OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of moxa-burning heat stimulating acupoints Zusanli(ST36) and Shenshu(BL23) on macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF) and its related molecules which can provide scientific experimental basis for the clinical application of moxibustion treatment of rheumatoid arthritis(RA). METHODS: Thirty rabbits were randomly assigned to control group, RA model(established by injecting Freund’s Complete Adjuvant) group(RA group) and RA model with moxibustion group [Moxa group, Zusanli(ST36) and Shenshu(BL23), 5 moxa pillars/day, 6 d × 3]. The expressions of MIF m RNA were evaluated with reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction;the apoptosis rates of macrophages were detected by erminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated d TUP nick end labeling;the expressions of related signal molecules were detected with immunohistochemical S-P method and the levels of IL-2 were detected with enzymelinked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: The expressions of MIF m RNA, extracellular regulated protein kinases 2, p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase and nuclear factor-κ-gene binding p65 in synovial tissue of RA group were significantly increased when compared with control group, which were lower remarkably in moxa group than those in RA group. The apoptosis rates of macrophages in RA group were significantly down-regulated as compared with the control group, which were up-regulated in moxa group compared with the RA group. The levels of IL-2 in synovial fluid from the RA group were elevated significantly as compared with that from control group, but those of the moxa group were reduced when compared with those from RA group. CONCLUSIONS: Moxibustion may simultaneously regulate the expressions of MIF and its related signaling pathways molecules, the apoptosis rate of macrophages in synovial tissue, as well as the level of inflammatory factors in synovial fluid. Sepsis is a potentially fatal condition characterized by the failure of one or more organs due to a disordered host response to infection.The development of sepsis is closely linked to immune dysfunction.As a result,immunotherapy has gained traction as a promising approach to sepsis treatment,as it holds the potential to reverse immunosuppression and restore immune balance,thereby improving the prognosis of septic patients.However,due to the highly heterogeneous nature of sepsis,it is crucial to carefully select the appropriate patient population for immunotherapy.This review summarizes the current and evolved treatments for sepsis-induced immunosuppression to enhance clinicians'understanding and practical application of immunotherapy in the management of sepsis.

Anomalous diffusion is a widespread physical phenomenon,and numerical methods of fractional diffusion models are of important scientific significance and engineering application value.For time fractional diffusion-wave equation with damping,a difference(ASC-N,alternating segment Crank-Nicolson)scheme with intrinsic parallelism is proposed.Based on alternating technology,the ASC-N scheme is constructed with four kinds of Saul’yev asymmetric schemes and Crank-Nicolson(C-N)scheme.The unconditional stability and convergence are rigorously analyzed.The theoretical analysis and numerical experiments show that the ASC-N scheme is effective for solving time fractional diffusion-wave equation.

This work aimed to discuss effects of pulsed vacuum drying(PVD)at different temperatures(45°C,50°C,55°C and 60°C),vacuum durations(5 min,10 min and 15 min)and multi-stage heating on drying kinetics,colour attributes,phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity of chrysanthemum(Imperial chrysanthemum).Results indicated that successive temperature increase reduced the drying time and enhanced the drying rate and moisture diffusivity.Lower temperature(45°C)and the multi-stage(35°C-55°C-60°C)drying presented the superiority in the protection of color,preservation of phytochemical composition(chlorogenic acid,luteolin,total phenolic and total flavonoid content)and improvement of antioxidant capacity(DPPH and FRAP)of chrysanthemum,which was attributed to the low-oxygen drying environment and reduction of thermal degradation losses.Based on the results of drying efficiency and drying quality,the multi-stage heating(35°C-55°C-60°C)has the excellent potential to produce high-quality dried chrysanthemum on a commercial scale.

Potassium-ion batteries(KIBs)are regarded as one of the most promising replacements for lithium-ion batteries because of their low cost and high performance.Exploring suitable anode materials to stably and effectively store potassium is critical for the development of KIBs.Given their high theoretical specific capacity,cobalt-based compounds have been extensively investigated as an anode material in recent years;however,specific reviews summarizing the research progress in the application of cobaltbased compounds as anode materials for high-performance KIBs are lacking.Consequently,this review systematically summarizes the recent states of cobalt-based anode materials in KIBs starting at the potassium storage mechanism,followed by strategies and applications to improve the electrochemical performance.The current challenges are also discussed,and corresponding prospects are proposed.This work may facilitate the realization of various applications of cobalt-based compound anodes for highperformance rechargeable batteries and is expected to provide some guidance for developing other metal-based compounds for KIBs anodes.

Bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome （BOS） after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation （HSCT） is a major cause of morbidity and mortality with limited treatment options. Lung transplantation （LTX） has been rarely reported as a treatment option for selected HSCT recipients with this problem. In the present study, we reported six patients who underwent LTX due to BOS after HSCT （two females, four males） from January 2012 to December 2014 in our center. The median time from HSCT to diagnosis of BOS was 2.5 years （ranging from 1 to 5 years）. At a median time of 4 years （ranging from 2 to 5 years） after diagnosis of BOS, four patients received bilateral sequential LTX, and two patients received single LTX. One of the recipients suffered from mild acute rejection after LTX, another suffered from primary lung graft dysfunction on post-operation day 2, and three experienced fungal infections. The median time for follow-up after LTX was 19.5 months （ranging from 12 to 39 months）. At present, all patients are alive with good functional capacity and no relapse of BOS and hematologic malignancy conditions. Patients who received bilateral LTX have better pulmonary functions than patients who received single LTX.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy combined with Schwann cell transplantation promotes spinal cord injury recovery

Schwann cell transplantation and hyperbaric oxygen therapy each promote recovery from spinal cord injury, but it remains unclear whether their combination improves therapeutic results more than monotherapy. To investigate this, we used Schwann cell transplantation via the tail vein, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or their combination, in rat models of spinal cord contusion injury. The combined treatment was more effective in improving hindlimb motor function than either treatment alone; injured spinal tissue showed a greater number of neurite-like structures in the injured spinal tissue, somatosensory and motor evoked potential latencies were notably shorter, and their amplitudes greater, after combination therapy than after monotherapy. These findings indicate that Schwann cell transplantation combined with hyperbaric oxygen therapy is more effective than either treatment alone in promoting the recovery of spinal cord in rats after injury.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome(SFTS),caused by SFTS virus(SFTSV)infection,was first reported in 2010 in China with an initial fatality of up to 30%.The laboratory confirmation of SFTSV infection in terms of detection of viral RNA or antibody levels is critical for SFTS diagnosis and therapy.In this study,a new luciferase immunoprecipitation system(LIPS)assay based on p REN2 plasmid expressing SFTSV NP gene and tagged with Renilla luciferase(Rluc),was established and used to investigate the levels of antibody responses to SFTSV.Totally 464 serum samples from febrile patients were collected in the hospital of Shaoxing City in Zhejiang Province in 2019.The results showed that 82 of the 464 patients(17.7%)had antibody response to SFTSV,which were further supported by immunofluorescence assays(IFAs).Further,q RT-PCR and microneutralization tests showed that among the 82 positive cases,15 patients had viremia,10 patients had neutralizing antibody,and one had both(totally 26 patient).However,none of these patients were diagnosed as SFTS in the hospital probably because of their mild symptoms or subclinical manifestations.All the results indicated that at least the 26 patients having viremia or neutralizing antibody were the missed diagnosis of SFTS cases.The findings suggested the occurrence of SFTS and the SFTS incidence were higher than the reported level in Shaoxing in 2019,and that LIPS may provide an alternative strategy to confirm SFTSV infection in the laboratory.

Raised bed planting promotes grain number per spike in wheat grown after rice by improving spike differentiation and enhancing photosynthetic capacity

The yield of wheat in wheat–rice rotation cropping systems in the Yangtze River Plain, China, is adversely impacted by waterlogging. A raised bed planting(RBP) pattern may reduce waterlogging and increase the wheat yield after rice cultivation by improving the grain number per spike. However, the physiological basis for grain formation under RBP conditions remains poorly understood. The present study was performed over two growing seasons(2018/2019and 2019/2020) to examine the effects of the planting pattern(i.e., RBP and flat planting(FP)) on the floret and grain formation features and leaf photosynthetic source characteristics of wheat. The results indicated that implementation of the RBP pattern improved the soil–plant nitrogen(N) supply during floret development, which facilitated balanced floret development, resulting in a 9.5% increase in the number of fertile florets per spike. Moreover, the RBP pattern delayed wheat leaf senescence and increased the photosynthetic source capacity by 13.9%, which produced more assimilates for grain filling. Delayed leaf senescence was attributed to the resultant high leaf N content and enhanced antioxidant metabolism. Correspondingly, under RBP conditions, 7.6–8.6% more grains per spike were recorded, and the grain yield was ultimately enhanced by 10.4–12.7%. These results demonstrate that the improvement of the spike differentiation process and the enhancement of the leaf photosynthetic capacity were the main reasons for the increased grain number per spike of wheat under the RBP pattern, and additional improvements in this technique should be achievable through further investigation.
