Determination of Central Corneal Thickness in Patients with Refractive Anomalies and Emmetropy

Aim: The purpose of this study was to compare measurements of CCT in emmetropia and patient with refractive anomalies. Methods: We represent a retrospective research which was conducted at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK). In this study were included 80 patients, divided into two groups: test and a control group. Mean age was (M = 25.90, DS = 7.16), men (N = 41% or 51.3%) and women (N = 39% or 48%). Results: Results show that there were no differences in the CCT, Hyperopic (M = 545.21 DS = 52.24), Myopic (M = 547.90 DS = 47.93) and Emmetropic (M = 550.75 DS = 41.29). After measuring of the longitudinal axis and analyzing the data by means of Anova test, it appeared to be a significant difference between the analyzed groups, Hyperopic (M = 21.99, DS = 1.27), Myopics (M = 23.21, DS = 1.24), Emmetropic (M = 22.36, DS = 0.81). Results also revealed that there is correlation between the CCT and IOP, where increase CCT decreases IOP and vice versa (r = -0.26, p = 0.01). Conclusion: The results have shown that CCT is thinner in myopic but does not show correlation with hypermetropic and emmetropic. While during the measurement of central corneal thickness and eye tension it is found that there is a negative correlation between them. Keratometry has a negative correlation with CCT. While there was no correlation between CCT and age. Given the role of CCT in interpreting IOP values, it is recommended to perform a systematic CCT measurement in routine clinical practice, which would assist in the diagnosis of ocular hypertension.

Efficacy and Safety of Travoprost and Timolol Fixed Combination Compared to Travoprost in Patients with Primary Open Angle Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension

Purpose: To compare intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering efficacy and safety of travoprost 0.004% and travoprost 0.004% and beta-blocker 0.5% fixed combination ophthalmic solution in patients with open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Methods: In this prospective, multicentre clinical trial, 62 patients received travoprost 0.004% (n = 31) or travoprost 0.004% and beta-blocker 0.5% fixed combination (n = 31). Efficacy and safety were compared across treatment groups over 2 years. IOP reduction and adverse events were examined at 3, 6, 12 and 24 months for each group. Results: Mean IOP at the first visit in the travoprost 0.004% group was 26.4 (SD ± 2.1), and travoprost 0.004%/timolol 0.5% group was 26.3 (SD ± 2.1). Mean IOP after 24 months in the travoprost 0.004% group was 20.5 (SD ± 1.5) and travoprost 0.004%/timolol 0.5% group was 18.5 (SD ± 1.5). There were statistically significant differences in IOP in both eyes after third visit (after 1 year) and fourth visit (after 2 years). Conclusion: After 2 year of treatment, travoprost 0.004%/timolol 0.5% produced clinically relevant IOP reductions in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension that were greater than those produced by travoprost 0.004% alone.

CGGM全球地磁场模型和新疆地区台站主磁场逐月变化的一致性分析

对2018年8月—2022年7月新疆地区的5个地磁台站的观测数据进行剔除外源变化磁场的处理,同CGGM全球地磁场模型的主磁场计算值进行一致性分析。结果表明:①台站观测的月变化速率观测值要略大于模型计算值,磁偏角D、磁倾角I的最大月变化速率差为0.08688′,其它5个要素中最大月变化速率差仅为0.8914 nT。②CGGM模型和IGRF13模型计算值F值的均方根误差相差26.7 nT,随着“张衡一号”地震电磁卫星数据的增多,CGGM模型的计算精度还会进一步提升。③台站观测和模型计算的逐月变化量偏差很小,表明CGGM模型计算值和台站观测值有较好的一致性。④通过提取静日子夜均值的方法并不能够完全剔除外源场的影响,台站观测逐月变化量中会有几个nT的剩余磁场叠加其中,导致了台站观测值和模型计算值逐月变化差值的离散程度略为增大。⑤后验比较分析表明,CGGM模型的长期变化主磁场预测值和台站观测值之间一致性较好,可以很好地描述主磁场的长期变化。

Epidemiology of Pemphigus: A Single Center Experience in Morocco

Objective:Pemphigus is a life threatening autoimmune bullous disease which involves the skin and mucous membranes of the stratified squamous *** global distribution of Pemphigus varies according to genetic,ethnic,socioeconomic,and cultural *** purpose of our study is to evaluate the epidemiological features of pemphigus a single center in Morocco and compare our results with those reported ***:A retrospective analysis was conducted of 302 pemphigus patients seen between 1990 and 2020 in the Dermatology Department of Ibn Sina Hospital(Rabat,Morocco).We further collected all the Moroccan scientific researches published by now to ***:The average annual incidence was 0.32/100,000 *** incidence doubled to 0.72 in *** most common variant was pemphigus vulgaris(125 cases)followed by pemphigus erythematosus(99 cases),pemphigus foliaceous(40 cases),and vegetans(27 cases).The female to male ratio was 0.75,the average age at onset was 53 years old and the mean duration of the disease before diagnosis was ***:This study joins the main characteristics of pemphigus in the Maghreb and around the world(pemphigus vulgaris most frequent subtype).In 2020,an epidemiological peak occurred during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic;probably related to stress and delayed time consultation for fear of contracting the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.

