This study was conducted to investigate the properties of Pr3+-Dy3+doped Zn2Y-type hexaferrite for potential technological applications.X-ray diffraction（XRD）,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FTIR） and field-emission scanning electron microscopy（FESEM） were used to analyze structural *** crystallite size in the synthesized samples varies between 57.54 and 68.57 *** vibrational bands at 400 and 600 cm-1,common to all hexaferrites,were confirmed through *** FESEM analysis reveals an agglomeration of magnetic grains and a decrease in the average grain size from 1.24 to1.06 μ*** M-H loops show that,with x values of 0.0,0.1,and 0.2,the saturation magnetization is determined to be 34.76,34.23,and 32.52 emu/g,*** corresponding coercivity values are21.24,30.39,and 33.99 ***-visible spectroscopy using Tauc theory reveals an increase in the optical band gap from 2.32 to 2.50 eV,indicating a tunable energy band structure by incorporating Pr3+-Dy3+*** dielectric constant increases,whereas AC conductivity decreases with increased Pr3+-Dy3+*** obtained results suggest the potential suitability of these materials for various technological applications.

Analgesia and Safety of Perioperative Bilateral Erector Spinae Infusion versus Thoracic Epidural Infusion in Upper Abdominal Oncological Surgeries: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Objective: Erector spinae plane block is a novel regional anaesthetic intervention that is said to have an effective analgesic profile in the upper abdominal region. We compared its analgesic efficacy with thoracic epidural block for upper abdominal cancer surgeries. Methods: This prospective study included 60 patients, 18 to 65 years old with ASA class II who underwent gastrectomy and Whipple’s procedures under general anesthesia. Patients were assigned into two groups: Thoracic epidural group, with injection of 0.1 ml/kg of bupivacaine 0.25% in epidural catheter followed by 0.1 ml/kg/h of 0.125% bupivacaine infusion for 48 hrs., and Erector spinae group, with insertion of bilateral erector spinae catheters to inject 0.1 ml/kg of bupivacaine 0.25% followed by bilateral infusion of 0.1 ml/kg/h of bupivacaine 0.125% for 48 hrs. The primary endpoint was postoperative VAS scores at rest and movement. Secondary endpoint included postoperative total opioid consumption, 1st request for analgesia, hemodynamic changes and satisfaction scores. Results: Pain scores and needed rescue analgesia in both groups were comparable. However, 1st request for opioid was significantly longer in TEPI compared to ESI group. Hemodynamics were significantly lower in TEPI group with no differences in the incidence of postoperative complications except for hypotension. Patient satisfaction scores were arbitrarily higher in ESI group without significance. Conclusion: Erector spinae infusion is a highly promising regional technique with comparable effects to thoracic epidural blockade in reducing pain and opioid needs while causing minimal hemodynamic consequences.

Impact of recycling improvement on the life cycle of phosphorus

Access to natural resources is increasingly more difficult and more costly, partly due to their economic significance and to continuous increase of their global consumption in the recent years. In the case of phosphorus (P), which is a critical raw material, geological distribution of its primary nonrenewable source (phosphate rock) is concentrated in particular regions leading to high supply risk of this raw material. In Europe (EU-28), where phosphate rock reserves are scarce, import of phosphorus has been the main source of supply. It means that Europe relies highly on the foreign exporters. From decision makers' perspective, recycling of phosphorus was taken into account as one of the possible solutions to decrease the dependence on imports and extraction of reserves. The question, however, is to what extent does the recycling of phosphorus help in reducing the reliance on typical supply resources? Hence, the main objective of this paper is to quantify the dynamic flow of phosphorus and show potential benefits of its recycling in Europe. This article presents a system dynamics model for representation of the element P flow and helps to quantify to what extent the recycled phosphorus could mitigate its criticality. Analysis of the results supports previous studies indicating the high reliance ofEU on P imports, estimating around 96% as the reliance percentage on imports. The results imply that improving P recycling has the potential to decrease the level of P imports to a certain extent, which may reach 79%.

