A Smart Fluorescent Light Spectroscope to Identify the Pork Adulteration for Halal Authentication

The complication of adulterated ingredients in processed food items is widely observed in the food industry and remains a continuous disquiet for end users. This problem may affect consumers’ spiritual beliefs, likewise with their fitness and diet. Hence commercial foods should be scrutinized for the precision of the avowed ingredients. This study is dedicated to developing a Fluorescent light Spectroscope to identify the pork adulteration. A simple way of DNA extraction process has been introduced to make the system more convenient. The spectral bands linked with pork fat (PF), beef fat (BF) and their combinations in different food formulation were skimmed, and recognized by correlating them to those spectroscopically illustrative to clean Pork or PF and other different items. Every material has the properties to absorb some light of specific wavelength, and our activity is to determine thus wavelength range at which are absorbed or make any change by the target material. The findings have revealed that spectroscopy can be used as one of the procedures to detect and quantify of pork in different foods and beverages formulation for Halal verification purposes. Special laborious procedures and equipment both are essential for the existing testing methods named RT-PCR (Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) and ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). Most of the food processors and dealers are not skillful to conduct sufficient testing for their products with all these sample preparation, extraction, analysis, and obtaining results which can be overcome by our proposed setup.

The study of various oxidation states of chromium with Sargassum sp. is of particular interest since hexavalent chromium is reduced to trivalent chromium in an aqueous solution. In this study, a systematic density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to study the interactions of transition metal chromium ion with different oxidation states and spin states with the Sargassum sp. decorated with carboxylate (acetate) at the wB97XD/6-311++ G(d,p) level of theory. The structures and binding energies of chromium metal-carboxylate complexes at various oxidation states and spin states in gas phase were examined. The coordination strength of Cr(VI) with the acetate ligand was predominantly the strongest compared to the other oxidation states. Comparative study of hypoglycemic and antibacterial activity of organic extracts of four Bangladeshi plants

Is the Sundarbans of Bangladesh in a State of Pollution?

The Sundarbans is the world’s most extensive natural mangrove forest and home to various natural resources. The population in the vicinity has increased, causing more dependency on the resources of the Sundarbans. The increasing industrialization, urbanization, aquaculture, intensive agricultural practices, seaports, tourism facilities, and so on in the peripheral areas of the Sundarbans have made significant changes in the surrounding and upstream land uses of the Sundarbans. This situation may have detrimental influences on the ecosystem components of the Sundarbans. Therefore, it is highly demanded to prepare a piece of baseline information or database of different sources of pollution and their present status in the various components of the Sundarbans. This effort helps to identify issues and concerns, determine the key elements of the ecosystem to monitor the level or overall quality of the Sundarbans ecosystem. The present study systematically collects the potential sources of pollution, types, and current levels in the ecosystem components of the Sundarbans using academic databases, libraries, and online resources. Discharge of industrial waste into water, soil and air, heavy metal pollution, use of agrochemicals, oil (refined and crude) pollution, plastic materials from urban areas, and tourism are the major issues and concerns related to the sustainability of the Sundarbans ecosystem. The air quality of the Sundarbans is in good condition with 0 - 50 AQI of Bangladesh. While BOD, COD, TDS, TSS varied from 2.0 to 3.8 mg/L, 21.6 to 416 mg/L, 146.9 to 24,100 mg/L and 54 to 155 mg/L, respectively. Soil EC, organic carbon, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus ranged from 3.01 - 5.82 mS/cm, 1.41% - 2.69%, 0.51 - 1.05 mg/g, and 0.32 - 0.51 mg/g respectively. The air, water and soil quality parameters varied with the sites and seasons and not much at the state of contamination. 目的鉴别日本脑炎疫苗株ML-17的两个大宽变异株（ML-17L2和ML-17L4）的存在，并通过全基因组序列测定分析引起斑形和毒力改变的基因突变。方法首先对疫苗株ML-17在传代过程中出现的多斑ML-17sh的两个大宽变异株进行纯化和鉴定，再对两个大斑变异株进行全基因组序列测定和全编码氨基酸序列推导。并与小斑疫苗株ML-17及其大斑亲代野毒株JaOH0566的全核苷酸序列和全编码氨基酸序列进行比较，分析引起宽形改变的基因突变。并应用小白鼠试验检查ML-17变异前后的神经侵袭力和毒力变化。结果全基因组序列分析显示两个大斑变异株的核苷酸总数均为10977个，与ML-17和JaOH0566相比较，分剐有33和34个核苷酸变异散在分布于ML-17L2和ML-17L4的全基因组中，其中又分别有12和13个核苷酸导致了氨基酸的改变。在ML-17L2和ML-17L4的衣壳蛋白区没有氨基酸变异，但在包膜蛋白区各有一个氨基酸变异；在5’端非编码区没有核苷酸变异，但在3’端非编码区有3～4个核苷酸变异，且各增加了一个额外的10699核苷酸。ML-17和ML-17sh的小鼠LD50分别为大于1×10^6FFU和481FFU。变异后毒力明显增强。结论发生在两个大斑变异株的第5非结构蛋白区和其它区的氨基酸返祖变异（变回与JaOH0566相同）和新变异，可能引起了宽彤的改变；而全部5个氨基酸返祖变异和2—3个氨基酸新变异可能与其毒力改变有关。本次研究为ML-17L2和ML-17L4的斑形和毒力改变提供了分子遗传学基础。

