Production of Multi-Features Driven Nationwide Vegetation Physiognomic Map and Comparison to MODIS Land Cover Type Product

Irrespective of several attempts to land use/cover mapping at local, regional, or global scales, mapping of vegetation physiognomic types is limited and challenging. The main objective of the research is to produce an accurate nationwide vegetation physiognomic map by using automated machine learning approach with the support of reference data. A time-series of the multi-spectral and multi-indices data derived from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) were exploited along with the land-surface slope data. Reliable reference data of the vegetation physiognomic types were prepared by refining the existing vegetation survey data available in the country. The Random Forests based mapping framework adopted in the research showed high performance (Overall accuracy = 0.82, Kappa coefficient = 0.79) using 148 optimum number of features out of 231 featured used. A nationwide vegetation physiognomic map of year 2013 was produced in the research. The resulted map was compared to the existing MODIS Land Cover Type (MCD12Q1) product of year 2013. A huge difference was found between two maps. Validation with the reference data showed that the MCD12Q1 product did not work satisfactorily in Japan. The outcome of the research highlights the possibility of improving the accuracy of the MCD12Q1 product with special focus on reference data.

Propensity score matching analysis for clinical impact of braided-type versus laser-cut-type covered self-expandable metal stents for endoscopic ultrasound-guided hepaticogastrostomy

Background:To prevent stent migration during endoscopic ultrasound-guided hepaticogastrostomy(EUS-HGS),intra-scope channel release technique is important,but is unfamiliar to non-expert *** self-expandable metal stent(SEMS)is an additional factor to prevent stent ***,no compara-tive studies of laser-cut-type and braided-type during EUS-HGS have been *** aim of this study was to compare the distance between the intrahepatic bile duct and stomach wall after EUS-HGS among laser-cut-type and braided-type ***:To evaluate stent anchoring function,we measured the distance between the hepatic parenchyma and stomach wall before EUS-HGS,one day after EUS-HGS,and 7 days after ***,propensity score matching was performed to create a propensity score for using laser-cut-type group and braided-type ***:A total of 142 patients were enrolled in this *** them,24 patients underwent EUS-HGS using a laser-cut-type SEMS,and 118 patients underwent EUS-HGS using a braided-type ***-HGS using the laser-cut-type SEMS was mainly performed by non-expert endoscopists(n=21);EUS-HGS using braided-type SEMS was mainly performed by expert endoscopists(n=98).The distance after 1 day was significantly shorter in the laser-cut-type group than that in the braided-type group[2.00(1.70-3.75)vs.6.90(3.72-11.70)mm,P<0.001].In addition,this distance remained significantly shorter in the laser-cut-type group after 7 *** these results were similar after propensity score matching analysis,the distance between hepatic parenchyma and stomach after 7 days was increased by 4 mm compared with the distance after 1 day in the braided-type *** the other hand,in the laser-cut-type group,the distance after 1 day and 7 days was almost the ***:EUS-HGS using a laser-cut-type SEMS may be safe to prevent stent migration,even in non-expert hands.

Development and Evaluation of 3D Delivery Animation Software Designed to Improve the Mother’s and Spouse’s Satisfaction with Delivery

Purpose: To clarify the effectiveness of 3-D delivery animation software for the mother’s and husband’s satisfaction with delivery. Subjects and Method: We independently developed a software application used to display the pelvic region and explain the labor process. The study involved a collaboration with hospital staff who recruited 18 primiparous and 18 multiparous mothers who were hospitalized for delivery at Facility A. The midwife explained the process of delivery using the “Delivery Animation Software”. A self-administered, anonymous questionnaire was distributed and analyzed separately for primiparous and multiparous mothers and their husbands. Results: 1) For both primiparous and multiparous couples, both mothers and their husbands gained a significantly higher level of understanding after delivery than during pregnancy. 2) The Self-Evaluation Scale for Experience of Delivery results were as follows: “I did my best for the baby even if it was painful” was selected more often for “birth coping skills”;“reliable medical staff” was selected more often for “physiological birth process”;“the birth progressed as I expected” was selected frequently by primiparous mothers;and “the birth progressed smoothly” was selected often by multiparous mothers. 3) In terms of husbands’ satisfaction with the delivery, “I was satisfied with the delivery”, “I was given an easy-to-understand explanation”, and “They explained the process to me” was selected of primiparous and multiparous fathers. 4) All primiparous and multiparous mothers positively evaluated whether the delivery animation was helpful in understanding the process of delivery. Conclusion: The delivery animation was effective in improving the understanding and satisfaction of both the mothers and their husbands.

The major problems for the development of an ultra micro gas turbine system were discussed briefly from the stand point of the internal flow and the performance characteristics. Following to these, the development of ultra micro centrifugal compression systems for the ultra micro gas turbine is explained with the design and the manufacturing processes. The measured results of ultra micro centrifugal compressors are shown.

