Effects of rates and time of zeolite application on controlling runoff generation and soil loss from a soil subjected to a freeze-thaw cycle

Many factors such as freeze-thaw(FT)cycle influence soil *** of soil amendments can play an important role on runoff time commencement(RT),volume(RV)and soil loss(SL)on soils subjected to FT ***,limited studies have been documented on this *** present study was therefore carried out under rainfall simulation circumstances to investigate the effect of different rates of zeolite ap-plication to control the effects of FT on basic hydrological variables such as runoff production and soil *** this attempt,the effect of application of different rates of 250,500 and 750 gm^(-2) of zeolite applied before,during and after the occurrence of FT cycle on RT,RV and SL was assessed in a completely randomized *** were set up in two categories ***(without zeolite application),and three rates and times of zeolite application in small 0.25 m-experimental plots in three *** results showed that application of zeolite had significant effects on hydrological behavior of soil induced by FT ***-plication rate of 750 gm^(-2) prior to FT cycle increased RT and reduced RV and SL at rates of 644%,68% and 91%,*** results also verified that zeolite could successfully mitigate the impacts of FT cycle on the main soil hydrological variables of soil profile induced by FT *** is accordingly recommended to employ zeolite as an effective amendment to control soil erosion in steep and degraded rangelands where surface soil is exposed to rainfall and runoff.

The viscosity of a substance or material is intensely influenced by the temperature,especially in the field of lubricant engineering where the changeable temperature is well *** this paper,the problem of temperature-dependent viscosity on mixed convection flow of Eyring Powell fluid was studied together with Newtonian heating thermal boundary *** flow was assumed to move over a vertical stretching *** model of the problem,which is in partial differential equations,was first transformed to ordinary differential equations using appropriate *** approach was considered to reduce the complexity of the ***,the transformed equations were solved using the Keller box method under the finite difference scheme *** validation process of the results was performed,and it was found to be in an excellent *** results on the present computation are shown in tabular form and also graphical *** major finding was observed where the skin friction and Nusselt number were boosted in the strong viscosity.

Accelerated deactivation of ruthenium-promoted alumina-supported alkalized cobalt （K-Ru-Co/γ-Al 2 O 3 ） Fischer-Tropsch （FT） synthesis catalyst along the catalytic bed over 120 h of time-on-stream （TOS） was investigated. Catalytic bed was divided into three parts and structural changes of the spent catalysts collected from each catalytic bed after FT synthesis were studied using different techniques. Rapid deactivation was observed during the reaction due to high reaction temperature and low feed flow rates. The physico-chemical properties of the catalyst charged in the Bed #1 of the reactor did not change significantly. Interaction of cobalt with alumina and the formation of CoAl 2 O 4 increased along the catalytic bed. Reducibility percentage decreased by 4.5%, 7.5% and 12.9% for the catalysts in the Beds #1, #2 and #3, respectively. Dispersion decreased by 8.8%, 14.4% and 26.6% for the catalysts in the Beds #1, #2 and #3, respectively. Particle diameter increased by 0.6%, 2.4% and 10.4% for the catalysts in the Beds #1, #2 and #3, respectively, suggesting higher rate of sintering at the last catalytic bed. The amount of coke at the last catalytic bed was significantly higher than those of Beds #1 and #2.

The Late Cretaceous Sabzevar ophiolite represents one of the largest and most complete fragments of Tethyan oceanic lithosphere in the NE *** is mainly composed of serpentinized mantle peridotites slices;nonetheless,minor tectonic slices of all crustal sequence constituents are observed in this *** crustal sequence contains a well-developed ultramafic and mafic cumulates section,comprising plagioclase-bearing wehrlite,olivine clinopyroxenite,olivine gabbronorite,gabbronorite,amphibole gabbronorite and quartz gabbronorite with adcumulate,mesocumulate,heteradcumulate and orthocumulate *** crystallization order for these rocks is olivine±chromian spinel→clinopyroxene→plagioclase→orthopyroxene→*** presence of primary magmatic amphiboles in the cumulate rocks shows that the parent magma evolved under hydrous ***,the studied rock units are characterized by low TiO2(0.18-0.57 wt.%),P2 O5(<0.05 wt.%),K2 O(0.01-0.51 wt.%)and total alkali contents(0.12-3.04 wt.%).They indicate fractionated trends in the chondrite-normalized rare earth element(REE)plots and multi-element diagrams(spider diagrams).The general trend of the spider diagrams exhibit slight enrichment in large ion lithophile elements(LILEs)relative to high field strength elements(HFSEs)and positive anomalies in Sr,Pb and Eu and negative anomalies in Zr and Nb relative to the adjacent *** REE plots of these rocks display increasing trend from La to Sm,positive Eu anomaly(Eu/Eu*=1.06-1.54)and an almost flat pattern from medium REE(MREE)to heavy REE(HREE)region[(Gd/Yb)N=1-1.17].Moreover,clinopyroxenes from the cumulate rocks have low REE contents and show marked depletion in light REE(LREE)compared to MREE and HREE[(La/Sm)N=0.10-0.27 and(La/Yb)N=0.08-0.22].The composition of calculated melts in equilibrium with the clinopyroxenes from less evolved cumulate samples are closely similar to island arc tholeiitic(IAT)*** mineralogy,geochemical features

