Ultrasensitive and selective 4-aminophenol chemical sensor development based on nickel oxide nanoparticles decorated carbon nanotube nanocomposites for green environment

Nickel oxide nanoparticles decorated carbon nanotube nanocomposites （*** NCs） were prepared in a basic medium by using facile wet-chemical routes. The optical, morphological, and structural properties of *** NCs were characterized using Fourier transformed infra-red （FT-IR）, Ultra-violet visible （UV/Vis） spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy （FESEM）, X-ray energy dispersed spectroscopy （XEDS）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）, and powder X-ray diffraction （XRD） methods. Selective 4-aminophenol （4-AP） chemical sensor was developed by a fiat glassy carbon electrode （GCE, surface area： 0.0316 cm2） fabricated with a thin-layer of NCs. Electrochemical responses including higher sensitivity, large dynamic range （LDR）, limit of detection （LOD）, and long-term stability towards 4-AP were obtained using the fabricated chemical sensors. The calibration curve was found linear （R2 = 0.914） over a wide range of 4-AP concentration （0.1 nmol/L-0.1 tool/L）. In perspective of slope （2 x 10.5 gA/gM）, LOD and sensitivity were calculated as 15.0 ＋ 0.1 pM and -6.33 - 10.4 gA/（***） respectively. The synthesized *** NCs using a wet-chemical method is a significant route for the development of ultrasensitive and selective phenolic sensor based on nano-materials for environmental toxic substances. It is suggested that a pioneer and selective development of 4-AP sensitive sensor using *** NCs by a facile and reliable current us voltage （I-V） method for the major application of toxic agents in biological, green environmental, and health-care fields in near future.

Bilirubin sensor based on CuO-CdO composites deposited in a nafion/glassy carbon electrode matrixes

Copper oxide-cadmium oxide nanocomposites(CuO-CdO NCs) were synthesized by solvothermal technique in a basic medium. CuO-CdO NCs were characterized using conventional techniques, such as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR), UV–Visible Spectroscopy(UV/Vis), Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FESEM), X-ray electron dispersive spectroscopy(XEDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), and powder X-ray diffraction(XRD). A selective and enzyme-less Bilirubin(BLR) sensor was developed with a thin-layer of NCs onto a glassy carbon electrode(GCE, surface area = 0.0316 cm~2) using 5% nafion binders at room conditions. Improved electrochemical performances of higher sensitivity, lower detection limit,linear dynamic range(LDR), and long-term stability of preferred BLR were achieved by a reliable currentvoltage(I-V) approach. The calibration curve was found linear(R~2= 0.9347) in a wide range of BLR concentration(10.0 pM ~ 10.0 mM). Based on the signal to noise ratio value of 3, the sensitivity and limit of detection(LOD) of the sensor were calculated as 95.0 pA μM-1cm-2and 1.0 ± 0.1 pM *** synthesized CuO-CdO NCs/GCE is an excellent advancement of developing a selective and sensitive BLR sensor by electrochemical approach and practically implemented in real sample applications.

Rate of elapsed polymerization of hydroxyethylacrylate gel induced by gamma irradiation

The rate of elapsed polymerization of polyhydroxyethylacrylate in gelatin has been studied to investigate the effect of co-monomers consumption at a given dose. The polymer gel dosimeters consisted of 2%～4% N,N-methyelene-bis-acrylamide cross-linker,2%～4% 2-hydroxyethylacrylate monomer and gelatin at 3% and 5%. The dosimeters were irradiated by using 60Co teletherapy γ-ray source up to 20 Gy at a constant dose rate. The relaxation rate of water proton in the dosimeters at different doses and co-monomer concentrations were measured using a nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The rate of elapsed polymerization decreases with increasing the dose and the initial concentration of co-monomers. The rate of consumption of co-monomers increases with an increase of the polymerization and the gelatin content of the polymer gel.

Mass drug administration for lymphatic filariasis elimination in a coastal state of India: a study on barriers to coverage and compliance

Background:Lymphatic filariasis is targeted for elimination in India through mass drug administration(MDA)with diethylcarbamazine(DEC)combined with albendazole(ABZ).For the strategy to be effective,>65%of those living in endemic areas must be covered by and compliant to *** the MDA 2011 campaign in the endemic district of Odisha,we conducted a survey to assess:(i)the filariasis knowledge in the community,(ii)the coverage and compliance of MDA from the community perspective,and(iii)factors affecting compliance,as well as the operational issues involved in carrying out MDA activities from the drug distributor’s ***:A sample of 691 participants-both male and female,aged two years or above-were selected through multistage stratified sampling and interviewed using a semi-structured ***,drug distributors and the medical officers in charge of the MDA were also interviewed to understand some of the operational issues encountered during ***:Ninety-nine percent of the study participants received DEC and ABZ tablets during MDA,of which only just above a quarter actually consumed the *** cause of non-compliance was mostly due to fear of side effects,lack of awareness of the benefits of MDA,and non-attendance of health staff in the *** of adequate training of drug distributors and poor health communication activities before the MDA campaign commenced and the absence of follow-up by health workers following MDA were a few of the operational difficulties encountered during the MDA ***:Currently MDA is restricted to the distribution of drugs only and the key issues of implementation in compliance,health education,managing side effects,and logistics are not given enough *** is therefore essential to address the issues linked to low compliance to make the program more efficient and achieve the goal of filariasis elimination.

