With the advancement of brain science in recent years, the non-invasive brain-computer interfaces（BCIs） based on electroencephalogram（EEG） acquisition have been widely adopted in various brain-inspired applications. The acquisition of multi-channel microvolts EEG signals corrupted by the motion artifacts（MAs） of up to several volts poses enormous challenges to the design of analog front-end（AFE）, especially the analog-to-digital converter（ADC）, which is necessary to achieve low noise, wide dynamic range（DR）,high accuracy as well as low power. In this paper, a wide DR Σ△ modulator with chopper-modulated inputscaling-down（CM-ISD） technique has been proposed to deal with large input offset while extending dynamic range. Fabricated in 180 nm CMOS technology, the prototype occupies a core area of 0.32 mm;. With a 40 Hz input signal and 125 Hz Nyquist bandwidth, the measured signal-to-noise ratio（SNR） and signalto-noise and distortion ratio（SNDR） are 117 and 110 dB, respectively. Thanks to the proposed CM-ISD technique, the modulator is capable of withstanding a full-scale(4.5 V;) input whereas the measured DR has been extended from 99 to 124 dB. The power consumption is 2.75 mW under 5 V supply voltage,corresponding to 170.6 dB Schreier figure-of-merit（FoMS）. The multi-channel EEG acquisition has been demonstrated based on the proposed modulator, showing its potential in advanced non-invasive BCI systems.

The application of wireless power and data telemetry to implantable medical devices(IMDs)has grown dramatically in recent decades. Achieving a high data rate and high-power transmission efficiency(PTE) over the same inductive link remains challenging. This paper presents a power and data telemetry circuit over a single 13.56 MHz inductive link. On the transmitter(TX) side, a binary-phase-shift keying(BPSK) modulation based on a Class-E amplifier that features a high modulation rate and a high quality(Q)-factor is proposed. A digital-assisted phase-locked-loop(PLL) is proposed on the receiver(RX) side as a BPSK demodulator to handle the long settling process. The maximum data rate can be extended to 1/4 of the carrier frequency. The prototype has been fabricated with a 180 nm BCD(Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS)process. The measurement shows that up to 31.25 mW of power can be delivered simultaneously with 3.39-Mbps of data transmission, while a 2×10-7bit-error-rate(BER) can be ensured over a transmission distance of 5 mm. The peak PTE is 70%, whereas the RX energy efficiency is 183 p J/bit. The results demonstrate the potential of the proposed techniques in applications to various biomedical implants with intensive bandwidth and energy efficiency requirements.

Given the importance of lithium-ion cell safety,a comprehensive review on the thermal stability of lithium-ion cells investigated by accelerating rate calorimetry(ARC),is provided in the present work.The operating mechanism of ARC is discussed first,including the usage and the reaction kinetics.Besides that,the thermal stability of the cathode/anode materials at elevated temperatures is revealed by examining the impacts of some significant factors,i.e.,the lithium content,particle size,material density,lithium salt,solvent,additive,binder and initial heating temperature.A comparison of the common cathode materials indicates that the presence of Mn and polyanion could significantly enhance the thermal stability of cathode materials,while the doping of Al also helps to restrain the reactivity.Except for their high capacity,some alloy materials demonstrate more competitive safety than traditional carbon anode materials.Furthermore,the thermal behaviors of full cells under abusive conditions are reviewed here.Due to the sensitivity of ARC to the kinetic parameters,a reaction kinetic modeling can be built on the basis of ARC profiles,to predict the thermal behaviors of cell components and cells.Herein,a shortcircuit modeling is exampled.

Rice(Oryza sativa L.)is a staple cereal for more than two thirds of the world's population.Soil salinity severely limits rice growth,development,and grain yield.It is desirable to elucidate the mechanism of rice's salt-stress response.As the major source of H_(2)O_(2),NADPH oxidase(Rboh)is believed to be involved in salt-stress tolerance.However,the function and mechanism of rice Rboh in salt stress response remain unclear.In this study,we found that the expression of OsRbohA was up-regulated by NaCl treatment in the shoots and roots of rice seedlings.Knockout of OsRbohA reduced the tolerance of rice to salt stress.Knockout of OsRbohA blocked NaCl-induced increases of NADPH activity and H_(2)O_(2) content in roots.OsRboh A knockout inhibited root growth and disrupted K^(+)homeostasis by reducing the expression of K^(+) transporters and channel-associated genes(OsGORK,OsAKT1,OsHAK1,and OsHAK5)in roots under NaCl treatment.Under NaCl treatment,OsRbohA knockout also reduced subcellular K^(+) contents of the plasma membrane and soluble fraction.Overexpression of OsRbohA increased the expression of K^(+) transporters and channel-associated genes and reduced the loss of K^(+) ions in roots.These results indicate that OsRboh A-mediated H_(2)O_(2) accumulation modulates K^(+) homeostasis,thereby increasing salt tolerance in rice.

