The chalcogenides of platinum-group metals(PGMs)have been known to be present in minerals and the intermediate products of refining.Over recent years,their applications in various fields,including catalysis,have been explored.given that certain PGM chalcogenides behave as compound semiconductors,they can be used as materials for photodetectors.In this study,RuS_(2),featuring a bandgap suitable for near-infrared photodetectors,was prepared by forming Ru on a SiO_(2)/Si substrate via the atomic layer deposition method using[Ru(TMM)(CO)_(3)]as the precursor.Annealing was conducted at 800℃ for 1 h under H_(2)S flow.High-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM)and X-ray diffraction(XRD)analysis clearly confirmed that the as-deposited hexagonal close-packed(hcp)Ru transformed to cubic RuS_(2) after post-annealing.The surface morphologies,chemical states,and electrical and optical properties of RuS_(2) were investigated.The influence of the metallic Ru surface morphology prior to sulfurization on the reaction between Ru and H_(2)S was also discussed.To evaluate the potential of using RuS_(2) as a photodetector,a photodetector was fabricated by forming electrodes on RuS_(2) to measure its photocurrent under near-infrared light.Thus,RuS_(2) was proven to exhibit a short response time(59μs)and generate a photocurrent of 84 nA under near-infrared light at 940 nm.

We report the case of a rare complex cardiac anomaly involving situs solitus,concordant atrioventricular connection with left-hand ventricular topology,and L-looped ventricles.The ventricles had a superior-inferior relationship with an inferiorly located right ventricle,which had a double outlet with far posteriorly located great arteries.The left atrium was elongated,with juxta-positioned atrial appendages on the right side.The 3D-printed model using a computed tomography scan taken on the fourth day of birth demonstrated the anatomy clearly and helped us decide on the surgical management.

BACKGROUND Axillary thoracotomy and muscle flap are muscle-and nerve-sparing methods among the surgical approaches to bronchopleural fistula(BPF).However,in patients who are vulnerable to a nerve compression injury,nerve injury may occur.In this report,we present a unique case in which the brachial plexus(division level),suprascapular,and long thoracic nerve injury occurred after BPF closure surgery in a patient with ankylosing spondylitis and concomitant multiple joint contractures.CASE SUMMARY A 52-year-old man with a history of ankylosing spondylitis with shoulder joint contractures presented with right arm weakness and sensory impairment immediately after axillary thoracotomy and latissimus dorsi muscle flap surgery for BPF closure.During the surgery,the patient was positioned in a lateral decubitus position with the right arm hyper-abducted for approximately 6 h.Magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound revealed subclavius muscle injury or myositis with brachial plexus(BP)compression and related neuropathy.An electrodiagnostic study confirmed the presence of BP injury involving the wholedivision level,long thoracic,and suprascapular nerve injuries.He was treated with medication,physical therapy,and ultrasound-guided injections.Ultrasoundguided steroid injection at the BP,hydrodissection with 5%dextrose water at the BP and suprascapular nerve,and intra-articular steroid and hyaluronidase injection at the glenohumeral joint were performed.On postoperative day 194,the pain and arm weakness were resolved,and a follow-up electrodiagnostic study showed marked improvement.CONCLUSION Clinicians should consider the possibilities of multiple nerve injuries in patients with joint contracture,and treat each specific therapeutic target.

BACKGROUND Several vaccines against the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 have been approved and widely distributed,raising public concerns regarding the side effects of immunization,as the incidence of ease.Although many adverse events following the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)vaccine have been reported,neurological complications are relatively uncommon.Herein,we report a rare case of multiple cranial palsies following COVID-19 vaccination in an adolescent patient.CASE SUMMARY A previously healthy,14-year-old Asian girl with facial palsy presented to the emergency department with inability to close the right eye or wrinkle right side of the forehead,and pain in the right cheek.She had received second dose of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine(Pfizer-BioNTech)18 days before onset of symptoms.She was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy and prescribed a steroid(1 mg/kg/day methylprednisolone)based on symptoms and magnetic resonance imaging findings.However,the next day,all sense of taste was lost with inability to swallow solid food;the gag reflex was absent.Horizontal diplopia was also present.Due to worsening of her condition,she was given high-dose steroids(1g/day methylprednisolone)for 3 days and then discharged with oral steroids.Improvement in the symptoms was noted 4 days post steroid treatment completion.At the most recent follow-up,her general condition was good with no symptoms except diplopia;ocular motility disturbances were noted.Hence,prism glasses were prescribed for diplopia relief.CONCLUSION Small-angle exotropia was observed in the facial,trigeminal,and glossopharyngeal nerve palsies,in our patient.The etiology of this adverse effect following vaccination was thought to be immunological.

Assessing the stacking fault forming probability(P_(sf)) and stacking fault energy(SFE)in medium-or highMn base structural materials can anticipate and elucidate the microstructural evolution before and after deformation.Typically,these two parameters have been determined from theoretical calculations and empirical results.However,the estimation of SFE values in Fe–Mn–C ternary systems is a longstanding debate due to the complicated nature of carbon:that is,whether the carbon doping indeed plays an important role in the formation of stacking faults;and how the amount of carbon atoms exist at grain boundaries or at internal grains with respect to the nominal carbon doping contents.Herein,the use of atom probe tomography and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)unveils the influence of carbondoping contents on the structural properties of dual-phase Fe–17 Mn–x C(x=0–1.56 at%)steels,such as carbon segregation free energy at grain boundaries,carbon concentration in grain interior,interplanar D-spacings,and mean width of intrinsic stacking faults,which are essential for SFE estimation.We next determined the Psfvalues by two different methods,viz.,reciprocal-space electron diffraction measurements and stacking fault width measurements in real-space TEM images.Then,SFEs in the Fe–17 Mn–x C systems were calculated on the basis of the generally-known SFE equations.We found that the high amount of carbon doping gives rise to the increased SFE from 8.6 to 13.5 m J/m^(2)with non-linear variation.This SFE trend varies inversely with the mean width of localized stacking faults,which pass through both other stacking faults and pre-existingε-martensite plates without much difficulty at their intersecting zones.The high amount of carbon doping acts twofold,through increasing the segregation free energy(due to more carbon at grain boundaries)and large lattice expansion(due to increased soluble carbon at internal grains).The experimental data obtained here strengthens the composition-dependent SFE maps for predicting the deformatio

