With the recent advances in mobile technology and wireless network technology, embedded systems are being widely used in modem society today. Particularly, a home healthcare system is a networked embedded system where the main functions are to control the disease processes and to help patients maintain their independence and maximum level of function within their own homes and communities. It seems to be self-evident to design a system that would support both patients and their healthcare providers in the process of treatment. Nevertheless, little work in integrating embedded devices with intemet for the support of patients have been done to date. In this paper, we show how to design a healthcare system for supporting the management of the conditions of patients with chronic diseases. This system is built around wireless networked embedded devices, and integrates the intemet technology for telemonitoring the patient＇s health and notifying of doctors if emergency action is required. Also, patients themselves may specify personal alerts for condition-related issues.

Quran has ten famous recitations and twenty different narrations. It is well known that the best way is to learn from qualified and authentic scientists (Sheikh's) in one or more of these narrations. Due to 1) the widespread of the Internet and the ease of use and availability of computers and the smart phones that enables access to the Internet;2) the business of people hindering them to attend physical learning environments;and 3) the very few number of elder licensed scientists, we have developed a virtual learning system (electronic Miqra’ah). Scientists can supervise remotely the registered students. Students (from different ages) can register from anywhere in the world given that they have Internet connection. Students can interact with the scientist in real time so that they can help them memorize (Tahfeez), guide them for error correction, and give them lectures or lessons through virtual learning rooms. The targeted groups of users can be nonblind people, blind people, manual-disabled people and illiterate people. We have developed this system such that it takes the commands via voice in addition to the normal inputs like mouse and keyboard. Users can dictate the commands to the system orally and the system recognizes the spoken phrases and executes them. We have developed an efficient speech recognition engine that is speaker independent and accent independent. The system administrators create several virtual learning rooms and register the licensed scientists. Administrators prepare a daily schedule for each room. Students can register to any of these rooms by pronouncing its name. Each student is allocated a portion of time where he/she can interact directly by voice with the scientist. Other students can listen to the current student’s recitation and the error corrections, guidance or lessons from the scientists.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy in the elderly over 80 years:a case report

BACKGROUND: An increasing number of elderly patients have been considered for major surgical procedures, such as pancreaticoduodenectomy. The decision to recommend this operation for localized pancreatic cancer or other periampullary process in a very elderly patient is complicated by the frailty of the patient and the poor prognosis of the disease. Moreover, increased surgical experience associated with better patient selection may reduce the mortality rate, even in very elderly patients (over 80 years of age), after pancreaticoduodenectomy. METHODS: An 84-year-old woman underwent pancreatico- duodenectomy for ampullary adenocarcinoma. The tumor was classified pT3N0M0. RESULT: A good postoperative outcome was obtained. The patient is still alive, 18 months after operation. CONCLUSIONS: Radical resection of periampullary tumors is safe in selected patients of advanced age, with morbidity and mortality rates approaching those observed in younger patients. Age alone should not be a contraindication for pancreatic resection.

Gravity data associated with surface geology in the Northern Tunisian Atlas offer better understand to the underlying structures in Teboursouk area and to highlight other deep or unknown structures in surface. The gravity study was based on qualitative and quantitative analysis including the construction of the gravity Bouguer anomaly, upward continuations, residual anomaly, and Horizontal gradient maxima maps. The main results display many positive and negative anomalies as the response of geological structures (J. Cheid Triassic structure, Khalled plain, el Aroussa plain). In addition, the horizontal gradient maxima integrated with geological and structural maps let the identification of major directions of gravimetric lineaments in the study area us NE-SW trending features at the boundaries of J. Cheid structure, NW-SE direction that limit Gaafour plain and Tabet Ech Cherif syncline, and N-S trending that bordered el Aroussa basin. Major results allowed the construction of a new structural map of the study zone.

