AIM: To determine whether nasally applied nimodipine (NM) could improve its systemic bioavailability and be transported directly from the nasal cavity to the brain. METHODS: NM was administered nasally, intravenously (iv), and orally to male Sprague-Dawley rats. At different times post dose, blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and brain tissue samples were collected, and the concentrations of NM in the samples were analyzed byHPLC. RESULTS: Oral systemic bioavailability of NM in rats was 1.17 %, nasal dosing improved bioavailibility to 67.4 %. Following intranasal administration, NM concentrations in olfactory bulb (OB) within 30 min post dose were found significant higher than in the other brain tissues. However, similar NM levels in different brain regions were observed after iv injection. AUC in CSF and OB from the nasal route was 1.26 and 1.39 fold compared with the iv route, respectively. The brain-to-plasma AUC ratios were significantly higher after nasal administration than after iv administration (P1). CONCLUSION: Nasally administered NM could markedly improve the bioavailability and a fraction of the NM dose could be transported into brain via the olfactory pathway in rats.

Brown carbon(BrC)is one of the important light absorption substances that have high light absorption ability under short wavelength ***,limit studies have focused on the BrC emission from *** this study,size-segregated particulate matters(PM)were collected from three different types of ships,light absorption characteristics and size distribution of methanol-soluble BrC and water-soluble BrC in PM from ship exhausts were *** showed that four-stroke low-power diesel fishing boat(4-LDF)had the highest mass concentrations of methanol-soluble organic carbon(MSOC)and water-soluble organic carbon(WSOC),followed by 2-stroke high-power heavy-fuel-oil vessel(2-HHV),and fourstroke high-power marine-diesel vessel(4-HMV).While 2-HHV had obviously higher light absorption coefficients of methanol-soluble BrC(Abs365,M)and water-soluble BrC(Abs365,W)in unit weight of PM than the other two types of *** tested ships presented comparable or higher absorption efficiency of BrC in water extracts(MAE365,W)compared with other BrC emission *** of BrC was concentrated in fine particles,and the particle size distributions of both Abs365,Mand Abs365,Wshowed bimodal patterns,peaking at0.43–0.65μm and 4.7–5.8μm,***,different particle size distributions were found for MAE365,Mbetween diesel and heavy fuel oil ***,different wavelength dependence in particles with different size were also *** exhaust could be confirmed as a non-ignorable BrC emission source,and complex influencing factor could affect the light absorption characteristics of ship *** size should also be considered when light absorption ability of BrC was evaluated.

Background Respiratory syncytial virus(RSV)is the leading global cause of respiratory infections and is responsible for about 3 million hospitalizations and more than 100,000 deaths annually in children younger than 5 years,representing a major global healthcare *** is a great unmet need for new agents and universal strategies to prevent RSV infections in early life.A multidisciplinary consensus development group comprising experts in epidemiology,infectious diseases,respiratory medicine,and methodology aims to develop the current consensus to address clinical issues of RSV infections in *** sources The evidence searches and reviews were conducted using electronic databases,including PubMed,Embase,Web of Science,and the Cochrane Library,using variations in terms for"respiratory syncytial virus","RSV","lower respiratory tract infection","bronchiolitis","acute","viral pneumonia","neonatal","infant""children",and"pediatric".Results Evidence-based recommendations regarding diagnosis,treatment,and prevention were proposed with a high degree of *** supportive care remains the cornerstone for the management of RSV infections,new monoclonal antibodies,vaccines,drug therapies,and viral surveillance techniques are being rolled *** This consensus,based on international and national scientific evidence,reinforces the current recommendations and integrates the recent advances for optimal care and prevention of RSV *** improvements in the management of RSV infections will require generating the highest quality of evidence through rigorously designed studies that possess little bias and sufficient capacity to identify clinically meaningful end points.

Aim:To investigate the effects of deferiprone on doxorubicin-inducedcardiotoxicity and determine its protection on cardiac contractility in vivo at tis-sue ***:Spontaneously-beating isolated atria from rats were pre-treated with deferiprone for 10 min at 1.2 mmol/L or 0.3 mmol/L,respectively beforeco-incubation with doxorubicin(DOX)at 0.03 mmol/L for 60 ***(dF/dt)was assessed every 10 min during the *** that,the tissuesaround the sinuatrial nodes were fixed for ultrastructural study;succinate dehy-drogenase(SDH)and Cu,Zn superoxide dismutase(Cu,Zn-SOD)activity,as wellas malondialdehyde(MDA)level of the atria were ***:Treatmentwith DOX alone resulted in a 49.34% reduction of the contractility,mitochondriaswelling,disruption of mitochondrial crista and decreased electron density of ***,with the presence of deferiprone,the negative inotropiceffect and lesions in the cardiac mitochondria structure induced by DOX ***,Zn-SOD activity increased by 12.97%-12.11%,the MDA leveldecreased by 29.12%-39.82% and succinate dehydrogenase(SDH)activity wasameliorated by 25.15%-34.76%.Conclusion:Deferiprone can efficiently pre-serve cardiac ***,the results of this study indicate thatdeferiprone is able to protect mitochondrial function and structure form damageinduced by *** cardiac protective potential of deferiprone could be due toits defense capability against oxidative damage.