Evaluation of photosynthesis, physiological, and biochemical responses of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L. cv. Pirouz) under water deficit stress and use of vermicompost fertilizer

One goal in the face of drought stress conditions is to increase growth and yield through the reduction of negative effects of stress. Vermicompost can play an effective role in plant growth and development and in reducing harmful effects of various environmental stresses on plants due to its porous structure, high water storage capacity, having hormone-like substances, plant growth regulators, and high levels of macro and micro nutrients. This study considered the physiological, biochemical, and photosynthetic responses of the chickpea to different combinations of vermicompost and water stress in a greenhouse environment. Two factors were involved, addition of vermicompost to soil at four ratios： control （100 wt% （weight percentage） sol0; 10 wt% vermicompost＋90% soil; 20 wt% vermicompost＋80 wt% soil; 30 wt% vermicompost＋70 wt% soil weight percentage, and treatment of water stress at three levels including 75, 50, and 25% of field capacity. The results showed that vermicompost had a significant effect on all traits under stress and non-stress conditions. Application of vermicompost in soil, especially at the levels of 20 and 30 wt% significantly increased all studied traits under non-stress conditions. Under moderate stress conditions, vermicompost at 30 wt% treatment resulted in a significant increase in the photosynthetic pigments, CO2 assimilation rate, internal leaf CO2 concentration, transpiration, the maximal quantum yield of photosystem II （PSII） photochemistry （FJF）, concentrations of Ca and K in root and leaf tissues, proline and soluble protein contents in root tissues. Peroxidase （POX） and catalase （CAT） enzyme activities decreased significantly with increasing proportions of vermicompost, but the activity of superoxide dismutase was not significantly different. In conclusion, the above results showed that vermicompost fertilizer had a positive effect on physiological, biochemical, and photosynthetic responses of chickpea under non-stress and moderate str

Introduction: Primary extra-gastrointestinal stromal tumors (E-GIST) of the liver are rare. The clinical presentation can range from asymptomatic to bleeding or manifestations of mass effect. Cancer surgery followed by adjuvant treatment with imatinib is the standard of care. However, in special circumstances, a cytoreductive approach may represent a therapeutic option. We describe here the case of two patients who presented with a painful and protruding epigastric mass, the first case was a localized E-GIST candidate for neoadjuvant treatment with imatinib with complete resection surgery thereafter with very good evolution, and the second is that of an E-GIST of the liver at an advanced stage with an evolution very quick to death. Conclusion: Primary liver E-GIST is a rare condition. Treatment is based on systemic therapy and total resection surgery. However, cytoreductive surgery will be required when complete resection is not possible.

Pre-Sacral Chordomas, about Two Cases and Review of the Literature

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines chordoma as a malignant tumor of intermediate or low grade, developing at the expense of embryonic remnants of the notochord. These tumors represent 8.4% of all malignant bone tumors. We report 2 cases collected in the medical oncology department at the CHU Hassan II in Fes. In whom the clinical examination revealed a mass and/or signs of loco-regional compression. The tumor was located in the sacrum in both patients. The diagnosis was based on the data of the anatomopathological examination showing the association of a lobulated architecture with classic physaliphore cells and a mucoid intercellular substance. Immunohistochemistry was performed for both patients. The principle of therapeutic management was based on radiotherapy and targeted therapy since surgery was difficult given the local tumor extension.

Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma and Pregnancy: What Impact on Prognosis?

Introduction: The impact of pregnancy on the prognosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) has been debated for several decades;however, no definitive conclusions have been reached. The main objective of this study is to demonstrate the short-term influence of pregnancy on the evolution and prognosis of PTC. Materials and Methods: A prospective descriptive and analytical study was conducted in the Endocrinology and Diabetology Department at the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez, including patients followed for papillary thyroid carcinoma presenting with a pregnancy during the year 2019 and 2020. The follow-up of these patients was continued until 1 year postpartum. We studied the clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic factors that could influence the prognosis of the disease. Results: We included 26 patients. Our study showed a significant correlation between recurrence and the presence of unfavorable histological signs (p = 0.02) as well as the initial Tg level (0.01). However, pregnancy was not an influencing factor (p = 0.41). Conclusion: Pregnancy does not seem to be a factor aggravating the prognosis of differentiated thyroid cancers.
