simulation technology (CST). It is clear in the normal PV cell start working at frequency of 500 THz, while the frequency at which the PV cell with SWCNTs operates is much less and it is close to zero, on the other hand, the PV cell with SWCNTs needs a larger cross-section area of 2800 nm2 to operate at frequency of 500 THz. This cell can be easily produced industrially, which means increases the efficiency of solar cell.

Drainage vs. non-drainage after cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis:a retrospective study

Many surgeons practice prophylactic drainage after cholecystectomy without reliable evidence,this study was conducted to answer the question whether to drain or not to drain after cholecystectomy for acute calculous cholecystitis.A retrospective review of all patients who had cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis in Aseer Central Hospital,Abha,Saudi Arabia,was conducted from April 2010 to April 2012.Data were extracted from hospital case files.Preoperative data included clinical presentation,routine investigations and liver function tests.Operative data included excessive adhesions,bleeding,bile leak,and drain insertion.Complicated cases such as pericholecystic collections,mucocele and empyema were also reported.Patients who needed therapeutic drainage were excluded.Postoperative data included hospital stay,volume of drained fluid,time of drain removal,and drain site problems.The study included 103 patients allocated into two groups;group A（n = 38） for patients with operative drain insertion and group B（n = 65） for patients without drain insertion.The number of patients with preoperative diagnosis of acute non-complicated cholecystitis was significantly greater in group B（80%） than group A（36.8%）（P 〈 0.001）.Operative time was significantly longer in group A.All patients who were converted from laparoscopic to open cholecystectomy were in group A.Multivariate analysis revealed that hospital stay was significantly（P 〈 0.001） longer in patients with preoperative complications.There was no added benefit for prophylactic drain insertion after cholecystectomy for acute calculous cholecystitis in non-complicated or in complicated cases.

Investigation into the effect of friction decay factor on the modelling and attenuation of stick-slip vibrations of oilwell drilling systems

The self-excited stick-slip oscillations of oilwell drillstrings are attributed to the nonlinear interaction between the drill-bit and the rock formation.Development of more accurate models will lead to improved predictions allowing more potential for successful suppression of the drillstring vibrations,thus reducing damage to the drilling system,prevention of expensive failures and increased output from the oilwell.In this paper,the effect of the transition from static friction to Coulomb friction on modelling of stick-slip phenomenon of oil well drill string is investigated through an analysis of the so called‘decay factor’.Based on a distributed-lumped parameter model(DLPM)of the drilling system,the governing equations of motion for the system are obtained.By using different values of decay factor(low,high and medium),the stick-slip vibrations of the drill string are validated against published data from full-scale drill strings.The results from the simulation show that lowering the decay factor increases the critical speed and thus reduces the propensity for stick slip motion.However,a reduction in the decay factor also has the effect of inducing worse stick-slip motion once the critical speed has been reached.The results indicate the wider impact of both correct modelling of the decay factor,but also the importance of correct characterisation of the mud viscosity and drill/well contact for more accurate selection of drilling parameters in the field.

Redundant Transmission Control Algorithm for Information-Centric Vehicular IoT Networks

Vehicular Adhoc Networks(VANETs)enable vehicles to act as mobile nodes that can fetch,share,and disseminate information about vehicle safety,emergency events,warning messages,and passenger infotainment.However,the continuous dissemination of information fromvehicles and their one-hop neighbor nodes,Road Side Units(RSUs),and VANET infrastructures can lead to performance degradation of VANETs in the existing hostcentric IP-based network.Therefore,Information Centric Networks(ICN)are being explored as an alternative architecture for vehicular communication to achieve robust content distribution in highly mobile,dynamic,and errorprone domains.In ICN-based Vehicular-IoT networks,consumer mobility is implicitly supported,but producer mobility may result in redundant data transmission and caching inefficiency at intermediate vehicular nodes.This paper proposes an efficient redundant transmission control algorithm based on network coding to reduce data redundancy and accelerate the efficiency of information dissemination.The proposed protocol,called Network Cording Multiple Solutions Scheduling(NCMSS),is receiver-driven collaborative scheduling between requesters and information sources that uses a global parameter expectation deadline to effectively manage the transmission of encoded data packets and control the selection of information sources.Experimental results for the proposed NCMSS protocol is demonstrated to analyze the performance of ICN-vehicular-IoT networks in terms of caching,data retrieval delay,and end-to-end application throughput.The end-to-end throughput in proposed NCMSS is 22%higher(for 1024 byte data)than existing solutions whereas delay in NCMSS is reduced by 5%in comparison with existing solutions.

Brain metabolic profile assessed by magnetic resonance spectroscopy in children with Down syndrome:Relation to intelligence quotient

BACKGROUND Down syndrome(DS)is one of the most common causes of intellectual disability.Children with DS have varying intelligence quotient(IQ)that can predict their learning abilities.AIM To assess the brain metabolic profiles of children with DS and compare them to standard controls,using magnetic resonance spectroscopy(MRS)and correlating the results with IQ.METHODS This case-control study included 40 children with DS aged 6-15 years and 40 age and sex-matched healthy children as controls.MRS was used to evaluate ratios of choline/creatine(Cho/Cr),N-acetyl aspartic acid/creatine(NAA/Cr),and myoinositol/creatine(MI/Cr(in the frontal,temporal,and occipital lobes and basal ganglia and compared to controls and correlated with IQ.RESULTS Children with DS showed significant reductions in NAA/Cr and MI/Cr and a non-significant reduction in Cho/Cr in frontal lobes compared to controls.Additionally,we observed significant decreases in NAA/Cr,MI/Cr,and Cho/Cr in the temporal and occipital lobes and basal ganglia in children with DS compared to controls.Furthermore,there was a significant correlation between IQ and metabolic ratios in the brains of children with DS.CONCLUSION Brain metabolic profile could be a good predictor of IQ in children with DS.

Swelling ability and behaviour of bentonite-based materials for deep repository engineered barrier systems:Influence of physical,chemical and thermal factors

Compacted bentonite-sand(B/S)mixtures have been used as a barrier material in engineered barrier systems(EBSs)of deep geological repositories(DGR)to store nuclear wastes.This study investigates the individual and combined effects of different chemical compositions of deep groundwaters(chemical factor)at potential repository sites in Canada(the Trenton and Guelph regions in Ontario),heat generated in DGRs(thermal factor),dry densities and mass ratios of bentonite and sand mixtures(physical factors)on the swelling behavior and ability of bentonite-based materials.In this study,swelling tests are conducted on B/S mixtures with different B/S mix ratios(20/80 to 70/30),compacted at different dry densities(ρd=1.6-2 g/cm^(3)),saturated with different types of water(distilled water and simulated deep groundwater of Trenton and Guelph)and exposed to different temperatures(20℃-80℃).Moreover,scanning electron microscopy(SEM)analyses,mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP)tests and X-ray diffractometry(XRD)analyses are carried out to evaluate the morphological,microstructural and mineralogical characteristics of the B/S mixtures.The test results indicate that the swelling potential of the B/S mixtures is significantly affected by these physical and chemical factors as well as the combined effects of the chemical and thermal factors.A significant decrease in the swelling capacity is observed when the B/S materials are exposed to the aforementioned groundwaters.A large decrease in the swelling capacity is observed for higher bentonite content in the mixtures.Moreover,higher temperatures intensify the chemically-induced reduction of the swelling capacity of the B/S barrier materials.This decrease in the swelling capacity is caused by the chemical and/or microstructural changes of the materials.The results from this research will help engineers to design and build EBSs for DGRs with similar groundwater and thermal conditions.
