Development of a Driving Simulator with Analyzing Driver’s Characteristics Based on a Virtual Reality Head Mounted Display

Driving a vehicle is one of the most common daily yet hazardous tasks. One of the great interests in recent research is to characterize a driver’s behaviors through the use of a driving simulation. Virtual reality technology is now a promising alternative to the conventional driving simulations since it provides a more simple, secure and user-friendly environment for data collection. The driving simulator was used to assist novice drivers in learning how to drive in a very calm environment since the driving is not taking place on an actual road. This paper provides new insights regarding a driver’s behavior, techniques and adaptability within a driving simulation using virtual reality technology. The theoretical framework of this driving simulation has been designed using the Unity3D game engine (5.4.0f3 version) and programmed by the C# programming language. To make the driving simulation environment more realistic, the HTC Vive Virtual reality headset, powered by Steamvr, was used. 10 volunteers ranging from ages 19 - 37 participated in the virtual reality driving experiment. Matlab R2016b was used to analyze the data obtained from experiment. This research results are crucial for training drivers and obtaining insight on a driver’s behavior and characteristics. We have gathered diverse results for 10 drivers with different characteristics to be discussed in this study. Driving simulations are not easy to use for some users due to motion sickness, difficulties in adopting to a virtual environment. Furthermore, results of this study clearly show the performance of drivers is closely associated with individual’s behavior and adaptability to the driving simulator. Based on our findings, it can be said that with a VR-HMD (Virtual Reality-Head Mounted Display) Driving Simulator enables us to evaluate a driver’s “performance error”, “recognition errors” and “decision error”. Two cases of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma with intrapancreatic metastasis

There are no standardized diagnostic criteria for intrapancreatic metastasis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC). Here, we report two cases of patients with PDAC who were pathologically diagnosed as harboring intrapancreatic metastasis. In both cases, the main lesions were located in the pancreatic body, and no other lesion was detected preoperatively. The patients were diagnosed with pancreatic body cancers and distal pancreatectomy was performed. Pathological findings revealed microscopic cancer nests, which had connections to neither the main lesion nor the premalignant lesion in the pancreatic tail parenchyma. In both cases, the histological type of the daughter lesion was quite similar to that of the main lesion. Hence, we diagnosed the daughter lesions as metastatic foci in the pancreas. Although intrapancreatic metastasis of PDAC has been regarded as a poor prognostic factor, few reports of intrapancreatic metastasis are available. This article reports two such cases and provides a review of the literature.

Understanding for phase transitions of confined fluids in nanospace has progressed a great deal in this decade. However, solidification phenomena still remain largely unresolved. Employing molecular simulation techniques, the present authors had found liquid-solid phase boundaries, or freezing points, for Lennard-Jones (LJ) fluids confined in nanopores, which differ significantly from those for bulk phase because of important factors peculiar to nanospace. In this presentation, sublimation or gas-solid transition of LJ-methane confined in carbon nanopore is examined employing a unique Molecular Dynamics method developed by the authors. The obtained sublimation temperature is significantly elevated, because of the compressing effect by strongly attractive walls. A simple model on the sublimation is presented, which successfully predicts the simulation results with no adjustable parameter. With this success a whole Lennard-Jones phase diagram in slit-shaped nanopore can now be predictable.

＜正＞The aims of his paper are to find important factors which should be considered in the formation of preferable rural landscape based on a photo questionnaire and to establish an assessment method of sequential landscape along the road.. We confirmed the importance of view of distant landscape, view with difference of elevation represented by hills, landscape features to constitute spatial structure specific to the region represented by mountain views, patchwork, and features of agricultural land utilization represented by gradients of texture composed by crops in order to maintain the quality of rural landscape. This study tried assessment of "moving landscape" based on the assessment of landscape component factors of the fixed-point landscape. This assessment method makes it possible to assess views as facets by moving on a certain line. This study is just an application of the previous method and it needs more detailed research.

＜正＞Adopt program （henceforth referred to as AP） is a system in which citizens and self-governing bodies make an agreement and manage public facilities. Citizens become foster parents of roads etc., and carry out activities such as cleaning, weeding out, planting roadside trees and caring them. Self-governing bodies take roles of providing cleaning tools, collecting garbage, posting signboards that bear the names of foster parents and subscribing to personal accident insurance. Although private corporations are actively participating in AP in Japan, little has been known about the consciousness of participating employees and effects of AP. So, in this study, in order to examine the effects of AP introduction to corporations, we conducted questionnaire surveys to participating employees and results were analyzed. The analytical method used is covariance structural analysis, which is a kind of multivariate analysis. As a result of the analysis, the followings have come into light: 1. Participants evaluate AP using the two factors: "effects of AP introduction" and "volunteer spirit". 2. Posting signboards reduce garbage, increase participants’ eagerness and contribute largely to PR of the activity. The order in terms of the magnitude of effectiveness due to posting signboards is "PR effects of activity" ＞ "effects of eagerness improvement" ＞ "garbage reduction". 3. In order to increase volunteer spirit, the word "AP" should be made well-known to the participants, and remuneration should not be paid. 4. The results show that participants can feel the effects of AP introduction, and thanks to the rise in their volunteer spirit, they want to continue beautification activities. Given the above results, effects of AP introduction to environment beautification activities of private corporations were confirmed.

District heating systems using cogeneration technology and renewable resources are considered as an effective approach to resources conservation and reduction of greenhouse gas （GHG） emissions. However, wide- spread aging and depopulation problems, as well as the popularization of energy-saving technologies in buildings, are estimated to greatly decrease energy consumption, leading to inefficiency in district heating and barriers to technology proliferation. From a long-term perspective, land use changes, especially the progression of compact city plans, have the potential to offset the decrement in energy consumption that maintains the efficiency of district heating systems. An integrated model is developed in this paper based on building cohort analysis to evaluate the economic feasibility and environmental impact of introdu- cing district heating systems to a long-term compact city plan. As applied to a case in the Soma Region of Fukushima, Japan, potential migration from the suburbs to the central station districts is simulated, where district heating based on gas-fired cogeneration is expected to be introduced. The results indicate that guided migration to produce concentrated centers of population can substan- tially increase the heat demand density, which supports a wider application of district heating systems and better low-carbon performance. These results are further dis- cussed in relation to technology innovation and related policies. It is concluded that policies related to urban land use planning and energy management should be integrated and quantitatively evaluated over the long-term with the aim of supporting urban low-carbon sustainable develop- ment.
