Enhancing unsupervised domain adaptation by exploiting the conceptual consistency of multiple self-supervised tasks

Unsupervised domain adaptation(UDA) aims to transfer the knowledge from a label-rich source domain to an unlabeled target domain. Current approaches mainly focus on aligning the target domain’s data distribution with the source domain, but lacking attention to allowing target data to guide which features need to be captured. Source data dominates feature extraction. As a result, target embedding would lose some vital discriminative features and limit UDA in complex tasks. In this paper, we argue that utilizing auxiliary tasks to capture target-intrinsic patterns, which do not depend on source supervision, could further enhance UDA. Multiple auxiliary tasks understand the instance concept from different perspectives.Our findings show that exploiting the conceptual consistency of multiple auxiliary tasks to characterize the common part of these various understandings should reveal the target’s hidden ground truth. Furthermore, we propose a novel method named multiple self-supervision conceptual consistency domain adaptation(MSCC). Experiments and analysis on benchmark datasets show the effectiveness of our idea and method.

Mucosal vaccines that stimulate both mucosal and systemic immune responses are desirable,as they could prevent the invading pathogens at their initial infection sites in a convenient and userfriendly way. Nanovaccines are receiving increasing attention for mucosal vaccination due to their merits in overcoming mucosal immune barriers and in enhancing immunogenicity of the encapsulated antigens.Herein, we summarized several nanovaccine strategies that have been reported for enhancing mucosal immune responses, including designing nanovaccines that have superior mucoadhesion and mucus penetration capacity, designing nanovaccines with better targeting efficiency to M cells or antigen-presenting cells, and co-delivering adjuvants by using nanovaccines. The reported applications of mucosal nanovaccines were also briefly discussed, including prevention of infectious diseases, and treatment of tumors and autoimmune diseases. Future research progresses in mucosal nanovaccines may promote the clinical translation and application of mucosal vaccines.

AIM To compare uncut Roux-en-Y(U-RY) gastrojejunostomy with Roux-en-Y(RY) gastrojejunostomy after distal gastrectomy(DG) for gastric cancer.METHODS A literature search was conducted in Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Science Direct, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, and China Science and Technology Journal Database to identify studies comparing U-RY with RY after DG for gastric cancer until the end of December 2017. Pooled odds ratio or weighted mean difference with 95% confidence interval was calculated using either fixed-or random-effects models. Perioperative outcomes such as operative time, intraoperative blood loss, and hospital stay; postoperative complications such as anastomotic bleeding, stricture and ulcer, reflux gastritis/esophagitis, delayed gastric emptying, and Roux stasis syndrome; and postoperative nutritional status(serum hemoglobin, total protein, and albumin levels) were the main outcomes assessed. Metaanalyses were performed using RevM an 5.3 software.RESULTS Two randomized controlled trials and four nonrandomized observational clinical studies involving 403 and 488 patients, respectively, were included. The results of the meta-analysis showed that operative time [weighted mean difference(WMD):-12.95; 95%CI:-22.29 to-3.61; P = 0.007] and incidence of reflux gastritis/esophagitis(OR: 0.40; 95%CI: 0.20-0.80; P = 0.009), delayed gastric emptying(OR: 0.29; 95%CI: 0.14-0.61; P = 0.001), and Roux stasis syndrome(OR: 0.14; 95%CI: 0.04-0.50; P = 0.002) were reduced; and the level of serum albumin(WMD: 0.71; 95%CI: 0.24-1.19; P = 0.003) was increased in patients undergoing U-RY reconstruction compared with those undergoing RY reconstruction. No differences were found with respect to intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, anastomotic bleeding, anastomotic stricture, anastomotic ulcer, the levels of serum hemoglobin, and serum total protein. CONCLUSION U-RY reconstruction has some clinical advantages over RY reconstruction after DG.

Integrated Planning of an Active Distribution Network and DG Integration in Clusters Considering a Novel Formulation for Reliability Assessment

The concept of DG clusters is introduced with highly penetrated integration of distributed generation(DG)into active distribution networks(ADNs).DG clusters are referred to as parts of an ADN,including DGs,distribution lines and loads.The formation of DG clusters helps to optimally dispatch DG outputs within ADNs.In this regard,an integrated planning strategy of ADNs and DGs in cluster(IPNDGC)is proposed.In order to guarantee that the planning strategy meets the reliability requirements,a reliability assessment is considered in the proposed model.However,reliability assessment is generally accomplished according to a fixed network topology and known DG allocation,which makes it difficult to integrate reliability into planning models.To deal with this difficulty,a novel formulation method for reliability assessment is proposed considering the network topology uncertainties and isolated operating probabilities of DG clusters.The reliability index(RI)represented by expected customer interruption cost(ECOST)is employed in the proposed planning model.The planning model is formulated as a mixed integer second order conic programming planning model.An actual distribution system is employed to illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed planning model.