In this review intended for medical staff involved in patient rehabilitation,we provided an overview of the basic methods for managing amputation stumps.After the amputation surgery,it is imperative to optimize the remaining physical abilities of the amputee through rehabilitation processes,including postoperative rehabilitation,desensitization,and continuous application of soft or rigid dressings for pain reduction and shaping of the stump.Depending on the situation,a prosthesis may be worn in the early stage of recovery or an immediate postoperative prosthesis may be applied to promote stump maturation.Subsequently,to maintain the range of motion of the stump and to prevent deformation,the remaining portion of the limb should be positioned to prevent contracture.Continuous exercises should also be performed to improve muscle strength to ensure that the amputee is able to perform activities of daily living,independently.Additionally,clean wound or edema management of the stump is necessary to prevent problems associated with wearing the prosthesis.Our review is expected to contribute to the establishment of basic protocols that will be useful for stump management from the time of completion of amputation surgery to the fitting of a prosthesis to optimize patient recovery.

BACKGROUND The presence of two distinct hepatitis B virus(HBV)Pol RT polymorphisms,rt269L and rt269I,could contribute to the unique clinical or virological phenotype of HBV genotype C2.Therefore,a simple and sensitive method capable of identifying both types in chronic hepatitis B(CHB)patients infected with genotype C2 should be developed.AIM To develop a novel simple and sensitive locked nucleic acid(LNA)-real timepolymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)method capable of identifying two rt269 types in CHB genotype C2 patients.METHODS We designed proper primer and probe sets for LNA-RT-PCR for the separation of rt269 types.Using synthesized DNAs of the wild type and variant forms,melting temperature analysis,detection sensitivity,and endpoint genotyping for LNA-RT-PCR were performed.The developed LNA-RT-PCR method was applied to a total of 94 CHB patients of genotype C2 for the identification of two rt269 polymorphisms,and these results were compared with those obtained by a direct sequencing protocol.RESULTS The LNA-RT-PCR method could identify two rt269L and rt269I polymorphisms of three genotypes,two rt269L types[‘L1’(WT)and‘L2’]and one rt269I type(‘I’)in single(63 samples,72.4%)or mixed forms(24 samples,27.6%)in 87(92.6%sensitivity)of 94 samples from Korean CHB patients.When the results were compared with those obtained by the direct sequencing protocol,the LNA-RT-PCR method showed the same results in all but one of 87 positive detected samples(98.9%specificity).CONCLUSION The newly developed LNA-RT-PCR method could identify two rt269 polymorphisms,rt269L and rt269I,in CHB patients with genotype C2 infections.This method could be effectively used for the understanding of disease progression in genotype C2 endemic areas.

BACKGROUND Testicular torsion is an emergent disease in urology,and there has been discussion of the treatment of testicular torsion.Testicular decompression has been established as a critical treatment for testicular compartment syndrome(TCS),which occurs after detorsion in a patient who is diagnosed with testis torsion.Until now,testicular fasciotomy and incision of tunica albuginea with tunica vaginalis flap(TVF)graft have been suggested for decompression,and some studies about the efficacy of TVF were reported.However,this method is time consuming and needs meticulous technique,so other methods such as orchio-septopexy are suggested.The objective of this clinical case report was to propose new surgical method using collagen fleece(Tachosil®)instead of tunica vagina flap.CASE SUMMARY A 5-year-old boy with scrotal pain visited our hospital 24 h after symptom onset.After history taking,physical examination,and scrotum ultrasonography,he was diagnosed with testis torsion.Emergency surgery was performed after diagnosis.Following the incision of scrotum and fasciotomy,we covered his tunica albuginea with collagen fleece called Tachosil®instead of covering with TVF.CONCLUSION Short-term follow-up showed normal blood flow in testis without a TCS.This is the first case report of using Tachosil®in testicular torsion surgery,and its advantages were already reported in other surgeries like Peyronie’s disease.Our case suggests this new technique is an appropriate method because of its advantages including its cost-effective and time-saving characteristics.The main limitation is the short follow-up,so more studies are needed to provide a high level of evidence about its efficacy and safety.

BACKGROUND Although propofol generally reduces blood pressure,rarely,it causes hypertension.However,the mechanism by which propofol increases blood pressure has not been established,and so far,there are only a few reported cases.CASE SUMMARY A 46-year-old woman,diagnosed with thyroid cancer,was administered general anesthesia with propofol and remifentanil for a thyroid lobectomy.An increase in the concentrations of intravenous anesthetics further increased her blood pressure.The blood pressure remained stable when anesthesia was maintained with sevoflurane and remifentanil after the interruption of propofol administration.CONCLUSION We concluded that propofol administration was the cause of increased blood pressure.