Prophylactic Pattern Scanning Laser Retinal Photocoagulation for Diabetic Retinopathy in Spontaneously Diabetic Torii Fatty Rats: Preliminary Experimental Results

Research Background and Purpose: The number of diabetic patients is rapidly increasing, making it crucial to find methods to prevent diabetic retinopathy (DR), a leading cause of blindness. We investigated the effects of prophylactic pattern scanning laser retinal photocoagulation on DR development in Spontaneously Diabetic Torii (SDT) fatty rats as a new prevention approach. Methods: Photocoagulation was applied to the right eyes of 8-week-old Spontaneously Diabetic Torii (SDT) fatty rats, with the left eyes serving as untreated controls. Electroretinography at 9 and 39 weeks of age and pathological examinations, including immunohistochemistry for vascular endothelial growth factor and glial fibrillary acidic protein at 24 and 40 weeks of age, were performed on both eyes. Results: There were no significant differences in amplitude and prolongation of the OP waves between the right and left eyes in SDT fatty rats at 39 weeks of age. Similarly, no significant differences in pathology and immunohistochemistry were observed between the right and left eyes in SDT fatty rats at 24 and 40 weeks of age. Conclusion: Prophylactic pattern scanning retinal laser photocoagulation did not affect the development of diabetic retinopathy in SDT fatty rats.

BACKGROUND Postoperative aortobronchial fistula(ABF)is a rare complication that can occur in 0.3%-5.0%of patients over an extended period of time after thoracic aortic *** visualization of the fistula via imaging is *** To investigate the relationship between computed tomography(CT)findings and the clinical signs/symptoms of ABF after thoracic aortic *** Six patients(mean age 71 years,including 4 men and 2 women)with suspected ABF on CT(air around the graft)at our hospital were included in this retrospective study between January 2004 and September *** CT findings included direct confirmation of ABF,peri-graft fluid,ring enhancement,dirty fat sign,atelectasis,pulmonary hemorrhage,and bronchodilation,and the clinical course were retrospectively *** proportion of each type of CT finding was *** ABF detection after surgery was found to have a mean and median of 14 and 13 years,*** signs and symptoms were asymptomatic in 4 patients,bloody sputum was found in 1 patient,and fever was present in 1 *** complications of ABF included graft infection in 2 patients and graft infection with hemoptysis in 2 *** the 6 patients,3 survived,2 died,and 1 was lost to *** locations of the ABFs were as follows:1 in the ascending aorta;1 in the aortic arch;2 in the aortic arch leading to the descending aorta;and 2 in the descending *** were directly confirmed by CT in 4/6(67%)***-graft dirty fat(4/6,67%)and peri-graft ring enhancement(3/6,50%)were associated with graft infection,endoleaks and pseudoaneurysms were associated with hemoptysis(2/6,33%).CONCLUSION Asymptomatic ABF after thoracic aortic surgery can be confirmed on chest *** is useful for the diagnosis of ABF and its complications.

In chloroplasts and mitochondria of most land plants, RNA editing modifies specific nucleotides. The individual nucleotides are identified in the complex RNA molecule population of either organelle by their sequence context. The biochemical reaction is in effect a C-to-U deamination in flowering plants, in addition a U-to-C amination reaction occurs in ferns and hornworts.

Effect of Double Air Injection on Performance Characteristics of Centrifugal Compressor

In the operation of a centrifugal compressor of turbocharger, instability phenomena such as rotating stall and surge are induced at a lower flow rate close to the maximum pressure ratio. In this study, for the suppression of surge phenomenon resulting in the extension of the stable operating range of centrifugal compressor to lower flow rate, the compressed air at the compressor exit was re-circulated and injected into the impeller inlet by using the double injection nozzle system. The experiments were performed to find out the optimum circumferential position of the second nozzle relative to the fixed first one and the optimum inner diameter of the injection nozzles, which are able to most effectively reduce the flow rate of surge inception. Moreover, in order to examine the universality of these optimum values, the experiments were carried out for two types of compressors.

Soft In Way Inc. performed the aerodynamic design of a 4 stages high pressure radial blower with vaneless diffusers and deswirlers for DMW Corporation in 2021. The nominal pressure ratio of the machine is near *** a pressure ratio often characterizes what would typically be called a compressor, especially if the compression work is performed in one stage. For the subject machine of the present study, the compression work is split into 4 *** paper describes the design procedure for this blower, initially focusing in depth on the tradeoffs between work split,rotor diameter, and rotor vane back-sweep angle. The paper then presents a further design and optimization work of different variants of diffuser and deswirler based on aerodynamic performance for this 4 stages radial blower. The number of deswirler blades in the return channel was reduced from 19 to 10 in consideration of manufacturing requirements. To minimize losses in performance due to reduced blade number, several candidates of varied geometry shape deswirler blades were obtained from an automatic design and optimization workflow combining with 3D CFD calculation. All candidates of deswirler were implemented to the entire 4 stages radial blower to analyze machine performance by 3D CFD calculation and the best 10-blade deswirler geometry was determined. 3D CFD analysis shows that 10 blades of deswirler is unable to provide the same pressure rise and efficiency as the original design with 19 blades when all other parts of the design, such as rotor and diffuser are maintained the same. To further improve the blower performance, the similar automatic workflow was applied to study vaned diffuser influence to the blower performance based on the new blower configuration. The number and geometry of best diffuser blades was obtained from the automatic workflow and entire blower performance with vaned diffuser was analyzed and validated by 3D CFD calculation. Surge Control of a Centrifugal Compression System by Using a Bouncing Ball

The purpose of this study is to suppress the fluctuations of surge by a simple passive control method. A bouncing ball system with different weight of the balls was tested. As a result, the bouncing ball system suppressed mild surge without the deterioration of the performance characteristics, and moved the initiation point of surge toward the lower flow rate when the steel ball of 15mm outer diameter was used. The present system was effective to suppress the surge and to widen the stable operating range of a centrifugal compressor when the ball was chosen appropriately.