Pipelines produce vibrations during fluid or gas *** vibrations are less likely to cause structural failure as they exist with a small magnitude and can be harvested into useful *** paper presents a study on the piezoelectric energy-harvesting method converting mechanical energy from pipeline vibration into electrical *** performance of the serpentine-shaped piezoelectric cantilever beam was observed to check whether the design can produce the highest output voltage within the allowable vibration region of the pipeline from 10 to 300 Hz through finite element analysis using COMSOL Multiphysics software(Supplementary Material).In addition,this study investigates the energy-harvesting potential of the proposed design under real pipeline vibration conditions through a lab vibration *** harvested energy output is evaluated based on various vibration frequencies and amplitudes,which gives an idea of the device and its performance under different operating *** experiment result shows that the energy harvester produced an open-circuit voltage of 10.28-15.45 V with 1 g of vibration *** results of this research will contribute to the development of efficient piezoelectric energy harvesters adapted for pipeline environments.

In recent years, zinc oxide nanoparticles(ZnO NPs) have gained tremendous attention attributed to their unique properties. Notably, evidence has shown that zinc is an important nutrient in living organisms. As such, both prokaryotes and eukaryotes including bacteria, fungi and yeast are exploited for the synthesis of ZnO NPs by using microbial cells or enzyme, protein and other biomolecules compounds in either an intracellular or extracellular route. ZnO NPs exhibit antimicrobial properties, however, the properties of nanoparticles(NPs) are depended upon on their size and shape, which make them specific for various applications. Nevertheless, the desired size and shape of NPs can be obtained through the optimization process of microbes mediated synthesis by manipulating their reaction conditions. It should be noted that ZnO NPs are synthesized by various chemical and physical ***, these methods are expensive and not environmentally friendly. On that account, the microbes mediated synthesis of ZnO NPs have rapidly evolved recently where the microbes are cleaner, eco-friendly, nontoxic and biocompatible as the alternatives to chemical and physical practices. Moreover, zinc in the form of NPs is more effective than their bulk counterparts and thus, they have been explored for many potential applications including in animals industry. Notably, with the advent of multi-drug resistant strains, ZnO NPs have emerged as the potential antimicrobial agents. This is mainly due to their superior properties in combating a broad spectrum of pathogens. Moreover, zinc is known as an essential trace element for most of the biological function in the animal’s body. As such, the applications of ZnO NPs have been reported to significantly enhance the health and production of the farm animals. Five common single plastics and nine different household,commercial and industrial waste plastics were processed using a three-stage(i)pyrolysis,(ii)catalytic steam reforming and(iii)water gas shift reaction system to produce *** of plastics produces a range of different hydrocarbon species which are subsequently catalytically steam reformed to produce H_(2)and CO and then undergo water gas shift reaction to produce further H_(2).The process mimics the commercial process for hydrogen production from natural *** of the single polyalkene plastics(high-density polyethylene(HDPE),low-density polyethylene(LDPE),and polypropylene(PP))produced similar H_(2)yields between 115 mmol and 120 mmol per gram *** though PS produced an aromatic product slate from the pyrolysis stage,further stages of reforming and water gas shift reaction produced a gas yield and composition similar to that of the polyalkene plastics(115 mmol H_(2)per gram plastic).PET gave significantly lower H_(2)yield(41 mmol per gram plastic)due to the formation of mainly CO,CO_(2)and organic acids from the pyrolysis stage which were not conducive to further reforming and water gas shift reaction.A mixture of the single plastics typical of that found in municipal solid waste produced a H_(2)yield of 102 mmol per gram *** the gas yields and composition from the single plastics enabled an estimation of the yields from a simulated waste plastic mixture and a‘real-world’waste plastic mixture to be *** different household,commercial and industrial waste plastic mixtures produced H_(2)yields between 70 mmol and 107 mmol per gram *** H_(2)yield and gas composition from the single waste plastics gave an indication of the type of plastics in the mixed waste plastic samples.

For reinforced concrete members subjected to high temperature,the degree of in-service loading,commonly expressed as the loading ratio,can be highly influential on the structural *** particular,the loading ratio may be pivotal in relation to the phenomenon of load-induced thermal *** its potentially pivotal role,to date,the influence of the loading ratio on both material and structural behavior has not been explored in *** practice,real structures experience variation in imposed loading during their service life and it is important to understand the likely response at elevated temperatures across the loading *** this paper,the effect of the loading ratio is numerically investigated at both material and structural level using a validated finite element *** model incorporates a proposed constitutive model accounting for load-induced thermal strain and this is shown to outperform the existing Eurocode 2 model in terms of *** the validated model,the specific case of flats slabs and the associated connections to supporting columns at various loading ratios are *** the cases examined,a marked difference in the structural behavior including displacement direction was captured from low to high loading ratios consistent with experimental observations.
