AIM:To study the epidemiologic indicators of uptake and characteristic colonoscopic findings in the Croatian National Colorectal Cancer Screening ***:Colorectal cancer(CRC) was the second leading cause of cancer mortality in men(n = 1063,49.77/100 000),as well as women(n = 803,34.89/100 000) in Croatia in *** Croatian National CRC Screening Program was established by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare,and its implementation started in September,*** coordinators were recruited in each county institute of public health with an obligation to provide fecal occult blood testing(FOBT) to the participants,followed by colonoscopy in all positive *** FOBT was performed by hypersensitive guaiac-based Hemognost card test(Biognost,Zagreb).The test and short questionnaire were delivered to the home addresses of all citizens aged 50-74 years consecutively during a 3-year *** participant was required to complete the questionnaire and send it together with the stool specimen on three test cards back to the institute for further *** 4% FOBT positive cases are expected in normal risk populations.A descriptive analysis was ***:A total of 1 056 694 individuals(born between 1933-1945 and 1952-1957) were invited to screening by the end of September *** total,210 239(19.9%) persons returned the envelope with a completed questionnaire,and 181 102 of them returned it with a correctly placed stool specimen on FOBT *** now,12 477(6.9%),FOBT-positive patients have been found,which is at the upper limit of the expected values in European Guidelines for Quality Assurance in CRC Screening and Diagnosis [European Union(EU) Guidelines].Colonoscopy was performed in 8541 cases(uptake 66%).Screening has identified CRC in 472 patients(5.5% of colonoscopied,3.8% of FOBT-positive,and 0.26% of all screened individuals).This is also in the expected range according to EU *** were found and removed in 3329(39% of co

Characterization of value-added chemicals derived from the thermal hydrolysis and wet oxidation of sewage sludge

We evaluated the effect of hydrothermal pretreatments,i.e.,thermal hydrolysis(TH)and wet oxidation(WO)on sewage sludge to promote resource *** hydrothermal processes were performed under mild temperature conditions(140°C–180°C)in a high pressure *** reaction in acidic environment(pH=3.3)suppressed the formation of the color imparting undesirable Maillard’s *** oxidative conditions resulted in higher volatile suspended solids(VSS)reduction(~90%)and chemical oxygen demand(COD)removal(~55%)whereas TH caused VSS and COD removals of~65%and~27%,respectively at a temperature of 180°*** TH,the concentrations of carbohydrates and proteins in treated sludge were 400–1000 mg/L and 1500–2500 mg/L,***,WO resulted in solids solubilization followed by oxidative degradation of organics into smaller molecular weight carboxylic acids such as acetic acid(~400–500 mg/L).Based on sludge transformation products generated during the hydrothermal pretreatments,simplified reaction pathways are ***,the application of macromolecules(such as proteins),VFAs and nutrients present in the treated sludge are also *** future study should focus on the development of economic recovery methods for various value-added compounds.

Expansion of Small Terrestrial Mammals and Their Parasites into the Barun Valley (Makalu Mt. Region, Nepal Himalaya) Linked with Changes in Glaciation and Human Activities

The article is based on collection of small terrestrial mammals(Soriculus nigrescens,Episoriculus caudatus, Neodon sikimensis,Alticola stoliczkanus, Niviventer eha and Ochotona roylei) collected in the Barun Valley, east Nepal in the pre-monsoon period of *** and ecological characteristics and altitudinal stratification of these species are analysed, depending both on abiotic(geomorphological and climatic) and biotic(vegetation, and human presence and activities)factors. All the captured mammals were examined for ecto- and endoparasities. Infestations of Trombiculid mites and Ixodid ticks were tightly linked to the local habitat where these ectoparasites must survive during their nonparasitic phase. Analysis of their occurrence completes the reconstruction of migration routes during the expansion of small mammals into the Barun Valley and the exacerbating influence of human activities(summer pasturing,mountaineering expeditions and trekking parties).An indicator of anthropogenic influence was the occurrence of synantropic flies. The potential medical importance of these findings is *** is assumed a possible occurrence of arboviruses transmitted by ticks and also rickettsioses(transmitted by ticks and chigger mites). As far bacteriological infections, plague cannot be excluded.

Optimal velocity functions for car-following models

The integral part of the optimal velocity car-following models is the optimal velocity function (OVF), which can be derived from measured velocity-spacing data. This paper discusses several characteristics of the OVF and presents regression analysis on two classical datasets, the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, with different possible OVFs. The numerical simulation of the formation of traffic congestion is conducted with three different heuristic OVFs, demonstrating that these functions give results similar to those of the famous Bando OVF (Bando et al., 1995). Also an alternative method is present for determining the sensitivity and model parameters based on a single car driving to a fixed barrier.