Safety and effi cacy of hepatitis A vaccine in children with chronic liver diseas

AIM： To study the safety and efficacy of hepatitis A vaccine （HAV） in children with chronic liver disease of various etiologies. METHODS： eleven children with chronic liver disease and thirteen age- and sex-matched controls negative for HAV antibodies were vaccinated against hepatitis A after they gave their informed consent. Children with uncontrolled coagulopathy or signs of hepatic decompensation were excluded. The vaccine （Havrix： 720 elISA units in 0.5 mL, from GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals） was given intramuscularly in the deltoid in 2 doses 6 mo apart. Children were tested for HAV antibodies one and six months after the ist dose and one month after the 2^nd dose. Total serum bilirubin, alanine aminotransferase （ALT）, and aspartate aminotransferase （AST） were determined immediately before and after one month of the 1st dose of the vaccine. RESULTS： Only 7 out of the 11 patients were positive for HAV antibodies after the 1^st dose of the vaccine, as compared to 100% of the controls. One month after the 2nd dose, all patients tested were positive for HAV antibodies. No deterioration in liver functions of patients was noted after vaccination. No adverse events, immediate or late, were reported by the mothers after each dose of the vaccine. CONCLUSION： Hepatitis A vaccine is both safe and effective in this small studied group of children with chronic liver disease. Given the high seroconversion rate, post-vaccination testing for HAV antibodies is not needed.

Modified particle swarm optimization for optimum design of spread footing and retaining wall

This paper deals with the economically optimized design and sensitivity of two of the most widely used systems in geotechnical engineering: spread footing and retaining wall. Several recent advanced optimization methods have been developed, but very few of these methods have been applied to geotechnical problems. The current research develops a modified particle swarm optimization (MPSO) approach to obtain the optimum design of spread footing and retaining wall. The algorithm handles the problem-specific constraints using a penalty function approach. The optimization procedure controls all geotechnical and structural design constraints while reducing the overall cost of the structures. To verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm, three case studies of spread footing and retaining wall are illustrated. Comparison of the results of the present method, standard PSO, and other selected methods employed in previous studies shows the reliability and accuracy of the algorithm. Moreover, the parametric performance is investigated in order to examine the effect of relevant variables on the optimum design of the footing and the retaining structure utilizing the proposed method.

Dynamics of CO_2 Emission and Biochemical Properties of a Sandy Calcareous Soil Amended with Conocarpus Waste and Biochar

Biochar is a carbon-rich product obtained by biomass pyrolysis and considered a mean of carbon sequestration. In this research, a sandy calcareous soil from the Farm of the College of Food & Agriculture Sciences, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, was amended with either woody waste of Conocarpus erectus L.(CW) or the biochar(BC) produced from CW at rates of 0(control), 10, 30 and 50 g kg-1. The effects of the amendments on soil p H, dissolved organic carbon(DOC), microbial biomass carbon(MBC), CO2 emission and metabolic quotient(q CO2) of the sandy calcareous soil were studied in a 60-d incubation experiment. The results showed that the addition of CW led to a significant decrease in soil p H compared to the control and the addition of BC. The CO2-C emission rate was higher in the first few days of incubation than when the incubation time progressed. The cumulative CO2-C emission from the soil amended with CW, especially at higher rates, was higher(approximately 3- to 6-fold) than that from the control and the soil amended with BC. The BC-amended soil showed significant increases in CO2-C emission rate during the first days of incubation as compared to the non-amended soil, but the increase in cumulative CO2-C emission was not significant after 60 d of incubation. On the other hand, CW applications resulted in considerably higher cumulative CO2-C emission, MBC and DOC than the control and BC applications. With the exception of 0 day(after 1 h of incubation), both CW and BC applications led to lower values of q CO2 as compared to the control. The power function kinetic model satisfactorily described the cumulative CO2-C emission. Generally, the lowest values of CO2 emission were observed in the soil with BC, suggesting that the contribution of BC to CO2 emission was very small as compared to that of CW.
