In this editorial,we discuss the status of a therapeutic approach to emotional reactions accompanying thermal skin injuries.Burns are considered a major health problem,as well as an economic and social problem,with potentially devastating and life-changing consequences.They affect a wide range of patients with different damage mechanisms,varied depths,and localizations of the burns.The most common are thermal burns,with more than 11 million occurrences annually according to the World Health Organization data.Thermal skin injuries are among the most tragic and catastrophic injuries,almost unsurpassed in terms of severity,morbidity,and mortality,as well as functional,aesthetic,social,economic,and psychological consequences.Burn survivors face stress,anxiety,depression,low self-esteem,body deformity,social isolation,unemployment,financial burden,and family problems.The advances in acute burn care have allowed researchers and physicians to pay more attention to other effects of burns,focusing on psychological consequences in particular.Apart from the significant improvements in routine protocols,it seems useful to take care of psychological disturbances that occur simultaneously but may emerge as the most lasting outcome of those injuries.In that sense,various standards and additional approaches may be involved to achieve overall recovery.

In this work,monoclinic Bi_(2)O_(3) was applied for the first time,to the best of our knowledge,as a catalyst in the process of dye degradation by a non-thermal atmospheric-pressure positive pulsating corona discharge.The research focused on the interaction of the plasma-generated species and the catalyst,as well as the role of the catalyst in the degradation process.Plasma decomposition of the anthraquinone reactive dye Reactive Blue 19(RB 19) was performed in a selfmade reactor system.Bi_(2)O_(3) was prepared by electrodeposition followed by thermal treatment,and characterized by x-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive xray techniques.It was observed that the catalyst promoted decomposition of plasma-generated H_(2)O_(2) into ·OH radicals,the principal dye-degrading reagent,which further attacked the dye molecules.The catalyst improved the decolorization rate by 2.5 times,the energy yield by 93.4%and total organic carbon removal by 7.1%.Excitation of the catalyst mostly occurred through strikes by plasma-generated reactive ions and radical species from the air,accelerated by the electric field,as well as by fast electrons with an energy of up to 15 eV generated by the streamers reaching the liquid surface.These strikes transferred the energy to the catalyst and created the electrons and holes,which further reacted with H_(2)O_(2) and water,producing ·OH radicals.This was indentified as the primary role of the catalyst in this process.Decolorization reactions followed pseudo first-order kinetics.Production of H_(2)O_(2) and the dye degradation rate increased with increase in the input voltage.The optimal catalyst dose was 500 mg·dm^(-3).The decolorization rate was a little lower in river water compared with that in deionized water due to the side reactions of ·OH radicals with organic matter and inorganic ions dissolved in the river water.

Understanding the interaction between the heart and liver is pivotal for managing patients in whom both organs are affected.Studies have shown that cardio-hepatic interactions are bidirectional and that their identification,assessment,and treatment remain challenging.Congestive hepatopathy is a condition that develops in the setting of long-standing systemic venous congestion.If left untreated,congestive hepatopathy may lead to hepatic fibrosis.Acute cardiogenic liver injury develops as a combination of venous stasis and sudden arterial hypoperfusion due to cardiac,circulatory,or pulmonary failure.The treatment of both conditions should be directed toward optimizing the cardiac substrate.Hyperdynamic syndrome may develop in patients with advanced liver disease and lead to multiorgan failure.Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy or abnormalities in pulmonary vasculature,such as hepatopulmonary syndrome and portopulmonary hypertension may also develop.Each complication has unique treatment challenges and implications for liver transplantation.The presence of atrial fibrillation and atherosclerosis in liver disease brings another layer of complexity,particularly in terms of anticoagulation and statin use.This article provides an overview of cardiac syndromes in liver disease,focusing on current treatment options and future perspectives.