Objective:To test direct and indirect antimicrobial properties of α-mangostin towards a number of bacteria and ***:Activity of α-mangostin paired with an antibiotic was studied by calculating its fractional inhibitory concentration(FIC).Results:The experiment was carried out using broth microdilution and checkerboards *** showed no interaction with the combination withα-mangostin where the FIC indexes were between the range of 0.5*** of doxycycline on Pseudomonas aeruginosa fell into other set of range,FIC_(index)≥4 which is an *** activity of all four bacteria towards ampicillin,penicillin G,streptomycin and Conclusions:The FIC index is far away in the *** coupled antibiotic andα-mangostin is considered synergy in action if it lies in FIC_(index)≤0.5 and it was found that the isolated compound,α-mangostin revealed very low synergistic antimicrobial effects when coupled with antibiotics.

Detection of Potato Spindle Tuber Viroid, and Its Impact on Growth, Production of Tomatoes in Greenhouse

The viability of most tomato varieties cultivated in Libya have been tested to infect with potato spindle tuber viroid/potatoes （PSTVd） and its impact on growth and production of some of these varieties, which were mechanically inoculated with Libyan isolate of viroid PSTVd as follows： Vlkato, Sankarh, Lebda, Jasmine, Kenza and Hana. The percent of incidence were 95.95%, 90%, 90.80%, 80% and 20%, respectively. The following varieties have been contagious mechanically with viroid of PSTVd： Vlkato, zahra, Toria, Lebda, Hoda, Farwa, Alkaraz, Naziha, Rim Star and Kartika. The percent of incidence were 95.95%, 85%, 85.80%, 80%, 70.40%, 0.0%, 0.0%, respectively. The varied symptoms of wrinkle, twist, warp, swell the veins of the leaves, dark brown spots formation and a large yellow spots turned into white patches. Also the effect of the Egyptian isolate viroid PSTVd in the growth and production of varieties Jasmine, Lebda, Soberhalim, and treasure No. 185 had been studied, as the average rates of decline in the production of the fruits tomatoes/tomato 43.4% and 17% length of plants, and in the fresh weight and dry root of the sum of 35% and 37% respictively.

A simple, rapid and precise method has been developed for determination of lipase activity in microbial media. The method is based on using phenyl acetate as substrate for lipase and determination of liberated phenol by Folin Ciocalteu reagent. Reaction mixture containing substrate 2.4 ml of phenyl acetate 165 μM in Tris HCl buffer, 0.1 M and pH 7, with 1% (v/v) Triton X-100) and 0.1 ml lipase is incubated at 40?C during 10 minutes and the absorbance was measured at 750 nm. Linearity was observed in the concentration range 0-0.8 g/L lipase.

Objective:To evaluate antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of stembark of Shorea kunstleri(***)together with analysis of phytochemical and total phenolic ***:Extraction was conducted with different solvent polarity of n-hexane,dichloromethane(DCM)and methanol by using Soxhlet *** phenolic content was determined using Folin-Ciocalteu *** radical scavenging activity and inhibition of lipid peroxidation were evaluated with DPPH radical scavenging and ferric thiocyanate assays,*** activities were performed using disc diffusion method,minimum inhibition concentration(MIC),minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC),and minimum fungicidal ***:*** stembark extracts revealed presence of steroids,terpenoids,saponins,flavonoids,and phenolic *** extract exhibited the highest total phenolic content and free radical scavenging activity resulting in phenolic content of(8.340±0.003)g GAE/100 g of extract and(95.90±1.07)%DPPH inhibition(IC_(50)value of 18.6μg/mL),*** thiocyanate assay of n-hexane,DCM,and methanol extracts indicated lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity of(74.20±0.35)%,(74.00±0.10)%,and(72.80±0.27)%,*** antimicrobial and antifungal tests,methanol extract showed inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus(***),Candida albicans,and Candida tropicalis with inhibition zones of 10-12,18-22,and 18-19 mm,*** MIC test of methanol extract showed highest inhibition against Candida albicans and ***(0.04 and 0.08 mg/mL,respectively)while DCM extract exhibited the highest activity towards Candida tropicalis(MIC value of 0.63 mg/mL).Taken together,MBC test of methanol extract strongly demonstrated bactericidal effect against *** with MBC value of 0.08 mg/***:The study demonstrated that stembark extracts of *** possessed antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.