A new N-acetylsulfanilylation series of uridine have been synthesized in good yield using direct acylation method and afforded the 5’-O-N-acetylsulfanilyluridine. In order to obtain newer products, the 5’-O-N-acetylsulfanilyluridine derivative was further transformed to a series of 2’,3’-di-O-acyl derivatives containing a wide variety of functionalities in a single molecular framework. The chemical structures of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed on the basis of their FTIR, 1H-NMR spectroscopy, physicochemical properties and elemental analysis. All the synthesized uridine derivatives were tested for their in vitro antibacterial activity against six human pathogenic bacterial strains and for comparison standard antibiotic Ampicillin was also determined. The study revealed that the selectively acylated deriva-tives 5’-O-N-acetylsulfanilyl-2’,3’-di-O-lauroyluridine and 5’-O-N-acetylsulfanilyl-2’,3’-di-O-pivaloyluridine showed highest inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus, respectively. We also observed that the introduction of hexanoyl, decanoyl, lauroyl, myristoyl and pivaloyl groups, the antibacterial functionality of the compound uridine increases. Another noteworthy observation was that the uridine derivatives were found comparatively more effective against Gram-positive microorganisms than those of Gram-negative microorganisms. In addition, the test chemicals were also tested for cyto-toxicity by brine shrimp lethality bioassay and compounds showed different rate mortality with different concentrations.

Effect of Preoperative Dutasteride on Bleeding Related to Transurethral Resection of Prostate in Patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Background: Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) is the gold standard in the surgical treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Blood loss is one of the most common complications of TURP. Objective: To evaluate the effect of preoperative dutasteride on bleeding related to TURP in patients with BPH. Materials and Methods: This prospective interventional study was done in the department of urology, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period of July 2016 to June 2017. A total of 70 cases of BPH planned for TURP were included in this study according to the statistical calculation. Patients were randomly allocated to control group A (TURP without dutasteride) and dutasteride group B (TURP with dutasteride). Each group consisted of 35 patients. Group B patients were treated with dutasteride 0.5 mg/day for 4 weeks before TURP. The main outcome of blood loss was evaluated in terms of reduction in serum hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Hct) levels, which were measured before and 24 hours after surgery. Data were analyzed and compared by statistical tests. Results: Comparison of outcome between groups shows that there was a significant difference in term of pre-post operative change of hemoglobin and hematocrit levels in the control group A compared to the dutasteride group B (Hb = 2.96 ± 0.80 gm/dl vs. 1.81 ± 0.71 gm/dl, respectively, p = 0.001;Hct = 11.20% ± 2.12% vs. 6.07% ± 2.02%, respectively, p = 0.02). A significant lower mean blood loss was observed in the dutasteride group compared to the control group. Conclusion: Preoperative dutasteride therapy reduces blood loss related to TURP in patients with BPH. This therapy can be practiced to reduce surgical bleeding associated with TURP.