Alexander disease is a rare neurodegenerative disorder caused by mutations in the glial fibrillary acidic protein,a type III intermediate filament protein expressed in astrocytes.Both early(infantile or juvenile)and adult onsets of the disease are known and,in both cases,astrocytes present characteristic aggregates,named Rosenthal fibers.Mutations are spread along the glial fibrillary acidic protein sequence disrupting the typical filament network in a dominant manner.Although the presence of aggregates suggests a proteostasis problem of the mutant forms,this behavior is also observed when the expression of wild-type glial fibrillary acidic protein is increased.Additionally,several isoforms of glial fibrillary acidic protein have been described to date,while the impact of the mutations on their expression and proportion has not been exhaustively studied.Moreover,the posttranslational modification patterns and/or the protein-protein interaction networks of the glial fibrillary acidic protein mutants may be altered,leading to functional changes that may modify the morphology,positioning,and/or the function of several organelles,in turn,impairing astrocyte normal function and subsequently affecting neurons.In particular,mitochondrial function,redox balance and susceptibility to oxidative stress may contribute to the derangement of glial fibrillary acidic protein mutant-expressing astrocytes.To study the disease and to develop putative therapeutic strategies,several experimental models have been developed,a collection that is in constant growth.The fact that most cases of Alexander disease can be related to glial fibrillary acidic protein mutations,together with the availability of new and more relevant experimental models,holds promise for the design and assay of novel therapeutic strategies.

Information about the relative importance of each criterion or theweights of criteria can have a significant influence on the ultimate rank of alternatives.Accordingly,assessing the weights of criteria is a very important task in solving multi-criteria decision-making problems.Three methods are commonly used for assessing the weights of criteria:objective,subjective,and integrated methods.In this study,an objective approach is proposed to assess the weights of criteria,called SPCmethod(Symmetry Point of Criterion).This point enriches the criterion so that it is balanced and easy to implement in the process of the evaluation of its influence on decision-making.The SPC methodology is systematically presented and supported by detailed calculations related to an artificial example.To validate the developed method,we used our numerical example and calculated the weights of criteria by CRITIC,Entropy,Standard Deviation and MEREC methods.Comparative analysis between these methods and the SPC method reveals that the developedmethod is a very reliable objective way to determine the weights of criteria.Additionally,in this study,we proposed the application of SPCmethod to evaluate the efficiency of themulti-criteria partitioning algorithm.The main idea of the evaluation is based on the following fact:the greater the uniformity of the weights of criteria,the higher the efficiency of the partitioning algorithm.The research demonstrates that the SPC method can be applied to solving different multi-criteria problems.

According to data from 2020,Slovakia has long been among the top five countries with the highest incidence rate of colorectal cancer(CRC)worldwide,and the rate is continuing to rise every year.In approximately 80%of CRC cases,allelic loss(loss of heterozygosity,LOH)occurs in the long arm of chromosome 18q.The most important genes that can be silenced by 18q LOH or mutations are small mothers against decapentaplegic homolog(SMAD)2 and SMAD4,which are intracellular mediators of transforming growth factor(TGF)-βsuperfamily signals.TGF-βplays an important role in the pro-oncogenic processes,including such properties as invasion,epithelial-mesenchymal transition(commonly known as EMT),promotion of angiogenesis,and immunomodulatory effects.Several recent studies have reported that activation of TGF-βsignaling is related to drug resistance in CRC.Because the mechanisms of drug resistance are different between patients in different stages of CRC,personalized treatment is more effective.Therefore,knowledge of the activation and inhibition of factors that affect the TGF-βsignaling pathway is very important.

At present,the prevalence of diabetes is increasing because the human body cannot metabolize the glucose level.Accurate prediction of diabetes patients is an important research area.Many researchers have proposed techniques to predict this disease through data mining and machine learning methods.In prediction,feature selection is a key concept in preprocessing.Thus,the features that are relevant to the disease are used for prediction.This condition improves the prediction accuracy.Selecting the right features in the whole feature set is a complicated process,and many researchers are concentrating on it to produce a predictive model with high accuracy.In this work,a wrapper-based feature selection method called recursive feature elimination is combined with ridge regression(L2)to form a hybrid L2 regulated feature selection algorithm for overcoming the overfitting problem of data set.Overfitting is a major problem in feature selection,where the new data are unfit to the model because the training data are small.Ridge regression is mainly used to overcome the overfitting problem.The features are selected by using the proposed feature selection method,and random forest classifier is used to classify the data on the basis of the selected features.This work uses the Pima Indians Diabetes data set,and the evaluated results are compared with the existing algorithms to prove the accuracy of the proposed algorithm.The accuracy of the proposed algorithm in predicting diabetes is 100%,and its area under the curve is 97%.The proposed algorithm outperforms existing algorithms.

Salivary gland(SG)dysfunction,due to radiotherapy,disease,or aging,is a clinical manifestation that has the potential to cause severe oral and/or systemic diseases and compromise quality of life.Currently,the standard-of-care for this condition remains palliative.A variety of approaches have been employed to restore saliva production,but they have largely failed due to damage to both secretory cells and the extracellular matrix(niche).
