Symbiotic relationships in marine environments are not fixed and can change throughout the animal’s *** study investigated the ontogeny of symbiosis of the spider crab Libinia ferreirae with the host medusa Lychnorhiza *** described the type of relationship,the temporal correlation among species,and food *** than 50%of the sampled crabs were symbionts,most in early life *** highest number of crabs found in a single medusa was *** was observed throughout most of the year but was more evident in warm *** crab has many benefits in this relationship with a *** is the use of food resources captured by the medusa,primarily *** the crab steals the medusa’s food,it is a kleptoparasitic *** is a niche partition between symbiont and the free-living crabs as they occupy different habitats and use nonoverlapping food *** research reported that symbiosis first developed during the crab’s last larval phase(megalopa)when crab and medusa are in the same *** of the crab’s behavior shows that symbiosis occurs when the crab can grab to the medusa when the host touches the sea *** crab also took advantage of water currents,releasing itself from the substrate and then drifting toward the *** symbiotic relationship that crabs have with the medusa provides then with a nursery,food resources,shelter,dispersion,and decreased competition with free-living adult crabs,all essential for the crab’s survival.

Fractionation of Green Coffee Oil by Molecular Distillation： Modeling and Simulation

This work describes a non-equilibrium mathematical model and simulation procedures for the fractionation of green coffee oil via molecular distillation. The simulation results were in quantitative agreement with previously reported experimental. Green coffee oil makes up to 18% (w/w) of coffee beans (Coffea arabica). The main components of the coffee’s lipids are triglycerides accounting up to 80% w/w, diterpene fatty acid esters amounting up to 18% w/w. The large amount of diterpene fatty acids renders Green Coffee Oil unsuitable for use as an edible vegetable oil. The majority of these lipids can be found in liquid form inside the cells of the coffee beans. Fractionation of green coffee oil by molecular distillation offers an avenue to improve the quality of green coffee oil allowing its use in nutritional, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications. Molecular distillation also provides a viable process to purify valuable products such as diterpene esters which has been reported to exhibit anticarcinogenic properties.

Determination of Thermal Properties of Cuts and Residue Streams Obtained in the Molecular Distillation Process

A real-time sensing of the molecular distillation process temperature by a FLUKE brand thermograph Ti50 IR FlexCam and thermography technique was realized. After completion of the molecular distillation, three properties of heat transport chain cuts and residues obtained in the process were estimated by Differential Scanning Calorimetry （DSC）（specific heat, enthalpy, thermal conductivity）. These properties are of great importance for improving oil characterization and for future modeling and simulation of the molecular distillation process. The results show that through the method of Differential Scanning Calorimetry, profiles have been obtained from the variation of specific heat, enthalpy and thermal condutivity as a function of temperature for samples of cuts from the distillation （ASTM D-2892） and fractions of distillate and residue from the process of molecular distillation.

Simulation of Molecular Distillation Process for Lactic Acid

In this work, a procedure to simulate the MD （molecular distillation） process for lactic acid purification was developed. The simulation was carried out with the aid of the Aspen Plus Process Simulator. Flash vessel was used to represent the MD process since the software does not present this unit operation. The simulation results with efficiency factors were in agreement with previously reported experimental data.

Syngas Production from Crude Glycerol Using Pyrolysis

Glycerol pyrolysis is carried out in a fixed bed reactor filled with alumina oxide. The packing material diameter was examined according to each one, but in general it was varied between 0.1-5.0 mm. The reaction temperature was varied in the range of 700-900 ℃, the reaction time from 10 to 50 min and flow rate of carrier gas from 0 to 60 mL/min. The process parameters listed above （factors） were used to evaluate the syngas production yield （response）. Also, syngas properties such as composition and heat value were evaluated. The experiments were carried out according to a 23 factorial design plus three central points. At last, a technical-economical analysis is carried out to examine the feasibility of syngas production from glycerol pyrolysis considering not only feedstock, catalyst and energy required costs but also conventional procedures used nowadays to produce syngas such as water electrolysis and natural gas catalytic reform.

Application of Molecular Distillation Process to Extend the True Boiling Point Curve of Petroleum Residues 400 ℃ ＋

True Boiling Point （TBP） distillation is one of the most common experimental techniques for determination of petroleum properties. The methods for performing TBP distillation experiments are described by ASTM D2892 and by ASTM D5236. However, these methods are established for petroleum fractions that reach temperatures up to 565 ~C. In this work, two petroleum residues were distilled in a falling film molecular distillation prototype and the data were used to obtain the extension of the TBP curve above a temperature of 565 ~C. It was possible to extend the TBP curve of both petroleum up to temperatures close to 700 ~C with consistency and continuity in comparison to the standard curve. In addition, an amount of raw material that was been treated as residue could be reused.

Expression of the Genes OsNRT1.1, OsNRT2.1, OsNRT2.2, and Kinetics of Nitrate Uptake in Genetically Contrasting Rice Varieties

Four genetically contrasting rice varieties (IAC-47, Bico Ganga, Arroz de Revenda and Manteiga) according to Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis were assessed regarding expression of the genes OsNRT1.1, OsNRT2.1 and OsNRT2.2 and the nitrate uptake kinetics parameters (Km and Vmax). Up to 250-fold increases in the induction of gene expression after nitrate resupply were observed for the high-affinity transporter (OsNRT2.1 and OsNRT2.2). However, no significant variations in Vmax among the varieties were obtained. The lower value of Km of the IAC-47 cultivar in relation to the Arroz de Revenda variety suggests a greater role of high-affinity transporter genes. These results indicate that closer attention should be paid to the expression levels of these genes in selecting varieties aiming to enhance nitrogen uptake efficiency.