Mass spectrometry imaging(MSI)has made the spatio-chemical characterization of a broad range of small-molecule metabolites within biological tissues possible.However,available matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry(MALDI-MS)suffers from severe background interferences in low-mass ranges and inhomogeneous matrix deposition.Thus,surface-assisted LDI-MS(SALDI-MS)has been an attractive alternative for high-sensitivity detection and imaging of small biomolecules.In this study,we construct a new composite substrate,hydrophobic polydopamine(hPDA)-modified TiO_(2)nanotube(TDNT)coated with plasmonic gold nanoparticle(AuNP-hPDA-TDNT),as a dual-polarity SALDI substrate using an easy and cost-effective fabrication approach.Benefitting from the synergistic effects of TDNT semiconductor and plasmonic PDA modification,this SALDI substrate exhibits superior performance for dual-polarity detection of a vast diversity of small molecules.Highly reduced background interferences,lower detection limits,and spot-to-spot repeatability can be achieved using AuNP-hPDA-TDNT substrates.Due to its unique imprinting performance,various metabolites and lipids can be visualized within jatropha integerrima petals,ginkgo leaves,strawberry fruits,and latent fingerprints.More valuably,the universality of this matrix-free substrate is demonstrated for mapping spatial distribution of lipids within mouse brain tissue sections.Considered together,this AuNP-hPDA-TDNT material is expected to be a promising SALDI substrate in various fields,especially in nanomaterial development and life sciences.

当代哲学家关于自然类的许多争论似乎都可以从洛克的思想中找到根源。洛克主张类语词指称的是人类心灵从个体事物中抽象出来的一般观念,而不是事物共同具有的客观内在结构。这种观点通常被解读为关于自然类的反本质主义和约定论,即自然类不是根据本质属性来定义的,并且不存在独立于心灵的自然类。一些学者从多元实在论和自我平衡属性簇的意义上来解释自然类,并认为洛克的自然类反本质主义立场可以与自然类实在论相容,但是这两种进路仍然存在困难。自然类不应当被视作独立于心灵,而洛克的观点可以被理解为承认自然类的心灵依赖性,并且依赖于心灵的自然类仍然拥有某种程度的实在性。

Exceptional thermal stability and enhanced hardness in a nanostructured Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloy processed by high pressure torsion

A Mg-8.2Gd-3.8Y-1.0Zn-0.4Zr(wt.%) alloy is processed by solution treatment and high pressure torsion(HPT) at room temperature to produce a nanostructured light material with high hardness. The stability of this alloy is subsequently tested through isochronal annealing for 0.5 h at 373 K to 673 K. The results reveal a thermal stability that is vastly superior to that of conventional Mg-based alloys processed by severe plastic deformation: the grain size remains at around 50 nm on heating to 573 K, and as the temperature is increased to 673 K,grain growth is restricted to within 500 nm. The stability of grain refinement of the present alloy/processing combination allowing grain size to be limited to 55 nm after exposure at 573 K, appears to be nearly one order of magnitude better than for the other SPD processed Mg-RE type alloys, and 2 orders of magnitude better than those of SPD processed RE-free Mg alloys. This superior thermal stability is attributed to formation of co-clusters near and segregation at grain boundaries, which cause a thermodynamic stabilization of grain size, as well as formation of β-Mg_(5)RE equilibrium phase at grain boundaries, which impede grain growth by the Zener pinning effect. The hardness of the nanostructured Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloy increases with increasing annealing temperature up to 573 K, which is quite different from the other SPD-processed Mg-based alloys. The high hardness of 136 HV after annealing at 573 K is mainly due to solute segregation and solute clustering at or near grain boundaries.

自然类本质主义与HPC理论都假定某种'基础'在自然类的认知实践中发挥关键作用,这种基础即'本质'和'因果自我平衡机制',但无论是'本质'还是'机制'都存在各自的问题。最近兴起的稳定属性簇理论(SPC)主张在定义自然类以及解释自然类的认知价值过程中放弃'本质'或'机制'等基础的作用,仅仅关注属性簇的稳定性,进而试图提供自然类的一种更具统一性的因果解释。然而,自然类的SPC理论并不能真正避免某种'基础',还会面临其他困难。通过对传统本质的倾向性解读,自然类本质主义至少在某种意义上可以与进化论相容,由此可以规避形形色色的自然类非本质主义替代理论。

OsDMI3-mediated OsUXS3 phosphorylation improves oxidative stress tolerance by modulating OsCATB protein abundance in rice

Calcium(Ca^(2+))/calmodulin(CaM)-dependent protein kinase(CCaMK)is an important positive regulator of antioxidant defenses and tolerance against oxidative stress.However,the underlying molecular mechanisms are largely unknown.Here,we report that the rice(Oryza sativa)CCa MK(OsDMI3)physically interacts with and phosphorylates OsUXS3,a cytosol-localized UDP-xylose synthase.Genetic and biochemical evidence demonstrated that OsUXS3 acts downstream of OsDMI3 to enhance the oxidative stress tolerance conferred by higher catalase(CAT)activity.Indeed,OsUXS3 interacted with CAT isozyme B(OsCATB),and this interaction was required to increase OsCATB protein abundance under oxidative stress conditions.Furthermore,we showed that OsDMI3 phosphorylates OsUXS3 on residue Ser-245,thereby further promoting the interaction between OsUXS3 and OsCATB.Our results indicate that OsDMI3 promotes the association of OsUXS3 with OsCATB to enhance CAT activity under oxidative stress.These findings reveal OsUXS3 as a direct target of OsDMI3 and demonstrate its involvement in antioxidant defense.