The interaction between axially adjacent defects is more significant than that between circumferentially aligned defects.However,the existing failure pressure assessment methods cannot accurately predict the failure pressure of axial adjacent defects.In the paper,the finite element model is adopted to analyze the influence of defect size,distribution mode and spacing between adjacent defects on failure pressure.A new failure pressure evaluation method is proposed by establishing the effective depth calculation model of corrosion colony with different distribution model.The burst test of X52 pipeline is carried out to verify the applicability of the method.It shows that the results of new method are consistent with the test results of pipeline with various defects and steel grades.

Professional drivers are more frequently exposed to longer driving distance and travel time,leading to a higher possibility of safety risk for distraction and fatigue.The widespread and common use of commercial driver monitoring systems(DMS)provides a potential for data collection.It increases the amount of data characterizing driver behavior that can be used for further safety research.This study utilized DMS warning-based data and applied an association rule mining approach to explore risk factors contributing to hazardous materials(HAZMAT)truck driver inattention.A total of 499 HAZMAT truck driver inattentive warning events were used to find rules that will predict the occurrence of driver’s fatigue and distraction.First,Fisher’s exact tests were performed to examine the association between the frequency of driver inattentive behavior warnings and risk factors.Second,support,confidence,and lift values were used as measurements to quantify the relative strength of the association rules generated by the Apriori algorithm.Results show that speed between 40and 49 km/h,relatively longer travel time(3-6 h),freeway,tangent section,off-peak hour and clear weather condition are found to be highly associated with fatigue driving,while nighttime during 18:00 to 23:59,speed between 70 and 80 km/h,travel time between 1 and 3 h,freeways,acceleration less than 0.5 m/s^(2),visibility greater than 1000 m,and tangent roadway section are found to be highly associated with distracted driving.By focusing on the specific feature groups,these association rules would help in the development of mitigating distraction and fatigue driving countermeasures and enforcement approaches.

Economic dispatch problem(EDP)is a fundamental optimization problem in power system operation,which aims at minimizing the total generation cost.In fact,the power grid is becoming a cyber-physical power system(CPPS).Therefore,the quality of communication is a key point.In this paper,considering two important factors,i.e.,time delays and channel noises,a fully distributed consensus based algorithm is proposed for solving EDP.The critical maximum allowable upper bounds of heterogeneous communication delays and self-delays are obtained.It should be pointed out that the proposed algorithm can be robust against the time-varying delays and channel noises considering generator constraints.In addition,even with time-varying delays and channel noises,the power balance of supply and demand is not broken during the optimization.Several simulation studies are presented to validate the correctness and superiority of the developed results.

Objective:To investigate the effects of Aurantii Fructus Immaturus(Zhishi,ZS)and Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma(Baizhu,BZ)-containing serum on glutamate-induced autophagy in rat colonic interstitial cells of Cajal(ICCs)and to analyze the underlying mechanism.Methods:Rat colonic ICCs cultured in vitro were identified by fluorescence and then stimulated with glutamic acid(5 mmol/L)for 24 h to establish a cell model of autophagy.The cells were then treated with different concentrations of ZSBZ-containing serum or rat serum.The viability of the ICCs was detected with cell counting kit-8 assays,and cell apoptosis rates were examined with flow cytometry.The ultrastructure and autophagosomes in the ICCs were observed using transmission electron microscopy.The effects of ZSBZ-containing serum on apoptosis-associated mediators were assessed by Western blotting and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction.In addition,microtubule-associated protein light chain 3(LC3),p-phosphoinositide 3-kinase(p-PI3 K),p-Akt and p-mammalian target of rapamycin(pm TOR)expression was detected via Western blotting analysis.Results:Compared to those in the model group,ICC viability and apoptosis rates were significantly increased by ZSBZ-containing serum(P<0.05).In addition,the expression levels of Beclin-1,LC3,pPI3 K,p-Akt and p-mTOR were significantly lower(P<0.05)and Bcl-2 expression was higher in the ZSBZ-containing serum treatment groups than in the model group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Our findings demonstrated that ZSBZ protects glutamic acid-stimulated ICCs,and this beneficial effect may be mediated by a reduction in autophagy via inhibition of the PI3 K/Akt/mTOR pathway.