The wide use of manganese dioxide(MnO_(2))as an electrode in all-solid-state asymmetric supercapacitors(ASCs)remains challenging because of its low electrical *** complication can be circumvented by introducing trivalent gadolinium(Gd)ions into the MnO_(2).Herein,we describe the successful hydrothermal synthesis of crystalline Gd-doped MnO_(2) nanorods with Ni(OH)_(2) nanosheets as cathode,which we combined with Fe_(3)O_(4)/GO nanospheres as anode for all-solid-state *** tests dem on strate that Gd dopi ng sign ifica ntly affected the electrochemical activities of the MnO_(2),which was further enhanced by introducing Ni(OH)_(2).The GdMnO_(2)/Ni(OH)_(2) electrode offers sufficient surface electrochemical activity and exhibits excellent specific capacity of 121.8 mA h g^(-1),at 1A g^(-1),appealing rate performance,and ultralong lifetime stability(99.3%retention after 10,000 discharge tests).Furthermore,the GdMnO_(2)/Ni(OH)_(2)//PVA/KOH//Fe_(3)O_(4)/GO solid-state ASC device offers an impressive specific energy density(60.25 W h kg^(-1))at a high power density(2332 W kg^(-1)).This investigation thus shows its large potential in developing novel approaches to energy storage devices.

A new species of Atelopus(Amphibia:Bufonidae)from eastern Panama

A new species of the genus Atelopus,Atelopus fronterizo ***.,from eastern Panama is described herein based on molecular,morphological,and bioacoustic *** new species can be distinguished from its congeners occurring in the region by a combination of the following characters:(1)phalangeal reduction in thumb;(2)SVL(females only)(35.1-50.1;n=13),HW/SVL(0.23-0.34;n=59),EYND/HW(0.27-0.39;n=60),TIBL/SVL(0.41-0.56;n=58),and HAL/SVL(0.22-0.28;n=49);(3)dorsal color pattern with green or yellow background and extensive dark olive blotches forming transversal bands or mottling;(4)advertisement call duration 176-235 ms with 19-34 pulses,average pulse rate 131.69 pulses/s,and dominant frequency 2422.50-2606.50 *** new species is nested within the Central American clade of *** minimum Kimura‐2‐parameter(K2P)genetic divergence between Atelopus fronterizo *** its most phylogenetically similar congeners(*** and ***)is>2.6%for 16S and>4.9%for COI(Table 1).The phylogenetic relationship is strongly supported by ultrafast bootstrap values for the maximum-likelihood trees of both genetic markers(16S,96;COI,100,Figure 1A).Bayesian analysis of the concatenated sequences resulted in a tree with similar topology and high posterior probability support(0.99;Supplementary Figure S1).In addition,haplotype networks inferred from COI and 16S(Supplementary Figure S2)showed a well-separated clade containing the new species(two for COI,four for 16S).

New insights in bilirubin metabolism and their clinical implications

Bilirubin,a major end product of heme breakdown,is an important constituent of bile,responsible for its characteristic *** recent decades,our understanding of bilirubin metabolism has expanded along with the processes of elimination of other endogenous and exogenous anionic substrates,mediated by the action of multiple transport systems at the sinusoidal and canalicular membrane of *** inherited disorders characterised by impaired bilirubin conjugation(Crigler-Najjar syndrome typeⅠand typeⅡ,Gilbert syndrome)or transport(Dubin-Johnson and Rotor syndrome)result in various degrees of hyperbilirubinemia of either the predominantly unconjugated or predominantly conjugated ***,disrupted regulation of hepatobiliary transport systems can explain jaundice in many acquired liver *** this review,we discuss the recent data on liver bilirubin handling based on the discovery of the molecular basis of Rotor *** data show that a substantial fraction of bilirubin conjugates is primarily secreted by MRP3 at the sinusoidal membrane into the blood,from where they are subsequently reuptaken by sinusoidal membrane-bound organic anion transporting polypeptides OATP1B1 and ***1B proteins are also responsible for liver clearance of bilirubin conjugated in splanchnic organs,such as the intestine and kidney,and for a number of endogenous compounds,xenobiotics and *** of one or both OATP1B proteins thus may have serious impact on toxicity of commonly used drugs cleared by this system such as statins,sartans,methotrexate or *** liverblood cycling of conjugated bilirubin is impaired in cholestatic and parenchymal liver diseases and this impairment most likely contributes to jaundice accompanying these disorders.

This article will discuss a false dichotomy between two models,the modern art studio and the post-studio,which oppose the private and the public,the individual and the collective,hiding and the *** will begin by analysing Daniel Buren’s position in his canonical text“Fonction de l’Atelier”and his practice,where the artist defines the foundations of post-studio *** the text also describes a New York studio type that must be left behind,we will analyse Jackson Pollock’s and Andy Warhol’s workspaces through drawing reconstructions to demonstrate that these meet the defining characteristics of both *** will be shown that the artists have used design strategies to retain certain aspects of studio culture while exploring others of the *** turning point reveals that the current belief about the obsolescence of the studio in a global era defined by communication,networking and mobility ignores its emerging post-studio *** work aims to acknowledge this shift,obtaining a critical vision that will allow us to design contemporary workspaces avoiding stereotypical and reductionist approaches.