An image can be degraded due to many environmental factors like foggy or hazy weather,low light conditions,extra light conditions *** captured under the poor light conditions is generally known as non-uniform illumination ***-uniform illumination hides some important information present in an image during the image capture Also,it degrades the visual quality of image which generates the need for enhancement of such *** techniques have been present in literature for the enhancement of such type of *** this paper,a novel architecture has been proposed for enhancement of poor illumination images which uses radial basis approximations based BEMD(Bi-dimensional Empirical Mode Decomposition).The enhancement algorithm is applied on intensity and saturation components of ***,intensity component has been decomposed into various bi-dimensional intrinsic mode function and residue by using sifting ***,some linear transformations techniques have been applied on various bidimensional intrinsic modes obtained and residue and further on joining the transformed modes with residue,enhanced intensity component is *** part of an image is then enhanced in accordance to the enhanced intensity *** enhanced image can be obtained by joining the hue,enhanced intensity and enhanced saturation parts of the given *** proposed algorithm will not only give the visual pleasant image but maintains the naturalness of image also.

Estimate of Genetic Parameters of Grain Yield and Some Agronomic Traits in Durum Wheat Using Diallel Crosses

Five varieties of durum wheat were crossed in full diallel fashion through 2010/2011 growing season. The five parents and their 20 F1 progenies were grown in 2011/2012 at the farm of faculty of agricultural and forestry, Duhok university, Iraq, using randomize complete block design with three replications to estimate heterosis, heritability and some genetic parameters for yield and its components. The results showed highly significant difference among genotypes for all studied traits. The parent Um Raby-5 had a positive general combining ability effect for most traits including grain yield. The crosses （Kokorete71× LD - 357E）, （Crezo × Um Rahy-5）, （Cimeto×Um Raby-5）, （Cimeto×crezo） and （Cimeto × Kokorete 71） exhibited significant desirable specific combining ability effect for most traits. The dominance was greater than additive almost traits. Heritability inbroad sense was high but heritability in narrow sense was low. The expected genetic advance as percent of traits mean was low for all traits. Most crosses showed significant positive heterosis for most traits and two crosses, （Crezo Cimeto） and （Cimeto Urn Raby-5） had the highest positive heterosis for the most studied traits including grain yield.

Effect of Heterogeneities in Soil on Spatial Variation of Peak Ground Acceleration

In the proximity of an active fault, spatial variation of peak ground motion is significantly affected by the faulting mechanism. It has been observed that near fault ground motions consists of different characteristics compared to the far fault ground motions. Near fault records, in the distance range of less than 100 m from the faults are not available except for few cases. Therefore numerical simulation of ground motions for such near-fault situations is necessary. In addition to the understanding of the phenomenon of near fault ground motion there is a need to enhance our understanding of the possible potential hazard that can be caused due to the future rupture activity by understanding the phenomenon of surface faulting. In this paper we propose numerical simulation based on discrete modeling to investigate the fault rupture propagation and its effect on the surface peak ground acceleration. In the present two dimensional study rupture propagation due to bedrock motion has been observed for different shear wave velocity. A model of size 1000× 150 m is selected for this purpose. It has been observed that as the stiffness of the media is decreasing, the affected surface is decreasing and also width of the shear crack zone is decreasing. Secondly, we attempted to study the ground motion on the surface due to the bedrock motion in presence of boulders in the soil media by keeping the boulder at different positions. We find that there is an increase in the shear zone as well as the PGA on the surface when the boulder is present on the foot wall and in the vicinity of the rupture zone. Finally, we performed the analysis using layered media and studied the affect of crack propagation and also the variation of peak accelerations. Findings from the study can be utilized to assess the damage potential of the near fault areas.

Genetic Variations and Gene Effect Controlling Grain Yield and Some of Its Components in Maize

Diallel cross analysis among seven diverse pure lines of maize, （IK8, IK58, ZP-707, OH40, UN44052, DKI7 and HS） with their nonreciprocal 21 crosses, were carried out for estimating the nature and magnitude of gene effects through component and graphic analysis for characters： number of days to tasseling, number of days to silking, plant height, ear height, number of rows per ear, number of grains per row, 300 grain weight and grain yield per plant. The results showed highly significant mean square of genotypes for all studied characters. Additive and dominance variances were found to be significant from zero for all the eight characters except number of days to tasseling and silking for which additive genetic variance was no significant. Dominance variance estimation was relatively higher than the additive variance for all characters. The graphic analysis suggested the presence of epistatic gene effects （non-allelic interaction） for number of days to tasseling, number of days to silking, plant height, number of grains per row and grain yield per plant. The estimates of narrow sense heritability varied from 1.85% for 300 grain weight to 49.88% for ear height, it was moderate in case of ear height and low for the remainder characters.

Oxaliplatin is a novel platinum compound with clinical activity against several solid tumors. It has been associated with sensory neuropathies and, rarely, a neuromyotonia-like hyperexcitability syndrome;a form of peripheral neuropathy manifested by tremor and twitching activity of muscles. We present a case of hyperexcitability syndrome developed during the treatment of stage III appendiceal adenocarcinoma with oxaliplatin-containing regimen and was successfully treated with Pregabalin.
